Sandbar Rooftop has been one of my go-to rooftop bars in recent years. It's on top of a Hilton hotel, with a cool, beachy vibe with amazing views of the Empire State Building. It's the perfect spot to come with a group of friends on a nice, warm evening out. The weather's been up and down recently, though, but even with undesirable weather, they have coverings, so it's been ok. I just went again last month with a group of friends for reunion drinks and we had a great time catching up. The Summer Spritzes ($18+ each) were good and similar in terms of price range to cocktails at other rooftop bars in the city. The service wasn't the most attentive and I think we would've ordered more if they'd come around more. I do love the atmosphere and hope to be back again soon. read more

Torn about this review. So the pros: the guy who seats you is accommodating, respectful and kind. The place is very nicely decorated and charming. The waitresses are very friendly and attentive as much as they can even tho it's busy. Why I would probably not go back: 1. Food selection was LACKING. We hosted a birthday party here initially reserving for 15 people but about 25 people ended up coming and there were no issues with accommodating the additional headcount. The staff made it work and gave us a massive space. The space was everything that I was looking for (1) a rooftop (2) no reservation fee for large parties (3) feels like a private party (4) vibes. I made the reservation online and added a package for champagne and sparklers plus a small cake. It cost about $80 which was worth it imo. The cost of the package was netted from the final bill, so essentially it was "free". We chose the side that had the "good vibes" sign and took up the entire area. The only qualm I had was that this was a table service spot and while there was a bar in the middle, there are no bar tabs allowed. So everything fell under my card and yup you can imagine it was pricey. There was enough sitting and standing room that made it perfect for a bunch of people to talk, eat and be comfortable. We ordered a few food items but unfortunately didn't get to try the food since we were entertaining but I heard it was good. There were two restrooms and they were both clean and spacious. What a fun bar! They have a beach chic decor, which ties in nicely as a summer theme. They did not have happy hour, but most cocktails were around $18-19. They do have food on the menu. I tried the margarita pizza, which you can share with at least 2 people. I liked the pizza (8/10) because the crust was soft and flavorful. I tried the Magic Hour and the Bowrider. My favorite drink was the Bowrider. It was a spin on a Mai Thai, but it had great flavor if you like tropical drinks. The Magic Hour was also really tasty. The bar and the weather was nice but still a bit warm with the I imagine this bar is even better when the weather is nice and cool to open the roof, but we expected the music to be a bit louder not that quiet to the point we can hear others conversations but still we had a great time. I loved the ambiance of the bar! It's at a top of a hotel, and the theme of the entire bar is the beach. There are various seating areas, with creative twists. First of all to get to the bar itself was very confusing. We didn't see the elevator that had a sandbar sign so we took a different elevator and it didn't go the rooftop. So, i think only the last elevator that has a sandbar sign goes to the rooftop. When you make a reservation they charge $25/guest and they use that money to your bill, so i think you have to get food or drinks worth $25/guest and they also give you a limited seating time. This place is very small. In videos it looked like a big place with open space, but there was no good view. It is surrounded by buildings, but you can see empire state building. This place has a beach vibes and one area has a 4 swings where you can seat and have a drink. Service is very bad i must say. Servers were very slow and if you ask them something, they start making faces. We asked for water which we never recieved. They are very slow. Drinks were okay. Two of my friends got same drinks but one tasted like juice and other one you can taste the alcohol. There is no consistency. Food was good. The portion for tuna was very little. Sigh! I saw this place online prior to visiting NY and from what I gathered, I couldn't wait to visit. It didn't take long for me to regret my decision. Long story long..hear me out: when I arrived, they initially told me they only had high top tables, with no chairs, since I didn't make a reservation. I would have preferred to sit, but cool. They then realized that there was seating available on the patio. They took me to my seat and I assume they forgot about me. After about 15-20 minutes, I went to the bar and let them know that no one came back to ask me what I'd like to order. I ordered my drinks there, then went back to my table to wait for them to bring them to me. They brought the drinks and ONCE AGAIN forgot about me! After once again waiting for over an hour this time , I took it upon my self to find someone to give me my check. Unacceptable! Luckily, the drinks were delicious and the views were absolutely amazing. I could have sat there all night just to look at all the buildings. The bar was also decorated super cute. Honestly, I felt like this place was overrated. I went on a Sunday night since I have been staying at the Hilton and wanted to check it out. The drinks are all around $20, which feels normal for NYC and normal for a hotel bar. However, this drink did not live up to my expectations, and even if it had been half the price, I still would not have been pleased. I felt like the service for a Sunday night was also quite underrated. I went by myself and it was about thirty minutes before I was able to get my first drink. I think they were understaffed as I saw the server literally running. It felt like it was very difficult to get attention too. It was not a pleasant night weather-wise either, so there was no outdoor ambiance either. It was actually uncomfortably warm in the bar. Overall, I was not too pleased with the experience. We were looking for a rooftop to go to after dinner and came across sandbar. We didn't have a reservation but for a party of 4 we were still seated right away on a weeknight. Since it's an outdoor rooftop weather will obviously effect the experience. For us it was so hot outside and there weren't any fans or air blowing to help cool it down. Instead the various lights and candles used throughout made it seem even hotter than down on the street. I ordered the ocean road drink which was similar to Moscow mule ingredients. It was very tangy from the passion fruit on top of the ginger beer, but not bad overall. We also ordered the s'mores for the table. I've been to Sandbar Rooftop a couple times now. They've pretty much been consistent in their service both times. That's a good thing and a bad thing as you'll see. Their COVID-19 precautions were great. They kept all of the parties well separated. It helps that they're obviously open-air when the weather permits. They provided hand sanitizer at each table as well. This is of major importance and they did that well. The waitresses were STELLAR each time. They were attentive, genuinely pleasant and very accommodating. So kudos to them for positively adding to the experience. As far as food and drink goes, their menu changed slightly between the first time I visited and the second time. I remember having the "Ditch Plains" cocktail both times and the ingredients and presentation had changed. Both were still good though. I'd also recommend the "Ocean Road" (Vodka, Passion Fruit, Lime, Ginger Beer, Candied Ginger). On my second trip to Sandbar, I was with a larger group so we sampled a lot more of the food including the picnic tasting board, the pinsa/pizza (Margherita, Spicy Sopressata and Vegan) and the antipasto. It was all great! You're probably wondering what went wrong. I'll try to explain: They're very strict with their reservation/table times. That's not an issue in and of itself. The issue is that there is no area to continue the visit if you would like to stay longer. You can't hang out by the bar nor is there any other "lounge" area. So when you're time is up, you're summarily kicked out. We tried speaking with gentlemen in blazers (managers?) but they wouldn't accommodate further time. It didn't help that they were a little cold/curt in speaking with us. That same coldness was felt on both visits in the end and the reason I pulled a star. Bottom Line: Go and visit! It's a little expensive but for the most part it's worth it. I recommend heading through in the summer. read more

