My annual skin checks and medical dermatology needs are always handled professionally and with care by PA Jordan. She is a wealth of knowledge and provides excellent care. Kaitlinn is beyond amazing. She is so good at what she does and I always have optimal results with her treatments (e.g., photofacials, laser hair removal, microneedling, hydrafacials, etc). Kaitlinn and Jennifer have worked together to give me a manageable skincare routine that has, in some cases, given me immediate results. This is the first dermatology office that I've walked into that I didn't feel like I was trying to sold on or pressured into buying something. Would HIGHLY recommend (and I do, often). The worst! They overcharged me by $150. Luckily we caught it a month later thru our insurance co. When I called for a refund they said it was a credit on my account. I had to request a refund. I'm assuming they think no one will ever check or ask then they keep that $$. THEN, they said it will take 5 weeks to credit back. DISHONEST! read more

Dr. Lain is young, nice, personable. I went in for a few different problems and came out with a recommendation to buy $300 worth of his products. That just felt wrong. Also, I asked for moles on my face to be removed, using a suture method to also get rid of the hairs growing in the moles. He decided to scrape the moles instead and told me to let him know if they came back. He told me this at the end of that visit. And guess what, those moles all came back. I was peeved and also have no idea when I'll have 3 weeks of time that I won't be see in public to do this. Beyond the above problems, his staff repeatedly underwhelmed me. A few were friendly and few others seemed cold and dispassionate. I couldn't get anyone to return my calls, couldn't get them to send me products that I had ordered and couldn't get them to give me a receipt for the products. I put up with it for 2 years, but honestly it's just not worth the aggravation. read more

I've had sun spots successfully removed in one treatment before by another doctor who is now retired. I recently went to Dr Lain and after one treatment there was no difference. I'm not sure if he took it personally when I returned but the second treatment actually made the spots FAR worse than they originally were. I would never recommend this place to a friend. read more

This is a great practice. The Doctors, PA, Nurses and staff. Everyone is very courteous, compassionate,friendly and knowledgeable. The facility is very clean and wonderful atmosphere. My husband and I both had appointments with Dr. Lain as a new patients. The staff was unfriendly and seemed hurried. Dr. Lain ordered a series of blood test to help determine my problem. When I didn't hear for one week I called for results. Finally two days later the nurse called to say there might be a marginal issue and I could start a med. Certainly didn't feel confident, so consulted with my primary physician and he said I definitely didn't need any meds. Never heard from Dr. Lain directly. My husband had several areas treated and when we went for second appointment Dr. Lain did a biopsy in his ear. 8 days later I called for the biopsy results and left message for nurse. After getting no results two more days passed and I called again. The receptionist said they were extremely busy with botox treatments and were just behind. She would have someone call me. Finally a person called, not identifying himself, perhaps a nurse or PA, and said my husband would need surgery. He gave me the name of the surgeon and said that office would call to set up appointment. Really!!! Where is the doctor? Sounds like they are more interested in botox and skin repair than they are with basal cell carcinoma. So, bottom line is I would never, never recommend Dr. Lain or any of his staff. read more

I recently had a very bad case of psoriasis in my scalp that has been bothering me for over 2 weeks, so I finally had to see a dermatologist while visiting in Austin. I found Dr. Lain, was able to get in quick when an opening came up and am glad that I did. Dr. Lain prescribed an over the counter shampoo (T-Gel) and a prescription foam medicine that I had to rub into my scalp. It has been just 4 days since treatment started and it is so much better. Great job doc, and thanks for helping me. read more

I have seen him for several things ranging from moles being removed to Botox. My experience was okay. Not enough Botox, very expensive per unit, and not great results. The problem I have with his office staff. They are incredibly rude and don't know the first thing when it comes to customer service. The office manager herself is so rude. Several women out here in Steiner have stopped going to him just b/c of his staff. When I am paying hundreds of dollars somewhere I expect to be greeted with a smile and then a thank you which you never get from them. Horrilble!!! Won't return again to that office. read more

