Very disappointed with our experience at Sandfly BBQ. Unfortunately, the restaurant really lived up to its name--there were flies everywhere. The dining area appeared dirty and had an unpleasant odor that made us question the overall cleanliness of the establishment. When we walked in, no one greeted us or explained how ordering worked. I asked if we should just sit down and order, and the cashier, a heavy-set woman with dark hair and glasses, simply said, "Sit anywhere." A moment later, my daughter asked the same question and was told, "You order here, then sit." It would have been nice if that had been explained to me the first time. Because of the poor service and first impression, I chose not to order anything. My daughter did order, and unfortunately the food was just as disappointing. It was dry, flavorless, and not worth the price. Between the lack of customer service, poor food quality, and concerning cleanliness issues, this was not a good experience. The food is the star! I visited Sandfly for the first time in Feb 2026. I was accompanied by a mate who travels the country and eats Bbq nationwide. He was impressed. I was in heaven! I had the Hog Wild Platter. The sliced brisket was melt in your mouth good. They were out of ribs, so an extra portion of the delicious brisket filled in. The pulled pork was well prepared although a bit dry. The chicken... ohhh the chicken was tender, juicy and delicious. For sides, the collard greens reminded me of my childhood in Florida. Some of the best BBQ I've eaten has come at the recommendation of friends (locals), long before being discovered by authentic food critics. Sandfly BBQ falls in that category. I shared a "Hog Wild" Platter with a friend while his wife tried the vegetable plate. They were sold out of ribs, so we rounded out of order of brisket (sliced), sausage, and chicken (white meat) with a second order of brisket. All of the meats were flavorful enough to eat without sauce. The sliced brisket was on-point. The sausage was grilled (vs. slow smoked) and had great texture and flavor. They gave me chopped brisket instead of a second order of sliced brisket and unfortunately it did not compare favorably to the slided brisket. The sides were solid. Crispy french fries pair well with BBQ as does savory, well-seasoned collard greens. The vegetable plate (fried okra, mac and cheese, cole slaw, and sweet potato fries) also received high marks. Order at a counter and they bring your food quickly. I got the three sliders,(sausage, pork, and brisket) with collards. My wife got the six wings with fried okra. Stopped in on a recommendation from our daughter. So glad we did. We ordered the Hog Sampler which gave you a portion of all their meats, two sides, and two slices of Texas toast. All the meat was nice and tender and had a great smoked flavor. The brisket, pulled pork, chicken and ribs was very tasty. The baked beans have a nice flavor, however, was too much meat and very little beans. The macaroni and cheese were not that good, noodles way over cooked. Potato salad wasn't bad. From both food quality to the staff, Sandfly is a broken shell of what it once was. Idk where to begin with this nightmare. Not only was my food delivered in an unsealed, opened bag, but it also came extremely cold. I barely received what I ordered There was definitely noooooot a 1/2 LB of pork in my container at all with the $16.99 pork plate with 2 sides. The sides were lumpy, hard, and cold at that. The potato salad had no flavor; it tasted like plain vinegar. Texas toast was burnt. It was inedible I immediately contacted the restaurant, believing they'll act in decency. Nothing of the sort happened. I spoke to two employees, one of whom was the upfront manager named Jeanie. She was one of the nastiest, rudest people I've ever met, nor did she care to help resolve this extremely upsetting matter one bit In fact, Jeanie and the other employee both had a no-care attitude towards a severely heartbroken grieving widow crying on the phone and explaining my current painful situation and wanting to have a meal from a place I made memories at with my husband I communicated clearly to Jeanie the details of my unsatisfactory experience. She chose to berate me, talk down to me like a child, literally say she didn't care about what I was saying, and yell at me. Her voice was so loud that other people overheard her and came to see if I was ok Jeanie eventually claimed that she was going to do a one-time refund, which she made abundantly clear that she would NEVER do again. She then gave me the runaround and told me she was unable to refund because it was a takeout order... that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever There's a way you talk to people. You don't talk to people any way you want. Especially as a manager. If you can't treat people, paying customers no less, with dignity, then you have no business serving as a manager in any capacity Their disgusting behavior matches their constantly falling health score. Very friendly staff and great sides. Ordered the sweet potatoes fries which were seasoned perfectly and the chopped brisket plate. Biggest beef with the order (pun intended) was the brisket. Brisket was cold(ish) to the point that the fat was beginning to gelatinize. The sauces were good and the environment was quaint. Price was as expected. We were visiting Savannah and whilst at a hiking trail a young married couple got to chatting me up. He said he was a bbq snob and this place was a 10/10! This one, was by far my favorite. (We have now been to about 6 different BBQ places in the area). The staff was incredibly friendly and walked us through the menu and their personal favorites. They have a board right up front that notates what they are out of, so there is no guessing game when it comes time to order. They have 3 speciality BBQ sauces, which were all fantastic. I couldn't pick a favorite. The pulled pork was cooked exceptionally and the smoked chicken melted in my mouth. The coleslaw was fresh and the mac and cheese was gooey and cheesy, without overdoing it. My highlight was the brunswick stew, it seems to have a lighter base than most, and it was my most favorite brunswick stew i've had to date. I really wanted to give it 5 stars, but they messed up my husbands order today and didn't give him sausage but pulled pork Instead. He took his plate up and showed them the mistake. He's a super easy going guy. They took the plate and I was left to eat while he sat and waited. Finally some old lady came out and slapped the plate down. No apology or even "enjoy". So my problem is...they should have let him keep his plate and just gave him the sausage. That way he could be at least eating. That's the proper southern customer service thing to do. After all it was their mistake not his. The gal who took our order was very polite and friendly. Older white lady, not so much. The meat was decent. The okra was on point! My husband and I ordered the bbq plate for two and added an order of sweet potato fries and Cole slaw. My husband loved it all.
