Environment and ambiance was clean and very Vermonty... service was swift and everyone was really nice and pleasant. The food was not great. Got the eggs Benedict and the hollandaise sauce was so buttery that it immediately upset my stomach and lacked any other flavor-- all you could taste was butter. I unfortunately wasn't even able to eat my entire meal because it was just too rich/intense. Fiancé got the biscuits and gravy and it was a hearty portion but had to pay extra for eggs... he said he'd give his meal a 5/10. Both our breakfasts were served with home fries and those were also really gross. It also felt kind of expensive for diner food... we each got the entrees mentioned above, one coffee and waters and with tip included it was $50. If it were for the environment and the service, we'd go back-- but for the food and the price...likely not. read more

This skillet is one of the best skillet meals I have tasted. I'm going to have to try to make it at home- it's so delicious. Pesto is sometimes a hit or miss for me but there was the perfect amount of sauce on the eggs. It wasn't overpowering and it simply complimented the meal. The tomatoes added an amazing flavour and added juiciness. I would definitely come back here on our next trip to Vermont. read more

So I had the pleasure of being invited to dine at this establishment. I have seen the name come up every now and then on my Google map and even on Yelp, but given that it is not within walking distance from me, I have not tried it out. It was rather pleasant with understated decor and simple traditional diner aesthetic. It seemed clean for the most part and it looked the staff was pretty diligent about making sure the place was tidy and organized. We had to wait a bit to be seated which was fine. Our server Alexis was very on top of making sure that we had our food selections placed and that our order was delivered on time. I don't really have anything bad to say except it was little bit warm in there and some cool fresh air or AC would have been nice, even though outside it was like thirty degrees Fahrenheit. The food itself was pretty good, though I will say nothing holds a candle to The Original Pancake House. I always give new places a try, but my allegiance will always be somewhat tied back to OPH as their chocolate pancakes are so good. I will say though that they here at Maple City Diner made the scrambled eggs with cheese really well. They were mighty tasty and so were my home fries. They were rather tiny, so it would have been nice if they were a bit bigger in size, but they were cute to look at it and seasoned properly:) read more

We were the only ones in the diner, but it was an odd time (3:30pm). The diner has authentic decor & the atmosphere is appropriate. We were greeted promptly and our waitress was attentive. I ordered a Rueben with fries & my husband ordered a cheese omelette with home fries and toast. My Rueben was great, as were the fries. My plate was overflowing. The omelette was good, but he likes his eggs 'fluffy' and there was no fluff to these eggs. He said it was still good and he ate all of it. The home fries and toast were both cooked well. The outside of this locally run diner is unpretentious but the inside is loaded with vintage charm. It serves up all the classic breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The food we had was good but not spectacular. The chicken salad was made like a Waldorf salad with grapes, celery and nuts. I enjoyed the French onion soup served in a ceramic crock which I had not seen since the 1970's when it was popular. I was surprised to find alcohol in this diner. If you make it past the dessert case, try the breakfast poutine! Big enough for the two of us to split for our morning meal... And the restaurant is still open with normal hours, which was not the case for the few places we tried with Yelp's direction on our way to finding this spot. Gotta shout out this place for the staff. Although we were complete strangers in St. Albans, the 2 servers were warm and friendly with us and made us feel very comfortable in this lovely little diner. One of the servers heard my buddy and I talk about the pies in the front case and "gently" and humorously encourage us to order a slice and even offered to bring it first so we could be sure to enjoy it....which we did. Have eaten there before wasn't bad but last week we went again we will never go back. My wife and I had the hot Turkey sandwich the fries were barel warm and most of them were cold and dried up and ends that had been over cooked and hard, there was barley enough gravy to cover the turkey. The worst part was another family told us they had followed us there from another restaurant that was closed, I sure hope there meal was better than ours. read more