Besides being thorough, detailed, and very professional, Dr Moore went above and beyond by finding and properly diagnosing a more serious issue. Dr. Lain is my go to dermatologist for everything skin related. I have been going to Dr. Lain for over 3 years, and he has never pointed me in the wrong direction. Long story short, Dr. Lain is the best shooter (injection giver), and I won't let anyone else touch my skin. First of all, when I called to make my initial appointment, the girl who answered couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. She was very nice and easy to talk to. She got me an appointment asap on the day I needed and the time I preferred. Also, they are in network with my insurance so that was nice too. The drive, tho a bit far from where I live, was very easy to find and not bad at all. I arrived on time to a very clean office. The receptionist, was professional, she greeted me right away. Not personable, but professional. I probably sat a total of 5 minutes in the waiting area and was brought back to a nice little room. Within seconds, a gal by the name of Mia came in. She introduced herself with a nice smile and immediately asked me what I was in for. She listened to everything I had to say and was very friendly and again, professional. within another few minutes, Dr. Lain came in, introduced himself and got down to business. My visit with him, I have to say was very very quick, and to be honest rushed is how I felt. He never asked me how I was doing, how I heard about him or where I lived or what I did for a living. He just got straight to my concerns and gave a quick answer or suggestions, I should say, as to how I can fix or address my problem. Then just like that, he was gone to see his next patient. It was obvious he was busy. Before I knew it, I was walking to my car. My new patient appointment from the time I checked in to the time I walked out the door lasted all of 30 minutes! Good because, I don't like hanging around the doctors office on my day off, but, still a bit surprised, because, being the first time there, I would have thought it would have taken a little longer. Maybe if he had been a little more "personable" then maybe I would've been there at least 5 more minutes. I guess thats just asking too much these days. Most doctor offices I visit are the same way. Well, the ones I don't visit anymore. My dentist, OBGYN and my kids pediatrician are awesome and much the opposite. However, with all being said, if need be, I will continue to use dr. Lain and would recommend him. I do feel I got a good exam, just rushed. I like feeling like at that specific time, that I am the only patient, not like I'm just another number. I could definitely tell he was busy and he didn't have time to chit chat. read more

I have been pleased with Dr Lain until this week. I asked the local Walgreens to refill my long term prescription from Dr Lain. They told me that Dr Lain declined to renew my prescription that I have been taking for the last 2-1/2 months with no problems (confirmed by blood panel test). The office personnel informed me that another blood test needed to be run. I said today that I could have the blood test performed on Monday (3 days from now) but that I was out of pills and just needed a couple of pills to get me through the weekend until I could get the new blood panel test. They declined to allow me two more pills which means I will have a medication coverage gap this weekend. They said they were sorry but had no flexibility. I will not return to Steiner Ranch dermatology again and will not recommend Steiner Ranch Dermatology to any of my friends. read more

Dr. Lain is very honest. He actually told me that I did not need the IPL that I purchased. Both he and the practitioner basically tried to talk me out of it. I drove all that way, so I got it done anyways. They modified it, so that I would get more of the results I was looking for. I was very impressed at how honest they were. read more

Since I popped my first pimple at 15, I've been a lifelong devote of good Dermatology. Since landing in Austin 4 years ago, I've tried a few folks but no one worth keeping on my contact list. Finally looked near my own backyard when I went to Dr Ted of Steiner Dermatology. I had to have a rather egregious looking ingrown hair/mole thing removed - yuck. This required local anesthesia, cutting and stitching. I was in and out in 30 minutes, Easy and comfortable. Steiner Dermatology also offers less invasive, cosmetic friendly services, like removing those annoying summer moles that keep popping up on my cheeks from the year round sun here. Will be looking to schedule some follow-ups... The friendly, efficient staff + skilled, caring Dr. = noteworthy experience. read more

