Sandoitchi is basically a modern take on a classic Japanese café, something I learned while reading about the place waiting on my order. This was also my first time trying a sando, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. It's a small spot with counter seating along the wall and storefront window, probably enough room for six or seven people. There are also several tables out front next to the sidewalk, which would be perfect on a good weather day. I was having a late lunch and it was a little too hot to sit outside, so I grabbed a seat at the counter and watched the people go by on the street. You can order at the register or use the QR codes at the counter seating. The menu has a nice variety of hot and cold sandos, including a few with fruit (dessert, I think). They also have several kinds of donuts, and what I believe was black sesame banana bread, along with different matchas and Japanese sodas. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Sando and Chicken Katsu Caesar Salad Sando. I was pleasantly surprised by both. The milk bread is so soft and light, and it really sets a sando apart from most other sandwiches I've had. The fried chicken is sliced thin with a very crispy outside while still staying moist. The seasoning was a little salty, but had a nice zesty flavor. Between the seasoned chicken and that soft milk bread, it made for a unique and really good sandwich. Definitely a good introduction to my first sando. I'll be back to try something else. The Egg Salad Sando has my attention, but then again, so does the Lobster Roll Sando. Hopefully next time the weather is a little cooler so I can sit outside, have lunch, and enjoy the downtown street scene.

Matcha parfait

They were out at the State Fair, and when I spotted their matcha parfait, I had to give it a try. Figured it would be a good way to wash down the Berry Me in Matcha we had just enjoyed at Drizzle Cheesecake. The parfait was good, but nothing particularly unusual or unique that made it stand out from other matcha desserts. Still, I enjoyed it! As a newcomer to the 2026 State Fair, it's worth checking out if you're in the mood for matcha, but don't expect anything groundbreaking.

I was walking on Main to find something to eat and discovered Sandoitchi. It was perfect as I wanted a light meal that I could slip in between meetings. They had plenty of outdoor seating and mostly counter space inside. Staff members were friendly and helpful. Appreciated that one server asked how I enjoyed my sandwich as I was heading out. I got an egg sando, which came boxed and ready to go out of their refrigerator. Perhaps the cold sandwiches are pre-made. Curious if items like the burger or shrimp/chicken katsu sandos come out hot and made-to-order. My sandwich was fine. Pretty much what I expected. Soft milk bread and solid egg salad. The crushed pepper was a nice touch.

Decent katsu sandwich, matcha was okay but a little too sweet and probably way better fresh than delivered 30 minutes.

We've wanted to try this place for a while as we both love Japanese food. Honestly would probably have rated 3.5 stars if possible because the lobster roll was expensive and super underwhelming with too much chili oil, but the chicken katsu was perfectly cooked and had a nice balance with the slaw. Service was friendly and it's definitely a popular place with many waiting for takeout orders on a Saturday. Vibe is chill.

OMG!! This was such an amazing experience! You should definitely fit it into your schedule--you won't regret it!

WAGYU BURGER KATSU SANDO
Stew F.

Stopped by Sando Ichi after visiting the Perot Museum of Nature and Science - great location for a post-museum bite, but fair warning: street parking is a challenge. We tried the Cajun ebi shrimp katsu sando, wagyu burger katsu sando, crispy Japanese sweet potatoes, and elote corn karaage. Flavor-wise, everything was solid to excellent - the shrimp katsu was especially tasty, and the sides were fun and well-seasoned. That said, the wagyu burger katsu was a letdown. Because it's deep-fried, the patty was severely overdone, which feels particularly disappointing when you're paying a premium for wagyu. At that point, the specialness of the meat is kind of lost. Which brings me to the biggest issue: the prices are crazy for what you get. Great flavors, yes - but the execution and value don't quite justify the cost. Worth trying once, especially if you're already in the area, but not somewhere I'm rushing back to anytime soon.

