Brisket & double fries plate
Sarah H.

I have never been to sandfly bbq when it isn't Poppin' but I took a late lunch break today and was delighted to have the plate to myself at 2pm on a Thursday afternoon. I had the double brisket and a whole mess of fries . My meal came out fast- fresh and most of all delicious! This is my favorite bbq place on this part of town and it was nice to experience it when it was but calmer than the normal Saturday afternoon rush.

Three sliders plate and collards

Had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. We got there around noon before the crowd about ten minutes later. Small dining room inside and tables outside. Order at a counter and they bring your food quickly. I got the three sliders,(sausage, pork, and brisket) with collards. My wife got the six wings with fried okra. I really enjoyed my sliders with their sweet sauce. The collards were very good with pepper sauce on the table. My wife got the wings dry rubbed with a dipping sauce she enjoyed. Fried okra was good. Good barbecue experience.

Brunswick stew - quart $18

Delicious bbq, one of the best out there. The Brunswick stew is probably the best we've ever had and is at the top of its category. A little pricey though, but the quality stands out.

Stopped in on a recommendation from our daughter. So glad we did. We ordered the Hog Sampler which gave you a portion of all their meats, two sides, and two slices of Texas toast. All the meat was nice and tender and had a great smoked flavor. The brisket, pulled pork, chicken and ribs was very tasty. The baked beans have a nice flavor, however, was too much meat and very little beans. The macaroni and cheese were not that good, noodles way over cooked. Potato salad wasn't bad. The building is small however, does provide outside seating . Service was provided with a welcoming friendly smile. Even though a few of the sides were not to my liking the meat definitely was. We will be back.

A large group of us went during the lunch rush. I was so impressed by the service. We were able to find tables outside to push together that fit our party. I got a pulled pork plate with Mac & cheese and greens. Everything was good. My friend ordered fried banana peppers and those were AMAZING! Their tea is also decent. I would totally eat her again.

2 meat plate

This is our favorite kind of place... where the locals eat. The fries are thin and handcut very delicious! The baked beans are sweet with chunks of meat no onions! Just the way we like them. Staff is friendly & portions are large.

We do takeout here and it's fairly good. We have not been in a while as we don't live near this restaurant anymore.

Great BBQ. Authentic southern flavors that are not covered in a sauce. Great selection with fast service.

Amazing food, awesome service! My only regret is not grabbing a cheesecake on the way out.

Must be popular because they always run out of food. Menu on the wall is creative but no bones listed! Better to call in pickup order!

Awesome brisket. Wow. Top 5 I've had. No knife needed, just melts in your mouth. Just the right amount of fat/marbling.

Mrs Wilkes' Dining Room - Sooo many sides...all so good!

It honestly reminds me of that 'Country Greek' hospitality where nobody leaves hungry. The food is just phenomenal. That Fried Chicken is easily some of the best in the South, perfectly crispy and seasoned. I couldn't get enough of the Sweet Potato Soufflé and the Creamed Corn, which was so fresh and rich. The Macaroni and Cheese was exactly how it should be, thick and flavorful with that perfect baked crust. Every bowl they brought out was delicious, from the Butter Beans to the Flaky Biscuits. If you look at the photos, the sheer amount of food is mind-blowing. It's like a massive family feast every single day. Eating on Jones Street in such a historic spot makes the whole thing feel like a core memory. It is absolutely worth the wait.

The restaurant is communal style and only opened from 11am-2pm. There are about 8 oval shaped tables total that can seat approximately 8-10 people per table. I believe they said they can seat 75 total. When you go inside, at each table they'll have sweet tea and plenty of dishes of food for you to choose from already on the table. The options included fried chicken, sweet cornbread, biscuits, green beans, black eyed peas, Mac n cheese, squash, okra, dirty rice, collard greens, potatoes au gratin, Lima beans, pulled pork, beef stew, mashed sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, potato salad, and maybe a few more options. You pass the dishes around the table and load your plate up until your heart is content. The best items to me were the fried chicken, sweet cornbread, and peach cobbler. The dirty rice was undercooked and there were hard pieces. Everything else was just sustenance. If you're a vegetarian, your options will be limited to sides only. You might be able to have squash, Mac n cheese, and maybe potato salad. Many of the items are cooked with meat or made with beef or chicken stock. It's $35 flat per person. Based on the 2 hour and 15 minute wait, I don't think the food was worth it. If the wait was 30 mins to 45 mins, maybe.
