    Catahoula leopard dog mix
    Hunter M.

I am new to the area and have been on the hunt for a new groomer for my 9 year old catahoula mix. We have had bad experiences at other places in the past so I try to take my time and research and ask others how their experiences were. I found Five Star online and had a colleague recommend it. I decided to make an appointment for basic grooming and ended up loving the results! My dog smells and looks great. The place isn't exactly aesthetically pleasing. The person who scheduled the appointment over the phone didn't practice customer service very well but that was the least of my worries. I get it. When I walked in there were dogs like everywhere and they all seemed pretty happy. And I liked the way one of the groomers was comforting the dog she was currently working on. It was my first time and I received 20% off which was nice! Overall good experience. I will be back!

Five Star Dog Salon was highly recommended by some others in town so I wanted to give it a try with my girl, Zola! The staff were very friendly and professional from the initial phone call consult, the drop off and pick up. Her grooming appointment took about 2 hours. Zola's teeth and nails look great, coat looks shiny and smells wonderful, and the groomers were attentive of my request to shave between her paw pads. The only negative is that she returned home with some patches of sap on her coat which I was hoping would have been cleaned after her bath and brushing.

Do nice job grooming but their time estimates are off by at least 2 hours and price keeps going up.

Ask the Community - Five Star Dog Salon

Are they ok with dogs who aren't the best after being washed when given a haircut?

My dog has been to probably 4-5 groomers in the last couple years because she usually comes home terrified. I brought her here last week and I showed up and she was wagging her tail, happy as could be. Was also the best actual haircut she's received…

They always do a great job with my anxious dog who really does not like being groomed, especially getting his nails trimmed.

Need your cat boarded? Look no further!…read more My husband and I unexpectedly adopted a kitten in Spring 2020. We had a beach getaway planned for early summer (booked a year in advance) and had no idea what to do with our (then 13 week old) kitten. I searched online and immediately found all of the glowing reviews for Cat's Pajamas - I'm so glad! I spoke with Patty on the phone and she eased all of my worries about leaving our baby Leo with her. We boarded Leo for the week we were away and he was the happiest boy when we picked him back up! He is a very needy kitten (needs lots of attention and cries if he doesn't get it), so I was worried about leaving him - but no need to worry with Patty! Patty made sure to have him out for playtime regularly and sent us lots of pictures to keep us updated. Leo absolutely loved her! Plus, Patty even allowed us to bring our non-clumping litter for her to use during the week, since Leo was still too young for regular clumping (if you've ever used it, you know non-clumping litter can be a pain, but Patty didn't even bat an eye at the inconvenience of it!). We left Leo with her again at the end of the summer for a last minute weekend trip and received the same 5-star treatment! We love Patty and can't recommend The Cat's Pajamas Inn highly enough!

Patty, the owner seemed lovely. I wasn't thrilled about the size of the crates 6x4, but figured we could do a trial run for 1 night before his actual stay. We agreed on a day and time for me to bring my cat and the day before she asked if I could come at 9:00am instead of 9:30am because she was heading out for 2 hours at 9:15!! WHAT?? She thought nothing of having me bring my cat who had never been there before, shove him in a crate and the leave right after he gets there for 2 hours? The whole point of me bringing him was for her to meet him, see how he does. When I asked if it might be better to bring him later that day when she would be around, she said no I'm having company!! Again WHAT?? How much attention and time was she planning on spending with my cat who would probably have been frightened as can be. I would NEVER bring my cat there and I'm so happy that I learned what she's truly all about beforehand. Looks can be deceiving!!

