I went to the Nail shop I last had a manicure (walk-in) and was told they could see me at 5 pm and it was just a little after 10 am. I definitely wasn't coming back. So, I quickly jumped on Yelp and saw good reviews on Riviera by other fellow Yelpers. I called and told them I could be there at 11:30 and they were glad to get me in. They were very welcoming when I arrived. Helen did my pedi and mani. She was fast!!! Before doing any filing or cutting of my toenails or fingernails she made sure to ask if I wanted them just shaped or cut down. She made sure she was not hurting me and that the towels used on my legs and arms were not too hot. She had great follow thru. So glad I was able to get in when I did because business picked up pretty quickly. Riviera is now on my list for Nail shop options. read more

I have been going here, primarily for S&S manicures, for about 2.5 years. The girl who does my nails is sweet and does a fair job, but if she's out of town, every other tech that has done my S&S has done a poor job. My nails end up uneven, thick, and bumpy. Even my regular tech seems to have problems getting my gel topper to cure correctly and I often have to come back shortly after having them done because my top coat is dull and dingy looking. Additionally, after all the time I've been going there, I'm treated pretty poorly by the staff. They can be very rude and dismissive and I've witnessed them being rude to other customers. The worst part is that I've had two pedicures there in the last 2 months and I got a toe fungus! I'm not sure if it was the bowl or the supplies. My doctor said it could be the nail polish itself since the brush is used on everyone's toes and not sanitized, but repeatedly placed in and out from toe to bottle and back. I'm absolutely horrified and disgusted. Many of their practices, even with manicures, are unsanitary. They refill polish bottles that are crusted over and goopy, I've seen them reuse towels and not wash their hands or change their gloves in between clients. I would be weary of this salon. read more

Today, I received one of the best pedicures I've ever had. Period. The young, male tech who did my pedicure today was thorough and relaxing. The pedicure was so good it prompted me to update my review of this place. Like I said in my original review, I normally come here and get pedicures. Generally, I'm always satisfied with my pedicures, but some of the techs truly shine when it comes to doing a pedicure. The young man today was phenomenal! He paid close attention to make sure my toenails were all even and shaped properly. He did great cleaning up my cuticles and making sure he didn't get polish on my cuticles or skin. I got the $30 Spa Pedicure, which is the most inexpensive one, but you get the foot soak, cuticle grooming, foot scrub, massage, and heated towels. I chose to get gel polish instead of regular polish. That adds an additional $20. Trust me, the gel polish is worth it! I find that gel polish lasts much longer than the regular polish. Also, gel polish keeps my toenails from breaking at the most inopportune times--like summer vacation when I'm going to be in flip flops 24/7. This place has been consistent with service, quality, and pricing so bumping them up to 5 stars seems fair! read more

Rude, discriminatory and RACIST! Came to get a pedicure. While there were about 15 folks getting manicures up front, there were none getting pedicures in the back. Initially, they said it would be 15 minutes, which was fine because I'm reading a book. One of the managers, however, came after less than five to take me to the back where there were about 10 pedicure massage chairs. Again, I was the only person in the back. The manager takes me to a chair- the last seat in the back nearest the restroom. I ask to first use the ladies room. I came out and there was no one there. No water running, no plastic in the pedicure bowl- nothing in preparation for me. Cool... I have a book. I sit and begin to read and notice 5 minutes have passed since I came out of the ladies and still no one has come over to prep for the pedi. People are walking all around me, including the man who seated me. Then another man comes with a woman. He immediately puts the plastic liner in and runs the water and he invites her to take a seat and begins her service. This woman is seated at the very first chair. More time lapses and I decide to turn on the massage chair. More time lapses and I decide to rest the back of my calves on the rest of the pedicure stand. Didn't want to do this because there is still no towel or plastic covering. Finally a woman named "Van" comes out and yells at me "TAKE YOUR BOOTS OFF". I ask her if that is the proper way to speak to a guest. She repeats the offense. I ask for a manager. She storms off speaking in an unknown language. More time passes and several workers come out looking at me, but no manager. Finally the man who seated me comes out and I asked where the manager was. He said he was the manager. I asked whether Van told him I requested his presence, he said no. I asked for the owner. The woman comes over, and I explain to her what happened and stated the obvious- I, as a Black woman was seated at the last seat, nearest the bathroom, while the young white presenting woman was seated immediately in front. She starts yelling at me stating they are not racist... thirty minutes later, I leave without a pedicure. Black women and lovers of Black women: do not frequent places that don't treat Black women with the common courtesy and respect we deserve. read more

