Help, I've been bitten by Sandfly BBQ. The easiest thing to do was order the sampler platter so we got to try everything. I'll run 'em down for you one by one. Brisket was tender and smoky, pulled pork came with some burnt ends and when placed on the Texas toast with some pig dip and slaw made for a heaven sandwich. Smoked sausage had a deep and rich flavor which was complemented by the beans. Finally the ribs were dry rubbed, smoked then sauced for fall-off-the-bone deliciousness. The rub came through a little salty at times but the consistency was right on. We also got the sweet potato fries and fried okra which both turned out to be excellent choices. The fries were fresh and moist and the okra lightly battered and surprisingly addictive give that it had never been my favorite vegetable. Easily the best BBQ in Savannah, certainly some of the best in the entire state. Every meat is fork tender, fall off the bone and delicious. Every side is stellar as well, namely the Brunswick Stew! The thing Sandfly does best, and certainly integral to good BBQ, is the sauce. They have 3 on every table and each is wonderful but their signature mustard sauce is down right drinkable. Everyone wants to discover a gem in the rough. I mean its adream to find a BBQ joint in Sandfly Georgia at the end of a little ole shopping center that has BBQ as good as here. These guys here just know how to do it. Nothing super fancy, but put on your Blue Suede Shoes, and enjoy some of the best tasting Pulled Pork anywhere, and the Elvis Memorabilia all over the walls! read more

We were in Savanah for a weekend but the reviews made us take some time to stop and eat here...so happy we did! Small and casual, just the way a locally owned bbq shop should be. Drove 25 minutes out of our way to come here on our way to Florida (family road trip.) Heard about it through Yelp and decided to give it a try. This was the first bbq joint we visited in Savannah. The sweet tea is delicious, the fried okra, brisket, ribs, bbq chicken was yummy. The waitress was very friendly and welcoming. When we drove up and I saw the diner I almost changed my mind. It appeared run down. The interior is very small. If I left it would have been a Big Mistake! I've eaten BBQ all over the world. I like Georgia BBQ the best, which has a vinegar pepper tomato sauce. Just moved to Savannah and the BBQ i've eaten here has been poor with the exception of Wylies, which is ripoff expensive. This place serves among the best BBQ I have had, and in an interesting way. Their rub is distinctive and you can tell how it flavors the meat. Their sauces - a Georgia sauce and a South Carolina mustard based sauce - has fire and kick to it. I took home a pound and a half of each of pork, brisket, and boneless chicken and the family (3 people total) went through it in 24 hours. That's how good it is. I think their french fries are superb. Someone complained about them being soggy. They seem that way because they are fresh - cut to order - and they are crisp and taste like potatos if you consume them in the restaurant. To preserve a fry longer than that, you have to blanch them - soak them in brine, not a good thing - and I'm glad Sandfly doesn't. French fries aren't healthy, but they're worse than bad for your heart if they are soaked in brine. GO HERE GO HERE GO HERE read more

Would definitely recommend this place. I got the 6-ribs plate with fries and baked beans (and onion rings). The ribs were top class, excellent with or without sauce. Onion rings very good. On the downside, the baked beans and fries were just satisfactory, and I only liked one of the sauces, but maybe that's because I'm not a huge fan of vinegar or mustard-based sauces (liked the Memphis style sauce). Oh and the sand gnats were a pain in the a$$ - had to sit inside. But that worked out well coz this place has great décor - classic rock memorabilia - right up my street! read more

A terrific meal in a lovely part of the South. I have been traveling the world on business since the early part of the 1980's, and I have had many memorable and noteworthy meals on 5 continents in all manner of milieu. Given my status as CEO and founder of my Long Island based logistics operation, I am accustomed to eating the finest, freshest, and most expertly prepared meals available, regardless of cost. On a recent talent scouting trip to Savannah, I developed a hankering for some authentic bar-be-que'd style food. A nice local young man directed my driver to Sandfly BBQ. I could not have bee more surprised to see that this modest little establishment was located in a strip mall, next to a pilates operation and across the street from a British Petroleum gas station. Upon entry however, I immediately felt at home. The kitschy license plates on the wall and references to the late great Elvis Presley brought a smile to my face as the lovely proprietor (who's name I unfortunately didn't catch) asked to take my order. "Impress me" I said. She smiled and winked and said "I've got just the thing for the likes of a man of your stature". She handed me a large cup of sweet tea and led me to a comfortable picnic-style bench on the veranda. After a short wait, and a few sips of the delicious sweet tea, she placed in front of me a bowl of some colorful, stewed substance I later found out to be "Brunswick Stew". What a splendid dish this was! Complex flavors with a deeply bold mouthfeel and tremendously smooth finish. A great start! Next, she put on offer a platter of rich, earthy, gloriously hued meats from both porcine and bovine origin. She suggested I try these items with one or all of the variety of lovely sauces available and I did as such. I focused first on the rib section of the animal. The flesh fell from the bone as simply and gently as blowing the seeds off of a dandelion seed head. Effortless consumption with sublime flavor. I nibbled on the slice of "Texas Toast" which was evidently given gratis, as I don't recall ordering anything by this name, and was pleasantly surprised by the gentle buttery crunch and very satisfying mouthfeel. The simplicity of this dish made me smile a second time. I continued with the various accompaniments, and additional meat offerings as they were presented to me and each dish did not fail to impress. After a good 90 minutes of bar-be-que'd culinary bliss, I had finished my meal. I complimented the proprietor, gave her my business card, and relayed to her my experiences eating gourmet meals across the world. She blushed naturally, and I asked if I could give her a small kiss on the cheek as an offering of my gratitude for the lovely meal I was just presented with. She obliged and I smiled a third time. I got back into my Mercedes and instructed my driver to take me back to my hotel... and to do one more thing. To mark this little gem of a restaurant, "Sandfly BBQ" in my rolodex! I would rank this right up there with Johri's Talvo in St. Moritz and Jaan at the Swissotel in Singapore. I would recommend it to anyone. Thank you. read more

