Outsides are not impressive but inside is very clean, food is great and the service was exceptional. I will definetly make it a point to eat there again when i am in town.

It's located just off of the lobby, within the Holiday Inn hotel's ground floor. I therefore stopped by for a late lunch under the auspices of the high recommendation of this eatery. When I walked in, I was greeted by a nice lady who ended up becoming my waitress. She was patient, helpful, and seemed happy. It made for a calm a pleasant meal. The restaurant isn't too terribly large, and looks just like a typical, nondescript, hotel restaurant. The ambience was calm, with the four televisions located behind the bar silenced (gratefully), but with the closed captioning turned on. One of the TV-s very appropriately was tuned-in to The Food Network. For an appetizer, I decided upon the breaded/fried shiitake mushrooms. OMG, they were so delicious. I was given the option of jalapeño ranch dipping sauce or plain ranch. I initially thought that I wouldn't need any sauce, but accepted the plain version. It turned out that the ranch paired perfectly with the mushrooms. I suspect that the sauce was probably homemade. While leisurely munching on my delicious mushrooms, my main entree arrived. It was the cavatappi alfredo pasta, with crispy on top chicken that I ordered. The serving size was enough for two people. It was SO scrumptious. The pasta was perfectly cooked. The delicious alfredo sauce was obviously hand-made by the chef. My waitress confirmed that fact. It came with two pieces of bread topped with toasted cheese. I was surprised and impressed with the awesome food and service that I received from a hotel bar and grill. What a hidden gem. The sole negative thing about this place were the flies flying around my table from time to time. It became annoying. The waitress mentioned that she'd unsuccessfully tried to kill the flies. So was I. They need to buy a fly swatter and use it. Anyhow, I really recommend the food here. I will very likely return. Four and a half stars, rounded down to four, because of the flies.

The food however was honestly meh (in my opinion). I got a creole dish and to be fair my dish looked beautiful. The plating was 10/10 but the taste for me left something to be desired. After eating this dish I questioned if I even like creole sauce because it really just wasn't that good. If this is a preference issue, I honestly don't know. I also thought the charcuterie appetizer had a weird mix of items on it from club crackers, to meat and cheese, and random veggies. Not bad but just kind of a weird mix. My husband ordered the salmon and he said it was good, not the best he's had but it was good. Other friends of ours got the white fish among the many other dishes. I did have a salad with these apples on it which was incredibly yummy. I will say though my dish looked amazing some of the other dishes were not plated well. Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!

Today I ordered the lunch special: pulled pork barbecue with fresh homemade coleslaw, crispy French fries, and a Dr Pepper. Everything was delicious, fresh, and exactly what I was hoping for. I had the pleasure of meeting Kenzie, who provided excellent service, and the manager, Cory, who was friendly and welcoming. I learned that Kenzie makes all of the restaurant's homemade fried pies. Cory recommended the chocolate fried pie as one of his favorites, and after trying it, I completely agree--it was absolutely outstanding and the perfect way to finish the meal. The restaurant itself is older and a bit dated, but it is clean, well-maintained, and has a warm, hometown atmosphere. During my visit, there were plenty of locals dining in, and I noticed a steady stream of customers picking up to-go orders, which says a lot about the quality of the food. I have high standards when it comes to food, customer service, and cleanliness, and I'm happy to say this restaurant met every one of them. If you're looking for authentic barbecue and friendly service, I highly recommend giving this place a try. It's definitely worth the drive. John Lobato, DIT

On this day of the week (Wednesday), the restaurant featured their fried chicken. A local resident had strongly and repeatedly recommended Mae's food. My friend and I both ordered the fried chicken. I'm sure glad that I did! It was perfectly breaded, seasoned, and cooked. We were given our choice of cut, and we both chose chicken breasts. It was nicely-sized and fresh. I would definitely recommend it, and I would order it again. For side items, the collard greens, sweet potatoes, and blackeye(d) peas were all delicious and properly prepared. I ate every last bit, especially since the portion sizes were a bit too small. I would suppose that tiny portions dramatically reduce food waste. The square of cornbread was quite welcomed. I had also heard that Mae's cooks up some delicious pork chops (on Thursdays) and meatloaf (some Fridays). I look forward to trying those as well. The building doesn't have central air conditioning, but rather a series of window units. During the height of summer, it can get uncomfortably hot inside the restaurant, so they do a lot of take out business. If you want to eat inside, be sure to pick a cool/cloudy day. Also, the parking situation is a bit chaotic, with no designated spaces marked out. It's kind of a free-for-all. The safest bet is to backup into an open spot, just for better visibility when you leave. I made the mistake of parking head-in. It took me forever to back out. The street that runs in front of the restaurant is full of fast and careless drivers. Be sure to take some cash with you, because this place doesn't accept any credit or debit cards.

The Bistro serves classic American fare and is known locally for it's collection of Craft Beers. The last time I ate here I the hotel was ungoing renovations and we had to eat in one of the conference rooms. Now that the Bistro and the hotel are renovated, I choodse to eat here again. One of my favourite starters at the Bistro is their Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp which I have had countless times. As always it was cooked just right without overcooking the shrimp. For my Mian course I had a grilled 'Chipotle' PorkChop from the new menu. This 14 oz. bone -in Pork chop Chipotle Pork Chop is served frenched and seasoned with chipotle rub then rubbed with creamy bacon and mango sauce and served with herb rice & vegetable du jour. This is a huge meal but worth every penny and a nice change from having barbecue, fish or steak which are my goto's when I travel. The Chop was cooked medium-well but still tender and a bright pink in the center. The cmbined flavours make this a dish I will try again when I'm in the area next.
