My wife and I were driving home from running some errands and noticed a ton of smoke coming from a building while waiting at the light on Waters and Henry. I rolled down the windows because I could tell somebody was making BBQ, and the smell made us both perk up. We drove by and said to one another that we should try that sometime, because it smelled amazing, then we made it one street down and both agreed we needed to turn around and try it today. There was free parking at the church across the street, and the second we parked and crossed Waters to check the place out, we were greeted by clouds of decadent-smelling smoke billowing out from the screened porch attached to the building. I told my wife that I hoped we would smell like that smoke all day. The place was packed when we walked in, but it turned out everybody had ordered and was just waiting for their food to come out, so another customer told us to wait by the register, and about 15 minutes later we ordered a large combo plate and were given a ticket with a number to be called out when our food was ready. 10-15 minutes after we ordered, our number was called, and we took our bag (which felt like it weighed 5 lbs) and walked it back to our car across the street. We opened up the container just to get a sample before heading home, and ended up eating nearly the entire meal in the car, trying our best not to spill sauce everywhere but really not caring either way. The combo plate came with two chicken legs, about 3/4 of a rack of pork ribs, a side of baked beans, and two slices of classic white bread. It usually comes with potato salad, too, but neither of us are huge potato salad fans. However, we will try it next time, because I imagine they could put a shoe in a container and it would taste amazing given their cooking skills. The pork ribs were the most tender ribs I've ever had in my life. I've always said that it doesn't matter how easily the meat falls off the bone, but rather how easily it melts in your mouth when you've taken a bite. These ribs melted in your mouth. The chicken was equally delicious. The meat was tender and juicy, and--somehow--there was actually crispy skin on part of it, which had audible crunch when bitten into. The sauce was incredible. You can ask for it to be put on your ribs and chicken, or--like we plan to next time--buy a bottle to go. It's a mix of mustard and vinegar based, which is hands down my favorite. I grew up in upstate SC where you can find both options, but having them all in one was a dream come true. The baked beans were a great, sweet break from the chicken and ribs, and a slice of classic white bread is always great for soaking up extra sauce. I can't recommend this spot enough. First of all this is nothing like Randy's barbecue. Sauce is a little different/better . I happen to stumble upon this place at 10:55 in the morning so there was no line. I mean I gave Randy a four star should've been three. Tricks is five star absolutely delicious. I mean the beans could have a little bit more to them like bacon or onion. Tricks was recommended by a local, and we were not disappointed! This is indeed a bbq stand, so don't expect to have a sit down meal here; take out only. We went towards the end of the day, but they were still quite busy. They are as quick as they can be, so expect a little wait (I promise it's worth it! Luckily we snagged the last 3 meals! So please note, when they run out of food, that's a wrap, so get there early if you can! Everything is reasonably priced, and you get a good amount of food for the price. But what I don't know was the wait, you placed your order through a door/window and then your number would be called, could take 20-30 minutes for food, so patience is the key. Had to wait a long time to order, then had to wait over 30 minutes for food. They did not tell me how long the wait was or I would have waited in my car instead of the hot sun. I'm so glad I got lost, and stumbled into this establishment. They sold out everything but the pork ribs. I ordered the small rib plate, and decided to just sit on the sidewalk and enjoyed them. Did I enjoyed those delicious pork ribs.... The folks there were so kind, they brought me a chair and even gave me a water for free. Upon arrival my thought was this is gonna be really good judging by the line that was formed waiting to place orders. The location is set up in what appears to be an old gas station which has a portable tent in the front with a person to take orders and payments after which they assign you a numbered ticket. You then stand around the parking lot waiting for a person that emerges out from behind a storm door and calls your number holding a plastic grocery bag that contains your food in a styrofoam container. There is also a large fishing size cooler containing semi-cold water and you are allowed 1 bottle per order as it was included in your meal. I ordered the medium chicken and rib combo which by the way, if you want to try, I suggest getting there early because when they run out of something they run out. They just so happened to run out of chicken a short while after I placed and received my order and I understand why... the ribs are crap. The chicken was absolutely juicy and fabulous, being perfectly cooked and served with a very unique and flavorful rendition of a BBQ sauce. The ribs on the other hand were tough and gummy and other than sucking the sauce of of them a waste of time. Gosh darn this stuff is good and so cheap! I highly recommend you get there early because the chicken will sell out and they're the biggest bbq chicken wings I've ever seen! My favorite is definitely the ribs those. They're nice and messy just