I've been coming to this salon the entire time I've lived in Birmingham and have always loved it. I even drive about 30 minutes just to get here because they usually do such a great job. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was a really disappointing experience. My manicure took an hour and a half, the technician was visibly upset the whole time, and within a day, five of my nails had chipped, and he charged many extra fees that I normally do not pay for. I also ended up with a cut that was bleeding. I had to go to another salon to get them fixed. Typically, this place is wonderful -- just be careful about which nail technician you book with. All of the ladies I have booked with are amazing - so friendly and nails always look great. read more

This USED to be the best nail salon in the area. I used to come here 2x/month for a manicure and 1x a month for a pedicure and they never did a bad job. Unfortunately, things have changed for the worse. I went in yesterday for a mani/pedi after giving my nails a year+ "vacation" from being processed. They gave me the worse manicure I've ever had! The stylist was sloppy in her work and applied the gel/dip powder so thickly that my finished nails are 3x thicker than they should be. Plus, the surface is not even. My nails were filed down so short that they look like circles on the end of my fingers. When I spoke to the manager she told me to say that I don't want that stylist the next time I come and she'll make sure I get the "good stylist." (In fairness, the stylist who did the pedicure was very sweet and did a good job. She's the reason I gave the salon 2 stars instead of 0). read more

Traung did my gel pedicure on my recent visit. He did a decent job but I've had better. During my pedicure , there were times when the water and the hot towels were overwhelming. I jokingly commented that he was trying to melt my skin off! I messed up my big toe once and he messed it up also. I'm not real sure what happened but he immediately fixed it. I was long overdue for a pedicure , so it felt great to be pampered! They even have new chairs and there's a warming setting available on the new chairs- I LOVE this feature! I had a pedicure at Sapphire Nails Saturday afternoon, July 1. The young tech rubbed my calves so hard that on the way home I realized the skin had been broken on my left leg. I was concerned because she had worn gloves but had messed around with her phone during the pedicure. Sure enough, by the next morning the area was red and itchy and by night, it was blistered, swelling and oozing. By Monday am, my whole calf was swollen and the red area was hot. I just spent all morning, it's Monday, sitting in urgent care. The culture won't be back for 3 days but I've gotten shot and prescribed antibiotics for the infection. This has cost time, money, and discomfort and still unsure just what it is. Beware friends. read more

I like the fact that you can schedule an appointment on the weekends(and during the week). It isn't a gamble lf when you will get service. Everyone working there follows the same standards. They sanitize and clean constantly. And they use plastic in the pedicure bowls now. I hope they recycle all of the paper and plastic they use. read more

Kim brought me a bottle of water and smiled, then began working on my nails. There was no small talk, how are you? - nothing. She stopped several times to talk to other techs but pretty much said nothing to me. Kim did a decent - good job on my nails. She did the tape strips on my eyebrows but nothing extra - no scissors no plucking $10. I recieved basic, minimal customer service. So I have come here many many times over the past few years and sure there are some techs who do great work and others are so so. Today unfortunately was the day I got a really bad technician. He was not friendly but that is fine. I am not a talker. The only problem was the nail paint was not looking right on my big toe so I said something to the technician and that started the downfall. He tried to fix it and touch it up but it looked like a big mess so I said so. He told me it was my toe not his polish job so I said maybe file the toenail more or do something. He then decided to rip my shoe off which he had already put on before the clear coat. When he ripped my shoe off he took my nail polish with it all over my flip flops. At that point I was mad. Now I have blue polish on my flojos. So I told the technician next to me that maybe he should find the owner who came over to asses the situation. I told the owner that maybe this technician should just start over and I should get another technician. The owner said the current technician will try to make me happy and he left. Well he tried again but it just got worse. The paint got everywhere and while I was trying to remove the polish from my shoes, the acetone took off some color on my flip flops and now they look well crazy. I finally told him to just stop and I needed to leave because I was mad. He offered to not charge me but I paid because I am not trying to get anything free. I then went to the owner and reiterated that ripping my shoe off was not professional and that was why I am mad. The owner really has nothing to say other than next time we will do better. I started going to this place for a about a month off and on trying to find a new home after my favorite shop closed down. I've never had a problem and like others have said, although they are usually busy they never have a long wait. I got my nails done on a Tuesday and by Friday one had broke. They're are fairly short and strong so it was odd that it snapped clean off. That Saturday i went to the salon and explained what happened. A few people had remembered-me coming in and after 20 minutes of searching a younger female employee and im ASSUMING the male owner found my receipt and agreed to repair the nail if I was willing to wait 30 minutes. After working all week I decided to come back the next day, Sunday, to get the repair. When I came in, I got no acknowledgement. After a dew moments someone asked what I needed and I attempted to explain again. The woman (not sure of her name she has a short hair cut) cuts me off and says "if its broken,its broken" and pointed me in the direction of her station. I kid you not she did the repair in less than 5 minutes and the attached picture is what I was left with. Misshapen, bumping, missing acrylic. All over a 6$ nail repair? (Mind you the other nails were done less than a week ago and are lifting) Smh. The hunt for a new home continues. read more

