I needed some drafting tools for a package design class, and wanted to support a brick and mortar store, and wanted higher quality than I saw at Walmart and Target. Staples had a good quality, but Blick's were very high quality AND cheaper than Staples. This was the first time that I shopped at this Blick as they recently moved into this former Joann store from their India Street location. While this store is a little more out-of-the-way, it is a wonderful size for Blick, and all on one level. Items are easy to find and nicely displayed, making the store a joy to browse in. If they don't have it, you probably don't need it. They also have some fun not-exactly-art things, but fewer books than I remember being at the India store. Lots of easy parking. They have a lot to choose from. Parking is somewhat better since you don't have to go into the store for a temporary parking pass like at little Italy, then go back to your car and place the pass on your dashboard and head back to the store. I needed to get some mount boards for the San Diego County fair entries for my school. What I like about this location is the parking. Lots of spaces and easy to get in and out. What I don't like is how sterile this new location is. I miss the homey down to earth feeling of the Little Italy location. I couldn't find the mount boards. I used to know where they were at the old location, and you could purchase single boards or a pack. After wandering around, I asked one of the workers. She was really great, and since they did not have 11x14, she suggested I purchase a larger board and they could cut it down. Went up and purchased the board, and the friendly worker call this other guy and explained what I needed. 5 minutes later, I had two boards, plus the extra that was cut off. There was some interesting things to look at while I was waiting. It doesn't look like the space is finished and I didn't know how long they've been here. But like I said, parking was so much easier which I really like! read more

Sad to see that Blick consolidated their Little Italy store to Sports Arena. Neither location was especially easy to travel to but Midway location has an advantage with a private parking lot! I had a great time browsing. I remember art stores were filled to the brim in inventory. With online sales perhaps competition is greater. Watercolor, oils, gauche, acrylics paint selection was magnificent. I hope they stock more 100% Cotton watercolor paper. The choices were slim. The manager was very friendly and helpful. I was planning on spending quite a bit of money, but they seemed hellbent on making sure I didn't spend a dime. The selection of art supplies is the same as it was in Little Italy. I have recently become a regular customer of Blick on Midway - they are a lot more expensive than Michaels on Midway but their quality and service had been better.... recently I purchased a plastic zipper bad to carry my pens and small sketch pad with me...2 weeks ago the zipper broke and I liked the carry bag so much I brought it back for exchange yesterday..the cashiers were very sweet but had to get a manager approval for exchange...the manager walked up with immediate attitude saying "what's the problem here?!" I showed the zipper bag with blick stamped on the outside of it and said no problem I just would like to exchange this for the exact thing, the manager said absolutely not! She said you do not have a receipt I cannot exchange it we don't know it came from here! I said but it has your name stamped on it! All I want is the exact same bag I have enjoyed this one for a short time and the zipper broke and she said absolutely not you do not have a receipt we do not know where you got this bag from!! I have been a customer there now six or seven months and I picked my bag up and said you will never see me here again I cannot believe your customer service--- your ladies are great and I will go back to Michael's for now on... An artist's dream!! Stopped by this cute store after having dinner near little Italy. I just noticed their sign outside stating they will be moving locations to north park in the summer of 2025. Hopefully there's a lot of foot traffic there too! It's almost like a Michael's but waaay better. I loved all the Knick Knacks. I feel like they make good stocking stuffers or little trinkets/gifts for specific people. The prices weren't bad. We spent less than $20 for a handful of items. Service was great too! I needed some paint pens to complete a project I am working on for a special event. I had purchased some from a nearby craft store, but was sad to find out that each one of them had dried up prior to my purchase. For that reason I decided to try the recently opened Blick, that now is located in the old Joanne Fabrics location in the Midway District. When I walked in, I noticed so many cute desk and office items, such as creative post-its, stickers and clips. The nerdy side of me could spend a ton of money on that stuff, but I was very focused on the paint pens. I asked a staff member for assistance, and told him what I needed the pens for. He told me about 3 different brands of paint pens. He was knowledgable about the differences, but I still wasn't totally sure what I needed. What I didn't like, is that the two higher end displays of paint pens were locked, meaning I had to have the staff member there waiting for me while I looked through the pens and took them off the display for a closer look. I understand that is in a high shoplifting area, but it does make for a more challenging and less enjoyable shopping trip. Anyway, I purchased three pens, and took them home to happily find that they worked, and looked great on the particular surface I had chosen. At the register, I learned that they give discounts to educators. If you are an educator, be sure to ask about that. read more

used to stop by this place every time in little italy but this was my first time at the new location. it's a spacious store with some areas still blocked off however it was still super clean and every aisle was very organized. this was my bfs first time at blick so we took some time to look through everything they had and for him to pick out calligraphy pens. the workers were nice, and dare I say too nice because they would come up to us almost every 5 minutes asking if everything was okay which made us feel uncomfortable. I feel like it's important to find some balance when the customers need space and don't ask for help. read more