Bad service and bad quality. Van did a very sloppy job and was not personable at all. There are much better places in Hoover with employees that are so kind despite a language barrier, and pay attention to detail. Other employees might provide better quality than Van, but overall I observed an extremely impersonal staff who ignored anyone who tried to talk to them because they were too focused on their own conversations. This place is expensive and always packed, and I don't know why. I only went here because my usual place closes earlier (the one by publix on 150- highly recommend) anyways, I didn't want to ask her to fix anything bc I felt like if she knew how to do a better job she would've. Well, I have been going here for many years. I got my nails done twice recently and they didn't last a week. Yesterday I got my nails done with SNS for a third time and this morning my nail broke. For my nails to not even last a full 24 hours is ridiculous. Not sure if they have made changes to any products but I am traveling and don't have time to go back for them to fix it. Vy was my tech and was super rough and fast when removing my dip, to the point that I was pulling my hand back because the tool was starting to burn multiple nail beds. 2 of my nails could have used tips but she did not add them for some reason and the shade of the color I chose turned out to be about 3 shades darker than it should have been. Overall a really bad experience that has now left me with stubby nails and a darker shade that definitely ages me. read more

I am local to Hoover and have grown up in the area, but have never had a place to routinely visit for a fresh manicure that provided stellar service. That changed when Riviera opened! I consider myself a regular here for manicures and pedicures. I have taken pictures from Pinterest for my vision for nails and they have made it come true time after time! They recently updated their pedicure chairs to provide a more hygienic service and they do offer water, soda, and wine. The staff is friendly and fun to be around, too! I always look forward to going back. I do think they are higher priced than surrounding shops but the service and quality they provide is worth it. read more

I decided to give this nail salon a try, since it just opened on 6/28/2015 and my normal nail salon wasn't open this week. I am so glad that I called for an appointment!! I was greeted by a smiling young woman who had me sign in and pick my toenail color, and I was immediately taken to the back for my pedicure. The place was beautifully decorated, there were 12 pedicure stations for adults, and they even had three stations designed for younger kids. I was offered water and a glass of wine. Dali did my pedicure, and she did an excellent job! She brought sanitized tools to my station, was gentle with my feet, and we even had a nice conversation while she worked. I usually don't do too many new nail salons because of the horror stories I hear, but this place is really great and the service was excellent as well. I will definitely be coming back!! read more

