For the care of my dog - satisfactory. For accessibility-quite likely in violation of a slew of regulations, and laws. They refused to continue watching my dog, because i reminded them that their treatment of people who needed to use the accessible entrance without steps, shouldn't mean that everyonee that enters the main door gets cared cared for, and regardless of being there ahead of ALL of those people, and waiting on crutches/walker, did an attendant observe or allow access to me, my friend and a man who attempted access, over a year ago. When suffering from surgery, I asked if I should have someone else watch my dog, and they assured me they had accessibility in hand. They did not. The only reason they still exist, is because I took the high road, and didnt file a complaint with the ADA, Everett Disability commission, and sue them out of business. read more

The staff here is so knowledgeable and are willing to jump if you have any concerns. Our Vizsla Henrick is 10 months old, and having the ability to watch him interact with the other pups is great. He moves around to the different areas, so I doubt he gets bored! Comes home happy and when we arrive to go again he is so excited. These guys are pros, and when I go away this summer they are boarding Henrick in a "suite". Highly recommend and the faculty is amazing. read more

Truly phenomenal staff and facility! These people actually care about the dogs they care for, and their trainers are phenomenal. As a crazy dog mom I researched and toured a lot of doggy daycares and was extremely hesitant to trust anyone with my pup but heard of common dog through a friend and am SO thankful I did. I've been using them for daycare, boarding, and training for 3 years now and have nothing but great things to say. We just got our 5 month old goldendoodle puppy, Buddy, groomed for the first time at the Common Dog. I have nothing but incredible things to say about Sabrina the groomer! She initially asked for an inspiration picture and then was super patient getting Buddy acquainted to all the tools and sensations of grooming. After the grooming appointment, she sent us a comprehensive email about the appointment, including all products used and how he did with each step of the process. She even sent an adorable photo of Buddy's smiling face licking the water in the bath. I can't recommend Sabrina at The Common Dog enough! read more