I had a laser peel last summer and I could not be HAPPIER! The skill, care and follow-up have been really professional and caring! I've even changed doctors (from my old derm). The old doc was fine, but Dr. Lain is EXCEPTIONAL! His staff is friendly and caring too. I have a number of girlfriends who go here also and they're all very happy! My wife took my son to Dr. Lain a few months ago. Honestly, I really didn't think much about it until the warts on my hands got bigger, and Bigger, and BIGGER. So I ask my wife to set me an appointment at Steiner Dermatology. I showed up and was quickly ushered to the back. Dr. Lain popped in, very friendly and easy to be around, asked about my issues. I told him about the warts. He went a step further and inspected my upper body because I have lots of moles....what is my deal?!!! Anyway, he removed a couple of moles and froze four warts. When I first called the office at Sanova dermatology I asked before making an appointment if Dr Lain had any experience in getting rid of bugs or biting mites in my scalp and was told by Alice on the phone that he is definitely capable of treating anything. During my first appointment on March 26, 2021, Dr Lain entered the exam room, he seemed to be in a hurry and asked about the purpose of my visit and after I told him that I believe I have mites in my hair, he at once left the room and came right back (after probably googling what to do about it) to tell me that he can prescribe Permethrin cream, I advised him that I already used 3 applications of the cream and it did not help so he went ahead and prescribed Ivermectin tablets without him neither looking at my scalp nor performing a biopsy for testing and said that Ivermectin will kill all the mites in my body and hair and I should come back to see him in 3 weeks. After finishing taking the tablets within a week or so, I called Sanova Dermatology and let one of his assistants Emelie know that the tablets did not do anything to relieve me from the pain, the biting and the itching then I asked if I could see Dr Lain earlier than my next appointment in 2 weeks but she advised that he was fully booked and if there will be an opening the office will let me know and of course that never happened until after a week I noticed an opening online for Dr Lain and went ahead and booked it. At the appointment Dr Lain said to me that if the tablets he prescribed did not work, that means that I do not have mites(I find him very naive for thinking that they were magic tablets so he can go on with his botox) but then again did not attempt to perform any skin for testing in order to determine the type of bugs in my hair or on my skin to get a suitable treatment to heal me instead he advised me that he couldn't do anything anymore except prescribing a steroid cream to apply on my itchy skin then I asked him if I could have a prescription for the Permethrin cream which he had suggested during my first appointment just to give it another shot and to cover all my bases, he agreed to it then surprisingly said I really want to help you but if these two creams don't work for you I want to refer you to a psychiatrist (his way of making me feel like I have a mental disorder, highly insensitive, shame on him). I thought to myself if he really cared about his patient he would have said let's work on a solution and get to the source of this unbearable situation, I'll perform a biopsy, run some lab tests to find out the type of bugs in your hair and on your skin so we can get you the right medication and treatment as well as some relief so you can enjoy some uninterrupted sleep and look forward to a peaceful normal life (wishful thinking, right?). I find Dr Lain uncaring, lacking compassion and the willingness to try to do the necessary steps to find the source instead of choosing an easy way out and not to be bothered. I should have never listened to Alice when she said on the phone that Dr Lain can treat anything which is incorrect, her goal was just to convince me to make an appointment. I can assure you that I will never go back or think of getting any sort of treatment from Dr Lain because my experience with him has been nothing by disappointing, stressful as well as a big waste of time and money. I am now dealing with scabies and enduring the most horrible unbearable rash and itching constantly which makes me miserable. read more

I recently moved to Austin from Northern California, and wanted a great dermatologist who truly understands and skillfully uses the latest medical information and technologies, in particular, Botox and Juvederm. I've visited Dr. Lain two times, once for Botox and the second for Juvederm. On both visits, he provided excellent medical advice, and skilful and artistic applications of both products. During my first visit, I mentioned my life-long battle with migraines. He suggested using Botox to treat my headaches, so I agreed to give it a try. Shortly thereafter, I experienced a migraine that should have landed me in the emergency room, but did not as I was able to successfully treat it at home with prescribed migraine medications from my primary care physician. I honestly believe that the Botox application that Dr. Lain delivered to me made all the difference in my particular case. Dr. Lain's office staff and assistants are very kind, welcoming and efficient. They always greet you with a smile, and treat you as if you are their most important patient. read more

I don't usually do this sort of thing, but I feel the need to rant. The dermatology office of Dr. Ted Lain in Steiner Ranch would not even take my new insurance policy information because I am self-employed and I obtained my coverage via the Health Insurance Marketplace! It is a Blue Choice PPO policy via BCBS of Texas. I am paying FULL MARKET rates and have a $6,000 deductible as I did not qualify for ANY subsidies. The receptionist said it didn't matter... I would have to be a cash patient. This is OUTRAGEOUS! My other physicians have gladly taken my policy information and filed my claims just like when I was covered under a corporate plan by Dell & AT&T. Doctors like Ted Lain are part of the problem - not the solution! read more

I love my esthetician Kayla at Steiner Ranch Dermatology. I was really struggling with sun spots and my skin just felt dull. Kayla recommended photofacials and exilis and it made a huge difference! My skin is so much brighter and my facial lines have deceased significantly. I've moved out of the Steiner area but will still travel to this office for any work in the future:). read more

Despite being on time and having to wait for as long as 20 minutes past my appointment times with my other 2 kids and appointments for myself. Today when I was 8 minutes late for an appointment with my other son, a new patient, they told me that they would need to reschedule.. He has a small wort on his heal, not a complex issue and should only take about 15 minutes to treat while I finished filling out his paper work. Oh, and there was only one person sitting in the waiting room, I believe waiting for someone. Anyway, I can't stand doctors who run late and make patients wait, then when a patient is late they reschedule you and treat you as if you just pissed in their Cheerios... Suck it up Doc. and work just a little quicker between patients or at least give us the option to wait for a window of opportunity to be seen today... Plenty of other dermatologists in this area not to have to put up with such horrible customer service. read more

