Getting together with a friend yesterday at Samurai for an early dinner. Samurai is very similar to Benihana with the big hibachi table that guests can sit at watching the chef cook their meal in front of them. Always entertaining. We ordered the Samurai Spicy Shrimp & Filet Mignon meal, the Samurai Onion Soup and Samurai salad, and the Samurai California Roll. Everything was delicious. Service was very good here. I don't normally write bad reviews, but this needs to be known. The problem with samurai and Benihana as of today is disrespectful. You stand there and they take your name and tell you it will be one hour to be seated. As soon as they call your name to sit down at your hibachi table. You wait an additional 45 minutes just for the cook. Meanwhile, your kids are getting out of control. You're starving and you're just simply getting mad because of terrible service. This happened also at the Benihana in Coral Gables. It was two hours over there just waiting for the cook. The only reason I go there is for the entertainment for the children. The kids like it, but my kids no longer want to go because of how terrible the wait is. The cooks are overwhelmed because they're not staffed correctly. I don't know if they don't pay enough to have the cooks, but I always tip them at the end graciously to compensate them. The carpet at samurai is way overdue to be replaced plus the Air Conditioning when I went on Black Friday was not working. The whole place is falling apart. What a disgrace to a great dining experience that went sideways. What a shame. read more

All the food and drinks were flawless, delicious, and perfectly cooked/presented during entertainment with their classic heart shaped rice, onion tower volcano, shrimp popping. This is my husband's favorite restaurant since he was a child. We hadn't been here since 7-8 years because we moved an hour away, we wanted to come for his birthday last month but weren't waiting 45 mins so we came this month for date night and were highly satisfied with all aspects. If you're looking for a decent hibachi place or a place to eat with family and friends this can satisfy your desires. One of the small things that I didn't like was that their entire lot was made entirely for valet leaving no where for you to park unless you park on the lot next door, which didn't make sense to me because there was so much parking. It just seemed liked a random cash grab for them, cause the valet was unnecessary for a place so casual. The inside was nice, felt like every hibachi place I've been to, nothing too special. I wish I can give this restaurant ZERO stars. I went to this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. I had heard wonderful things about it, but unfortunately, that was not my experience. The waitress assigned to our table -- her name was either Rosselin or something similar -- was extremely overwhelmed and unprofessional (having 1 or 2 tables said by the manager). She never introduced herself; we had to ask for her name, She handed us the paper napkins all crumpled instead of neatly folded and properly presented, as expected. One of the ladies next to me even found a hair on one of them. She never repeated the order back to us and was completely unclear in her explanations. She told us that adding extra chicken to one of the plates would be $20 because it was "à la carte," she could not even properly explain what that meant. Her attitude was completely unprofessional, and her service was appalling. She was inattentive to the table, never checked on our drinks, and showed zero care throughout the service. Eventually, after what felt like almost 30 minutes, the soups and salads finally arrived. The manager did attempt to compensate by offering complimentary drinks, which we appreciated, but it was far from enough to correct the situation. Then, after an entire hour of waiting, the chef never came to our table. We complained about the excessive delay, especially since we were dining with a 15-month-old child, and the heat from the table was becoming increasingly uncomfortable. We ultimately decided to leave the restaurant, completely frustrated by the terrible service and disappointed in a waitress who clearly had no idea what she was doing or what a customer service really is! The food is not cheap in this place. The least you can do is provide excellent service that matches your prices. Samurai is known for its hibachi but we elected to sit at the bar and eat and drink there. They have a happy hour. Careful though, I felt discouraged to order off the happy hour menu. The menu was actually removed and I was given the regular menu. I had to walk around the bar to get it back. The service was competent and polite but not necessarily friendly. Then guests waiting for tables took up the chairs at the bar and ordered nothing. I'd hate to be a bartender there. They really need a better air conditioned waiting area. They only offer valet parking. It's complimentary but unexpected so I didn't see many tips for the valet passing hands. The FOOD was delicious. Had the calamari roll and it was crisp and delicious. I guess I'll start at the beginning, the parking lot. Parking here is is horrific, good luck finding a spot. This was on a Wednesday night, nothing special. Once you're lucky enough to find a spot and you make your way to the entrance, the spill over of people outside was as larger then anyone could expect. It was ridiculous, little kids were running around unsupervised, other people were blocking the door. Once inside the hostess took our names