Pepper, our 3.5 year old labradoodle, has been a daycare attendee at the Common Dog since 2020. A true "pandemic pup," Pepper developed severe separation anxiety and needed to be with a human 24/7. We could not go to the trash room in our building without Pepper barking, scratching, and panting like crazy from being left alone. In May 2023, we elected to enroll Pepper in the Common Dog's board and train program. In addition working on his separation anxiety, Pepper also struggled with basic obedience and reactivity to other dogs. The training promised to address each of these issues, and Common Dog did more than deliver! Pepper has been home with us for one week and we can confidently say the Board and Train was the single best investment we will ever make for him (and for ourselves!). JB and Jill are miracle workers! In addition to incredible strides with obedience and reactivity, Pepper has so much less stress - 4 hours crated alone for him is now a breeze. While the work is just beginning at our house to maintain Pepper's newfound confidence, and obedience skills, the B&T has been a total life changer for our family. I loved this place and its staff with all my heart for a long time. There were a couple minor things happened there and there but I overlooked them. Until I left my dog for boarding for 10 days... This is a lot to read but for anyone looking for a summarized main point: all they care is money--too much "business" and "policy" less empathy and care. They shunned my dog on their own, confined him, neglected him, instead of calling me or the emergency contact so they can charge for the full 10 days of boarding. .... One week before booking, I left him for daycare. The moment I arrived back home, they called me asking me to come get him ASAP because his rabies vaccination expired. I get that but no reminder or a call about it. I had to leave work and drive all the way back. Since they look at the screen everytime they check-in a dog (and color shows yellow if time comes close)--they had approx. 30 days to notice me during drop off or pick up anytime I bring my dog. Impossible no one saw it. I booked 10 day boarding for my dog after that week, a good suite room and paid extra for blankets and toys daily. They have camera but it's hard to figure out which dog is yours, bad quality and located pretty far away with one perspective. I assumed he's in good hands. When I came to pick him up, staff told me that he had a rough stay. He damaged his rooms and the toys (destroying toys is the most normal dog behavior but whatever), he started to play rougher and showed aggression. He even attacked another dog. My dog is a lovebug. He loves cats, babies, and even lived with a parakeet (flying out freely) peacefully... This is critical! because it means he's showing the worst possible symptom of separation anxiety. He needs help. No one called me, emailed me, or called the "emergency contact." Why would they? It's better to keep him confined in room like he's in prison, and charge me 90bucks a night for the rest of his stay. I could have asked a local friend to come and pick him up. I could have booked an early flight to come and get him out of there. But no, because if they do, they can't charge me for the remaining days. They kicked him out permanently because "he's an aggressive dog" instead of caring for his wellbeing when I came to pick him up on top of all of this. He is dirty, stinks of pee (apparently peed himself in the room...), traumatized from being alone for days, still doesn't eat or drink, and very depressed. A husky that sleeps all day... F your greedy business and your "fake" care. F you for shunning my dog for being anxious and scared WITHOUT EVEN LETTING ME KNOW. F you for neglecting my baby while charging me 90 a night. I sent my 10 month old black lab to The Common Dog for a 3 week training program. All I can say is, IMPRESSIVE!!!! While it was extremely hard to be without him at home for 3 weeks, they were constantly in touch with me sharing progress, pictures and videos of his journey and progress. backstory: He "was" a pup that pulled when walking (and yes, pulled me down to the ground a few times), and always jumped on people, in a friendly I want to love you kind of way but he is strong and it was hard to manage. The common dog took my pup in, they not only worked with him, it also with me so that I can keep things consistent at home. The staff cares and loves animals and wants to see pets and their owners as happy and successful with their training journey as possible. You too have a part in your pets journey but boy ohhhh boy did they give me an incredibly impressive start. My friends and family were impressed at the progress too. I can not say enough good things about The Common Dog, their daycare/boarding, and their board and train program! We feel so very lucky that we found them. Their entire staff is so friendly and I really think our pup likes being there more than our own home most days! Sam trained our puppy and has given us the building blocks for the life we want to give him. It was the best investment of our time and money and has given him such great tools to have a happy, full, and safe life! Board and Train Program: When we adopted our Aussie puppy, Archie, we had no idea what we were in for in terms of energy and training. We did the best we could from the start, teaching him tricks and keeping him active. We quickly realized we simply didn't have the tools to train him effectively. A big concern of ours was his recall. We had a couple instances where Archie took off and thought us chasing him in the middle of a parking lot or street was a really fun game. That's when we knew that training had to happen - for his safety and our peace of mind. I did extensive research on a serious trainer after experiencing some puppy classes that were fun but just not quite enough for Archie. I landed on TCD and was really impressed with their reviews and how much BTS they show on social media. I felt like I could really get a feel for how they treated the dogs in their care. I had an initial phone call and discovery meeting with Sam and instantly knew it was the right fit. Sam made sure to ask us what kind of lifestyle we wanted for us and Archie so that the training could be mindful of that. We wanted to work on his recall and obedience, regulating energy at home with commands that would work his brain, and loose leash walking. To make a long story short, I simply can not believe what Sam was able to teach him. We are still in awe of it as we continue to train with him at home, making learning and work a fun moment for all of us. Thanks to Sam we feel like Archie's life is so much more enriched, we have less stress at home, and though he's a puppy that will need to continue to be reinforced, TCD has given us an invaluable foundation that has greatly changed our lives. Daycare & Boarding: My husband and I own a small business that requires us to board Archie just about every weekend as we are gone for quite a few hours at a time. I love leaving Archie for an overnight stay at TCD because I know he'll come back having had an amazing time. The staff there is loving and he gets so excited as soon as he realizes that we've pulled up to their building. I love that he gets the opportunity to play and exercise somewhere fun and safe rather than being stuck at home with no stimulation all day. The next day at home he snoozes happily on the couch from all the play while we get to enjoy a day off. I also love the ability to check in on the cameras when I want and see him running around having the time of his life. The staff their is great and I wouldn't want to leave him anywhere else! I took my toy Cavapoo, Olyve, in to get help with her uncontrollable barking. She was 8 months old at the time. As I met with her trainer, Sam, we really started to dig in and figure out that the source of the barking was due to her separation anxiety and lack of self-confidence. I got really truthful with her about how I couldn't really leave her at home because she would scream the entire time I was gone, no matter how short or long. And the stress that put her under was huge. Let alone my stress for when I knew I had to leave. She had stomach problems, which I suspected were stress related. Crate training was a nightmare and she now slept in my bed so that both of us could finally sleep. We talked about Board and Train, and I agreed it was the best option for the both of us. It's a huge investment, but I knew something had to change for both me and Olyve to find our groove together. This was the best decision I've ever made when it came to Olyve. She did indeed, bark too much. The videos of when she started at TCD are hilarious - even barking at her food, and seeing it in this lens made me really see the stress my sweet girl was under (though I knew it all along). Sam was incredibly patient with Olyve and with me. She got Olyve to a place of total confidence, and built her training around the life I have. They tackled crate training, which was a feat! I like to be out and about and take Olyve with me, so Sam took her for hours of running errands with her getting her used to the carseat, her travel bag, (in preparation for upcoming flights) and just being out in public. I know how much JB and all of the staff contributed to Olyve's training as well. It was an all-hands-in effort. And now, Olyve is a totally different puppy. She's been home for a few months, and she keeps getting better all of the time. She sleeps in her crate without an issue, and now I can leave the house knowing she'll be calm in her crate when I get back. She LOVES daycare at the common dog, which she goes to every week. And I'm even completely comfortable boarding her there now, which is something I couldn't wrap my head around before B&T knowing she wouldn't sleep in a crate. I am so grateful to Sam, JB and the entire training team. I'm even more obsessed (if possible) with my sweet puppy. I know it's a hard decision to make, both financially and just knowing if it's the right thing to do. But if you are struggling and aren't able to find your groove with your pup, it's certainly something to consider. It's changed our lives for sure. read more

