I bought a house in Carlsbad after moving to North County from up north. The house has a beautiful back yard and pool, with lots of pretty steps joining stone-paved levels. The problem was that my wife and I are in our 70s and didn't feel safe going up and down the steps without railings or handholds. And we have two young grandchildren who visit a lot and who must be kept away from the pool. I spent a long time looking for a way to solve the safety problems without ruining the appearance. I finally settled on stainless-steel cable railings. They would be about as minimal as possible (to avoid being a visual blight) but would be sturdy and reliable. If you don't know what a cable railing is, look in Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cable_railings After some hunting, we found San Diego Cable Railings and signed a contract with them. They designed and built railings, fences, and banisters to give us the safety that we wanted. They first sent a salesman, then they sent an engineer. Then they manufactured the railing components custom for our site, and finally sent installers to put it all together. The result is absolutely beautiful. And it does the job. The small stainless steel posts and railings blend in with the landscape, and the actual cables are almost invisible. I can't believe that they made a profit on my installation. The installers were meticulous and didn't rush anything. They did a huge amount of on-site custom bending of top rails to form graceful arcs. I already said that the installation is a work of art. I didn't say (yet) that it's also a work of engineering. Safety and beauty and permanence all in one project. (An aside to the installers, in case you read this: I finally figured out what those gorgeous bolt-end safety caps are. They're parts for an Electra Glide or a Road King.) read more

My husband and I couldn't be happier with our interior railings from San Diego Cable Railings. Evan and Brittany are so friendly, professional, and experienced and were a joy to do business with all along the way. It wasn't easy acquiring the 11 ft long piece of solid rift white oak we needed for the top of the long run of cable railing in our dining room as we were sourcing during supply chain shortages, and we greatly appreciate SDCR's flexibility in working with us to make our dream railing a reality! They also referred us to Mike for our installation, who is a truly top-notch contractor. Mike goes above and beyond to get the job done beautifully and quickly. If you need any kind of cable railing for your home or business, be sure to reach out to SDCR, and many thanks to Evan, Brittany, and all the team for a great experience from start to finish! read more

I live in St. Louis and engaged San Diego Cable Railings for the railing system for my new deck that I had just completed. I've never installed cable railing before, but if you're capable of building your own deck then you are certainly capable of installing cable railing. So this project was a combination of SDCR's materials and my own labor. The materials were of very high quality...powder coated stainless steel posts, stainless steel fittings, and quality Ipė wood top rail. After placing the order, SCDR kept me appraised of the shipment status. Communication is excellent either through email or voice calls. So don't be afraid of using their services even if you live 1800 miles away like me. SCDR well deserves the five-star status that it has earned. read more

We bought a fixer-upper 4 years ago. With so many things to do, we rarely invest in vanity projects. But while our previous banister worked just fine, we liked the look of the cable railing. Ours was installed in January and we are thrilled we did it. It changes the entire look of the entryway: what was once an eyesore is now a focal point and frankly, the nicest part of the house. Beyond our satisfaction with the railing itself, everyone at San Diego Cable Railings was excellent. Of the dozens of contractors we've had here in 4 years, I don't recall anyone better. Unlike so many companies, they communicated and kept us in the loop during pre-planning. They spent hours measuring (and re-measuring) every ugly angle of our staircase. They worked nonstop during installation, stopping only to update us on progress. The level of skill & craftsmanship was that of true professionals and they were great guys to boot. We have a radius in our handrail that numerous contractor friends told me would be difficult & time consuming. San Diego Cable Railings handled it with ease. Thanks again to all who made it happen - we're just as happy as the day it was installed. read more

Our project started w/ an immature vision; Steve and crew made it reality. The project consisted of 3 parts - cement repair (independent contractor), cable rail installation (SD Cable Railings) and cement reconditioning/coating (Life Deck). Phase 1 was a nightmare - delays, overruns, excuses and a shoddy final product. When Steve visited to assess Phase 2, he acknowledged the poor state of affairs (our frustration may have been slightly noticeable) but was immediately helpful. He not only offered a number of constructive solutions to recover and execute his component, but also found creative ways to incorporate structural and aesthetic improvements along the way. As the project transitioned to Phase 3, Steve communicated timelines and offered recommendations to LifeDeck to ensure a seamless transition and a top-notch end-to-end product. Not to be forgotten, Steve's crew is great. Prompt, respectful and talented come to mind. Each task was approached w/ a smile... no seriously, there were literally grins while (Matt in particular) cutting and placing stones w/ creative authority. We will most definitely call Steve for our next project and you should too. read more

The team at SDCR was amazing to work with from start to finish. Not knowing much about the product and construction myself, they walked me through everything to know and helped me make an informed decision about what would be best for rooftop. We get compliments on this every time someone new is up on our rooftop asking us where we got the product. I have seen many other products in our neighborhood and SDCR is by far the superior product while at a very affordable price. There is no reason to shop anywhere else because San Diego Cable Railings has everything you will ever need for indoor or outdoor cable railings. read more

They built a gorgeous cable fence for my terrace. Due to a miscommunication with the installer (and a hands off contractor) I did not reapply the protective oil when I should have. The railing dried out, developed cracks and looked horrible. The company came back out to fill in the cracks, sand and refinish the handrail for me! Great product and great service! read more

My wife and I recently had San Diego Cable Railing install a fence in our backyard. The entire process was excellent! Not only was the owner Steve Sherritt knowledgeable and courteous, but the finished product exceeded our expectations! The fence was designed by Steve, and installed by his very professional crew! The installation was surprisingly quick and efficient. The fence installed was priced lower and of a higher quality than commercially available kit systems because they manufacture the components and minimize waste. In addition, we were able to get the aesthetic look we desired, rather than the look dictated by the kit systems. Our contractor and landscape architect were duly impressed with the resulting fence. We would not hesitate to recommend San Diego Cable Railing to our families and friends! read more

I had the pleasure of working with Evan from San Diego Cable Railings. I really wanted to install a cable railing inside our new home and after doing some research I landed upon San Diego Cable Railings. I'm so glad I found Evan as he walked me through the entire process and even brought me into his shop on the weekend to show me the different wood options. He answered all of my questions, was able to meet a quick turn around time during the holidays, and even delivered the rail to my home. Overall, I would highly recommend Evan and San Diego Cable Railings. They did a wonderful job and I am extremely satisfied with the end result! read more

I live in the midwest and recently purchased a DIY cable railing kit from San Diego Cable Railings. This kit has been great and so easy to install. When I began looking at stair kits I got bids from a couple companies but San Diego Cable Railings was the only one who had pre-drilled the stair posts and the posts where cut to size so all I had to do was install. It was a no brainer. My sales representative was very helpful with figuring out all the parts I would need and the delivery was quick. I used the side mount posts for my inside stairs and they were very easy to install and so was the pre swaged cable tensioning system. When I had a technical question I was so surprised the owner called me back in 5 minutes to answer my questions. The customer service was amazing!!! I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a cable railing system. I wish they included or emailed more directions with the kits but other than that I have no complaints. A helpful hint when you are measuring your stairs for the angle make sure you subtract the thickness of your carpet. Great company and would work with them again! read more