IF ZERO STARS WAS AN OPTION!! I used to happily get my pedicures there but 2 times ago I asked specifically if they could do the most basic of Nail sets and the girl working didn't understand me and then couldn't execute them I left crying only fo have to go back 2 hours later as 2 nails peeled off get them fixed and decide not to leave a review even though they damaged my cuticles but you get what you pay for/ Then this Friday I called to fix a broken nail, the whole nail came off and I said can we come 3pm Saturday and she said no problem Saturday and called said I'm 5 min late and she said come at 530 if said I can't come then I have a 3 pm appointment, she said she's very busy I get on it's just her working with 4 customers right said to have an appointment she said come back at 530 don't come back until I call . I asked what time she was open until as that time didn't work for me and she shooed me out of the salon then calls me at 4:35 I said I can't come now she said come at 5 I said I can't and never mind. She also said she thought when I called it was a nail she'd done that broken that's the only reason she even said yes but never asked that on the phone. She was rude; unprofessional, slow. Limited talent works alone. Waste of money. Save your money time and tears. Tbh I don't know how they have the fairings they do with cloudy gems, shakey line work and sticker designs. read more

It has been 5 days and this gel polish on my nails is already cracking and my nails are breaking. These are my natural nails. I'm not that harsh with my nails. I went to scratch my scalp and noticed that my nail was pulling some strands...looked down and my nail was broken so I had to pull tge rest of it off. Also, take a look at the single middle finger photo. My nail has a crack in it in to which I am uncertain if its the gel has a crack in it or if its my natural nail breaking underneath. This was only my second time here. Oh and let's not forget all the orange polish that was left on top of my feet and cracks of my toes after a polish change. I mentioned it to the nail tech and she was like, "Oh it hard to get off. Just wash off." Isn't that what I'm paying you all to do?! No... skip this one and go to another salon. Also, you guys should have seen my mom's SNS nails after one week... they were cracked and actually peeling off on all fingers! She was so ashamed of her nails and when we mentioned it to the owner he just replied, "It's time for redo." That's not how GOOD SNS acts. I've been getting SNS for a long time. They are very dismissive of your concerns but don't mind charging you. I'm afraid I need these 2 nails fixed for this particular color. After all, I spent nearly $100 this past weekend. But after this fix, I am done with them for good. Pitiful. I don't think they are taking the old SNS and gel colors out of their collection,only adding to it. That's why they have many colors to choose from. If you have a bad polish, its worth it to remove it from the collection. read more