EXTREMELY SKETCHY PLACE. I don't know where to begin. The owner and staff seemed generous and friendly when I first met them to do billing and paperwork. Out of the few experiences I left my dog with them, he showed up with piss marks on his white coat areas.. at least clean my dog. I understand this is normal dog behavior but neglect isn't. Every time I came to pick my dog the friendly staff member was never to be found at the front desk. Figured I'd just check myself into the back. Seems the employees never notice I walk in. I see the same grown man yelling at dogs and being very mean towards them. Figured it was some obedience class but he's been doing the same to my dog on the 3rd time I picked him up. The owner after signing paperwork wasn't as friendly as she was during the first day. She can be very rude and not helpful at all. I'm guessing she hires high school drop out family members to abuse the dogs in the back. They also forgot to feed my dog in the 3 times I left him for almost 12 hours. They really do not care about dogs here. It's just another greedy business trying to find an easy buck. Point is, do what I did and leave this place. For those looking for a day care or boarding place for your pup. Look elsewhere. These people neglect the animals they bring in. read more

We took our Golden Retriever to The Common Dog for several months over the summer. She loved it, and had a great time. Then one day when we went to pick her up, the staffer at the desk said that they had "almost called us to come and get her." We said, oh no, what happened. "Do you exercise her before you bring her in?" (Uh - what???) "No we don't." "Well, she is just way too anxious and you are really going to have to step up your leadership skills or something, because something has to be done here." Well, something was done alright. We've never been back. Do daycare centers ask parents to tire their kids out before bringing them to daycare? I don't think so. We were bringing her there to give her some exercise and socializing, for God's sake. She is a very enthusiastic dog - she's a Golden Retriever! At her last daycare (which changed ownwership) they loved her, they were always happy to see her, because she played so hard and the other dogs had such a good time with her! My husband sent an email outlining what had happened and tellng them how unhappy we were. The direcor, or whatever, wrote back saying he was going to be speaking to the person who had been working that day, and that he would be back in touch with us. This was several months ago, and we never heard another word. read more

So this is really a tale of 2 reviews, which takes into account the past 1.5 years. When we first starting taking out pup here, spring of 2012, it was great. The people were friendly, the facility was clean, they have both an inside and outside section which is nice. We used them for daycare and for boarding. Honestly, they were great for us, for quite awhile. Our pup loved going here, we couldn't even turn on the street and she'd be bouncing around the car in excitement, and then pull us on the leash the entire way into the facility. Things were really great, for about 6-8 months. Over time, we started to notice little things that didn't sit well with us. Each of them, on their own, aren't a huge deal, but when you pile them together, it becomes a serious problem. First, we noticed that staffing seemed to have trimmed down a bit. While there was almost always someone at the front desk upon arrival, suddenly, there was never anyone there. That means the phone calls were also going unanswered. I would say only 1 out of 10 calls would I actually have someone pick up the phone. When we'd walk our dog to the back to drop her off, I often saw only a single person, and she'd often be so disengaged, I couldn't get her attention for at least 5 minutes to tell her I was there to drop off. If I couldn't get her attention, how good was she caring for the dogs? Next, the whole facility was covered in dog friendly puppy turf. Great! Good for the dogs. Then one day we come in, and 95% of the turf is gone, and it's just exposed concrete everywhere. Surely I thought, they are just doing maintenance or replacing the aging turf. Week after week, I saw no change, so I finally decided to ask about it. I was told it's just too expensive to upkeep and they had to take it out for good. So now my dog has to run around and play on hard concrete all day? You have to be joking. Dogs fall and tussle all the time. How long until a serious injury? Around the same time, I get an email from the owner, stating that rising costs have made them make a few changes. Staff is going to be "optimized" (I've already seen the reduction) and there will no longer have a staff member onsite 24 hours a day, for the boarders. The latter is a big issue for us. You have a warehouse full of dogs on their own all night, what if one of them gets loose? What if god forbid, a fire or something were to happen? I just am not comfortable leaving my dog overnight at a place where there is zero supervision. That was one of the main reasons I chose them as a boarding facility in the first place. Next, something strange happened. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, when we'd arrive at the facility, my dog refused to get out of the car. She would back up as far as she could, and make it clear she did not want to go. This happened for 2-3 times in a row, and we knew something was up. Our dog's behavior told us all we needed to know. Something happened there, that makes her afraid to even go in. Now I don't know what happened, and honestly I don't want to know, but that was enough for us to find a new place. She told us what to do with her behavior. We haven't been back since. Lastly, just a week ago, I get an email from them saying that they have sold the company, and the long time manager is also leaving. Sounds like people jumping off a sinking ship to me. We had such good experiences with them in the beginning, it's a shame that it had to go downhill so fast. Maybe new management will help turn things around, but I won't be there to find out. read more