the way I like it. You can smell this place from a mile away and see the smoker so you know it's good. A simple straight forward menu with the prices next to the items: chicken, ribs, and sides. My boyfriend and I decided to order a snack size meal with chicken and potato salad. This restaurant works on a "We're open until we run out" basis. So at that time we only had the choice of potato salad or rice as our side. But either way I was perfectly fine with what we chose. *Entree: Chicken and potato salad (snack size) The snack size came with five drumsticks, a regular slice of bread, house made bbq sauce,and a scoop of potato salad. The chicken had a deep char of smoked chicken. The chicken is decent but the BBQ sauce is absolutely out of this world! Nice tangy and sweet orange colored sauce. Amazing! Two thumbs up. Got there about 10:30 am because the night before I got there late and they were sold out. Sat down under the canopy and chatted with some old locals that clearly frequent the place. I waited till 11:25 when the ribs were ready it was a great day and the gang there was friendly and I had no where I needed to be. I have been to many cities and ate ribs and these are the places that have the best. Not much to look at just straight up great food. I got a full rack of pork ribs and omg was it a lot of ribs I cannot believe that they could sell that much meat for 20 dollars. We got a medium ribs plate and a medium chicken plate, and there was enough food for two meals for two adults. The chicken was smoked to perfection. Always a line at this strange place when I drove by: that was my first clue that something was up. I didn't know what people were lining up for though. Car wash, auto repair, liquor store, Junk Yard? I had no idea what this place was. It didn't look like a traditional BBQ joint but the sweet smell and smoke told me I had to investigate. I got in line with the other people having no idea if I was getting my car washed or buying a 1978 AMC Pacer transmission, but as luck would have it, I was getting the best BBQ I have probably ever had. Thank God I did check it out because it is my opinion the best BBQ in town and there are plenty. I am not dissing the other places but this place is really fantastic and cheap. Small, medium and large chicken, beef, pork or lamb rib dinners to go-there are no tables, take out only. The large dinners are enough for two people. The two sides I had were also excellent- which were the potato salad and baked beans, Friday and Saturday only they also have seafood salad. Forget what the place looks like and dive right in. Ok get this- I'm on my way back from the spa (Temple Day Spa for anybody interested) and headed to Tybee Island (because I'm an out of towner who does touristy things) when I just so happened to run into this place. As much as I love fancy food, I also love a good random hidden gem, and seeing what appeared to be a giant smoker in what appeared to be an abandoned gas station just caught my attention. Even though I was smelling of lilac (but in a manly sort of way) I suddenly felt compelled to also smell of BBQ. So I made a sharp right turn and hopped out to see what's what. I should mention that I'm a hardcore BBQ guy. I literally travel for BBQ. I've been to most of the major BBQ cities - the Carolinas BBQ trail, Memphis, KC, Lockhart, Austin, even that little part of Illinois bordering St. Louis. The only BBQ towns I haven't visited yet are eastern KY, Decatur AL, and Honolulu (which I'm a little skeptical about personally). In other words, I know my 'cue. If you're like that, then the first thing that you will immediately see is that "giant smoker" isn't a smoker at all. It's actually the biggest charcoal grill I've ever seen in my life. I only say that because the hardcore BBQ crowd should know that it's not technically BBQ, but rather grilled ribs with BBQ sauce. If you go in with your expectations set accordingly (think backyard cookout and not 14 hour smoked) you'll have a fun meal. All they had left by the time I got there were the ribs. The guy out front kept looking at me strange. I couldn't figure out why until he said "is that....lilac?" "Yeah, just came from Temple Day Spa up the street" "You?" "Yeah" "You're not from around here, are you?" Great guess! So the ribs arrived (sauce on the side OF COURSE) and I took them to my parked car. I liked them! They're grilled, not smoked, so you won't get that smoked wood flavor or rings that a hardcore type might want, but it was well cooked, had a nice bite to it, and the sauce is that signature South Carolina mustard sauce. I don't know if they had other options in case you're more of a vinegar or tomato type, but it went well with the ribs, though they are a bit sweet so definitely get them on the side and pour to taste. The baked beans were REALLY good, I should say. Sweet but not too sweet. It was a fun experience overall, and I would recommend if you're not too fussy about the smoker thing. read more

I have been told a couple of times now. Being a BBQer myself I believe I know my Q. Now Trick's doesn't smoke their meat they use charcoal. I do like their grills a lot. They are old schooled have ben burning a longtime. The place is first come first served with choices of ribs, chicken, beef, lamb with a couple of sides available. I walked up today and there was already a line. I ordered the medium ribs with red rice. Now it took a bit but there was plenty of ribs in my box. The red rice was just that red and it was rice. The ribs on the other hand were mighty tasty. They were smothered in a mustard sauce. The meat was tender and had some good flavor. There was probably 10-12 cut ribs.
