We have a beyond-wonderful dogwalker who takes him with other dogs for daily jaunts in the woods, but we needed a day care that could take him on days when the cleaning folks come and for boarding, since he's a big, high-energy dog who needs a lot of stimulation and is really too much work to foist upon friends. We were a little gunshy coming to Dogwood because we had a less-than-great experience with a local doggie day care, but Dogwood quickly eased our fears. The staff is wonderful - Reggie runs right to them without so much as a look over his little doggie shoulder when I drop him off. He always comes home tuckered out, and even after somewhat lengthy boarding stays, he never displays any "bad habits." If anything, he actually seems a little bit better behaved after his stays at Dogwood! The staff is great with humans, too - they're always flexible and responsive, and have consistently accommodated every request they can. I'm a mildly obsessive dog mom, and I'll be forever grateful that we have a place where we feel comfortable leaving Reggie when we have to go out of town. In addition to the outdoor play area, they also offer half-hour and hourlong walks, which make me feel so much better about leaving him. He's so comfortable there, I really get the sense that it's more of a second home for him and less of a boarding situation. Some commenters have said it's pricey, but I have to disagree; the value I get from the excellent care and peace of mind far exceeds the price tag. Thanks, Dogwood!

But ever since the transition a few years ago to Riverdog, we've seen it steadily decline. While the staff are friendly (hence two stars) the place is absolutely filthy. You just need to walk in to know what I'm talking about. The place smells terrible and there is dog hair literally everywhere - piles and clumps of it. I'm not sure when the last time was that someone vacuumed the main area (maybe never??) We've tried bringing this issue up with management several times, and while they have nodded politely, nothing has been done. While I'm not a fan of publicly posting, I'm hoping that maybe this kicks things into gear? If you want a much better option for a comparable price, we now send our dog to CommonDog in Everett. The facility is immaculate (lobby is gorgeous, cameras allow you to log in and watch your pup play all day, and the staff are amazing). It's a bit further, but luckily on the way to work (for anyone working in Boston). Until Riverdog improves, we would recommend Common Dog as a far superior alternative! And if Riverdog gets better, I'll be the first to update this post - as we would really love to have a good dog daycare in the Melrose area!

You might have to leave your dog for 2 hours, maybe 4, but either way he has always come back looking great - he even got a little Christmas stocking last time! Just adorable. The care they take in treating our dogs as if they were their own means so much to me and makes me feel good when I drop them off knowing that they are being loved and well taken care of and are happy to be there. Not to mention that they come out looking so great after being shampooed, groomed and pampered. I love the little extra touches with the bandanas and bows for each season and they even offer pet photography for special occasions. I can't say enough about the people at Just Fur Paws and would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a groomer.

The staff is so friendly and the cost is very reasonable. I checked out other places for pricing and information and they were not as friendly as the Dapper Dawg nor was the pricing as fair. They take very good care of the dogs while they are there and you get a feeling that they treat your pups like they were their own. When you walk in they take the time to ask you how you would like your dog groomed; they really take the time to make sure you will be happy with their work. We were concerned about how things would go but were very impressed from the moment we first contacted Crate Escape. We initially brought Cookie to the Charlestown location which has lots of big dogs and, because that's how big dogs have fun, can be a bit boisterous at times. The excellent staff there told us they thought the Huron Ave location would be a better situation for Cookie. They were right. They did a thorough screen to ensure the environment would be safe for both Cookie and other dogs, and helped us ease her in, initially dropping her off for only a couple of hours at a time on less busy days so she'd have time to acclimate. Two years later and she's staying the entire day twice a week and she *LOVES* it. It's like her puppy play date which she returns from exhausted but happy every single time. The staff are absolutely incredible, and we are sincerely grateful to them as they have improved our pup's quality of life substantially. Obviously, all puppy all the time would be every dog owner's dream, but if that's not possible and you have to work to pay the bills and keep them in kibble, you really can't go wrong with Crate Escape!
