We stopped in for a sandwich coming down from Canada and we were pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this gem. We ordered a large Italian with everything on it. All of the veggies were fresh as well as the meats from the deli. The sub roll was jam packed with salami, ham, roast beef, and provolone cheese. The mother clucker had sliced oven roasted turkey with a healthy potion of hot bacon and cranberry Mayo. Delicious! There was also a bakery inside and several coolers with a variety of beverages including beer. I'm going to Preface this review with the fact I'm from New York, and regularly get large subs for lunch and slam the whole thing. That being said, this place has behemoths of a sandwich, I mean the size of my thigh in length and my forearm in width. I finished half of it and was full, very substantial portions for a good price, which is a huge plus for me. One of the better Italians I've had in Vermont as well. It might be a Vermont thing to serve a ton of meat on a grinder as this was the case at another deli. The meat and vegetables were fresh but the bread was not good! It had a weird cardboard texture, that fell apart as I ate it. With all of the meat it really needed more cranberry mayo too. Service was friendly and fast and it was a very clean market. There are a few small tables spot to sit even though most of the business seems to be to go. The staff was friendly and it was clean. There are also many fresh baked goods. But the best sub shops in the revitalized Rail City don't have places to sit, nor do they have baked goodies like Mother Hubbard's The subs are massive. Huge. Giant. And not overly pricey. Let me first say it was one of the best danishes I have had, but it was overshadowed by the extremely poor customer service. When I first got my danish I went and grabbed a soda from the cooler and waited at the check out for the cashier to come back inside. Really it was no bug deal to wait. I paid for both items and went and sat down in the area to eat. My spouse and daughter were there also. They each paid for their own items. As they became ready. When we left the cashier yelled across the room that I didn't pay for my drink. I explained that I did pay, remember I was waiting for you to write something in your book when you came back inside. Her following comments made me feel like she didn't believe me and it became a standstill. I kept defending myself that I had paid and she was extremely rude. Never acknowledged the interaction earlier, so I then left with my family. . I pulled away and it really bothered me. I then remembered that I paid with my debit card. I turned back around to show her my bank account for the pending charge. When I showed it to her she had an attitude and said there are a Lot of people that come and go. I told her that when she questioned my integrity I felt like I needed to prove I paid for it because I was never given a receipt. She continued to make inappropriate comments instead of just saying sorry, my mistake. The cashiers lack of customer service skills and her ability to make me feel Like a online criminal will ensure that I never visit that establishment again. read more

What a great find! My hubby and I each ordered a chicken salad sandwich on homemade bread. The chunks of fresh chicken breast were huge and the sandwiches were piled high. Between the chicken and fresh veggies, we had to take 1/2 of our sandwiches home, and we were very hungry when we arrived. The place is right off of Rt 89 on a side street that could get easily passed. They also have incredible baked goods. We couldn't decide on just one thing so we grabbed a little of everything. I've only stopped in here for lunch a couple of times and have enjoyed the fresh breads they use. The sandwiches are overall OK for a small deli. Maple ham is fantastic. Soups are also nothing amazing but taste fresh, no soggy noodles. Service is decent but tends to the "silent and efficient" mode when busy. It's a sizeable interior with room to sit and eat even though the rest of the place is mainly a convenience store. My wife got a bit ill from lunch the last time so I think we have avoided ever since but it is worth a stop in and try. Ample parking as well. read more
