First, the pros: I recently visited this office for a facial--I was scheduled for sixty minutes, it took about thirty five, and I was only charged for a half hour, which I appreciated. My facialist was friendly, and on time. I had a quick consultation remotely before my in-office appointment, and was excited based on that experience. The office was clean and everyone I encountered was professional. Cons: I booked based on the reviews, and this experience was not what I expected. To level set, I haven't had a facial in several years, and never from a med spa. I wasn't queried for what products I use, or what my existing routine is, and had to ask if any of them would cause interactions with the services being performed. I had my first microdermabrasion and dermaplaning sessions, and was told that I might have a tiny cut or two that would heal within a day--I ended up with several cuts along my throat and jawline that are still healing three days later. My skin is starting to break out (this is not normal for me) which sounds like it may be because my skin wasn't cleansed or prepped in any way before either treatment. After dermaplane and microdermabrasion, there was a quick cleanse, clay mask, moisturizer and sunscreen and I was out the door. She said there wasn't much more to do for my skin, which may have been true. I was recommended follow up treatments and their product line, both of which I declined. It looks like this place has many good reviews, and if I'd asked more questions in my consultation I might have had a better experience, but I thought this might help set expectations for others looking for this type of service. read more

I have known and trusted NurseKaren for over 20 years. I knew I was going to go to her when it was time to prep my skin for our big wedding day! She curated a perfect routine and plan for flawless skin. I bought all of her clean, good products below and used them day and night. (See attached photos below) Every month, for six months before the wedding, we did a light peel which helped get rid of dead skin and fine lines. We were able to do two microneedling sessions together which really helped firm and tighten my face and neck. My makeup session with Tati Westbrook for the rehearsal dinner went on so smoothly and I felt like a goddess. They make a great team! Definitely do dermaplaning a week before like Karen suggests because all of your makeup and products go on better! I felt so beautiful and timeless as I walked down the aisle. Finally, I have found my go-to best facialist in Austin! I have been searching and searching so def wanted to spread the good word about Nurse Karen for those who are also having issues with their skin! So, I am very picky when it comes to facials. I've gotten them in a million different cities with a million different estheticians. If someone is just going to massage my face with lotion and talk sweetly to me while playing relaxing tunes in the background, girl let's do that on a weekend together. If I am getting a facial, I want someone to sure, talk sweetly to me and play relaxing tunes but then get in there. Ya know what I mean? Look at every single pore and get in there, honey! Show my pores who's boss! And perhaps take a look and let me know about some other things you see going down. You too? Well then you will love sweet Nurse Karen! She is absolutely the best esthetician I have experienced in Austin and other cities too. First off, you just want to be her bestie as soon as she opens the door. She's very cool, super nice and puts you at ease right away. No judgement whatever is happening with your skin. I went to see her when I had a terrible case of mask-ne (like, it was high school face all over again) and she helped my skin sooooo much. She did an amazing job cleaning every single pore and gave me a great microdermabrasion facial too. I left with squeaky clean, smooth skin. And it was fun just laying there and chatting while she did her work. I feel like my face needed an intervention and her work did the trick. My face pretty quickly returned to normal/wasn't breaking out ala freshman year. I also loved the environment. Her place is located on the second floor of a cute home in West Austin/downtown. A beauty salon is on the first floor. There is parking next door and plenty of street parking if for some reason the lot is full. (But it usually isn't.) I first came to Nurse Karen with terrible sun damage from being a dummy about the sun, adult acne and a deep line in my forehead (glabella aka elevens). But after several laser facials, awesome product advice, and the best Botox administration I could ever hope for, my skin is looking the best it has in many years. I get facials every two months and Botox every four months. Booking this is so easy on Nurse Karen's site. And going to see Nurse Karen is a breeze. Nurse Karen is a godsend! I went to her to get some microneedling done and I loved it! She was extremely personable, she listened to my concerns, researched the products I was currently using and offered cleaner alternatives that wouldn't be as harsh for my acne prone skin. She gave me samples from her own skincare line to sample and after a few weeks of trying them- I WAS HOOKED. Her tea tree cleanser and exfoliating toner in particular are my favs! After only seeing Miss Karen once for a facial, I can easily say that I will likely follow this woman until the ends of the earth for my skin. She is a life changer.