Love this place, so do my dogs. What was once a VFW hall, is now a "doggie bed and breakfast." Yeah, yeah - I know. It doesn't matter tho, this place is awesome. After an "interview," a trial afternoon at the place (to make sure that your pooch is a good citizen) and after receiving the vaccination list from your vet, your dog is ready for a weekend the hell away from you. They have the run of the place, literally - there's a huge back yard, a giant gymnasium sized room, couches, crates, and tons of toys. My dogs always come back exhausted and never have a problem (no whining) getting dropped off there. (In fact one of them, Sam, can't wait to get inside) They also have an on-site groomer (which I find is key for picking them up after having been there for a week) and a "doggie day care" where you can drop your dogs off for the day, or - uh - you can wait at one of the locations in downtown boston for their school bus (yeah, its a school bus) to pick them up... ...very cool. read more

My wife & I have boarded our 2 dogs, Tusker & Morgan, at the Common Dog for approx 4 years. We've tried several other boarding options in the greater boston area and the Common Dog is the most cost effective (for 2 dogs), has the kindest people, and has a thoughtful & passionate owner. Cost effective. No other place in the area can you overnight board 2 dogs AND have them engage in open free play under $100 per day. Some are cheaper, but the cost excludes open free play, or the cost assumes the animal is caged, which here they have their own kennel. Kindest people. While both our dogs are rescues, only 1 has adjusted well. Tusker has issues with people, and is very skiddish. He's a 75 lb black lab with fear aggression issues. He has never had a problem or caused a problem, but he is very defensive of Morgan and fears people. He is an abandoned fearful dog who lashes out. At other kennels, he has scared employees and therefore was asked to not return. At the Common Dog, they love him. Some employees there have even mentioned that he is their favorite. He gets special attention and love from the staff and the owner. While loving and caring for dogs is part of the job, Common Dog goes above and beyond to make sure Tusker feels welcomed. Thoughtful & passionate owner. Laura bought Common Dog a few years ago. Since then, the we've seen an improvement in the communication from the staff, improvement in the caring of the dogs, and improvement in the information they maintain of the dogs (e.g. Lost paperwork on vaccinations). Laura had to make some changes to the boarding room configuration, which resulted in a rate increase. Instead of just charging us more, she charged us the lower cost until she was able to meet us in person to explain the changes. I will continue to board my dogs at Common Dog and recommend it to all my friends. read more

We bring our dog Bailey here for daycare 4 times a week or so. We never have to worry about him because we know he's in good hands. He comes home tired and calmer. We're glad he has a space to hang out while we're all working. The staff here are so genuine; you can tell they're dog friendly people. I recently boarded my dog, Lucky, here for the night. We have boarded Zoe here a few times and she has done great--came back home safe and healthy and very very tired. Pros: 1) Boarding dogs spend the day in day care and only are crated overnight (very very important to me) 2) have a large outdoor play area. 3) Staff seems friendly and they do seem to love our dog. Cons: 1) They wouldn't let us tour the whole facility--for sanitary reasons, sure, but I still would have liked to have seen it 2) They are located obnoxiously out of the way, and it's not an easy drive to get here either (that rte. 99 bridge to everett just stinks) 3) They do not have good hours for pickups...they would not allow us to pick up our dog on holidays, and close at 4pm on Sundays--I don't see why they wouldn't rather have the dogs go home than spend another night, if they'd at least let the owners come until 7! edit: after learning that the touring the facility is pretty standard and that they did show us where our dog would be, I'll bump it up to 4 stars. I was probably angry about the pickup times when I wrote the review, as I've had to board my dog elsewhere since (at a place not as good) because I wanted to pick her up when we got home and not the next day... read more