Tried Sandoitchi recently and overall it was a solid experience!! Cajun Ebi sando: couldn't really taste much Cajun seasoning, but still a pretty good sandwich overall. The fried shrimp and a good texture and wasn't overcooked. Chicken katsu: wasn't my favorite. It was fine, just not something I'd reorder. The sauce leaned way too sweet for me, the chicken wasn't very juicy, and it lacked flavor. The bread on both sandos was okay but not what I was hoping for. It felt more like American white bread than Japanese milk bread, which is more fluffy and slightly sweet. Also could've used a bit more mayo since the sandwich did taste a little dry. Drinks: I appreciate the creativity of the drinks. However, the matcha was just okay but I could notice the clumps suspended in the milk, so i had to keep on stirring my drink as I continued to sip. The matcha flavor itself was weak and got overpowered by the other ingredients. The ube mango lassi, though, was solid. All the drinks were too sweet for me though. Prices are on the higher side for what you get, but the food was still enjoyable and convenient if you're craving a sando and don't want to think too hard about it. There is some bench seating inside and tables outside the front.

I've been going to sandoitchi since they had pop ups years ago. The store front is in downtown and it's pretty small and meant for a quick bite as there isn't a ton of seating. The service was good and standard. As for the food, I ordered the spicy katsu sandwich, yuzu arnold palmer, a strawberry matcha, a matcha donut and ube donut. Ngl I was disappointed with the flavor and amount of meat in the sandwich. It just tasted like buffalo sauce and only one slice of meat in a pretty small $12 sandwich. The strawberry matcha and yuzu palmer were great tho and I'd recommend. The donuts were okay and the matcha donut was not my favorite and was not well balanced and overpowered by the dough, but the ube donut was great since there was filling inside which really helped it. Overall, I'd recommend trying sandoitchi but was just disappointed with the portion sizing of the sandwich and matcha donut.

A little pricey but super elevated dish and nice pre-sandwich item. Highly recommend.

Have eaten here many times for lunch. $12-15 sandwiches. Probably most popular is the chicken katsu but they are all great. Big surprise is the cucumber appetizer in the picture. A little pricey but super elevated dish and nice pre-sandwich item. Highly recommend.

I was so excited to finally try Sandoitchi! I came here during lunch on a weekday and was able to get my food in a timely manner. I ordered the classic chicken katsu sando and fries. The fries were fantastic and extremely crispy. The sando was overall cooked well but the sauce on the chicken was just a little bit too sweet for me. The bread was good and the chicken was fried very nicely but the sauce was just a bit distracting. Overall, I would come back to this location but would just try a different item.

STRAWBERRY MATCHA LATTE (COLD)

Sandoitchi has been on my radar for several years, and I am so happy to have finally been able to try it! It's a tiny spot conveniently located downtown; There are a few seats inside and most chairs being out front, however the staff is fairly quick, efficient, and super friendly with taking orders and giving recommendations. I ended up getting the truffle chicken sandwich, matcha donut (they ran out of the ube donut which they said was the most popular), and the strawberry matcha latte. Everything was delicious and fitting for a quick and not too heavy of a lunch. I think the price of the sandwich is a little steep for the size, however the flavor did not disappoint. I would definitely come back next time I'm in town!

Strawberry Sando

Delicious! We got the lobster roll, katsu Cesar, and strawberry sando. The lobster was spicier than expected but still good, my favorite was the Cesar and strawberry. Sweet but not too sweet.

Reviews are mixed. Many highlight the unique sandwich flavors, friendly staff, and lively downtown atmosphere. The creative drink options are also popular.

