I love this place! I haven't always been able to find Matar paneer at other Indian restaurants so I really like going here to get their Matar paneer dish. They sadly don't have lunch buffet anymore, but I hope that someday it can start again. We came as a large group (~10) with no reservation and the host was able to seat us so that was really nice (though they recommend calling before to make a reservation for large groups). Also the host was so nice and offered us complimentary desert at the end! The inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated with Indian fixtures and has a warm feel to it. Staff lacks manners. I am all for hole in the wall place or supporting small businesses if the food/service is good but this place lacks in all aspects. I called to order for pickup and I was surprised by the tone of the person on the other end. It seemed like they don't need my business or aren't grateful for the order. When I asked if they could use less oil a very snobby person on the phone said you don't have to tell us that. We ordered a masala chai for my mom and it was completely watered down. I went here today for the first time at Center Ithaca and the man that served my partner and I was extremely friendly! We had a great conversation and he was very polite. The food was only $13 for a combination of curry, rice, and fresh naan! They also gave us two canned soda's on the house. This is fine for the lunch buffet but not great for dinner. I've definitely had worse Indian food, but I've had much, much better. Nan and rice were fine. Meat samosas were on the bland side. Raita was too watery. Lamb korma could be a little creamier. The biggest disappointment was the Goa fish curry. If I'm not mistaken, this is supposed to be the spiciest curry and I ordered it extra spicy. It wasn't particularly spicy at all. We ordered carryout from Sangam this evening. We were excited that a new South Indian restaurant opened up nearby and we were not disappointed. We ordered kangonadu goat curry, chicken saag, and vegetarian appam kuruma, plus chili garlic naan and malabar paratha. The chicken saag was among the best I've tasted. The goat curry was very tender and delicious. The bread that came with the appam kuruma was unlike I've had at any Indian restaurant but maybe similar to the injira bread you get from Ethiopian restaurants, light and fluffy and full of texture. The malabar paratha bread we got was so light and flaky I've never had paratha quite like this before. I give 4 stars not because of any disappointment but only because I give 5 stars for only fine dining experiences. I was hoping this new restaurant would be good and everything was at least as tasty as I hoped. Give this place a go. I'll definitely be back. read more

Not friendly to disabled persons with service animals. Decided to try this place for a lunch date at just about noon. The staff immediately rushed us and said no dogs allowed not even bothering to notice the service vest my 10 pound puppy in training wearing. I explained she was a service dog in training and was very well mannered and quiet. He said the dog was gonna bit him repeatedly. I assured him she is not a danger she is a working service dog in training. He continually said the dog was gonna bite him and to keep it on the inside of rhe table and then refused to let us sit anywhere besides dhe furthest seating (we were the only customers!!!) He came back several more times and said the dog would bite him and not to let it bite him many many times... we decided to just leave after feeling so harassed and him actually scaring my service dog. Visited Sangam on the Commons today as I've done for at least 10 years. I waited patiently in line behind a woman who had brought containers from home to be filled to take, to go. I never knew this was a policy but it didn't bother me in the slightest. What did bother me is when it was my turn, I requested a small size container of rice and vegetable curry. The same size container they use for a samosa or pakora... so about 1/3 of the normal size. The man charged me almost $10. I thought about going back and asking for a second to go seeing as how I was being charged the full price anyway, but he barely spoke English and didn't feel like wasting time arguing. I always have supported this location and tip generously. Lesson learned, next time... bring my own container read more

**4 stars for food** **2.5 stars for service** I never really liked Indian cuisine before I went to Sangam. And it wasn't really love at first. The decor is okay, the environment is relaxing. The dark ambience works well for dinners, but makes the place seem slightly sketchy during lunch service. The lunch buffet, which is what most people know them for, is okay if you know what you like, but lacks focus and can fill you up quickly with things you wished you hadn't tried. The service is very inconsistent and generally worsens during peak hours. Once I called in a takeout and arrived half an hour later to find that they never put my order in the kitchen! !?! They didn't apologize for the mix-up and pretended nothing was wrong. But service aside, you can find some real gems among the dishes. I first fell in love with Sangam after a friend introduced me to their lamb korma. It was so amazing I thought about it for a week afterward, my mouth watering with lust. Another time, I tried a friend's shrimp saag and again, my mouth mourned for days afterward, missing the warm comfort of gooey spinach mingled with fresh shrimp. Their fluffy and fragrant basmati rice makes a great compliment to any dish. The meat samosas are better than the vegetable counterparts and make tasty appetizers if you're ever pressed for time hosting a dinner party. Sangam is a great place to eat if you're with friends and have a good idea of what you really like. Don't count on the service and be prepared to wait awhile if they're busy. I ordered some of the most basic dishes/appetizers possible, and was really disappointed. How do you screw up samosas, aloo chaat, and kababs? I knew it was going to be an ill-fated evening when the host/maître d actually looked annoyed when I walked in around 830 p.m. He never smiled and seemed to dislike my presence. Too much work? I sat down and just ordered a few basic things including a meat appetizer platter, vegetable samosas, and aloo chaat. My plan was to give it a try, and if they passed, come back. Needless to say, I won't be going back. How do you screw up kabobs? Maybe by microwaving meat? I was obvious to me the meat wasn't fresh, and the rubbery, tough texture was a dead giveaway. I admit that the meat samosa was actually good and keema was salty, but tasty, but how do you screw up basic sauces at an Indian restaurant? Dilute them water, as was evident when I sampled the chili/mint sauce, and sweet tamarind sauce. I was almost surprised to see a chicken pakora, and it too tasted reheated. The samosa is really hard to screw up, but this too wasn't very good. The saving grace may have been the pappad, but what kind of meal is that? All in all, a disappointing experience. read more

That being said, the food was ready within 30 minutes of placing the order, everything was accurate and the food was neatly packed.