There are plenty of other good dermatologist in this area. I don't recommend. My husband went in to have a spot looked at on his face. Dr Lain said it looked fine, and would probably go away on its own, but he could quickly and easily freeze it off. He did not disclose the charge and for a 10 second procedure, my husband perceived it to be a minimal charge, if any charge at all. He charged $230 for an unnecessary procedure! When we called to have it reduced or taken off, they said "sorry, services were rendered, you owe us". I think its unethical to charge someone this much for a small, unnecessary procedure and not disclosing and approving the cost prior to the procedure. Needless to say..we won't be going back. They also over charge for Botox and my brows were uneven! read more

I had an appointment with Dr. Lain about my adult onset acne. He was great. Very knowledgable and thorough. I highly recommend. I got my first IPL here and it was great. My skin was immediately improved. If you've never gotten one of these (aka photofacial) and you want to brighten your appearance and improve your skin with results in less than a week, I highly recommend. And there's not a more knowledgable skin doctor in Austin! read more

At his Pflugerville office........I waited 40 minutes after my appointment time to get ushered into a room for a general skin scan........ Dr Lain and his assistant came into the room after another 10 minutes for a grand total of 6 minutes......... He eyeballed my skin, told me the lesion on my leg that I was worried about was just a "bugger" and he zapped it with the spray........... Said "See you in a year", walked out, and charged me $300.00 for his time. Shame on him. read more

We went here to have my sons planter wart treated on his foot. They froze it which after the fact I found out from a podiatrist, actually 2, that you are never supposed to freeze a planter wart on the foot or the hand. It caused the wart to jump, so instead of having one small wart he had one HUGE wart 2" in diameter. We then had to go to a podiatrist to have all this cleaned up. I went to their office and spoke with Lisa the office manager. Not one phone call back just to say sorry!! The bedside manner of the PA is at most unpolite. Don't go here!! The doctor here is known as "Dr. Dig". He loves to dig out anything. read more

I decided to address a cosmetic issue that had bothered me for a very long time. A friend suggested that I see Dr. Lain. During my appointment, he listened to what I had to say and made sure he understood what I wanted to change. He recommended a product and told me why he chose that one product over the rest. We decided on a subtle change and I am so glad I went in to see him. I am blown away and could not be happier with the end result. If you need routine skin checks or cosmetics procedures, I would have no problem with this office. I had a biopsy for a spot on top of my head which was done by Jennifer. It was a basil cell carcinoma. She suggested I make an appointment with Dr. Lain with no explanation as to what to expect. I did not receive any pre op instruction or antibiotics. My chart showed that I have Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and take a chemo drug every day. I was taken aback when I was ushered into a room at this appointment and Dr. Lain commenced to cut open my head. When he completed the surgery, his assistant wrote a few instructions on a piece of paper. No typed post op instructions. antibiotic, cream, gauze - zero! I returned to have sutures removed and for the next few weeks I had intense itching and a rash. I waited ten days to have an appointment with Dr. Lain to discuss this whole situation and to have him check my head. On arrival at his office, Mia saw me. He obviously felt it was not necessary for him to see me. Dr. Lain does not perform the latest procedures to deal with skin cancer - Mohl's surgery. This doctor is charming, on TV, but lacks the latest dermatology procedures, professionalism and compassion when dealing with cancer patients. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Lain for over 4 years for both medical and cosmetic appointments. I can't tell you how much I appreciate his calm, warm, caring manner. He projects both warmth and professionalism. He was especially patient with my son who was terrified about having some planters warts removed on his foot. Even though they had already closed, he took the time to work through my sons fears so we could get it taken care of. I see him cosmetically for (ok I admit it!!) Botox. My first Botox experience several years ago was a med spa type place. They didn't do a good job on both placement of the injections and amount. In addition, they tried to sell me a bunch of additional services. I will only go to an M.D. now. Dr. Lain does a great job of not going overboard for that frozen look. I never feel pressured to buy more services or products. His staff reflects his professionalism and kindness, Denise is awesome!!! I highly recommend them. read more

Dr Lain didnt seem to spend much time with me, he did dump a bunch of samples on me, but that isnt useful without quality care.. I was a first time patient there, i just wanted to try someone new, my regular dermatologist was out of town, and I had a psoriasis outbreak on my eye for the first time.. ugh ) : Anyway, he didnt spend much time with me, and didnt seem too concerned about the psoriasis being around my eye, even though I told him I was taking cortisteroids (he gave me samples of a vitamin E based cream for combination therapy). It was getting irritated, so I did some research on my own.. and found that the skin around the eye can be very sensitive, and that if youre not careful, you can get cataracts and other eye diseases. So, I felt like a dermatologist should have known this, and I hope I didnt cause lasting damage somehow.. I went there because I had an outbreak on my eye, and I dont feel like I got the adequate attention and care for that. read more