Very fun and trendy spot! This rooftop is right at the top of the Hilton Hotel, it opens up to a pretty expansive area with nice wooden benches and fluffy couches. We got the s'mores experience because it seems fun to roast marshmallows on a rooftop bar. Our experience also came with a drink each. The s'mores experience came with a set of Graham crackers, chocolate, and 6 marshmallows on a stick - we roasted 3 each. When we were down to our last marshmallow we realized we had a bunch of crackers and chocolate left. We asked the service staff if we could get more marshmallows and they said that each service only came with the preset number of marshmallows. It's a bit annoying to me because you can literally get a bag of them for $3. I would've been willing to pay $5 for a bowl of like 6 more marshmallows so this policy seems a bit ridiculous to me. Overall, fun gimmick to try once but it cost of $80 for a drink and 6 marshmallows so not sure if the cost is worth doing it a second time. read more

Sandbar had great views and good drinks. We came here for the views and to check it out since it had not been open when we were here in February of 2020. It opened in March of 2020. Please make a note that it has a retractable roof, so it was warm with a view so that it may be enjoyed any time of the year. It has a beach-themed menu. We had just eaten dinner, so we did not check out the food menu but the drink menu. I had the windbreaker. It was similar to a spicy margarita, but it was pink. I wish I knew what made it pink as I would try to recreate it. My hubby got a glass of Chardonnay since they were out of rose. The seats were comfy, but I wish the benches faced the view. Our seats were cute and fine but not as comfortable as the couch on the wall. There are four very low swings, not meant to swing, in the center, and we went and sat on them for a photo, but it was too dark for a good picture. read more

Lots of space to sit with friends and there's even a fully retractable roof, so you can still come here when it gets really cold! They do reservations here with a minimum spend of $25 per person. Drinks were superbly made, I had an old fashioned. Their cocktails are on the pricier side - ie. $18-$20 per drink so beware of that. We also got two pizzas - mushroom truffle and prosciutto. I loved the prosciutto pizza! Very delicious, the breading was thin and crisp, and the arugula and tomato was very fresh. The tomato sauce is incredible, was honestly pleasantly surprised. Came here with a group of friends to check out this new rooftop bar I've been seeing popping up all over IG. You have to book a reservation in advance and prepay $25 per person, which goes towards drinks and food. We were allotted 2 hours, which was plenty of time for us to enjoy ourselves. Thanks for the reservation system, the place is not crowded at all, but every table is essentially filled. It is a super beachy vibe, some people compared it to the Hamptons. Never been out there so I can't say. Comfortable furnishings, got some swings, definitely super IGable. Drink-wise, their special cocktails run for about $18-$20. I was disappointed in the size for mine for what I'm paying for, but I guess that's Manhattan price for ya. A regular wells drinks will run about $15, which is more of the standard city price. Beers go for about $10, standard also. Food-wise, we shared two flatbreads. We ordered the Wild Mushroom and the Prosciutto Mozzarella. I am definitely a fan of the Wild Mushroom, and that's probably because there's truffle oil all over it. Overall, I'm a fan of this spot.