I've also tried coming here before, and there was also a long wait. I'm glad I decided to stick it out this time. We ordered the Wagyu sushi, Yakitori, Tonkotsu Miso Ramen, and the Tomato Ramen. The Wagyu sushi is torched right in front of you! The Wagyu was incredibly tender and the sauce was delicious. My only *nitpicky* critique is the rice was ever so slightly too moist, but that didn't stop me from inhaling the sushi. Next, the Yakitori was phenomenal. I've never had such tender chicken in my life. There was a nice layer of delicious sauce coating the skewer. Again, just a really nitpicky feedback I have was that I wish the Yakitori had the tiniest bit more char to it, but nevertheless was an incredible bite, and I'd 100% order again in a heartbeat. Onto the ramen - easily hands down one of the best ramen I've had in DFW. The broth is flavorful, and I love the noodles. I'm not sure if they're handmade from scratch, but they had the perfect thickness and chewiness. I also loved generous the portion of cha shu slices. Most other places only give you 1-2 thin slices, but that was not the case here. The pork was tender. The ajitama was solid too, although I prefer more of a soft-boiled egg. While the meat portion is more generous here, the tonkotsu didn't come with many vegetables. A lot of other ramen places I've been to will have corn, fried garlic, etc as default, but those are all additional cost add-ons here. The ramen was delicious without them though but just something to note. We also got the tomato ramen as it's the chef recommendation. The dish is very creative and the execution was great. Personally, I still prefer traditional ramens but it was certainly a nice culinary creation to try. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place and would come here again. Just be aware there may be a wait, and because they're so busy, you do have to proactively flag down staff. However, the staff are still really nice despite all the tasks they're juggling at once.

He checked in with us throughout the meal to make sure everything tasted good, offered to cut our hand rolls in half so we could share, and even gave us a salmon belly on the house. Black Cod Nigiri ($6): Best bite of the night and it was on the seasonal menu. It was cooked and I'm not sure what they did to it, but it was absolutely phenomenal. Salmon Truffle Ponzu ($18): My second favorite dish of the night. The salmon was super fresh and the truffle ponzu elevated the whole thing. Scallop Foie Gras ($24): Beautiful presentation and good but surprisingly not as flavorful as the salmon truffle ponzu. I was expecting more umami from the foie gras. Salmon Belly Toro Nigiri ($16): Salmon belly with fatty toro topped with ikura. Delicious and melts in your mouth. Toro Wagyu Uni Nigiri ($22): Fatty tuna, A5 wagyu beef, and uni nigiri. My husband thought it was fun to eat, but said he would not order it again. Nodoguro Nigiri ($13): I looked this up, and it's apparently a rare high end deep sea fish from Japan known as the toro of white fish. Based purely on taste though, I thought it was okay and did not compare to the salmon belly. Kanpachi Cherry Blossom ($6.50): A pretty rosy pink color with a subtle cherry blossom flavor. Okay in terms of taste compared to the other fishes we had. Ami Ebi Nigiri ($10): The sweet shrimp was a bit too raw for me. Crab Uni Butter Nigiri ($12): I did not really taste the difference between the uni infused butter and regular butter so I am not sure it is worth the price, though it was still good. Snow Crab Handroll ($7): So much better than imitation crab. Recommend out of all the handrolls we tried. Eel Handroll ($7.50): Not my favorite but my husband said it was one of the best eel he has ever had. Lobster Handroll ($12): Good but nothing special. Volcano Roll ($28): This took the longest to make and was the last item we received even though we saw them start preparing it at the beginning of the meal. The presentation was beautiful and Jayden even sprayed gold on it for our photo and video. It comes with snow crab, avocado, lobster, and bay scallop topped with eel sauce and was really yummy with lots of seafood. The only downside was that the roll underneath broke apart easily which made it hard to eat. Fresh Wasabi Root ($10): We watched them grind the wasabi fresh which was cool to see. It doesn't have a kick to it though so I wouldn't order it again since I like a tiny bit of spiciness. Matcha Mojito ($15): Not for me. It had a bit too much club soda. Yuzu Saketini ($15): I liked this one more than the matcha mojito. The yuzu flavor was prominent and it kind of reminded me of a Lemon Drop.
