Really liked this as post work spot. Came here with a friend for the HH "happy meal". The martini was great and food was good, but it's teeny portions (not sure what I expected). We ordered a few other things: - artichoke dip: my fav thing of the night - fish sliders: not my fav I really liked the vibe and how even though there was a work event going on at the same time it wasn't overly loud. Our server was super helpful and ended up giving us a round of drinks due to kitchen delays which didn't bother me one bit. Would recommend checking out if you're in the area and want a spot to gossip with a coworker or if you're ticking off martini bars in the city. Do you want to go to a basement lounge-style bar? Well then Spygold is the one for you. It is beneath the restaurant you enter; go down a few flights of stairs, and you will hit Spygold. Stopped in for cocktails before our dinner reservation one block over. This proved to be an amazing find. It was a Saturday night and we didn't have reservations. The front desk upstairs made it seem like it was booked but when we went downstairs there was plenty of capacity. We were warmly greeted and seated in a quiet corner. The atmosphere is cozy, romantic and moody. I highly recommend the freezer martinis. This was the very best martini I've ever had. Probably bc I practically made it myself - LOL They bring it to you deconstructed and instruct you on how to put it all together so the experience added to it. We'll definitely be back! read more

It was empty when we arrived a little after 5 pm a Friday but more people filtered in including a musician who was setting up for live music. The waiter was very helpful with recommendations and I ordered a pear martini which was tasty. It was tiny but that is expected at a cocktail bar like this. My friend had the happy meal which included a slider, fries, and 50/50 Belvedere martini. Martini itself was filled with a lot of vermouth but slider was good. The hidden gem on the menu was the freezer Manhattan martini. Essentially this is like a build your own journey with many different options to create your own drink. I stopped in after work on a weekday. I actually found the spot via a search for Speakeasies. The photos online looked pretty good so I decided to give it a try. When I arrived at the door, the outer doors had a sign that said to go through the neighboring restaurant's doors (Greywind?). I didn't mind that considering I was looking for speakeasy vibes. I'll take a nice passageway even if it isn't a "secret passageway." So anyway, I go down and around through Greywind. I was pleasantly greeted by the waitstaff. I liked the vibe and decor of the space. I was even Shazaming the tunes that were playing. The music wasn't too loud and the beats per minute (BPM) weren't too fast, but they had good bass and beats. The mirrors and lighting were great ambient touches. I had a solo reservation and was given a small table by the wall. I'm always a little worried about being slightly forgotten when dining alone, but kudos to the staff in that they were super attentive and always at the ready. It's the reason I gave Spygold five (5) stars. As far as food and drink go, I tried two (2) cocktails. The first the "Lemon Drop" (St. George Citrus Vodka, Meyer Lemon Infused Cocchi, Americano) was cool and refreshing. The second the "Bee's Knees" (Fennel Pollen Infused Barr Hill Tomcat Gin, Vermont Honey, Amaro Nonino, lemon) was very tasty and not too sweet. The "Bee's Knees" seemed to be a popular choice among staff and patrons alike. The only food I ordered was their variation on the "Chicken Nuggets." I have to be honest, that was probably a tactical error on my part. They took a little while to come out and then inner meat wasn't as flavorful as I would've expected. Though the breading was crunchy and tasted great, it wasn't enough to makeup for the inner workings of the nuggets. So choose anything but the nuggets and you might feel a little better about things. While I tried to figure out what they did to the nuggets, I should note that my second drink arrived with just a small, negligible amount of drip on the side. The waiter took that to be less than perfect and actually wiped the base of the glass to clear that up. I don't think I've ever seen that table-side and it was enough to compensate for the nuggets. Bottom line: If you need a place to have a clandestine meeting, somewhere with solid cocktails and dim lights (like in the movies), this is a good place to start. Short Review: Comfortable speakeasy in the basement of the Greywind Restaurant. Good drinks. Long Review: Needed to find a place to have pre-dinner happy hour for a business meeting and came here. It comfortably fits up to 10 people in a section of the place, but otherwise seating is for small or single parties. Grab a reservation, though, because you're not guaranteed a seat otherwise. Waiter was attentive, but a little pushy. A couple of us were standing and chatting away from the seated area and he hastily told us to go sit where our party was. Then, towards the end of our visit, he walked over and said that he had a reservation and to wrap it up soon. It was a bit rude and with little foresight because we would have ordered another round. The drinks were really good. I ordered something off the menu and it turned out great. Everyone in the party was satisfied with their drinks too. Besides the less-than-friendly service, I thought it was a great place to relax and unwind at the end of the day. I would come back, in hopes that the service was relegated to that individual and not how they run the joint. read more

Poor experience here. Came to have dinner at Greywind with friends and wanted to check out Spygold before. Upon arriving I was told that they were fully booked up and to have a seat at Greywind 's bar. While sitting at the bar I decided to check availability for Spygold and it turns out they had availability at 6pm for bar stools and lounge tables. I absolutely hate when places behave like this. To make matters worse hen I challenged a manager on this I was told oh it's a glitch on our reservation system . This is a terrible answer as it makes me lose faith in making a reservation. It's not that Spygold is bad. It just doesn't live up to any level of expectation. Touted as a neaue speakeasy, it is the basement cocktail lounge of the restaurant Greywind. And while there is a separate door, at some hours of service, it is closed and you have to cut through the restaurant and follow the path of patrons looking for the restrooms. The cocktail lounge is designed to have a high-end appearance and while it succeeds there, I'm not certain that's much more than aesthetics than actual character. A very thorough alcohol list does offer plenty of options and I'd say maybe better to just take your favorite nice liquor on the rocks than one of their cocktails, which were perfectly lovely but really offered little more depth than an average mixologist's work. All in all, Spygold is perfectly serviceable, but for speakeasy lounge or high-end cocktails, there's plenty of better options in the city. read more
