As someone with Caribbean roots, I was excited to try Sapodilla's while out in Ft Washington, MD. This was my first visit and it didn't disappoint. The 2 women in the front were very friendly and felt like family, as well as the woman in the back. I was with my father and we ordered the bone-in curry chicken roti, red snapper, spinach, 2 ginger beers, and a fresh, soursop ginger drink to take home. My dad drank his ginger beer and I drank the soursop while there and the soursop ginger was perfect.. When we got home, we immediately opened our items and dug in. Everything was flavorful, well-seasoned, and delicious. My Caribbean mother even enjoyed. I will be going back when I'm in the area again.

My fiancé is Guyanese, so this place has been on our "to eat" list since we found out about it a few months ago. What we had: *OXTAIL STEW DINNER w/ RICE + PEAS *JERK GRILLED SALMON DINNER w/JASMINE RICE + FRIED CABBAGE *FRIED PLANTAINS (side) Everything was made to order, so there was a wait. I was the only customer there at the time, so it wasn't too bad -- 15-20 minutes, tops. My order was piping hot, so I didn't mind at all. Pricier than I expected, but it was good. I'm fairly new to eating Caribbean food and don't have much to compare it to restaurant-wise, so these prices might be standard. I'll be back soon to check out some of the other items and hopefully catch the lunch special. **There's also an event space next door for hosting and catering functions. __ I eat. @f.hux I thrift. @DCthriftish

The Embassy of Guyana had SaPoDilla's cater their open house event, so that endorsement up front was a great sign! I ordered the chicken curry with roti and it was so delicious and filling. Excited to visit the restaurant in person!

I have been to this restaurant twice within a month which is unusual for me. The first time I ordered the oxalis stew and jerked chicken; and on Friday, 1/20/23 i got curry goats just like my first orders; the flavors were deep, rich, not quite like the Jamaican flavors I remembered but closed and very delicious. The restaurant owners are Ghanaian and Jamaican so the flavors melted together beautifully and deliciously balanced. I got a spinach patty and curry boneless chicken: the patty filling was delicious but the dough was not flaky as the Jamaican's patty. And the curry chicken; the spices did not penetrate the meat which did not leave a deep rich lingering flavors and the chicken was dried. However, the cabbages, rice and peas were perfectly seasoned. I will definitely go back for the oxalis, jerked chicken; curry goats: hands down the best in the areas!

Sapodillas is a hidden gem! I stumbled across this restaurant looking for a Caribbean restaurant for a same night dinner reservation for a solo outing. From the website, and Google reviews and images I found I wanted to try it.. and not one regret! The restaurant was relatively close to me yet I've never been in that particular area. I'm soooo happy I came across this place, because I will certainly be back! The restaurant is cozy, cute, and picturesque. Far beyond aesthetics the customer service is exceptional! After briefly reviewing the website for details I totally agree and love the restaurant's values! Entering you instantly feel welcomed and all the staff make you feel at home, like family! That's an experience you don't get many places! The staff go above and beyond to meet your needs and ensure you have everything needed. For my solo outing it was actually a solo weekday birthday dinner, and the waiter and waitress surprised me with a bunt cake and even sang to me! In fact, the whole restaurant sang a second round of happy birthday to me which was so beyond kind and thoughtful. This tells you a lot about the customers they attract. The food was amazing, the atmosphere is great, and the drinks are pretty, strong, and delicious! 10/10 I do recommend and will be returning with my friends.

OMG PG County's hidden GEM! This is what quality looks like! This is what flavor taste like! This is what outstanding customer service feels like... Stop what your doing.. Stop thinking about what you want to eat ...head over now.. you will not regret the drive and your stomach will thank you later... PS grab a cup of the Pineapple, Cucumber Ginger Drink!

    Saltfish and bake

I have given this business various opportunities to provide a different customer experience and it appears that they just don't have it. I've ordered catering for an event and a la carte. I placed an order of two saltfish and bake ($10 each), I was told they had to check to see if they had the second order available or if they were sold out. I waited 15min for my order to be ready and went back to my car to find only one order of saltfish and bake in my bag. When it was taken back, I was questioned about why it was opened and told to wait. They returned with the second order and said they "forgot". 1. They're filling up the container with two bakes, knowing full well the amount of saltfish they give you is not two bakes worth. 2. They epitomize wrong and strong... it's always your own people! Unfortunately, if you are familiar with Guyanese food and have any kind of broughtupsy, this place isn't for you.

    Tilapia special
    Jenny T.

Everything I've had so far has been good. Last time I had the chicken patty it was on the dry side, but I appreciate that this place is consistent. I've also gotten the curry tilapia special and jerk chicken which are both flavorful and plentiful in portion sizes. I think the chicken is a bit dry though- and the meat doesn't quite fall off the bone. Although my order has been messed up more than once, they never fail to correct and provide good customer service. When I'm craving Caribbean food I can count on them to be open during the hours they say...and they don't run out of patties.

The ordering process was smooth; I had a friend help me modify the selection, and another handled the pickup. The food was absolutely delicious. In fact, my only complaint is that I didn't order more--everything disappeared much faster than I anticipated! The only area for improvement involves the online inquiry system. I submitted a custom catering request through the website and never received a response, so I would recommend a more consistent process for monitoring and replying to digital inquiries. Despite that minor communication hiccup, I will definitely be a repeat customer. The food is truly excellent!

Period…read more I've been seeing this place all over social media, so when I found myself in the area, I had to see what the hype was about. First off, parking is easy. It's in a shopping center, so nothing stressful there, and the restaurant itself is easy to spot. Walking in, the first thing I noticed was how clean, polished, and classy everything looked. Even though it was busy, it didn't feel chaotic. The staff immediately greeted me and asked if it was my first time which I appreciated. They didn't just rush me through the line; they actually took time to explain the menu, how the bowls are built, and offered samples. That alone made the experience feel welcoming and intentional. Now let's get into the FOOD. Everything looked fresh. They have about four rice options (which is already a win), and I went with the pineapple coconut rice. For my protein, I chose grilled chicken, but they also offer shrimp, salmon, and even a mushroom option for vegetarians and honestly, the mushrooms looked so good I almost switched. For my added sides, I kept it simple because I really wanted to taste everything. Collard greens and sweet potatoes. But they also had plantains, and okra....real deal soul food options. Then you get into the fresh toppings. Slaws, carrots, pickled veggies. I kept it light. I finished my bowl with collard green pesto (which intrigued me, and I'm glad I tried it) and added an étouffée sauce over my rice... and listen!!!!! That combo? Chef's kiss. I grabbed a tropical punch juice, and just like everything else, it tasted fresh and well-made. Let me say this clearly: the food is a 10/10. If you're someone who will give Chipotle chance after chance, then you absolutely owe it to yourself to try Spice Black. 10/10. Worth your money. Worth the hype. Worth the experience.

The things I initially ordered were not available but rather than tell me that they disappeared into the back without telling me if or when they would be ready. After playing the waiting game, I decided to order something that was already out. The oxtail was pretty good (8/10) but nothing else on my plate was worth eating, including the rice. The callaloo wasn't nasty it just wasn't right (6/10), but the cabbage was the worst (4/10). It was too much ginger? And it didn't seem cooked down all the way. I would only recommend this spot to Americans (who've never had Jamaican food).
