I take my 11 year old pup here for self grooming and it's the best! She's a big girl (60lbs) and they have a giant tub that works perfectly. Their products are extremely dog friendly (she's never itchy afterwards), and they smell great! Love the giant leaf blower/hair dryer they have because my dog needs it. We love Sandy Paws! I bring my dog Bruce for a daycare a couple of days per week. The staff is extremely attentive and always lets me know how the day went. He's a bit over active and curious, so is a handful, but he's progressed and settled in really well with the team and other dogs there. I appreciate Jamie's advice and updates as a trainer for what behaviors to look out for and work on with him outside of daycare. The folks at Sandy paws have even gone out of their way to include special items for Bruce in their orders for the store that we can't find elsewhere. If I could give this place more stars, I would! I come here for the self wash dog baths as well as treats, speciality dog cookies, toys and necessities. The owner is so sweet and helpful! I have a dog who is afraid of absolutely everything and that includes baths. Amanda was super patient and helpful in trying to make Stella feel comfortable in the store. She was also wicked patient with me, I think the first time we took Stella there it took about 25 minutes just to get her into the tub. We've been back twice and will absolutely be back again! I wish I could give NO stars!! My beautiful, well-groomed, well maintained, pampered La-chon went in for a groom. Once I got home, I noticed the chop job on her ears and snout. It took management a day or two to get back to me. I was told the "groomer" Fatima said that my dog was knotted and matted. I guess she really had nothing else to say to justify her terrible workmanship. My dog has been getting groomed since she was 4 months old. Every 4-5 weeks, she goes in for upkeep. Her coat is perfect and silk like smooth. Fatima first stated that my dog was wiggling too much. Again, she's been groomed since 4 months old. She's used to it. Once I informed them of that, the next response was that she was so poorly matted and knotted. I asked for a refund at which I was refused. Management is awful; she doesn't really know what good business is. The pictures speak for themselves here. Please Please reconsider going to this establishment. Terrible workmanship: management doesn't care about their client's, nor their reputation either. An employee at Sandy Paw's made us aware of the unprofessional practices of the owner a few weeks after we had boarded our dog there. She took our dog back to her home without our consent, and decided not to let us know about it at all. It turns out that her cat had ringworm at the time, and so after our dog developed red rashes on his stomach and vomited multiple times in a day we had to take him to the vet for testing. With that sort of irresponsibility we cannot even be sure that he was monitored during his stay. The employees seemed like friendly people, but with practices such as what we experienced we will be taking our business elsewhere. read more

However, she is notorious for not playing so nice when it comes to clipping her claws. Ava got along well and handled it like a champ for the very first time thanks to the kind professionals here. Seems as though the past few months have gone downhill, sadly. This is the second time my dog (mini schnauzer) has ended up cut and/or with razor burn. In addition, although they had to cut her GROSSLY short due to her "extensive snarls" (even though I brushed her night before to make sure these were minimal), the cut is choppy at best and her face (also choppy) makes her look like a cross between a rat and Mr. Wigglesworth. This is my third time I brought my dog (bichon frise mix) to this place for the whole work up. Second day after I picked him up I noticed he is walking funny and seems to be scooting a lot. I looked under his tail and saw a raw spot there. It was a razor burn from the clippers. I called immediately and described whats going on and asked for reimbursement. They asked me to come over only for today so they can check it out . When I arrived and showed the painfull and raw spot to the owner she offered me $15 dollars off from the next cut. At first I agreed because I did not want to argue or to be mean, but now I am realizing that this was not a fair offer. My poor dog can't sleep at all. He is waking me up from his constant licking and shaking. He is in pain and feeling uncomfortable. If I take him to the vet I would have to pay around $100.00 just for the visit and some medication. And I probably will have to do that anyway. They seemed like they had no concern about that. I am very disappointed at how the owner handled the whole situation. They are proffessionals and they should not make such mistake. Dogs are living beiings and they can't speak for themselfs. Now I feel like I paid all that money for him to go through unnecessary pain. $15.00 dollars won't make it better. read more

Chewie the Shorkie goes here for haircut/grooming/wash/nail trim - the works! We specifically visit Fatima and leave Chewie under the care of Sandy Paws for about an hour or so. The facilities are clean and well-lit, so I immediately felt safe about leaving him. Sandy Paws also offers a BYOD wash, I think that's super awesome, although I haven't taken advantage of this service yet. Please be specific of what kind of cut you want for your loved dog! I read other reviews where people complained, if you don't specify, it does not help anyone's case. We usually get a puppy cut/trim for Chewie, I find that he looks his best like this. Anything shorter, he looks like a chihuahua LOL. Show the groomer a photo! Call ahead as they're usually booked in advanced. You'll quickly see why. They also sell a variety of treats, dog harnesses, poop bags, the works! After looking around the shop, and possibly grabbing a bite to eat next door, they'll give you a call and let you know that your little fur baby is good to go! We always get Chewie back smelling fantastic, tail wagging, and a cute little seasonal bandana. Our pup is happy, and we are happy. If you want a nice, clean, safe place for your pup to be groomed - this is the place to be. read more

I have an elderly (16 year old) Yorkie who resolutely hates going to the groomer's, but Sandy Paws has kept the excursion as pain-free as possible for the two visits we have had there. They are reasonably priced but do a great job providing a professional, attractive cut with the nice little extras (oatmeal bath, sparkly bow) and my pup has been in and out in under 2 hours, which helps to limit her anxiety about being away for too long. I'm new to the area and was having such a hard time finding a dog groomer for my Coton Maltese mix and boxer mix and I'm so happy I found Sandy Paws! My little one Gracie is newer to the family and the first place I took her did not work well as they kept her far too long and her haircut was choppy. Sandy Paw's was everything I could hope for in a reliable place to bring my dogs! My boxer mix got a a great bath, he came out smelling great, shedding less, and was incredible soft. My Maltese mix Gracie come out with such a great cut! The groomer did an amazing job on her, she looks adorable! I have a toy poodle who has been getting groomed at Sandy Paw for years. This is the only place that we have gone to that my dog walks into with his tail up. We used to have to drag him in to other groomers. Sue is just great with him. She is so sweet, and she consistently gives him a beautiful cut, complete with fluffly little pom pom tail. First off, I love Jaime in daycare! Very knowledgeable & well trained! Kiera groomed my dog I just love her work & I could tell she was very well taken care of! However, the manager of Sandy paws, Amanda, is super unprofessional, no Customer service skills, & extremely rude. Has no clue about dog behavior nor services, I tried to ask her about a simple question & she couldn't even look me in the face & response. Everytime I go in there she's always on her phone complaining about one thing or another. This is why I try to just stick to the employees when I drop off my dog. My almost-2 year old puggle had been going to the same daycare in Somerville since he was 6 mths old. We just recently moved to Winthrop and I was very anxious about sending him some place new when I had such trust and peace of mind when he was at Pet Spa in Somerville. The first couple of play group visits left him nervous and a little quiet. But, by his 2nd full day of day care he was pulling my arm off to get to the door and even sits and waits for Stephanie to come and get him. My one-year old shih tzu, Yuki, is a once-a-week attendee at the doggy day care. I drop him off at 8 a.m. and pick him up at 6:30 p.m. He has his regular four-legged friends that he plays with non-stop, and he's now totally socialized. The care at Sandy Paw is wonderful. I don't have them walk my dog only because he has a habit of slipping out of his collar, but they take the dogs out for nice walks to break up the day - at no extra charge.
