Upfront, they wanted $89 for diagnostic/trip charge and WILL NOT waive the charge If you end up going with them. When the guy got there, he said the fuses are out. So before any diagnostic, he needs to replace a fuses and repair some wires which is like $260. After that he It says he needs to install a hard start capacitor kit $400 or the unit won't start. So looking like $775 total. At that point, I felt that these prices are a bit on the high side. Hard start kit is like $50 in materials and 3 wires to hookup. I know this well cuz I repair my own AC at my own house. I called the office and they suddenly said the hard start kit was optional. Not sure if it's just me or these guys are on the pricier side.

I figured this was perfect timing to connect with the team at Larson and schedule a visit. Scheduling was a breeze and the office staff are incredibly nice and accommodating. My technician James was running a little early for our appointment, and I was given the option to keep my existing service window or have him arrive early. We bumped up my appointment and he arrived right on time. James was incredibly polite, professional and paid close attention to every detail, making sure to clean up after himself. I fully expected James to find some issues with my AC unit as I know Larson operates by a different philosophy than some other service providers. My experience is that Larson likes to be proactive and give you the opportunity to tackle issues before they become emergencies (super important as your ac unit gets older). This can be seen as both good and bad depending on your goals and needs for your AC unit. The choice is always yours to proceed with the work or wait on it. I'm grateful they provide me with data and information to make an informed decision. The owner, Lucas, arrived and we could tell he was a good guy, our dog absolutely loved him too! Unlike previous technicians, Lucas inspected the unit thoroughly in the attic and invited my husband up to show him the issue: badly rusted coils that needed eventual replacement. Also a confirmed refrigerant leak that we had mentioned to him causing problems for us the past couple of years. He patiently answered all of our questions, explained costs clearly, and never pressured us into buying a new system. Since we weren't ready for major work, he cleaned both pipes and we told him we would be contacting him for anything HVAC related moving forward. By December, the refrigerant leak caused our heat to fail. Having discussed it since his last visit, my husband and I decided to replace our 15-year-old unit rather than patch ongoing problems. We chose one of Lucas's recommended systems, and he and his team installed it in two days (finishing on New Year's Eve!). While they were there, they found a way to reduce the cost of the work. The work was completed, and then they asked for payment. Weeks went by with no contact and then one day they reached out requesting more money. It was never explained that everything wasn't paid in full when they came out and did the work and were now asking for $800 more. It wasn't so much that they were asking for more money (which once it was broken down, it made sense), it was their attitude and how quick they were to sending to me collections. They claimed they phoned me but I never received any calls. I told them I didn't believe I owed more money and then one day I received a notice of cancellations. It also was sent with a notice to reply by a specific date that already passed so essentially they sent me a notice to pay by a date that had already passed. I liked them at first, but wouldn't wish this company on anyone now. Side note. The crew that came out and did the work were great guys! Office admin TERRIBLE. Buyer Beware.