I have gone here for years. It's been a range of eh and okay but it's close to my house and it has a good kids area. I went last night, granted it's close to Christmas but the place was crazy with nearly every seat full. My daughter and mother-in-law waited an hour before getting their nails done. My lady, Cinthia 2, seemed agitated and annoyed the whole time and to no fault of our own, we had a hard time communicating with one another. Her pedicure was subpar and the foot/leg massage was nonexistent. For a reason unknown to me, she did not like that I was changing from SNS to gel nails. After a lengthy and frustrating conversation about the color I picked looking completely different than the sample, (neon instead of emerald green) she fought me on every other color I tried to pick out. I could tell that she was just done with me and honestly, I was pretty done with her. I was ready to just go home and cry and not get my nails done. The manager (I assume) came over but didn't have a lot to say. I try not to ever be "that person" and complain but the whole thing was just weird and super uncomfortable. It's expensive and something I really look forward to. When I told them I just wanted to pay for my toes and my daughter and leave, I was told that I already had the clear gel coat on and it would have to be removed. All I kept thinking was that they were going to charge me for a full gel mani, and then a gel removal and then I'd still walk away with nothing and be pissed. Which stressed me out even more. I picked a random color so I could get out of there and Cinthia 2 and I didn't speak. She was pissed. I was pissed. Then, as luck would have it, I noticed a weird bubble forming on my left thumb. Reluctantly, I brought it to her attention. She essentially told me that filing my nail would fix it. She proceeded to file all of my nails - lube up my arm with a ton of lotion and barely give me any resemblance of an arm massage (arguably the best part of a manicure) and had the man at the front check me out. Didn't say a word to me. It pained me to do it but I did not leave a tip. I was furious and I can honestly say, I have never been so bummed out over something as silly as a manicure, in my life. I'm not rich and after spending $120 for toes that were messed up, fingernails with random bubbles and chips, and my daughters mani/pedi that looks just okay, I can honestly say, I will never go back to Sapphire Nails. read more

The salon was very pretty and clean.. my friend and I came for a pedicure and gel mani after the salon we originally planned to go to was closed. We waited maybe five minutes and we were brought to the pedi room. I thoroughly enjoyed my pedicure, I got the spa one with a scrub and the guy who performed my service took his time and did a great job. I was passed off to another lady to finish my nails. I get my gel polish changed every two weeks so I am familiar with how the service normally goes. The lady after filing my nails and buffing them began painting without getting off any of the dust. Upon leaving I noticed the bubbles under the polish which I had never seen before. It's been less then 24 hrs and my pointer finger and middle finger have both already chipped. I was cooking manicotti and doing nothing strenuous to cause them to chip. I have never had my nails done and had two chip in less then 24 hours. I paid over a hundred dollars for this service and feel like I got ripped off. I live thirty minutes from this place or I would go by the salon tomorrow and have them fixed. They are unprofessional and it is one older lady that sits in the front that did my daughters nails and everything she asked her to do she did not do it my daughter showed her a design she wanted and instead of saying she couldn't do it she just polished her nails and sent her to dry then when I asked for management he told me her nails were 45 and with the designs she wanted it would be $15 more making the total 60. Well when it's time to pay now all of the sudden the lady that couldn't do the nails comes back and now it's 45+35 the 35 is for diamonds They didn't even do all of the things that we signed in for them to do like toe polish changes or anything. I decided to try their chrome nails, which they charge an extra $15 for and they turned out awful. There were streaks and imprints all over multiple nails and the tech took an hour and a half to complete. I returned the next day to get them fixed and was told that Chrome nails are not going to look the same on each finger and the streaks I was complaining about were normal for the look. This is the worst nail design I've ever seen and to be treated like I was crazy and the imperfections in my nails were unnoticeable is unacceptable. read more

I used to go to this salon a few years ago and I stopped going because the techs acted like they were in a race to get done to break a world record. I was so tired of them rushing through resulting in poor quality. It wasn't enjoyable and I felt ripped off, so I stopped going. Recently, I decided to try it again, so I went back for 2 pedicures over the past couple of months and it seems that nothing has changed in that respect. Neither tech I had could paint nails worth a flip. It looked like a kindergartener had painted them. They don't use cuticle remover, don't even push the cuticles back, don't follow requests, don't take more than 15 seconds to shape the nails on one foot and do minimal clean up. The worst part by far is the painting. I take my own polish and the result seems like they don't even know how to paint. They don't paint the whole nail, flood the cuticles, don't let each coat dry even a little bit, and the very strange dabbing painting style using almost no polish results in a lumpy and bumpy finish. It's shocking that these people are supposedly formally educated to do this work. Im not wasting money there anymore. Instead of complaining and being labeled a Karen, I just won't go back. Based on other reviews, it seems like I'm not alone. Maybe one day they will pay attention. read more

I have never been more dissatisfied with my nails. I have been getting acrylic gel nails for over 5 years and this is the first time I have ever had an issue with how my nails turned out. They are all completely uneven despite me speaking up and asking the nail tech to make changes to things that didn't look right to me.
