Ok, so I went to pay and only had a 50.00 bill before I got it out of my wallet she snapped and said I can't break that. Its pretty sad when a store of that magnitude can't break a 50. She has red hair with curled bangs and very pale skin. I'd guess she was 60 -65 years old. What a horrible cashier and should fired.

There are tons of pumping stations available and the place is just so nice and new and fresh and clean. There's also a car wash and a- wait for it- DOG wash- next door. Yes, you can literally bring your dog here and wash your dog in a self-contained little booth, just like you would your car. I normally don't have such strong feelings about gas stations, but I really liked this place A LOT.

The gas prices here are reasonable, but be prepared to enter the store if you plan to use a debit card because the pumps refuse to take them. The staff here was great but the clientele is a bit rough around the edges. That being said, I felt comfortable stopping here and it reminded me of fueling up in one of the suburbs of Boston. Overall, not a terrible station but be prepared to be solicited by someone looking for change or money for cigarettes.

I also believe it's the ONLY Sunoco in town if any of you care or are pulled into the swindle that is the Price Chopper AdVANTage card as I am. Gas pumps are self serve and generally work pretty well for a quick fill up and get out. The market, well let's say there's a bit of a benefit in this also being a licensed Vermont State Liquour store. But don't go in expecting shelves upon shelves of discounted spirits lining the walls. Colonial, again, is very local feel without much effort to look "enticing". It's got a very low light ambiance to the place that seems to creep me out some when shopping in here. So I generally know what I want and just get out. Probably the brightest display in the store is the gigantic Vermont Lottery scratch off vending machine that looks bright and sparkly but likely just eats people's hard earned money every day to just eject some pieces of paper that end up as discarded scratched off trash within about 5 minutes...yeah not so bright and shiny when you think about it. They have most of the staples in a licensed Liquor store: vodka, whiskey, rum and other aged liquids. You likely won't find that rare bottle of 100 year old scotch...well maybe if it comes in the tiny airplane size. Have fun looking among the 4 shelves. Food choices are what you'd mostly expect of a convenience store: packaged doughnuts, plastic wrapped danishes with infinitely long expiration dates, Funyons...the usual. Prices aren't too bad, sometimes you can get close to a 2 for 1 deal on wine prices for things that taste like they come out of a cardboard box. I do have to say though, counter service is generally great here. Always quick and efficient and there's one kid who works here who always has a great positive demeanor among the low depressing lights in this store. That's good to see someone who can actually appear to enjoy working in a cave. But honestly, Colonial does what it's really supposed to do, be convenient. It doesn't do it with glitter and sparkles, it does it more with "we're here, off the main Fairfax Road, be happy about that and get back on the road" flair.

This is a fairly large Mobil stop. It's got 4 islands of pumps, backed by a large Maplefields store…read morethat includes a Subway. In addition, it has its own automatic and self-serve car wash garage. I haven't tried the store or the car wash but I can speak for the gas stop and the Subway. The gas is usually mid-priced for the region (which tends to be a few cents higher than average Vermont). The pumps are very slow. They use the push button (not touch sense) keypad self serve system which, in my experience, tends to be slower but these are, by far, the slowest in terms of user interface. Example: Debit Card (yes/no)? Yes (20 seconds pass) Type PIN Number then Enter (enter pin)..20 more seconds or so go by....you get the idea. The Subway isn't bad. It's clean and they offer just about anything you get from any other Subway. The service is a bit on the slow side but not terrible. I was a bit underwhelmed by the last sandwich I got there but then again I haven't tried a Subway sandwich in a while so I guess I'm not sure what I was expecting. The store is clean and large enough to not feel crowded in. There are places to sit and enjoy your lunch/breakfast/whatever. There is also a traffic light there to assist getting back out onto Swanton Road.

I must do a sidetone here: I don't like filtered coffee much as I drink espresso and espresso based coffee (Cappuccino, latte) when possible. However, when you travel with a large vehicle at 5 am, sometimes places with filtered coffee are the only option. One thing they have here, and quite popular in Vermont, is a selection of filtered coffee from "Green Mountain Coffee". To offer it, the have isolated coffee pots to keep the various kind hot, One thing that I worry in those cases is how long ago was this coffee made? Well, I noticed that these pots have little displays with indicators that lets you know how long ago the coffee was made! The place is not really a track stop but some trucks come here and there are diesel pumps for it,

This Maplefields gas station and convenience store is a regular stop while coming off the 89 for…read moregas when we are heading to to the US or heading back to Canada. It's close proximity to the border (roughly 10 miles) and their clean washrooms plus snack selection make it a good stop for us and help serve our needs. Gas was $2.49 a gallon on my stop for 87 octane which is a steal compared to the $1.20 we pay roughly a L in Quebec. They do also have free WIFI that there is no password to login to. On the way back home I was very pleased to pick up two 12 packs of Harpoon beer for $15.99 each. Harpoon is an awesome beer that Is Vermont/Boston brewed. They call it a New England IPA. If you like Sam Adams give Harpoon a try. Sure there is a closer gas station to the border but we enjoy hitting up this one in St Albans and will keep on doing so in our travels in the future!
