Making this my new go to sushi spot! I recently moved to the area from the marina and have been looking to explore new restaurants. We went to Sancha on a Friday night around 7pm and were seated immediately. The dark rooms with bright neon lightning give a nice chill night out vibe. Perfect for dinner with friends or a casual date night. I got chives- 5/5!!!! I saw pictures of this on Yelp and it looked so delicious I had to order it. One of the best dishes of the night for sure! The fish is so thick and fatty. It's on the saltier side because of the salt block, but it felt very fitting for this dish Scallop tofu pocket- 5/5!!! I've never had a tofu pocket before and this might be one of my new favorite dishes. There was a perfect balance of scallop, rice, and tofu in every bite Mom's right roll- 5/5 a super filling roll with a burst of flavor in every bite. 8 piece omakase nigiri- 5/5 they're very generous with their fish portions and I LOVE it Waitstaff is wonderful as well! We wanted to sit longer and digest with our tea, but there was a reservation waiting for our table. They asked if we could drink our tea in their pool/ ping pong room which we did not mind at all because it was such a cute space! Seems like it might be under utilized though as it's in the back, and there's a sign that says it's for guests who are waiting for their tables. Overall a fantastic experience with delicious sushi. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu!
Great experience - it's a hole in the wall with a neon "vegan sushi" sign, really close to the bus stop. It's cozy and warm, where you order at the front (no cash, no tip) and you can even grab a drink from the fridge to order. Then you choose a seat of your choosing for them to bring it out. We as a group of 4 got three vegan rolls and 4 tofu pockets, which was the perfect amount. We wanted a variety of vegan options, so this place was perfect for us. The staff was so nice, bringing us hot tea and extra soy sauce. They brought everything out fast. Note: When we went for dinner on Saturday, the menu seems to change as it's a much smaller selection from previous menu pics online. Only rolls, bowls and appetizers. No okamase or nigiri options. It's possible that might still be available to order if you ask! :) FOOD - Vegan rainbow roll - Vegan Golden Gate - Vegan Pass the Dutchie - Vegan tuna pockets (comes in two)
5 stars? No. TEN STARS!! This place is definitely a gem and surprised me on all basis. With a small, dark, moody interior-- this place is serving the most vibrant, tantalizing, and unique rolls. I tried the Ume Shisho roll which was clearly marked for expert eaters -- and it was true. This roll is extremely sour and minty and isn't for those who don't like those flavors. I also tried the Chefs Choice Roll and got surprised by a HUGE mysterious, delicious, and crunchy roll. This place is just one of those that you have to trust the stars and try for yourself.
$32 for 8 piece sushi seems like a good value. Salmon, Maguro, Toro, Hamachi, Walu, Uni, Ankimono and Albacore. I loved the ankimono. The uni was very nice. The yellowtail was smooth and flavorful, the butterfish very smoky and very buttery. The tuna, salmon, and albacore were typical "sushi", as expected, nothing more. Same with the salmon avocado roll. (I found the rice a bit gummy.) TBH, I probably wouldn't come back here, as I don't live in the neighborhood and all the sushi felt kind of average/typical quality to me -- nothing special. But it was filling, hit the spot at the right time, and the server was extremely friendly. And I love when an Omakase menu puts on more unusual pieces like uni and ankimono. So perhaps give it a try?
The PERFECTTTTT spot for a large group dinner, plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans, and a really fun spot!! I went there for my birthday dinner and they gave us the two back rooms so we had a private dinner! There was even a backdrop and photo booth set up. There was a pool table in the back room that we could use as well. This was a very nice surprise as we didn't ask for it, but if you have a large party they will likely put you here! The food was SOOOOO GOOD TOO. I am vegetarian so I really enjoyed having so many options to chose from - they had an entire vegan menu separate. They also have a regular menu. Their liger roll is lit up with fire and super popular - it is very saucy snd everyone loved it. For the vegans, I loooooved their daniel san! I was not a huge fan of the rainbow roll but everything else was delicious. Presentation and service were fantastic. We had an amazing time. I can't wait to be back, I need to try the vegan tuna!!!
Happened upon this quaint little restaurant while looking for food in the area. I wasn't too sure what to expect due to the few reviews. My friend and I ordered the 49'ers and the Mom's Right rolls. They were both priced very appropriately in my opinion, and were quite large and filling. The 49'ers tasted fresh and had generous amounts of salmon, while the mom's right roll was rich and buttery. Both were delicious in different ways, and definitely satisfied our sushi craving. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive and there was even a pool table in the back! Would definitely return if I am ever in the area.
Recently got to try their sushi and it was pretty good (not my favorite though). They have 3 full pages of vegan/ vegetarian dishes. We ordered sweet potato pocket, vegan rainbow roll and lox roll. Everything tasted delicious but I found both sushi rolls we ordered to be pretty much similar tasting. The service was nice and quick! Ambiance was nice too! The main dining area leads to a back area where they have a pool table and a ping pong table with lounge setting and some video games. Kind of felt like a little hidden secret room. We went during lunch hours and there was not much rush!
Sancha Sushi is one of my favorite family owned Japanese restaurants! They have sushi AND vegan sushi! As a sushi fan, both are immensely tasty and filled with flavor. I'm allergic to crab (sad, I know!) but luckily this place is able to satiate my crabby cravings. Food - I ordered 1) 49ers Roll $19 that comes with king salmon, avocado, Fuji apple, onion chips for crunch topped with lemon zest, sesame seed and house ponzu olive oil blend (wow!). The lemon zest definitely gives a fresh taste to the sushi. 2) Vegan Deep Fried Cali Roll $20 - again, I'm allergic to crab so this one excited me. I haven't had "real" crab in years, but the sushi was crunchy, filling, and seasoned well. Ambiance and setting was cozy and nice. They also have a separate room in the back to hang out and play games. Customer service was also excellent and attentive. Overall, portions are filling and great for its price. I am a regular customer here and I clearly enjoy the food and atmosphere. Would recommend this place to all people and it's great vegan people can also have the option to dine here.