Okay. This place is awesome. I am from Jersey and we are famous for our diners. Maple City doesn't even come close to comparing with Jersey diners. Maple City is a hundred times better! The prices can not be beat and the food is so fresh and flavorful. That's Vermont for you. I had the Vermont skillet that came with runny eggs, apple and caramelized onion. When we stepped into the diner we were greeted immediately, and we were also seated immediately which was very nice. The environment was a Beat it was clean everybody had a positive vibe to them when I was looking around the decor was all Vermont maple sugar maple products Vermont products which I thought was pretty cool. Our server was very nice very knowledgeable she was very professional she immediately got us coffee and hot cocoa and Waters when we ordered the selection of the menu was a good variety different types of dishes and it didn't take too long for us to wait for the food to come out. The food was very delicious and for the price that we paid for we got it a lot. The next time I go there I will certainly be bringing my dad because he will enjoy that experience just as much as I did and my family so if I bring my dad I recommend you bring you and your family as well! This place was great! It's so close to deserving a 5-star review, but just a few things need fixing, but I'll get to that in a minute. First off, the food is excellent! They put a nice spin on classic diner food without straying too far away from the good stuff. I had the bacon waffle with maple butter and WOW! The waffle had 2 thick pieces of bacon cooked into it and the maple butter was incredible! The home fries were pretty dry and bland, but not terrible. Thanks to a suggestion from another Yelp review I ordered a milkshake and it was excellent (albeit a little small). The service was good; our server made great suggestions and was friendly and prompt. Unfortunately it's 4 stars from me. The cupcake I got for dessert was really dry (the frosting was excellent though). My eggs were too runny (ordered over-medium and came out very much over-easy). The biggest gripe I have with the place is the bathroom; the men's room was kind of gross, old, dirty. The baseboard heater was rusty, the walls desperately needed paint, and there was no fancy decor to match the awesome vibe in the dining area. Overall I'd say it's definitely a good spot for breakfast and I'm sure I'll be back! I'd love to see the bathroom get updated though. read more

This place used to be great. But something changed.and not for the better! . When you first come into the restaurant, the dessert display case used to be filled with all kinds of baked goods. But that morning there was one or two pie tins with a couple of pieces of pie that looked like they had been there for a few days. I ordered a simple breakfast and my wife got the something so similar but had gravy and it looked like.it came from a can. In addy we ordered a side of two pancakes (almost $7.00!) We waited almost an hour for it to come out. The restaurant had only two other diners, so that was not the reason. I can only assume it is a new chef? I know a lot of places are struggling, but breakfast with no coffee, should not come to $30.00. Definitely not the same place it used to be. read more

I've visited all the diners in the St Albans area, and of the ones I have visited, I am going to rank Maple City Diner at the top! The prices are what I will call "same as" for the other diners in the area. The menu has all the items I am looking for at a diner, and the items we ordered were great! The wait staff was very nice as well. (I'd argue much more friendly than the diner across the street) :) The ccok the day we ate was Joe, he's an awesome guy and a great cook as well. My husband and I have been going there for years now. Only time we were disappointed was a few years ago when we ordered the prime rib on a Friday night, and it was tough, but the dogs enjoyed it. Staff is friendly, professional, fast, and knows everything about the menu. Food is very, very good. Burgers, fries, breakfast all day, salads, assorted HUGE sandwiches....what more could you ask for? And they have a display case near the register with assorted desserts. YUM! My favorite diner in Northern Vermont! House roasted turkey and corned beef. Great diner soups. The pies are all great. I'm told they only put calories in the salads. Just be prepared to take a walk or ride on the rails-to-trails path adjoining the diner. The service is always super friendly! read more

Visited Maple City Diner on a recent trip to the area. We stumbled into this place for breakfast/lunch one day and everything was so wonderful, we came back a couple days later. We visited amid COVID and the staff followed all regulations (checking in, social distancing & wearing masks). Their coffee is easily the best diner coffee I've ever had. A sign on the wall said it was from Vermont Coffee Company - I'll definitely be buying some beans from them to try and replicate the coffee at Maple City Diner. The first visit I ordered the Green Mountain Skillet and my boyfriend got the Maple Burger. Both were great tastes of Vermont with the skillet featuring apples and the burger having maple syrup. The second visit I got the Hard'Ack Skillet packed with veggies and my boyfriend got the Maple Burger again. On both skillets I got over-easy eggs that were cooked to perfection and the runny yolk was excellent on top of the hash browns. I stole some of my boyfriend's honey mustard from his sweet potato fries to use on my veggie skillet - HIGHLY recommend! I will definitely be stopping in next time I'm in the area! read more

I went to this dinner with my aunt and her friend. The server was great but the food was not worth the money. The home fries were unevenly cooked and some were to crunchy to eat. The sausage links were way over cook like a slim Jim. They were nice enough to take that off the order. They should of took my whole meal off I really regret getting what I did. I pacifically asked for my egg to be fried and not runny and the bring it to me runny. The kind server had it remade but I still didn't like my food.