and told us it would be a shorter wait because we were only 2 people. She was very pleasant I told her it was Carina's birthday and and she wished her a Happy Birthday and you could tell she was smiling underneath her mask. Our waitress did her best to communicate, although it was very difficult because this place is extremely loud. Carina enjoyed her beautiful flower drink and I ordered a dirty martini with Tito's, it was delicious Our drink orders came out very quickly, considering the considering how packed it was. Once Chef Edwin came to the table he began the show. Always a treat to watch and this was no exception. Carina loved her Chicken Teriyaki. I wasn't hungry and they don't have many vegan options, so I passed on the food. Arrived with my family at 8:10 pm to have dinner at samurai. There was no wait time and we were seated very quickly. We placed our order at 8:25 pm and after it hitting the 9 pm mark we noticed that all the tables around us had gotten their order placed- had their meal cooked- and then paid and left. Let me start by saying parking is valet only, unless you park at the adjacent lot next door or across the Main Street at burger shack, signage of towing are posted everywhere so you have been warned. Came here for dinner and the place was fairly packed. While waiting for the rest of our party to arrive noticed the place is a bit outdated and the entrance/waiting area seemed like it could use a sitting area. Noticed light fixture cover was hanging, scuffed walls, and outdated decor for an upscale restaurant. Then while walking to be seated was immediately hit with the heat from the hibachi tables and the rooms we walked thru were smoky. Two hours later we wreaked of the cooking oil in the air, seemed ventilation fans were not properly functioning since smoke was going everywhere. Other than smelling like smoke and oil the food was decent but don't think I would go back. Think I will stick to Benihana, same entertainment, price and food and no struggle to look for parking. Came to Samurai with some friends the other day to celebrate my birthday. Since I had signed up on Samurai's website beforehand they emailed me a $30 dinner voucher to use which was really cool. No matter what day you come be prepared to wait because this place is always packed. We came on a Monday and we waited around 30 minutes for the table which wasn't too bad. I decided to go with the Samurai Marina that included shrimp, calamari and scallops. The meal also included soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, vegetables and hot tea. And of course I upgraded to the fried rice because you can't come here and not get that! Honestly it had been years since I came here and I was really happy with my meal. Everything tasted great and as I can't have a lot of dairy the chef even made sure to use way less butter on my meal because if you've come here you know they put a lot of butter in everything. The chef himself was super nice and made it such a fun experience. After the dinner show was over they even brought out some ice cream and sang for my bday. Happy Sunday everyone! Well this review has been a long time coming. Not sure why I waited until now but we really enjoy eating at Samurai so here we go. Interesting to note that I believe Benihana may have bought out Samurai as I noticed some signs in the parking lot that mentioned "Benihana Pickup" parking spot. Was a little surprised as Samurai is usually awesome and the Benihana's on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables lately unfortunately has not been very good. I want to also note that the only reason I am giving Samurai a 4 stars is due to the parking really being a pain. If not for the parking being a problem, a 5 stars is definitely in order. So we get there about 7 PM and everyone was friendly and greeted us. Surprisingly it was not so packed but I could tell that the pace was picking up. Parking was almost at capacity and people were getting antsy trying to park. Wait time was reasonable only 30-45 minutes as the usual is 60 minutes on Friday's and weekends. Not to worry though as they do have a full bar and we effectively used the time to partake in some libations! LOL! Bartender was very nice and actually asked us if we wanted anything on the way in. So for appetizers we opted for the Rainbow Sushi Roll which was awesome. Heading in to the entrees we ordered the Seafood Combination (Lobster, Scallops and Shrimp) platter and the Hibachi Shrimp five course meal options. All meals come with a shrimp and vegetable (zucchini, onions and mushrooms) appetizer which is pretty tasty as well. As expected both our meals were cooked to perfection and extremely tasty as well. If you are like me who always needs a little more protein, they got you covered. You can add more shrimp, scallops or chicken (about 10 pieces per item) to any entree for $11-$13 more. Best part about Samurai outside of the great food and drinks is the overall experience watching your meal being cooked, interacting with your chef; also, getting to know people at the table. Ok, so at this point we were all thinking desserts. Happy to report they have the usual comfort desserts on the menu (Chocolate Cake, Keylime Pie, Fried bananas w/ ice cream) but they also have a low calorie green tea ice cream which Is very good. Overall, we had a great time and would highly recommend anyone who hasn't been to take a drive and check them out. With Samurai in South Dade county, no real reason to trek to Benihana in Coral Gables for the Japanese steak house experience.