Mom's right - I'm not a big fan of butterfish as it makes a sushi also taste like butter. It's an interesting, feels novel. 3. Liger roll - a little too saucy and just a lot going on. Food is amazing! We tried both vegan and non-vegan, everything was absolutely flavorful and textures hit just right. The whole place is an unexpected vibe. From the outside you'd think it's a small spot but once you step foot inside there are plenty of seats in the back. The lighting is dim and creates a comfortable atmosphere for a date night or group outing with friends. What's even more surprising is there is another area even further back, behind the bathrooms. There is a ping pong table, game sole, pool table and a couch. Nice lounge area to hang out and chill.
Great sushi restaurant with lots of vegan options! Although this is not an exclusive vegan spot they have a separate vegan menu! We ordered a little bit of everything and shared: Vegan tuna pocket - the vegan tuna was close to tuna in texture however it tasted bitter to me Vegan crab pocket - not bad but nothing mind blowing Vegan deep fried Cali roll - one of my favorites Vegan dragon roll - the sauce was on point Vegan rainbow roll - I think the top was pumpkin or some sort of mashed squash but I wasn't a fan The restaurant inside isn't crazy big but it's dim and has a cool vibe. Service was quick and friendly. Only issue I see is with parking since it's street parking only and it's right off of Market st.
The restaurant has a plethora of vegan options. The sushi was high quality, with fresh and great tasting fish. The butterfish sashimi appetizer was not worth the price. I would recommend steering towards their rolls for better value for money. (Tip: The "Mom's Right" roll has just as much butterfish as a topping, and is cheaper than the sashimi. If you want to try butterfish and like sushi rolls, I highly recommend it) Their vegan rolls are excellent. We tried both the "mountain" and "dragon". Both were filling and had delicious sauce on top. The dragon was our personal favorite. The rolls with fish (49ers and Moms Right) were really delicious as well, with generous portions of fresh fish. All-in per-person price: $40 (enough to cover 2 rolls per person) Fullness level: Really full Food quality: Great Atmosphere: Dim lighting, dark furniture, fairly loud and bustling din during the dinner rush (7:30 pm) Wait time: less than 10 minutes, but we got lucky and right as we sat down, a large line formed Service: Friendly, but could be more attentive I would definitely come here again to try more of their rolls!
It's such a joy to have found Sancha Sushi. As a vegan it's a struggle to find a place that has a cozy, and comfortable ambience. Excellent customer service! We ordered sushi. It was very good, we loved it! Good value, filling portions. We had a lot of fun playing at the ping pong and pool tables. We are coming back for more!

