I was a little apprehensive to come by at first as a young adult female knowing it was out of his garage, but as soon as I met him, I felt very comfortable with him. He was extremely kind, polite, and professional. Although it is out of his garage, there are frames hung all on the walls and it feels like an extremely professional environment. He measured went over options, and gave me a quote the same day. The quote seemed reasonable to me and I was extremely impressed by how they looked when I picked them up. Amazing value. When I picked them up, which was soon after I brought them in, he helped me carry them to my car and gently placed them in. We made an appointment with Mark and the time we spent with him went well, on the whole. Unfortunately, we don't care for the results of our large framed picture. We chose the first matte he tried for us, and he did show a few others, so I'm not sure it's really his fault (thus I'm not giving a lower rating). He also didn't have the style of frame that we asked for (we brought one to match) and we went with his suggested alternative, which we unfortunately don't care for too much either. We paid at the time we ordered the project and the price seemed substantial to us ($200++), but I'm not sure if it was a good value or not for the size of the project? It well might have been less than elsewhere, but not by much, I would think, if so?? We've had maybe 20 or more good-sized pieces of art framed over the years and have been happy with all of them in the past, so this was a surprising disappointment. But it could just be that we made a poor choice this time and has nothing to do with this business' abilities to help you choose what will be best for your piece. I guess my advice on picking a frame and matte for something large is to be very careful and don't rush yourself. read more

Mark has turned my children's artwork into picassos' with his framing skills. Two of the pieces were brought over from abroad with our move, and literally had been dragged around the world halfway. They had all kinds of creases and wrinkles on them. The other two pieces were brown paper my daughter painted on in preschool. He did excellent work with all four pieces, and really they look like expensive artwork now (these yelp pictures don't do them justice). We had very good experience with San Diego Custom Framing. We checked out five other places, but could not find a good match. Mark found solution for us that much larger companies could not and very creative one. He combined two different frames in one and it played very nicely with our art piece. We purchased a framed and matted Tony Bass print online. When the print arrive with shattered glass (courtesy of UPS), I called Mark at San Diego Custom Framing. He provided an immediate, reasonable bid to replace the broken glass and also to re-frame the print if we so desired. After a brief conversation with Mark we decided to re-frame. Two business days later our newly-framed print was ready for pickup. When we arrived, Mark informed us that the original mat had been water-stained when in the possession of the original owner. He replaced the mat at no charge as part of his service. I really can't speak highly enough of Mark and the concern that he demonstrated.