Today I went to the new location of Blick on Midway. There is plenty of parking!!! YEA!!! The employees are super knowledgeable about everything I enquired about, and I asked so many questions!!! I walked around to become familiar with the new store. I took advantage of some great sales going on and left with everything on my list!!! I was able to get a custom size for a frame I have at home and they were very accommodating. I got a yard and paid around 7$. Great quality. I'll be able to make the canvas I need for about 12$ if I were to have it made it would have cost me hundreds of dollars. I'm so glad I stopped by. While walking around Little Italy , we came across Blick and it was a kid in a candy store moment for me. We were walking around and thus didn't have any challenge with parking, though i did notice that they were providing a parking pass for folks who would be shopping with them for the duration that the care was parked while the customer(s) would be shopping at the store. Once in the store i got curious about a fountain/ink pen that i had in mind (Faber Castell (Fountain pen F)). Though the store didn't carry that make they pointed me to another and equally impressive option which i ended up buying a few of them . They were clear about not knowing some aspects of the intricacies of the pens though were absolutely willing to help to find out the right ink-cartridge, ink convertor etc. Definitely friendly people on the floor out there willing to help customers (Sunny being a prime example of that and Stephanie following that up with us returning and buying the pens again with a student discount that we were able to figure out once we stepped out of the store). All in all a great experience and I'd definitely like to visit more of Blick stores around the Bay Area as it for sure carries some fascinating stuff when it comes to arts , crafts etc. An absolute must visit!!! read more

When entering the facility, the two sales associate was standing at the front door, Jen didn't greet me as she did the other customers that entered before me. I asked her a question she replied and walked away. I had to follow her to ask for a basket. She got the basket and then begin to walk away before I could ask her any other questions. Her customer service is terrible Another sales associate directed me to the resin Section and he tried to help me the best he could. overall service of Jens service is terrible . The product that I purchased was expensive and they didn't know anything about the product. please do better with your customer service. Although the prices seem to have doubled in recent years Blick remains to be one of the best places to buy art supplies in San Diego. Forget about Michael's, Joann, and Hobby Lobby. Those are imposters. I usually need to buy things in bulk for my students so I order online. But sometimes I need a few special things for my advanced students. The people working are always knowledgeable and I see the same people trip after trip. That tells me they enjoy working there. Good job, managers! Wow! This is definitely the art lovers dream come through and more! If you've tried Michaels or Hobby Lobby and you haven't found what you were looking for, you might just find it here. We were just walking around the block waiting for our name to be called for brunch and we stumbled about this gem! Once we walked in, we realized this would be a great spot to take our niece who has been exploring her creative side. There is not just an array of art supplies- canvases, sketch markers, embroidery flops, paint, textile markers, scrapbooking materials ( the list pretty much goes on) but there's also candles and activities for children. I knew this was a legit art shop when i saw there were table easels because I have not seen those sold in store. Your one job as a cashier is to not to overcharge or double charge a customer. I realized once I got home I was charged twice for a pencil sharpener. It was only $6.00 and I understand it was not done on purpose. However, please do not make a customer drive all the way to Point Loma to make the correction. The gas alone defeats the purpose of the refund. Make it possible to process a refund through email. You have the receipt with all the information provided. I also did not appreciate when I called to correct this wrong being spoken to in a snarky manner by Nathanial, the manager. Was worried about parking considering there is so much to do in the surrounding are of Little Italy but was quite pleased that Blick has a parking lot adjacent to the store and it is only for customers. Make sure you go in and get a pass to place on your dashboard and return once you are done shopping. This store is huge, every art supply you could possibly need or think of. The employees are very welcoming and helpful. The store is two stories tall and the layout is great, flows well. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was quite crowded. Pricing is pretty good on comparison to searching online. My daughter had a list for her art class and we had been searching varies places for her supplies. We had never been to Blick but she has seen their website and her Aunt had given her a gift card so we decided to take a drive and check it out. Blick Art is housed on 1844 India Street in Little Italy in San Diego. I had called so many places looking for foam core or museum board for my daughter's college project to no avail. Then, I remembered passing that store a few nights ago and called them. They had what she needed and when we arrived a salesperson called Dean knew exactly what we needed and helped us (thank you Dean) for great service and being so efficient and just making the purchase seem effortless! What an amazingly helpful guy who genuinely seemed to like what he does! The selections are really good and everything seems so well organized and clean!! I received a ticket while shopping in the store. As you can see from photo evidence, I spent a decent amount of money at the store. I then had to spend an inconvenient amount of time on my Friday, sending pictures to correct their faulty ticket system's mistake. And even had a rep of theirs insinuate that the ticket company possibly saw me park and walk away from the store. Clearly wasn't the case. It'd be a better experience for customers to not have to explain how they rightly parked and shopped at your store and how the company you hired to manage your parking , failed to do their job correctly. I'm in NO WAY an artist even though my heart wants me to be. I came in here last weekend as were in the area for that Saturday's farmers market. They have their own private parking which is looked after by a security guard. The building is two stories. Friends daughter loves art and needed some supplies. The store is quite big. I didn't think I'd find anything interesting but the right side of store has cards, stationary, gifts, etc that I couldn't get enough of. They had some pretty fun stuff that would make awesome gifts or for my own personal use. Friend introduced me to the 'flippy'. It's a new fad for kids so of course I got all suckered. I love notepads and pandas so this one flippy book caught my eye. Can't remember the last time I spent $22 so egregiously but oh well - it was a fun purchase.