I was SO nervous about leaving my 6lb chihuahua with a kennel. She is an only dog and has never been left with anyone that wasn't family. Like most small dogs, she's a little anxious in social situations. She's so small I can understand why she's intimidated. But Panama was given a ton of love and attention at The Common Dog. I loved their web cam app and they were patient when I called to check up on her. They always knew what dog I was talking about and could tell me in detail what her day and behavior had been like. We returned home to a happy, healthy (but exhausted!) pet. They even emailed me her "report card" a day later. It was unexpected and cute and let me know how she held up throughout the week. It was clear to me that they're dog people who enjoyed having her stay with them. read more

OK. Time to update my review for now and then update it again when they finish the new facilities that I'm really excited for! My dog Boots has been going there for daycare several times a week for a few months in a row now and he's boarded there multiple times too. It's convenient and the staff is stellar. Boots is ready for a nap when we get home. Sometime I wonder if he wishes he could live there. lol. One downside though is that he's so tired out from playing all day he's rather cranky when we get home and I have to ask my roommates to please ignore him while I put him in my room for a nap. I have a busy bustling household with lots of people walking around and little guy doesn't handle that well when he's so tired. Keep in mind my dog is a rescue and needs to work on his people socialization more. He's wonderful with other dogs but not so wonderful with people (at least at home anyway, territorial stuff going on I guess). Clearly he's wonderful with the staff at The Common Dog though and vice versa! I plan on being a regular client there for years to come and will probably try a class in the future too to help with my dog's territorial/people issues. They are putting the finishing touches on a new facility so keep your eyes pealed. It sounds like it'll be a dog paradise. read more

I wanted to have a few options for where my new pup could play for the day or get boarded if I needed it. I met a woman who worked at Common Dog while shopping at petsmart - which was how I ended up trying them. The people working there are very nice and from what I saw good with the dogs (and definitely nice to mine). She came home tired and happy. She's a pup so a bit on the wild side and they knew how to deal with her well & said she had a great time playing with all the pups. My negatives are that's it's located in a kind of crappy - hard to get to neighborhood, they don't do pick up for Somerville, and the hours are a bit difficult for me (6:30 pm is the latest pickup - vs. Pet Companions that will allow me to pick up till 8:30pm). read more

I started bringing my puppy here for daycare over the summer and it was one of the best decisions I could have made. My puppy, Chloe, showed excitement only the second time I brought her to daycare. There is a camera I like to check up on her from time to time just to see what's going on, but I love it because it shows full transparency of the business. The manager Patty is great! They offer one on one training here and she is the head trainer that worked with me and Chloe on a couple of things. My mom introduced me to this place. She began going here when she got her first dog who has since passed away. She and I both continue to leave or German shepherds here for vacations, holidays (no one wants Fido trying to steal your guests' food) and busy days. You can see your dog on camera, through an app, playing with the other dogs! This place is careful, as they will give your dog a temperament test. If your dog doesn't pass, that's ok! They'll be sure to walk your dog multiple times a day instead if in the doggie playground. Also, when they are there they are playing, not stuck in a cage. My dog and I love this place! I've been bringing Matilda to the Common Dog for about a year and half now. Matilda loves to play and always comes home from The Common Dog exhausted and snoring. The staff all know her, and call her by name so I always feel comfortable that she's being well cared for. When I pick her up I have the opportunity to see the interactive play area which is always clean. The mini clinics are great tools for pet owners- wish I could make a few more. Had high hopes for this place, because we had heard good things, but unfortunately, we didn't have a great experience. Dropped our pooch off around 10:30AM and we were able to get a tour of the place. While we were under impressed with the kennels the play yard looked nice enough, and there seemed to be a lot of dogs to play with. We left hoping for the best, but had already decided that this probably wasn't the place for us to leave our pup over night, probably just do day care every now and then. Fast forward to 6:30 when we picked her up... we were told that she did good, and that she played a lot and would be tired. Fast forward again to 10:30 at night when she got super sick from both ends. She couldn't stop pooping and puking... eventually we decided to take her to the vet ER, and after getting a poked and prodded and under the skin fluids, we were able to take her back home. The vet wasn't able to diagnose anything, but figured that maybe she ate or drank something that she shouldn't have or something along those lines. In addition to our pup being so sick, we also found fleas on her, which she most certainly didn't have before. On Sunday, we called The Common Dog to just let them know that she had gotten really sick and to see if anything weird happened or if she got into something. We didn't hear from them... I called again on Monday and finally on Monday night, I got a call back from a girl who was flat out rude. Basically said that our dog was fine during the day, but that since it was her first time there, they don't know how she usually acts. Proceeded to tell me that no dogs there are sick and that it was just our dog. She ignored me mentioning the fleas as well as my question as to why they hadn't called back sooner. I wasn't really expecting an apology or anything as I wasn't blaming The Common Dog for her getting sick, but i was looking for for them to care, even just a little bit, as we had trusted them with our much loved puppy. I can only compare the conversation to one you might have at the DMV... I know that this reads as very negative, but please remember that this was only our experience, and I have to assume that there are plenty of happy dog owners that use The Common Dog's services... we are just not one of them. We will continue our search to find a Doggie Day Care that works for us and our pup. read more