So you can imagine over the years... we have spent thousands at this place for her daycare, puppy training class, occasional grooming, and most recently also boarded her for our recent trip for a few days when we had no family/friends available. SCREENING - standard vaccines aside (rabies, kennel cough, distemper, etc) they also requires the Canine Influenza. Even with the kennel cough vax, Juneau managed to catch it 2x when she first started (of course always during the most inconvenient times). Most likely because during her puppyhood, she attended daycare 3-4x/week! Now that she's an adult she goes about 1x/week. They called me urgently to get her but I was in meetings all day. Since I lived nearby they actually dropped her off to stop the spread. There is always risk when exposing your dog to an environment with other dogs. Several instances when Juneau returned, she had goopy eyes so who knows what she got herself into. I'm not sure if they give dogs in the same group treats for "Birthday Parties", since she's come home with diarrhea a couple of times too. LOGISTICS - They are regimented and organized. Before booking, I'd recommend looking through their website thoroughly for costs/procedures. They've itemized a list of things that could incur extra fees (i.e. midday feeding). I've seen inside only when we took puppy classes with K9East, but they have a large facility for indoor/outdoor space. Every other month they seem to send an email update with a growing list of housekeeping reminders about how to drop off/pick up the dog. They seem to have different prices and minimums depending on the time of the year for boarding plus lots of add-ons that may interest you. COST - They market themselves as "luxury" so definitely not the most frugal option. They are reliable, provide good quality care and are the closest distance wise for us. You can prepay bulk packages to get 14% off 20, or 10% off 10 to save. They raised the price from $38 to $42/day since we joined at the beginning of 2022, which isn't too bad. However, the cost of overnight boarding increased drastically from $60 to $90/night for dogs 13+ lbs! This already feels like a mid-range hotel minus the taxes. I imagine if you have a large dog you'd need to shell out for the $105+/night options. Overnight boarding includes 1 day of daycare at full price $42, so if you just book 1 night it will be a minimum of ~$130. DAYCARE - they evaluate the dogs to determine what group(s) to place them in and whether they will be a good fit. When our Barkbuster's trainer called them up apparently Juneau is often very excited and needs to be walked around the premises before being allowed to enter the playgroup. For safety they remove all collars put them back on once you pick up the pup. It's a nice feature that the GingrApp website allows them to intake client info and make reservations. They also will attach a "Report Card" with 3-6 photos (rare occasion video) and 3 descriptors for their demeanor during the day. It is disappointing when 20~30% of the photos are super blurry. I know it's hard to photograph active dogs indoors on the go! They must be super organized to be able to identify lookalikes! BOARDING - you need to individually bag each portion of your dog's meal so the staff can easily feed the dogs or a fee of $5/day bulk food will be applied. Aside from the food packing and private 4'x6' suite, there isn't a discernable difference between what happens at daycare and boarding from the report card. They lump all the pics into one and there aren't different comments for the days that get pulled in. I imagine just the last daycare demeanor gets attached. I do wonder what is the calming music they play :) for the pups. GROOMING - Juneau's received a few baths due to our own laziness. I imagine they need to use a neutral scented shampoo. I didn't love the faint scent nor feel that value outweighed doing it ourselves. One of the times they did send her home with an adorable Christmas colored bandana! EXTRA - You can spoil your dog and add a "Birthday Party" package. I missed attaching it in 2021 due to some communication confusion. 2022, I added and it looks like she probably had fun! The staff took 20 additional photos inside, but sadly they were mostly blurry :( so won't be rebuying. I always look forward to the last week in October when they have the Howl-o-Ween festivities. The first year Juneau took part she got a fun chew toy prize so not sure if she didn't stand out in 2021. Overall a great place to trust your dog with a caring team!

The moment I ask, "Do you want to go to school?" my dog is up and ready, heading straight for the door. It's such a joy to see her excitement as we drive down the street - she knows exactly where we're going and I can't contain her enthusiasm, bouncing from window to window. When we finally pull up, I have to brace myself because she drags me to the front door, eager to get inside. It's adorable how her whole-body wiggles like an "S" when she's excited - it never fails to make me laugh. Under the new ownership, which has been in place since 2023, Pet Companions Bed and Biscuit has only improved. The facility looks better than ever, with separate rooms for chilling out, enjoying treats, solving puzzles, and even taking nature walks with the staff. And that's just the tip of the iceberg! There's so much more for the dogs to do besides playing with their friends. They even offer grooming and cageless boarding. This place is truly amazing, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