Delicious delicious bbq. When I go bbq I go for the brisket. It was perfect here. We were driving from Florida to North Carolina, and drove out of our way twice to stop in here for lunch. Damn! So good. The brisket is tender and juicy and the bbq sauces just go so well with it. The sides I had were great as well. Mac n cheese of course and fries. My girlfriend found this place through fellow Yelpers and scheduled this on our extended Labor Day weekend. Due to the positive reviews of their Brunswick Stew, we knew we had to take the trip from Downtown Historic Savannah to grab some dinner here. Needless to say, the reviews on yelp were spot on and their Brunswick Stew did not disappoint. Prior to this visit, she's been craving Brunswick Stew since leaving North Carolina a few years ago - and she's been looking for her fix. I'm impartial to Brunswick stew - and Sandfly's version was definitely full of flavor (she concurs). I had the Hog Wild Platter and my girlfriend had the beef and pork combo platter. Each bite of my platter mixed with their 3 homemade BBQ sauces (I'm a dipper) was like a party in my mouth and everybody was invited. Since our hotel didn't have a fridge, we decided not to take extra stew to go this day and to come back before we left town. We are now kicking ourselves because we forgot the possibility that Sandfly BBQ was going to be closed on Labor Day. Damn! This place will definitely be on our itinerary the next time we visit Savannah!! read more

Our favorite bbq spot in town!! The pulled chicken and pork are amazing and my husband loves the ribs. The potato salad is to die for and we love the baked beans and green beans. The sauce has a spicy kick to it, so it might be to hot for some but they serve it in the side which is nice. Made a mistake of trying someone else this weekend who was raved about in magazines, big disappointment, so we will be sticking with our go to, Sandfly BBQ! read more

This is a little hole-in-the-wall spot. When we went 2 weeks ago it there were some really annoying parents and children, but I guess that can't be avoided. The BBQ here is great. Get the sausage plate, it is so so so so good. My gentleman friend had the brisket, also top-notch. The mustard sauce is really good, so is the spicy sauce. BBQ is not my fav although I am growing to appreciate it more and more, this is by far my favorite BBQ place I have been to ever. read more

I'm from California visiting my kids. Being in the south I was really craving some brisket. While they were in school I decided to check out a local BBQ joint. Sandfly was one of the places that came up first and the positive reviews sold me. I ordered the beef brisket and pulled pork plate with coleslaw and potato salad. The GF got the ribs. Oh man ill tell you what, the reviews are all spot on. I cut into the brisket and it immediately fell apart. It basically disintegrated in my mouth it was so tender, no sauce required. The fat and rub they use is flavorful enough. The pulled pork was also very tender, moist and flavorful. I used two (the third being bbq sauce) of the sauces that are at each table one being a more watery vinegar based sauce and the other being a thicker sauce both of which are very good. The slaw and potato salad were both on point with the potato salad being my favorite of the two. It also came with a slice of Texas toast. All this for about $12. I was definitely full after and very satisfied. BTW I did take a bite of my woman's ribs and those too were very good. Their seasoning is excellent and the rib meat was moist and practically fell off of the bone. She very much enjoyed them. We plan on heading back this week to try the Brunswick stew which I believe had chicken, pork and beef in it. I also want some more of that delicious brisket. Don't see it much in Cali so I want to get my fill while I'm here. Update: Came back a few days later. Ordered the Brunswick stew and the pulled chicken salad with BBQ ranch dressing. Again, another solid effort by Sandfly. The chicken on the salad was perfect, not dry in the slightest and fell apart when I went to stab it with my fork. Overall, the salad was delicious and the dressing fantastic. Next, the stew was filled with a copious amount of very tender meat in a slightly spicy soup. There were also tomatoes, Lima beans and corn in the stew which was rather minimal but very hearty and filling. The meat alone makes this stew what it is and there is a lot of it. Would recommend trying at least once if anything. Definitely eat here if you love BBQ like I do. read more

I was born and raised in Savannah and have travelled around to sample a lot of BBQ. In Savannah, my preference has always been Johnny Harris because of their historic vinegar based sauce. However, today Sandfly BBQ has officially debunked them on my list for darned good reason. The pulled pork is just perfect. The smoked flavor is dominant but not overwhelming and the meat is extraordinarily tender. And it is remarkably not greasy or heavy. I'm super impressed. If all you want is meat, this is the place to be. Onion rings were too salty though. And it'd be great to have less fluid in the slaw. But this is a solid place for world class BBQ. read more

Words cannot describe how amazing the BBQ is at this place. This is how I've always imagined southern BBQ to be. The ribs were spectacular, the best sauced rib I've ever eaten. The ribs were spiced and sauced to perfection. The sides were all awesome. The onion rings were perfection, the potato salad was excellent. I read another review that said the mac and cheese was overcooked, it may have been but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Brunswick stew tasted fresh and flavorful. The green beans were amazing. I don't have even the slightest complaint about anything I tried. We drove out of our way to go here and it was well worth it! I wish somewhere had this great of BBQ in Michigan. Don't miss this place! Come early though, we came at 7pm on a Thursday and I got the last of the ribs for the day. read more