This is to follow up to the owner's note-Thank you for taking the time to write a response in a public forum. I called to discuss this issue as you suggested, but that call went unreturned. I am going to address your response here- Your holiday newsletter reported giardia in December. I alerted your staff about it in May 2010. I'm totally appalled that no one thought to report it sooner, because I discussed this with 2 staff members 7 months before your newsletter. Is there a reason they couldn't be bothered to alert the other owners over the summer? Was it too much trouble to print a memo- or do you only alert owners of problems once a year? How many dogs were infected by December due to the negligence of your staff? I suggest you accept responsibility for your business rather than attempting to shift the blame onto me and asking me to reexamine my review. My review was more than fair-I didn't go into detail about how the Common Dog *reeks* of animal waste, which FYI, is not the norm and is symptomatic of a space that is not cleaned as often as it needs to be. Let me point out that dogs contract giardia through water that has been contaminated with FECES, which means that your staff wasn't cleaning up poop for so long that the dogs had time to eat it (which mine doesn't), or the water was changed so infrequently that it was contaminated by a dog that had eaten poop that was sitting around until one of your workers felt like dealing with it. Your staff is painfully uneducated about dogs, and they are rude to boot. I came to pick my dog up one day and they had left the prong collar on for the full 8 hours. Do you have any idea how dangerous that is? The prong is only for walking them-if another dog had yanked on it, it could have been fatal. They seemed confused when I asked why it was on-"Isn't that supposed to stay on?" No. It's not. Anyone who has *any* knowledge about how to care for dogs would have known that. The girl I mentioned in my earlier review was "having a bad day" every time I went in there, and it clearly translated in her attitude. Telling patrons to exercise their dogs before they bring them in--which another reviewer commented on as well--and how my failure to do so "makes her job that much harder" is totally unacceptable. Best of luck to you in the future, I hope that you address these issues and improve your business rather than asking me to change my rating to make you look better. read more