Look, this isn't the same sancha that we had just before their long excursion they took for the holidays (which by all means, well deserved) but it's sad to have seen it change so much in so little time! So I went yesterday with my guy, this is like the ultimate date spot for us, mind you...we come with high expectations and usually leave with those said expectations met. Yesterday was just sad, we came back to almost HALF or more than half of the menu just completely gone, most of their items now consist of either hamachi, walu, salmon or tuna...sure they have uni but no unagi?? seriously??! Anyway. They're counter service now, meaning no wait staff, everything is self service for the most part and it just had an empty new clean slate vibe. I don't know if I like this new version of sancha and it deeply saddens me because this was like the best sushi spot in the city for me. Does it still taste absolutely insane, yes, I quite thoroughly enjoyed my food but the cuts on every front just gave it a sad meager vibe. I don't know if I'll be back and if I will, it's going to be few and far between. read more

Where do I begin? It was my extended birthday weekend and I went to the city with friends for sushi and good time, and that's exactly what I got. The service was beyond amazing- from the greeting to seating - top notch customer service and selection was incredible very well rounded for vegans and sushi lovers alike. The space was perfect for small or large groups. There were 4 sections- including the sushi bar, dining seating, a ping pong table area and a separate pool table area with seating in the far back. We had the specialty rolls and they were all delicious and beautiful! What a treat and a great way to celebrate with friends or coworkers. If you are new to sushi or a sushi lover come try this place and see for yourself why I feel in love with the spot! I plan to return for more sushi and sake! Keep up the great work! read more

COVID-19 DELIVERY I *used* to 86 fusion sushi. A sushi roll with cheese, 3 different kinds of mayo, and sriracha...topped with fried tempura bits and jalapeno?! That's not sushi, yo! That's a hot mess AND heartburn waiting to happen. Ok, so those Americanized fusion-y rolls are still not my jam, nor will you find them at Sancha Sushi. What you will find is sushi that showcases good quality fish with a creative spin. I've been a fan of Chef Tamir since his Elephant Sushi days. He's since sold that brand and has gone on to open Pinche Sushi and now Sancha Sushi serving both traditional and fusion-style sushi. His creations with touches like basil oil, capers, wasabi chimichurri, truffle vinaigrette, fried onion chips, smoked black salt, etc. totally changed by mind about fusion sushi. When done right, it's delicious! Sancha Sushi's second location recently opened in the long-time Miyabi Sushi space in The Castro/Duboce Triangle. They're offering takeout, delivery (DoorDash), and indoor dining. M E N U Sashimi, Nigiri, Rolls (Traditional & Fusion), Hand Rolls, Poke, Sushi Burritos, BYO Chirashi, and Omakase. Vegetarian friendly. I'm not ready for indoor dining yet so I ordered something simple and delivery friendly (if I dined indoors, I would have went for the fusion items). Free DoorDash delivery until 6/30/2021. My order arrived in a reusable Sancha Sushi logo bag that was stapled shut. More wasabi please; only one tiny packet of wasabi was included. F O O D * BYO 3-Item Chirashi w/ half garden salad, half kelp sushi rice ($30) ***Protein choices: Sake, Hon Hamachi, Uni (depending on shipment, you may get Hokkaido, Santa Barbara or Humboldt Uni) ***Added Toro for $20 Generous slices of fresh, buttery sake and hamachi. The hokkaido uni was sweet and briny. A splurge but I'm glad I added the toro. It was soft, silky, and fatty (looks like it it was lightly torched). The salad, a mix of cucumbers, wakame, kelp, carrots, fried tofu skin, and greens was soggy, and the dressing drenched the sushi rice. But, that's the nature of delivery. I recommend going all rice if you're doing takeout or delivery. Overall, Sancha Sushi is a welcome addition to The Castro/Duboce Triangle area. If you're looking for solid sushi and/or sushi with a creative spin, give this new local business a try! read more

Sancha sushi is vegan / plant-based HEAVEN. Chef Tamir uses a vegan tuna from Impact Food that made every vegan dish taste so good. I had the cherry blossom roll, golden gate roll and the vegan avocado roll. We also tried togarashi tuna and the nigiris/sashimis. I also had the vegan royal wish cheese which my friend didn't like but I've been CRAVING a roll like this ever since I've gone vegan and this 100% hit the spot. Also, rolls are giant so bring a friend. read more
So yummy and such good value! Skip the rolls, the sashimi and fresh fish is what you should get! Some of the best tasting fish in SF! Big fan of their previous restaurant Pinche Sushi and was really sad when they closed...so glad they they still have the build your own Chirashi. Toro is so good here, a must get! For your non-fish friends, they also have a pretty extensive vegetarian/vegan menu. Street parking only, near busy Market Street. Would recommend public transportation or uber. read more

I looove sushi and it's been challenging finding vegan sushi since transitioning to a plant based diet. At Sancha Sushi they fulfilled EVERY sushi craving I had and then some! Everything was fresh and rolled to perfection. The staff was incredibly accommodating loved their customer service. Cozy spot for some vegan sushi. They got all the options too for both vegan and non vegan diets! read more

