    Hong Wild Platter

Some of the best BBQ I've eaten has come at the recommendation of friends (locals), long before being discovered by authentic food critics. Sandfly BBQ falls in that category. I shared a "Hog Wild" Platter with a friend while his wife tried the vegetable plate. They were sold out of ribs, so we rounded out of order of brisket (sliced), sausage, and chicken (white meat) with a second order of brisket. All of the meats were flavorful enough to eat without sauce. The sliced brisket was on-point. The sausage was grilled (vs. slow smoked) and had great texture and flavor. They gave me chopped brisket instead of a second order of sliced brisket and unfortunately it did not compare favorably to the slided brisket. The sides were solid. Crispy french fries pair well with BBQ as does savory, well-seasoned collard greens. The vegetable plate (fried okra, mac and cheese, cole slaw, and sweet potato fries) also received high marks. There is no review of the chicken, as we ran out of stomach capacity before touching it. We boxed it up for my friend to take with him. Hopefully he will write a review.

I don't love barbecue but I loved this place! It was super fresh and the meat was very tender. Sauces are great and so are the sides. Friendly staff and there is plenty of outdoor seating with our dog. Highly recommend the pooled chicken.

Was here for the first time on Monday10/13/25 6pm & This place was recommended by a local and Sandfly bbq did NOT disappoint! I really enjoyed my brisket sandwich with the a slight crunch from my buttered slightly toasted buns with the bbq sauce. It was good. Mac & cheese was just cheesy enough. Service was awesome and informative. Not too many tables inside but was cozy. I highly recommend this place and would come back if ever in town again

I have never been to sandfly bbq when it isn't Poppin' but I took a late lunch break today and was delighted to have the plate to myself at 2pm on a Thursday afternoon. I had the double brisket and a whole mess of fries . My meal came out fast- fresh and most of all delicious! This is my favorite bbq place on this part of town and it was nice to experience it when it was but calmer than the normal Saturday afternoon rush.

Had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. We got there around noon before the crowd about ten minutes later. Small dining room inside and tables outside. Order at a counter and they bring your food quickly. I got the three sliders,(sausage, pork, and brisket) with collards. My wife got the six wings with fried okra. I really enjoyed my sliders with their sweet sauce. The collards were very good with pepper sauce on the table. My wife got the wings dry rubbed with a dipping sauce she enjoyed. Fried okra was good. Good barbecue experience.

Delicious bbq, one of the best out there. The Brunswick stew is probably the best we've ever had and is at the top of its category. A little pricey though, but the quality stands out.

Stopped in on a recommendation from our daughter. So glad we did. We ordered the Hog Sampler which gave you a portion of all their meats, two sides, and two slices of Texas toast. All the meat was nice and tender and had a great smoked flavor. The brisket, pulled pork, chicken and ribs was very tasty. The baked beans have a nice flavor, however, was too much meat and very little beans. The macaroni and cheese were not that good, noodles way over cooked. Potato salad wasn't bad. The building is small however, does provide outside seating . Service was provided with a welcoming friendly smile. Even though a few of the sides were not to my liking the meat definitely was. We will be back.

Don't let this scare you away... the good places are always like this!!! We walked in and were immediately greeted and sat at a high-top table. The restaurant was clean and busy. Our server was a younger guy who was in training but you would have easily assumed he was a pro. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and confident when fielding the questions we had about the menu. We ordered a Half Slab portion of their St Louis Cut Ribs platter with fries and mac-and-cheese as a side & the 1/2 Chicken platter with Brunswick Stew and mac-and-cheese as a side. Both proteins were tender and well seasoned. Both were served with a piece of buttered Texas toast. Their original and Better than Sex sauces were great additions to the flavors! The mac-and-cheese was creamy and delicious. Not my favorite Brunswick Stew but it satisfied the craving that I had.

My wife and I each ordered the 4 bone, St. Louis cut spare ribs and 2 sides. She went with Collards and Sweet Potato casserole and I also did. Collards but added potato salad as my second side. The ribs arrived looking a bit man handled but that what due to the tenderness of the meat. Using the "Better Than Sex - Original" sauce was a great compliment to the smoked meat. The meat alone was delicious without being over smoked. Paired with the sauce it was truly delicious. The collards were tasty though I do like mine cooked with some pork added. We were offered some hot sauce and should have tried a splash or two. The casserole and the potato salad were both quite tasty and were nice balanced against the collards. Service was great and I wish we lived less than a thousand miles away. Definitely give this place a try b

We tried the Smashburger special with fried Brussels sprouts tossed in a sticky Asian glaze -- and I say this as a Brussels enthusiast: some of the best I've had in my life. The pulled pork sandwich was a hit with the kids (zero leftovers = five-star review). The mac and cheese disappeared faster than I could taste it. And yes, we got the tots -- well seasoned and totally necessary. No dine-in space, but honestly? Sitting in the car with the A/C blasting, swapping bites with the kids, and not worrying about anyone spilling on a restaurant floor felt just right. Before our trip, one of my fraternity brothers told me that if I wanted some of the best Southern soul food in Savannah, I had to visit Mrs. Wilkes. He also warned me that there would be a long wait. Let me just say--he was absolutely right on both counts! We arrived at the restaurant and stood in line outside in the rain. We didn't get seated until 1:00 PM. Normally, I would not wait that long for a meal, but for the record, and I can't believe I'm saying this--it was worth every minute of the wait. The experience was unlike any restaurant I've ever visited. My wife and I were seated at a large table with approximately eight other people whom we had never met. Yet within minutes, it felt like we were dining with family. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and filled with genuine Southern hospitality. The food was simply outstanding. Every traditional Southern dish you can imagine was brought to the table and passed family-style from person to person. The home-cooked flavors reminded me of the meals many of us grew up enjoying. Everything was delicious, and the desserts were just as impressive. What made the experience even more special was the sense of community. People of different backgrounds and races were dining together, sharing food, conversation, and fellowship. The staff worked together seamlessly and went out of their way to make every guest feel welcome. While we waited in line, a gracious lady shared the history of the restaurant and the legacy of Mrs. Wilkes herself. The staff even provided umbrellas to guests who didn't have one--including me--which was a thoughtful gesture that spoke volumes about their commitment to customer service. From the food, to the hospitality, to the rich history and unique family-style dining experience, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room exceeded every expectation. If you're visiting Savannah, this is not just a meal--it's an experience. I proudly give Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room a 5 out of 5-star rating and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Savannah.
