    Menu for combo special
    Melanie E.

Glad to see that my favourite sushi place on the Shore has opened up again. Every time I came here it was for their lunch combo special of $9.50 where you have a choice of almost 30 mix and match items such as agedashi tofu, veggie teriyaki, shrimp tempura roll, and gyoza. The mix and match combo also includes a bowl of miso soup. Without a doubt, it'll satisfy all types of palates. The combo offer is good until 5 pm. Service was prompt and friendly. There's free parking available and is just a few doors down from Save On Foods shopping plaza off Marine Drive and Pemberton Ave. Dining hours are 11:30 am - 8 pm from Monday to Thursday & on Saturdays; 11:30 am to 9 pm on Fridays; 4 pm to 8 pm on Sundays. It's my go-to sushi place whenever I am on the Shore. You'll get good value and service here!

    Spicy salmon sashimi

I decided to venture across the street from my regular go-to, Sushi Town, to be disappointed. I ordered the spicy salmon sashimi and the negitoro roll to-go which I ended up eating right away. It took them over an hour to make my order, and the sashimi was served warm. The spicy sauce for the sashimi was spicy mayo, which didn't taste very good with the sashimi. Thankfully the negitoro was a bit better than the sashimi but only decent. I unfortunately don't think I'll be returning.

Hmmm! This place needs to step it up. I'll keep it short - food was fine, service was terrible.

    Tempura from udon.

Used to come here back when I was much younger. Decided to come back today because I was coming around the corner here with my mom and man did it become bland.... :( This place looks okay and the food was definitely alright but you can definitely do MUCH better for the same price, if not, for better value. The one bone I have to pick with these guys is that they kept getting my mom's udon order wrong. My mom ordered the tempura udon. First it was the wrong order, they got her the chicken instead. When they fixed her order, all they did was that they took the chicken out (she still ended up finding a left over piece of chicken in her udon) and gave her the tempura. Sadly at that point, the udon soup was nearly cold or slightly hotter room temperature. I'm sorry but if you screwed up like this that often in a single sitting, stop trying to fix the problem by horribly scooping up the item (and ended up screwing that up too), and just cook them a NEW batch. I mean, they're not really gonna lose THAT much money by doing it this way anyways. While I don't mind coming back here later on but it'll have to be for a special reason. Trust me, you're better off going to sushi town beside the McDonald's across the street.

Le GF and I went here on our first date years ago. Since then it's changed ownership at least once, but the food has gotten better in that time. I really like sitting at the counter to chat with head chef John who is super friendly, and a die-hard Canucks fan, so this is usually where I'll go to watch games during the season.

Major rip off! 11$ spicy salmon sashimi. There is hardly any salmon. Will never come back.

On special occasions our entire office orders in from Cap Sushi. Sushi Party! You can find Joe, the proprietor behind the counter. Food is fresh and service is friendly. When it's just the boys , I take my 3 and 5 year old in for a Saturday or Sunday lunch and sit at the Sushi Bar. Love this place and the boys LOVE the Hotdog Sushi Roll!!!

Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. It was a beautifully choreographed dining experience, perfect for marking a special moment, and one I'd gladly return to for the next celebration.

This is a more theatrical style so expect louder music and a more theatrical experience (eg one of the servers played the flute for the guests celebrating birthdays). I prefer a more intimidate and interactive style of omakase where you can talk with the chefs. This lunch also felt a little fast in terms of progression of the meal. Some of the dishes were very tasty while others didn't wow us. With drinks, we were quite full despite some reviews saying portion is on the smaller size. Our total was around $500 with drinks for 2 people. A really good experience for omakase, especially if you are looking for a unique experience though not my favourite one I've tried.

It was so light and crispy and the chicken was tender and juicy. Saku's katsu was so good that when I think about the katsus I've had is the past at other places I realize now they were just decent katsu. Other highlights here are their house made sesame dressing - so good. They sliced the cabbage salad so thin that in combination with the sesame dressing it was a great combo. I usually don't like that much raw cabbage but I ate every bit of it. The ambience is airy and cool. The staff were really great and asked us about any allergies. Still comes with a little side of pickles, and unlimited rice, cabbage, and miso soup. No katsu sauce. The katsu was fried to perfection. Juicy, tender, cant complain. But since they serve it in a broth, it does get soggy really quick. Still good, but after a few minutes its just soggy. The broth is nice with rice; comforting kind of meal. The unlimited rice/soup/cabbage is just icing on the cake. My dining partner had the Kake udon (pretty good, noodles good texture and slightly smaller strands than most places) and Menchi Cheese side - basically a pork meatball with cheese and deep fried katsu-style, served with katsu sauce. This was excellent. My original review still stands. Excellent katsu, plus they have the consistency and reliability. $28-30/meal and its plenty of food for 1, especially with unlimited cabbage/rice/soup. Restaurant is nice and comfortable, good spacing and not cramped. Easy recommend. 5/5.

Last weekend, I happened to be in the area with my parents, so we went here for lunch. I was overjoyed that the friendly service and high quality food was as good as I remembered from years ago. Adding to the joyful mood were all the festive touches. The restaurant was decked out with a Christmas tree, garlands, etc., and the staff -- including those I spotted through the kitchen window -- were wearing cute, Christmas-y headbands. Being here just felt really familiar and cozy. Momiji has some great, affordable combos and standalone dishes. There's also plenty of nice things to splurge on. I was in the latter mood, so ordered a piece each of the uni and tobiko izura (fish roe and quail's egg) nigiri, as well as a spider roll (soft shell crab tempura with crab meat, avocado, and cucumber). The uni was really plump; the creaminess and brininess mixed with the rice and nori made for the perfect bite. I enjoyed the tobiko izura too, even though it was a lot messier to eat. That piece was topped with so much tobiko! The egg yolk added richness, making the nigiri even more palatable. From a presentation standpoint, this one is absolutely stunning. Spider rolls have been hit and miss for me, but Momiji's is always a hit. The tempura is so light and crispy, and the pieces aren't tiny either! They do a good job balancing the ratios of the other fillings too. And the teriyaki sauce brushed on top is just the right amount -- not so thick that it overwhelms your palate, nor too faint that you wonder what the point of that component is. The sweet, umami-forward notes of the teriyaki elevate every other ingredient in this roll. Perfection! Note to self: I'll be back, and soon. Thank you Momiji!
