They have a great selection of products and amazing deals on used gear. Not to mention that the service here is absolutely wonderful! Rental Department is THE BEST! Always appreciate them and their services and prices. I've delt with the manager here several times and he always seems bothered by my questions and disinterested. Sometimes I feel like because I'm a girl he doesn't take me seriously in the shop. Just my opinion but I do actively avoid the manager when I'm there. read more

I'm a longtime Samy's customer (when I'm in NY I go to B+H)... I know these places are bustling and my experiences are 100% dependent on what salesperson you get. Very hit or miss, but if you get a good person who's not rushing you to move on to the next commission you can get great advice. If you get someone who loves photography and loves teaching you (I'm a good photographer but amateur) then it's great. But I've only been to the Fairfax location in all these years and I was surprised one day when I was cutting through Pasadena to avoid freeway traffic and saw Samy's. I zipped into the parking lot because I needed a battery of all things, and walked out with a new telefoto lens. In all candor, it was an impulse buy because I felt like buying myself a present because it was just one of those days. And because I've wanted one forever. And because after a long creative dry spell, I had just felt able to start writing and taking pictures again. I had my camera with me and asked for a Canon lens and the salesperson directed me towards a Tamron that was literally one-third the price with a rebate special going on. I was skeptical but he put it on my camera and let me check it out, and it was pretty awesome. He assured me I could try it out and had time to return it so I took a chance. So this is a WAY smaller store than Fairfax, and their selection of accessories was limited. But again, I got a great salesperson whose name I am unfortunately forgetting but he was super nice, helpful, patient and gave me the right lens for me at the right price. I went to Samy's Camera on Saturday for the first time and was overjoyed by how nice everyone was. In particular, I'd like to extend extra gratitude towards Andrew! Not only did he help me figure out why my 35mm film camera's shutter button was jammed (apparently it was because I ran out of film! I'm a beginner if you haven't noticed hehe) but he helped me pick out a new film roll to try out. Love this place! Recently decided to buy a camera and figure it out.. I had no idea what I was doing and Jason was a great help. He's very knowledgeable and took the time to explain to me anything I needed help with, he's always gone above and beyond anytime I've been in the store. There are no pushy sales people which I like and if you're not sure about what lens to get you can always rent until you decide or when you can afford to purchase one. I have never had a bad experience at any Samy's Camera and this is the same for this location as well. I am always met with a smile and expert advice/opinion by the staff. They are very helpful and patient with all of their customers. They have a smaller selection than some of the other stores, but they are very willing to have it shipped or work out something with the customer. The parking is very small, but there is some street parking near the store. I would definitely come back to this location if I am in the area. read more

I like this location more than the Fairfax location. It's not as busy and the staff can take time to explain things to you. I never had that luxury at the Fairfax location because they just had way too many people there. In return, I bought a lot more stuff at this location than at the Fairfax location and I will continue to do so. From parking to buying, the experience is just a lot more client friendly. read more

Andrew in the film department is my medium format guardian angel! I had just purchased a Mamiya RB67 online and came in the store to buy some film. My plan was to go home and watch a million YouTube videos to try and understand how to use this fine hunk of a camera. Luckily for me Andrew was there and took the time show me how to load and unload the camera. He even let me practice with some practice film so that I really had a handle on how use the camera and gave me other tips and tricks that were extremely helpful. Jim helped me out: I was looking for a used Camera (body only) and saw they had it online. I called and found out they only had it at the warehouse and not in store. Jim was kind enough to request the camera to be sent to the store over night and told me he would call next business day around 4pm. Next day: Jim calls and confirms the camera has arrived. He helped me out and showed me the basics settings for the camera and also gave me free batteries for it. Also picked up a box of Kodak Portra 400. The main reason I visited though was to ask how to use the camera- I've been wanting to get into film but had no idea where to start! I mostly like this place and I'm grateful that it exists but their rentals aren't 100% reliable (received a Canon with missing buttons once) and they don't have the most consistent inventory (almost completely out of gels last time, both locations are almost completely out of Portra)... would give a 3.5 if I could but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to shipping/port issues. I will say specifically called them about the availability & quantity available of Porta 800 and was clearly told there were 10 boxes. When I arrived (after driving 40 minutes to get there) I was told there was 2 per customer limit. When someone calls and asks about a specific film stock and quantity you would think you would give them heads up about such a limit. read more

Juan treated my inexperienced self so kindly and really allowed me to ask questions, get advice without ever feeling stupid. Flash to five years later and this is still my favorite store. I've had such great experiences here and highly recommend this store and it's incredible employees. They are respectable of newbies and top pro photographers alike. They will take care of you (still thoughtful enough to wear masks even though you don't have to) and will give you the best deal they can. This Camera store has helped me since I got my camera. I liked how they would help me in what lenses to buy and what not. The only reason I would give a three star to this store is simply because of the lack of organization through the phone. What I mean by that is they would forget stuff to do. Three weeks ago, I brought my camera in the store to fix. They gave me a option two weeks ago by phone call to have it fixed. They gave me the estimated cost and I SAID YES. The representative never heard me so they though that I would wait. This week, I called asking why I am receiving voicemails from Samy's. They told me that I have never confirmed it. So their management of how they take notes is messy. Do it "neater" in which customers do not have to wait a extra 2 weeks for their camera to be taken care of. read more

I came in for a more accurate quote and was greeted by Frank, who along with Jason, tested my gear and gave me prices on trade-in and worked with me to ensure the best value. I don't come here often but when I need a new camera or supplies, this is the spot to come to as they are fully knowledgeable about all their products and they have a wide range of cameras, video cameras and accessories , they even have drones here, no matter what your budget is they have what you are looking for. The customer service from what I have experienced the few times I've been here has been excellent , never trying to up sell me things I don't need they always ask what I'm using it for whether recreational or professional use. If you are looking for a video camera I would suggest asking for Alyssa as she is nice, patient, and knowledgeable and quick to let you know what is on sale for what you are looking for. They also give you this passport when you buy products from them, that has coupons for free classes, film printing, and other informative stuff. Did I mention they will buy your camera back from you if you are upgrading. There is free parking on street or you can park in parking lot in the back. I recently went into Samy's to pickup a Canon EOS R6 with a 24-105 f/4-7.1 kit lens, and Juan at the camera counter was such an amazing help! Knowledge, honest, and the best damn camera salesman I've ever encountered.