Update: as you can see from this business owners comment, they are very rude and disrespectful to customers. I'm sharing my experience and he/she is on my post yelling and justifying rude behavior. Point proven with the comment here. Sad that they have time to reply to a post but was dismissive of me when I was in the salon, early and waiting. Additionally, you judge the black woman by a look on her face?!? Even though I walked in and said good morning and notified the front that I had an appointment?!? Point just proven, how you judge someone that is always polite and tips by a "look on their face".?? If you care about how you're treated where you spend your money, don't spend it here! If you read other reviews, you will see that I am NOT the only person that has experienced this here! I hate to be this person but this group of "nail techs" are visibly rude to a certain hue of people. I noticed it on my second visit but considered that person may have had a bad day. As I began to pay more attention, I realize that they greet certain people with a lot of enthusiasm and barely speak to others. My final straw was today. Last time I was 10 minutes late, my appointment got bumped and I had to come back in 3 hours. I scheduled the first appointment of the day, was there second person to walk in the door and realized that everyone was being serviced timely, being that I had to go to work I asked if someone else could service me being that my person was 15 minutes late with them not even so much as thanking me for my patience. When I asked, they gave me the impression that they were annoyed by my question. The guy then say "he be here shortly" and turned around. Very rude. Between that and the additional things that I have observed, I knew better than to come here. If you are anything other than what they like, you will have terrible customer service. A horrible experience. They were very lazy when it came to fixing my broken nail. They knew they were putting the wrong color pink french tip powder on my finger and still proceeded. They did not want to put my nails under the gel light when I was finished. My overall experience here was horrible. Van actually shouted at me for putting my sandals back on and messing up a toe nail and asking that it be fixed -- something I did because they were closing the shop at 6:30 (instead of the posted 7 pm closing time) and making it VERY clear we needed to go. The lady that did my nails did an absolutely terrible job. The nail on my pinky finger is completely slanted. I had tips put on two of my nails and she built the bead to large. Hot new nail salon near my house... This place just opened at the end of June and is already packing in quite a crowd. I stopped in on Monday afternoon and I got right in but the ladies who arrived after me waited 30 or so minutes for a service. I know its new, but the interior is clean, nicely decorated, the layout is good, tools and pedi basins all seem very sanitized, and the employees are all super nice and don't really gab with one another (which I totally appreciate). The prices are all comparable to everything else in the area (ie, basic mani/pedi - $50). They are offering 25% off right now for their grand opening..unsure when that will end though. Reception desk right when you walk in, a wall of polish to your right (OPI, Essie, Orly, etc...); so many colors to choice from there is no reason why you wouldn't find your favorite here. They had all the new OPI colors, plus some oldies (Thrill of Brazil - my absolute fav!). The manicure stations are also in the front area. Clean areas that include built in fans for drying in between coats or just staying cool - genius! Pedicure chairs are behind the wall - super comfy and oversized. Upon being seated I was given a bottle of water and asked if I wanted any wine. So far great customer service. I received a classic manicure and a candle wax pedicure. I requested the mani first so it has more time dry which they happily did. The mani was good - brisk but certainly not rushed. Sometimes I find that it can take an hour or more to get a good mani, but I think I was done in under 45 minutes. Was perfect. I moved onto the pedi chair and had a great experience there too. The tech took his time, gave a great leg/foot massage and had a friendly personality. I would likely not opt for the candle wax pedi next time as I didn't think it was anything special.... basically they light a candle and pour the wax over your legs/feet. I was expecting a paraffin feel but the candle wax wasn't really warm. Other than that portion of the service, everything was great. I think I found my new favorite nail salon! Granted, I didn't have an appointment, but when I walked in, I was told it would only be a few minutes to be attended to. 45 minutes of waiting later, I walked out with only a "sorry" from the technician. I wasn't even offered water while I waited. What a disappointment! Let me clarify: I hate giving 1 star. But this was awful customer service. My pedicure tech was Helen and she was so impolite. She didn't ask if the water was an ok temp, which it wasn't bc it was literally burning and I had to remove my feet until she added cold water. I got there at 1040 am and asked for a deluxe pedicure and was done at 1105. 25 minutes. My friend got there at 1030am and got the basic pedicure and finished at 1110am. So I got a more expensive pedicure, but it took less time than the cheaper pedicure? How does that make sense? I'm super ticklish, so I asked her very politely if she could scrub my feet a little slower so I could tolerate it and instead of just saying ok cool, she got an attitude and VERY RUDELY says to me "it doesn't matter if I go slow or fast." Well, Helen, I'm glad you know my body better than me. Ironically, when she did go slow, my body relaxed and could tolerate the scrubbing. My hot towels were literally removed in one minute. I was looking at my phone when she put them on and took them off, so I noticed the time. My friend got hers put on at the same time and they stayed on for 4 more min after mine had been taken off. Just tried this nail salon because it is in my neighborhood but I will never return. Michelle was my nail tech and she was very RUDE! She barely said anything to me but spoke to every WHITE person that came through the door. She was rough with removing my nails which I'm assuming that she did not want to do from the moment I walked in from her facial expressions to her speaking in a different language looking towards me . When it was time to make payment she placed my card on the counter when I had my hand out the same way I handed it to her. I do not tolerate disrespect and if you are any different race other than white I do not recommend this location. I've been getting pedis and occasional gel/SNS manis here for about a year. The reason I started going to this salon instead of to my usual one, was because it was closer to my house. I stayed with this salon because the service is great, I've never had to wait long, and most of the time, the experience was relaxing. Miley (the owner) is always nice to me. I don't have a particular nail technician, just whoever's available. It can get pretty crowded (Fridays and Saturdays, before big weekends, before high school events like homecoming, prom, etc), but I tend to go during the weekday. read more