My wife and l looked for a boarding place that was closer to home to board our black lab. Our lab has been boarded in a great place out in Norton but this time we wanted to tried something closer to home. Most of the information online seems to indicate that this a great place and we were happy with the so-called interview. Our dog did great and played nice with other dogs there so we booked her staying right on the spot. She loves playing with other dogs and that part was important for us. On the surface this looks like a great choice. However, three days into her stay we received a voice mail and an email saying that she was not doing well in groups, that she was being dominant and aggressive so she had to be put away in the crate. But in addition that she was not handling very well. We were really surprised because she is taken to the dog park at least three days a week and never has had any incident, if anything she has been bullied by more aggressive dogs. She plays almost every day with another black lab and another small dog. However, we were open to this surprising behavior thinking it was due to our absence. We arranged for her dog walker to pick her up a couple of days later since we were still away for a couple of days. However when we arrived home we noticed that she had bruises and what seems to be a rash around her mouth. The Common Dog failed to alert the dog walker about her condition when she picked her up and it was not until I called them that they kind of acknowledged the issue. One of the staff members - Monica - told me that she noticed that she was rubbing her nose against the dirt but she thought it was 'normal' and that 'it is really difficult to know what happens to every dog when they have 60 of them together'. I then asked to speak with her supervisor who called me back. This time she (Rhonda) recognized that she probably got hurt while in the crate, but she blamed her since 'she was not handling it well'. I called the vet and he is worried to treat her for the wrong thing and my feeling is that my dog was mishandled and put in the crate in a very stressful state and hurt herself while trying to get out of the crate and the staff didn't do anything. To the Common dog staff this seems to be 'normal' like if the dog deserved it. They are not apologizing but rather seem to be trying to hide the fact that they didn't do their job. They don't show any concern for the dog, in all my conversations with them they seem more concerned about covering their backs for a potential complaint. So if you are looking for a place that understands dogs and that actually take care of your dog if a difficult situation arises, this is not your place. The staff will always blame your dog and yourself. I was told that ' I don't know how aggressive my dog is'. You need to imagine this after she passing the interview with them where they watched her play with other dogs, plus she is 1 year and half old and lived with us since she was 8 weeks. It looks like they take more dogs that they can handle with the staff they have and they have staff that doesn't really care about dogs. My guess is that any dog that starts playing a little bit rough in that 60 dog pack is put away by their unexperienced staff so they don't have to deal with it. They don't seem to have enough staff to handle 60 dogs. So if you are concerned about this, you should not take your dog there. I don't think they are honest about how they handle your dog, so they won't tell you if an incident occurred. I'm planning to file and official complaint against them, if you have have a similar situation with them, please contact me. The Common Dog is a cageless boarding company out in Everett, MA. I was initially going to give Common Dog (CD) 3 stars, but based on the caption that displays for 2 stars, "Meh. I've experienced better." is the more appropriate sentiment. Before you can board your dog at the CD, you have to bring him in for an interview, which is basically just to make sure that he isn't aggressive towards other dogs or the people. Our "interview" lasted maybe a total of 15 minutes (probably less), although the lady supervising the dogs told us within a 30 seconds that there probably wouldn't be any problems boarding him. One minor annoyance is that it took a while to schedule the interview---they only have a couple days during the week (during work hours), and I think a few slots on Saturdays, which seem to fill up quickly. Make sure you schedule the interview way ahead of time, and don't wait until the last minute, or else you'll have to look somewhere else. We didn't tour the facilities, but it seemed very well kept, and the two women who were running the place at the time of our interview were very friendly and comfortable with dogs. I think the dogs have an outdoor area, where they can run around, as well as an inside room where they can play as well. This is the main room, which is lined with kennels, where the dogs sleep at night. My main problem with the CD was that our dog seemed fine when we picked him up, but a few hours after he came home, he started feeling very lethargic (he's a Jack Russell, so this is unusual), throwing up, and most scarily, his abdomen kept heaving in and out dramatically. The next day we had to take him to the vet, who thought it could have been gastritis, but wasn't sure. Luckily, our dog turned out to be ok and recovered by the next morning, but it was pretty scary. It could turn out to be a freak coincidence, and unfortunate timing for the CD, but I'm not sure. He did seem to love the other dogs and seemed quite tired and happy when he came back, but the illness after the visit tipped the scales pretty far, even if CD wasn't at fault. So right now, my rating is 2 stars, although this will be up for editing pending other experiences. Unfortunately, there are not many good dog boarding places in Boston, so we are stuck with CD :( I will keep yelpers posted... Pros: shuttle from several areas in Boston ($5 each way), clean facilities and friendly staff, interview required to check for aggression Cons: inconvenient hours (no pickup on Sundays), expensive ($40/night, $50 on holiday weekends), and could make your dog sick! read more

I would NOT RECOMMEND!!!! this place to people who have other things to do besides wait. If I could give negative stars, I would. Apparently, it takes 6 HOURS TO GROOM a maltese. When I made the appointment (about a week prior) the lady said it would take 2 hours. I thought even that was a little long but the Common Dog does have a big facility so I went ahead and brought my puppy, Charlie, in for a grooming. The appointment time was 9am so when I went to pick him up at 11, I was a little annoyed to be told he won't be done until noon. What can they possibly be doing for 3 hours? Little did I know that was only the beginning. I called before I went to pick him up at noon. NOPE he's going to be done at 1...what the heck!!!!!!!! at this point 1. I'm frustrated 2. I just want my dog back 3. I have other things to do besides check-in every hour. At 1, I'm determined to get my dog back because it has been 4 hours. The person who picks up the phone says he won't be done until 2...yea right he'll be done by 2...so I ask to pick him up which she won't let me. She so KINDLY explained that although I had an appointment at 9, I was onE of the last people to drop him off so it'll actually take close to 5 hours. THEN WHATS THE POINT OF AN APPOINTMENT?!?!?! She tells me that he has been bathed and therefore, I have to pay the ENTIRE fee even if they haven't started clipping him because they've sprayed some water on him. When we finally got him back, they charged an extra $10 to untangle his hair and he looks worse than the time I tried to clip his hair. I hate this place, will never go back. They wasted my time, were not honest with me and Charlie doesn't even look good. WORST EXPERIENCE!!!!! read more

