I had my first experience with hot rod cameras a couple of days ago, and I can't speak highly enough about them. Upon first glance, it seemed to me that I was just looking at another online camera equipment store. I already knew what I was looking for, but I had a couple of questions regarding some pricing, so I went ahead and shot off a quick email. Mind you, this was around midnight on a Friday. Most of the time, I wouldn't expect anything back until the following Monday during business hours; however, just TWENTY minutes later I'd gotten a very kind and thorough response along with a list of options for me. I was asking about a product that was actually being sold cheaper at another place; and they still were completely honest in what other options were available to me through them, or another merchant. Sure, they offer a lot of great gear as do many other camera shops; but I honestly think it's the people at hot rod cameras that make it a shop I'd go to over anyone else. Knowing that they pour that much attention into even the simplest of inquiries like mine gives me a lot more confidence in them to not only be knowledgable about what they're selling, but also on how these products translate over to the person whose shopping with them. Ilya Friedman is simply amazing. I've never ever had such a good experience with a camera shop. He made two trips to Sun Valley today to get me the bag I needed for my shoot tomorrow. And this was all with the understanding I didn't have to buy either bag if they didn't work for my needs. His product knowledge is the most thorough I've ever come across, and it felt like I was part of his extended family. He did all that legwork for what is probably a pretty low margin sale. If I knew now what I knew when I purchased a DJI Ronin from them. They modified the Ronin to accommodate a camera I was using, but did not tell me that in doing so, voided the warranty the DJI offers. We noticed a problem when we received the device in February, and alerted their tech staff. The unit went back in the box for 2 months until the vehicle where it was to be installed was completed--in May. In May, the unit would not align, I called them, HRC told me to send it to DJI directly. After DJI received it, they voided the warranty because of the extender arms HRC had installed on the camera ---but never alerted me that this voided the warranty. DJI makes extender arms which would have not voided the warranty, but HRC used aftermarket product instead. The repair was $300 and I asked HRC to pay, but they refused claiming it was past their 30 day warranty. The manager at HRC told me that I should have taken the extenders off prior to sending it to DJI, which seemed dishonest to me. HRC management was not friendly or helpful in resolving this issue, being more concerned about covering their asses. I will never use this company again and would caution anyone thinking of doing to re-consider. read more