Food 5/5 - Everything tasted great and looked beautiful. The standout was the Golden Gate roll, made with plant-based tuna from Impact Food. our whole table loved it! Service 5/5 - They were extremely patient, attentive, and friendly! The food came out quickly and the server did an excellent job describing the rolls. Ambiance 5/5 - we were seated in a nice quiet nook for dinner, and there is a game room in the back--need I say more? read more

The place is very intimate, dim lighting and quiet but not too quiet you can't talk. The food was extremely fresh, best salmon I have had yet however the hamachi was my favorite! Will 100% be going back and seems family run read more

Food: 5/5 - presentation of the food beautiful - great taste - very fresh - great value for what you pay Chefs choice poke bowl: 5/5 - so so so good - amazing value for the price Hamachi Kama: 5/5 - tastes great - fresh - great value for the price Vibes: 5/5 - black interior - clean tables - they have a ping pong table and pool table in the back Staff: 5/5 - friendly staff - food came out fast Overall: - I'd 100% come again - I recommend TIPS: - order the grilled hamachi cheek (for $5, you have to get it) - chefs choice poke bowl was fantastic read more

I hardly ever leave reviews but this is very warranted! 1. Every time I pass by, it has always been closed so I was very lucky to see it open today while in the mood for an avocado roll. 2. As I mentioned above, I was just gonna get an avocado roll, as I am vegetarian however I saw that they had VEGAN SUSHI! I had to get two rolls. 3. Waitress was incredibly friendly and reciprocated my excitement towards the vegan sushi. 4. The Vegan Dragon Roll was phenomenal! The vegan royal cheese (or something like that?) was good too but the dragon roll is where it's at! read more
This is the spot, Periodt. I'm so happy to have found my local sushi spot that is so fresh and affordable!! Now that I know this is near the Duboce Triangle/Market area, I'll be craving sushi more. It was very fresh; the tuna melted in your mouth, the ginger wasn't that fake pink color, the specialty roll was a perfect combination of flavors. Check out these prices - you cannot beat these. Even if they were to increase, the convenience and kindness they served is worth it. Spicy Tuna - $5, a classic! My absolute favorite new sushi joint! This place is owned by the same owner of Elephant Sushi. I placed an order over the phone and the lady that helped answer all of my questions was amazing! I ordered the following rolls: spicy tuna, mom's, and the rainbow roll and honestly....all of the rolls are HUGE! One roll could fill me up and I normally would order 2-3 rolls elsewhere. The price per roll may seem expensive but the quality, size and flavor combination makes it all worth it. Do yourself a favor and check this place out, I promise you won't be disappointed! I added some photos but even the photos do not do it justice. Customer service, quality of each roll, flavor, and how huge the rolls are makes this place my go-to sushi place. Wow wow wow is my reaction to the vegan menu and I just had the BEST VEGAN ROLL OF MY LIFE! "The vegan royal with cheese" It's baked and packed with flavor and texture! I'm the most picky when it comes to vegan sushi and this roll blew my mind so I have to give credit where it's due. So this place is a bit pricy buuuut the rolls are huge. Order 2 before you go all out. They do not have tako or miso soup or udon. It's strictly sushi. The hand rolls are not the traditional conical hand rolls you're used to either. It's wrapped with thin rice paper instead seaweed. They do not have alcohol but will let you bring yours in. The market down the street sells alcohol. The decor is all over the place but the food is worth checking out! read more

The $20 chef's choice chirashi here is still a great deal. The chef's choice has changed since their opening months, when they set the bar really high. Rolls are awesome (Mom's right and JOB). Friendly staff as always. I didn't see the Hamachi Kama and blue crab hand rolls on their menu anymore. But they have a ton of vegan options. Including vegan tuna. read more

It was good. We went for like a late night munchie: We got the Dragon Roll and the Mr. herb Roll and they were really good. They have a lot of vegan options too, if desired. The service was also very nice and attentive. Would definitely go back. read more

I went right at opening on a Thursday night, and we were seated right away and the food came really quickly after ordering! The house special roll (liger roll) came out in a flaming pan that gave the roll a really creamy, baked texture. The unagi bowl had a pretty big portion size and was pretty flavorful and filling, and the Mr. Herb roll was crunchy with a teriyaki flavoring. No complaints! I really enjoyed all the flavors and am excited to come back! read more

This is my favorite sushi spot in San Francisco. The chef is truly an artist - the flavors super well balanced and the attention to detail is amazing. What I like the most of Sancha Sushi is the vast vegetarian and vegan options they provide!! read more
