Tasty authentic Japanese restaurant in the Dollarton area. Parking is plentiful in the tilted strip mall lot. Something to keep in mind - this place closes between 1500-1600 (their so called lunch break). The place is quite small. Maybe 20 seats at most, with a tiny cramped patio with 2 tables. Staff were friendly and helpful. I tried the miso ramen special lunch combo with nigiri side. Pretty tasty stuff. The nigiri was very fresh. The pork slice was quite tasty. Decent portions size. Served with half a soft boiled egg, as well as some green onion and wood ear and corn. Wouldn't mind coming back at some point, if it wasn't so far out of the way. Recommended.

I have heard good things about this place and always wanted to try it. Location is a bit way out unless you live in the neighborhood. So yay for those living in the area as this is the place for good Japanese food. The place was fairly busy when I was there after 2pm (last order around 240 pm but best to be there latest 230pm). Most were regular customers. I tried the Sapporo lunch set which had a bit of everything and was not the ubiquitous bento set with California roll and tempura. The Sapporo lunch set had a choice of teriyaki and came with nigiri, salmon oshi, ebi sunomono, miso soup and edamame. They were all delicious. The only drawback was the teriyaki did not come with rice. It was served with bean sprouts. The salmon oshi was really good and the sunomono had a generous serving of shrimps. The portion was smallish but this would be normal in Japan or any authentic Japanese restaurants. Quality over quantity. Definitely a good place for Japanese food. Would I come all the way just for this? Probably not but I would pop in if I am in the area. This has a more modern vibe with bossa nova type of music playing.

Sapporo Kitchen If you like Japanese food, this hidden gem is found in Deep Cove. It has a nice ambience & it's cosy. They can only fit 12 people maximum so come here early. There are 2 tables x 2 people, 1 table x 4 or 1 -4 can sit at a bar style table by the window. If there's no seats, do a takeout and head to Cates Park nearby. They offer the usual sushi, ramen or lunch specials (from 12 - 3 pm). It's all fresh especially the sushi and tasty. We ordered the fan favourite and ramen combo. All were filling. Located in a shopping plaza, there's plenty of free parking. The service was great. A great place for lunch from 12 - 3 pm (7 days) and from 4-8 pm for dinner (Sunday - Thursday) & Fridays 4-8:30 pm.

While I used to think Green Leaf…read morecouldn't compare to the aburi from Miku, there is a certain appeal of affordable, yet delicious sushi that I can't quite pinpoint, but somehow makes the food taste even better! The only thing I wished is that the North Van location could also serve cooked food options as this location primarily only serves sushi. *Must try* Aburi Platter (5/5) - $75 Taste: Such great variety that you get in this platter - you get flame torched aburi ebi, salmon, tuna, saba, scallop sushi as well as an aburi tobiko roll. The tobiko roll is by far my favourite - I love how the fish roe adds flavour and pops in your mouth! Portion Size: Shareable for a group of 4 *Must try* House Roll (5/5) - $18 Taste: I HAVE to get this roll every time. As someone who doesn't enjoy too much saucy foods, the house roll provides a clean contrast to the richness of the aburi sushi. Packed with fresh ingredients and seafood, this roll is filling and delicious with good umami flavours. Portion Size: 6 large pieces [Value for Money] Amazing value for the quality and freshness of the food served here! Care and effort is put into curating the sushi and that doesn't go unnoticed.

What can I possibly say that can give this place justifiably a higher score than 1?…read more Hmmmm.....let's see... I'm sorry, I can't. Here it goes..... Let's get the worst out of the way. The Miso Soup not only had a terrible smell but an odd unnatural aftertaste. Gross! Comes to mind. Salmon Avocado: Proportionality of ingredient ratios was completely off and amateur. ( See pic.) The sticky rice was also overcooked. Yes, you can overcook sticky rice. Dynamite Roll: I don't know what to say....it didn't look or taste like a Dynamite Roll. Tasteless, stingy and proper Dynamite Roll ingredients missing ( see pic.) Avocado Roll: Well....it was avocado rolled in overcooked rice. Moving on.... They got the most basic Sushi menu items wrong. So truly even the 1 Star is for the polite lady that took my order over the phone. She was nice and professional. And I could understand what she was saying. So, that's good.
