Hot Rod Cameras is easily one of the coolest spots in town. I've picked up a few pieces of gear from them over time, and every single experience has been solid. The team actually knows what they're talking about. No ego, no upsell pressure, just real conversations about what makes sense for your workflow. What I respect most is how tapped in they are to the "new new." They're consistently carrying and releasing the latest gear before most places even catch up. If something innovative drops in the camera world, they either already have it or can get it fast. That matters when you're trying to stay current and competitive. The vibe is professional but relaxed. It feels like a place run by people who actually work in production and understand what it's like on set. They get the urgency. They get the details. And they treat you with respect whether you're buying something big or just grabbing an accessory. If you're serious about camera gear and want knowledgeable people who are cool, helpful, and ahead of the curve, this is the spot. Probably the coolest camera shop in town. read more

Hot Rod Cameras is basically Disneyland for camera nerds -- except everyone actually knows what they're doing. I've bought gear from them and prepped cameras at their LA space, and every time it's the same vibe: skilled techs, zero attitude, and a room full of people who clearly care about the craft. The prep area feels like a creative war room -- organized, focused, and buzzing with purpose. If you're serious about production and want to be around people who get it, this is the place. read more

I must say, I've bought from a great many camera shops in the past but the service I received at Hot Rod Cameras was THE BEST! My interactions were with Stephen mainly, and he was not only helpful in answering ALL of my many questions, he even went as far as contacting distributors and keeping me abreast of my preorder status via email almost weekly. I had my first experience with hot rod cameras a couple of days ago, and I can't speak highly enough about them. Upon first glance, it seemed to me that I was just looking at another online camera equipment store. I already knew what I was looking for, but I had a couple of questions regarding some pricing, so I went ahead and shot off a quick email. Mind you, this was around midnight on a Friday. Most of the time, I wouldn't expect anything back until the following Monday during business hours; however, just TWENTY minutes later I'd gotten a very kind and thorough response along with a list of options for me. I was asking about a product that was actually being sold cheaper at another place; and they still were completely honest in what other options were available to me through them, or another merchant. Sure, they offer a lot of great gear as do many other camera shops; but I honestly think it's the people at hot rod cameras that make it a shop I'd go to over anyone else. Knowing that they pour that much attention into even the simplest of inquiries like mine gives me a lot more confidence in them to not only be knowledgable about what they're selling, but also on how these products translate over to the person whose shopping with them. Really makes for a easy-going, informative, pleasant, and complete experience. That alone makes this camera shop one of the best places I've had the privilege of purchasing from. read more

5 Stars absolutely. Hot Rod Cameras gets it. Illya has vast experience and expertise and has his finger on the pulse of what's coming down the line. I trust his wisdom regarding all production needs. He is honest and dedicated to serving the needs of his customers rather than just making a quick sale. He understands the value of building a relationship with his customers. The location is excellent and centrally located and even though I am now inclined to purchase by phone order or on his website, it is great to know I can pop in and ask questions from people who really know about this industry. They have the gear for every level of production. Its fun to see what can be done with various rigs and to emulate the big studios with a smaller rig. I am very pleased with my experiences in dealing with Hot Rod Cameras and will be back again and again when we go back into production. read more

My new favorite camera shop! They carry pro cinema equipment like Black Magic & RED & much more! Best of all, staff knows what they're talking about & are super honest. I learned about them because of Blacklist right next door. We've been renting from them for a while & still do. Hit 2 birds with one in this sweet spot :) read more

Perfect all in one camera shop! I have been an owner/operator for almost 25 years and have purchased many cameras from many shops. This was hands down the best experience ever and they have my business for life. We had a problem with a manufacturer defect on my first purchase and the staff (all of the staff) was concerned and did whatever it took to make things right immediately. They all know their stuff and helped me make the right decisions on gear for me regardless of what they would make on the sale. Knowledgeable, friendly and ethical... Tough to find in sales but these guys get it. read more

Ilya Friedman is simply amazing. I've never ever had such a good experience with a camera shop. He made two trips to Sun Valley today to get me the bag I needed for my shoot tomorrow. And this was all with the understanding I didn't have to buy either bag if they didn't work for my needs. His product knowledge is the most thorough I've ever come across, and it felt like I was part of his extended family. He did all that legwork for what is probably a pretty low margin sale. And at the end of the day, I'm a small fish. I'm not spending thousands of dollars but I was treated as if I was one of the major networks buying huge amounts of gear. What a fantastic experience. Please support this guy. So, so good. read more

If I knew now what I knew when I purchased a DJI Ronin from them. They modified the Ronin to accommodate a camera I was using, but did not tell me that in doing so, voided the warranty the DJI offers. We noticed a problem when we received the device in February, and alerted their tech staff. The unit went back in the box for 2 months until the vehicle where it was to be installed was completed--in May. In May, the unit would not align, I called them, HRC told me to send it to DJI directly. After DJI received it, they voided the warranty because of the extender arms HRC had installed on the camera ---but never alerted me that this voided the warranty. DJI makes extender arms which would have not voided the warranty, but HRC used aftermarket product instead. The repair was $300 and I asked HRC to pay, but they refused claiming it was past their 30 day warranty. The manager at HRC told me that I should have taken the extenders off prior to sending it to DJI, which seemed dishonest to me. HRC management was not friendly or helpful in resolving this issue, being more concerned about covering their asses. I will never use this company again and would caution anyone thinking of doing to re-consider. read more

These guys and girls rule! Bend over backwards to help you out. Recently, they let me test out an Aputure 300D before purchasing. I went the whole 9 yards, brought in my camera, a light to test against; and they were happy to help out. Total camera dorks, and that's a compliment. read more

I see why they have so many good reviews. I haven't purchased anything from them yet but the customer service was superb and they price match. Which is phenomenal. Over the phone I was given plenty of great info, and even a discount code to what I actually needed. Apparently they also can get anything they don't have in stock with a 24 hour turn around which is amazing. When I purchase I will purchase here. Thanks guys! read more

I just moved to LA from NYC where I had my go to camera guys for 9 years. After a recommendation, I checked out Hot Rod Cameras and it was a great experience from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out with my new gear. I worked with Illya and Ian to figure out the right rig for my specific project and they impressed me with their all around pro knowledge, super competitive prices (even throwing in a discount at the end), and ability to give me options I hadn't even considered. That's why you have camera guys. They even gave me one of their cupcakes that they had there! They've got tons of gear and if the stuff I needed that they didn't have came in a day. Ive been on Yelp for years, but this is the first review Ive felt compelled to write. Feeling pretty awesome about Hot Rod & couldn't recommend them enough. read more

I love these guys. I was introduced to the owner Illya a couple of years ago through email by a friend in Hawaii. Illya personally spent hours explaining the the ins and outs of the Production equipment world. Without his guidance I would have been making many more expensive mistakes. I owe Illya and his rocking staff many thanks, forever gratitude and more cold hard cash on goodies. You can trust them implicitly. We bought our Arri Amira, Cooke S4 minis and a ton of other gear from Hot Rod. Hot Rod can take care of every need you have. If they don't have in stock they can find it. Go by their office! Being there is like a Mini NAB and will make you go crazy with all the toys. Everyone is super friendly and get back to you pretty quickly on anything you need. Prices are reasonable! Service is awesome. I would give 6 stars if that was a thing. You get my drift. read more