This review is long overdue. I have been taking my dog to The Common Dog since I rescued her in July of 2013. I have nothing but praise for the Owner Laura and her entire Staff. I can't say one bad thing about the place. It slightly more expensive than other competitors but I know my dog is safe with people who care and I can't put a price on that. A few Highlights of why the Common Dog is amazing: * My dog NEVER has that "kennel " smell after daycare. * She is uncontrollable and excited when she gets to The Common Dog. She acts like she doesn't know me and can't wait to be with the "pack". * The Common Dog has really helped with my shy, abused, rescue. She has certainly gained confidence after "joining the pack". * She is completely exhausted when I pick her up. She has dinner and goes to bed for 12 hours! * The entire Common Dog Facility is spotless. * The staff is cheerful and enthusiastic. * The live video feed of the facility is comfort and fun to watch. * On line tools for billing and sign up/check in. * Groomer Acacia is amazing. It is great to have daycare and grooming in one place. * Drop off is fast. There is usually someone available to take your dog once you enter the facility. * Open 6:30AM-7:30PM. * They know my dog's name and truly love her. * Great place to take your dog especially when it is super hot, snowing, or during those short days in Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, when outside exercise options are limited. I don't know how we would have made it through February of 2015 without having them as an option for stimulation and play. * The use social media to communicate and post pics of our babies. * I have not used their training options but they do have training for dogs. * Free coffee and snacks at drop off. read more

The staff is friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and remembers your dogs name. The grounds are like a huge doggie playground yet spotless and well maintained. The good people at TCD allayed my fears of leaving my beloved pooch at the there for a weekend away (and yes, I called twice in one weekend to check up on her - because I'm crazy). Best part - if your dog loves other dogs - even though my girl was happy to see me again, I'm suspicious she enjoyed her time at the Common Dog more than she enjoys time with me. They even gave her a bath (at my request) before we picked her up and tied a bandana around her neck. I'm so glad I found this place, now I don't feel guilty for getting away once in awhile - and I know that she's not going to be cooped up all day with one or two walks and shoved in a kennel at night. read more

We took our dog Denny to Common Dog when we lived closer to the facility and I loved it! If not for our move, he would 100% still be going there. The staff is great and so friendly. Rhonda is amazing and her training sessions with our dog were so great! I completely trust Common Dog with our pup and would recommend this place to anyone looking for dog daycare or boarding services. The groomer on site is really good and affordable too! read more

Spoke to receptionist over phone and explained my golden doodle in detail and how he would require a poodle cut due to his thick curls, so I set an appt. Receptionist said no problem and groomer specializes in "all kinds of dogs". I got there and met groomer in lobby and she said she had no clue how to cut a poodle and only does "puppy cuts" (whatever that means) and she would only shave him. Total waste of time for me so I walked out. read more

I'm surprised to see these reviews so mixed, but it seems like most of the low reviews are pretty old. We've been bringing our dog to The Common Dog for almost 2 years for daycare (after 5 years at a different daycare in Boston) and are very happy with the service and care of our little guy. The staff seems to really care about the dogs and takes the time to get to know them - which dogs they get along with best, play styles, eating habits, they can tell when they aren't feeling well. They'll tell me how his day was when I pick him up. It's adorable, and you can tell they're paying attention to the animals. It's also clean and big. There's enough room for the dogs to really run and play all day. And when the weather is warm enough they have a nice outdoor area as well so your dog gets some nice time in the sun during the day. Our dog is always happy when we walk in and eager to get in the yard and see the staff and the dogs. We're happy to have found The Common Dog. read more

Our dog's excitement arriving at the Common Dog says it all! We've been using their daycare and boarding services for about a year. Our dog is always eager to get through the front door when we arrive so he must be treated well! I love the ability to watch the live webcam through an app on my phone so I can check in and watch him play. I recommend marking a name on your leash as one of mine was taken. read more
