Brought in my Nikon D40X. Haven't used it in years, probably because it didn't appear to auto-focus after pressing the shutter button. I have noticed that it felt "dirty", it didn't feel "smooth" when I rotated the lenses. John tested it out & asked me if I use my glasses to shoot, then adjusted the Viewfinder diopter adjustment (next to the Viewfinder). He opened the door, shot a few shots & said the camera works fine. I also brought in my AF-S NIKKOR 55-200mm lense & he said the auto-focus does not work. He said he could fix it, but I could look up a similar lense in Ebay for the same amount. I just left my camera to have it cleaned. He said the sensors were very dirty. I cannot say enough wonderful things about General Camera Repair. The level of service and camera knowledge is completely out of this world. I brought in my mother's ancient 35 mm camera because I didn't know if it still worked or even how to open it (since I may be the least mechanical person ever.) With a Yelp check-in, I received a free camera inspection which was offered readily and was most helpful. The kind gentleman showed me that there was a roll of film still in the camera (probably from the early aughts) and extracted it ready for developing. He then showed me that the aperture opened extremely slowly, giving the opinion that the camera really wasn't working and probably not worth repairing. Then, he *also* looked at my mother's malfunctioning slide viewer, diagnosed the problem at once, and repaired it in about 1 minute. And.....he didn't charge me a cent! This level of honesty and excellent customer service made me a loyal customer for life. Absolutely highly recommended! I'll be back. read more

Came here after an employee at Samys camera recommended it to me because I needed to see if I could salvage an old canon rebel gII camera my late grandfather left behind. Immediately upon entering I knew I wouldn't be scammed. There was someone else there before me trying to fix a camcorder and the gentleman behind the counter was honest and told him that he could fix it but it would cost more to fix it than what the camera is worth. Even went as far as to check eBay listings to back this up. When it was my turn I told him the camera had been stored for years so much so that fungus had developed in the inner workings of the camera and the back film door wouldn't close because the latch was messed up. He popped some batteries in there and took a look at it before telling me he could do it and exactly what he would go. Overall the repairs and labor came out to $100 which I was expecting it to cost more. All of this happened on a Saturday and by Monday at noon it was ready for pick up. Picked it up yesterday and the camera looks just like when my grandpa had it back in the day. They did stellar work and I'm so excited that it's working. My Canon 77D suddenly "forgot" how to expose images correctly; the usual controls were not working in the usual manner. I brought it to General Camera Repair, figuring it would be there for a while. But no - he tested it on another lens, checked some settings, made a few adjustments, and whoosh - it was fixed! Even better, he explained how and why it's a good idea to re-set certain settings to the original factory settings from time to time, and did it in a way that did not make me feel stupid for not already knowing that. This is a great shop! I had an old camcorder and was curious if I could get it fixed up nice at this business, which I was recommended to by another camera shop by chance. I chatted with the camera technician, John, and couldn't be happier with his heartfelt competence in his role at the shop. I felt that John was very thoughtful and caring, alongside being very friendly. The camera is a less common model and not able to be fixed due to too much wear and (probably) misuse, but John worked with the camcorder regardless just to see if he could help me out! He charged no fee for inspecting my cam. With prices so high these days, and how camera fixes can get pretty expensive, I am beyond grateful simply that John helped me out even if the camera was a loss. Sabrina is the daughter or grand daughter, I forgot, of the original owner of this family run store which was opened a long time ago. This place is one of those old businesses that obviously does a fantastic job which is why they are still up and running! I took my camera to the beach and irresponsibly allowed my friends to use it and they got sand into the lenses and broke it. I called, visited, asked many difference people and places and I kept getting the same responses. "It's not fixable miss." "This repair will probably cost you $200+ so mind as well buy a new camera" I have a Canon SD1000 and although it's only 7.1MP it's taken some amazing photos so I love it very much. I prefer fixing what I have than spending $ on a new one so you can tell I really wanted it fixed. Long behold, I go on Yelp and find this place and read it's reviews, seemed like a loved place, didn't hurt to check it out, so I did. I drove to Pasadena the first time, they were closed but that didn't stop me from coming back the next day. Which I did, told Sabrina what was wrong and she took my camera, said if it wasn't fixable I'd get my deposit back. Reasonable. 1 week and 2 days later I get a phone call from Sabrina that my camera was fixed and ready to be picked up. A-mazing! $95 nothing more. I am most certainly recommending this place to anyone who has camera troubles. I left with about 10 business cards to keep and hand out to anyone who speaks of needing their camera repaired or anything :) read more

I was going to take the Nikon SB-800 Flash Strobe to get fixed because the light bulb blew out on me to Samy's, but the repair tech leaves by 4:30pm, so they referred me over to Sabrina here at General Camera Repair. She's soooo nice and extremely helpful, as mentioned in other Yelp reviews. They are great with following up on the status of your repair if it takes longer for the parts to come in and are really honest. Like any other good repair shop, she showed me the parts that were broken. I highly recommend this place for all of your Nikonian repair needs. They close at 6pm on the weekdays.
