I went here twice in a week because of the lure of poutine...which is why I'm not gonna be able to keep this weight off for long...anyway. Round one: interesting counter service, ok attitude, pretty good poutine. Fries were nice and crisp, gravy was warm...curds did not melt. Eh...off day? Round two: again with the quiet service, fries crisp, curds still not melty...and what is this strange crunchy thing in my poutine??? Not a french fry. Felt like an egg shell, or a small bone. Not sure...but until I can forget about it, I probably won't return.

$11.50 for 3 tiny pieces of chicken and a massive qty of french fries.

Expensive and small portions. My fried chicken was over $11 for 3 tiny pieces that they added a mountain of French fries to make it look big. As if I wasn't disappointed enough upon opening the box when I got home, the chicken was literally rotten. Couldn't eat any of it.

The pizza is greasy but not horrible, if you get fries order them e-tra crispy and the`'ll be good otherwise they will be soggy.

The meat definitely justified the wait, as it was easily the best pastrami I've ever had. It's not just a dining experience; it's a life-changing moment when you visit. The service there was great, and it had that classic old-school deli atmosphere. I hadn't had a pastrami sandwich in a while, and while this one was very good, I wouldn't personally call it great. I found the meat a little dry, but adding coleslaw and a pickle definitely helped. I also tried their classic black cherry soda, which was excellent. If I'm comparing it to places like Langer's or Katz's, I'd probably rank Schwartz below both of them. I think Katz has better pastrami with more fat and a juicier texture overall, and Langer's #19 is still my favorite deli sandwich because you're getting more ingredients and flavors than just pastrami and mustard. Overall though, Schwartz is definitely worth checking out. You probably won't be blown away, but it's still a really solid experience with a lot of character.

If I'm going to be anywhere near the Eastern Townships, I detour to La Rumeur. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. You get the sense that you are in a family store (even if it probably isn't) where everyone takes pride in what they sell. If you are near either one of their two locations, don't miss the opportunity to grab a cookie!

They have a lot of cheese from Quebec, France and the Netherlands. In fact they have a lot from all over Europe as well. You can ask for a sample before you buy the cheese. With the cost of some of these cheeses, that only makes sense. We picked up some Quebec cheese this trip but on past trips we bought Dutch cheese. The bakery side has good food as well. We have tried their breads and croissants and would definitely buy them again. There is a case full of pies, tartes, and cakes for sale and we are tempted to bring one home. They always have someone working who is fluent in English if your French is not good.
