After doing much research on what we wanted in our little backyard we decided on pavers and Wayne was the man to do it! From the very beginning I was very happy with his enthusiasm, friendliness, and honesty. It's been 5 months since his outstanding crew has done the job and we get so many compliments on the new space. It's a small space but he was able to create more patio square footage. He also kept our 6 month year old son in mind when deciding on the best product. The crew was efficient, clean, and quiet. read more

My wife and I contacted Wayne at Samurai Paver Systems to discuss the backyard landscaping for our new construction home. He was immediately easy to talk to and up front regarding his design and business philosophy. We scheduled a time to meet and he provided great ideas while being responsive to our budget and preferences. During the entire project Wayne always made the time to talk/meet with us to choose materials and/or go over the design. In the end we decided to install paver walkways, a modular retaining wall, a crushed granite pathway, and an irrigation system. It rained for nearly the entire two weeks during the construction phase but Wayne and his crew found a way to get things done in spite of the weather. Most impressive is that they were able to do this without causing a muddy mess in the process, which is no small feat. They also left a small 'footprint', i.e. their equipment/materials did not get in the way of our daily activities and use of our home. A few additional notes that further justify my 5-star rating: 1) Wayne was upfront and transparent about pricing. He provided ideas regarding ways to reduce the cost for certain items and/or advice on how to do things ourselves if we wished. 2) Wayne and his foreman Louis are very professional but also very personable. I appreciated that Wayne felt comfortable bringing his daughter over while measuring our yard and talking about the project. She and my 5-year son got along very well and played while Wayne and I talked about the project. 3) My family is extremely happy with how things turned out. The installation of pavers, retaining wall, crushed granite, and irrigation system is top notch with excellent attention to detail. I especially appreciated how they handled the drainage for our lot, which worked very well during this last series of storms. I do not hesitate in providing the highest recommendation for Samurai Paver Systems and will certainly work with them for any future project. read more

If you want good customer service then you should avoid Samurai Paver Systems at all costs! Don't get me wrong, Wayne has a great personality...if he ever calls you back! I first contacted Wayne when we realized that our previous contractor had no clue what he was doing. After failing two inspections and learning that the previous contractor had ordered the wrong type of pavers, we were desperate for someone who knew what they were doing so that they could complete our driveway. After meeting with numerous paving companies who claimed that they could not use the pavers that we had, we were referred to Wayne. At first, Wayne was a breath of fresh air. He assured us that our pavers could be used and that most of the work for our driveway project had been completed (thus we wouldn't need to shell out more money on materials and labor). Wayne came to our house for two hours and assessed our project. He gave us an amazing initial quote for labor and we were thrilled since it was on the lower end of the quotes we had been given. Wayne told us that he would get a more formal quote and timeline back to us within 24 hours. After our conversation, I felt optimistic that Wayne would be "the guy" that finally would help us complete our project. True to his word, Wayne did email us back within 24 hours. However, Wayne stated in his email that he didn't have time to work on our project "this month." He also did not provide us with a quote. The next day, I called Wayne and he picked up. As soon as I told him who I was (perhaps he didn't recognize my phone number), he claimed he couldn't hear me because his cell reception was bad and he hung up on me. I called him back five minutes later and he didn't pick up, so I left a message. A day later...still no call back or email. I then emailed him and asked him if he was able to work on our project later on in the future. After not hearing from Wayne for days, I had my husband email and call Wayne. My husband emailed Wayne saying that we would love for him to give us referrals to other paving companies if he was too busy for the job. To this day, Wayne has not called or emailed us back. I understand that people are busy, but hanging up on someone and not emailing, calling or texting back is unacceptable and unprofessional - especially when you tell someone that you can help them with their project. If he knew he was too busy, he should have just told us that he couldn't help us at all rather than saying he was too busy "this month." Dealing with Samurai Pavers was a colossal waste of time!!! UPDATE After I posted a negative review of Samurai Pavers on yelp, Wayne responded by saying that he had told us previously that he was busy for two months and that we did not contact him back after expressing our interest in being put on his waitlist. (1) He NEVER told us that his company was booked for two months solid. He never told my husband and he never said it to me when he came here. In fact, I went through our Nest Cam footage the week that we met and he never said anything about being booked for two months. (2) Wayne said that he said in an email that his company was booked for two months - not true! His email stated that he was not available for this month (meaning July since we met at the end of June). (3) Wayne said that he never heard from us again after we told you we would be okay with waiting for his company to complete his other projects. I called Wayne the next day and he purposely hung up on me. I also emailed and texted. My husband called, emailed and texted him as well. We were attempting to see when we could be put on his schedule but he completely ignored us (until I wrote a negative review about his company)! We stopped contacting him after seven or eight attempts because he just couldn't be bothered to call us back. If Wayne had just told me to my face that Samurai Pavers didn't want to help us with our project, I would have been fine with that. We have had other contractors who have told us that they were too busy or that they couldn't guarantee the work when someone else had already started. The reason I did not write terrible reviews about them is that they explicitly told me these things. Instead, Wayne completely ignored us. And only when faced with a negative review on yelp did he respond. In my opinion, you shouldn't waste your time with Samurai Pavers since it's clear from my experience that they don't care about good customer service! read more

My wife and I met Wayne at a Home & Garden show last October. We found him very energetic, likable, and proud of his business/work. To our surprise, his price per square foot was less than a recent quote we'd received for stamped concrete. He visited our home the next week to measure. That's when his creative ideas started to flow. The only thing I said was that I prefer curves to straight lines, and he became a fountain of great ideas. My favorite ... there were many ... was to build a "paver circle" between our front door and the sidewalk to replace the series of three staggared 3.5' square cement pads. Before their work was completed, we received compliments from our neighbors about the circle and how beautiful the whole project was. Hire Samurai Pavers for their quality work and competitive pricing, but don't forget to take advantage of Wayne's free creativity. read more

I contacted Wayne to see if we were within his range of service (I'm in San Jose and he's in San Ramon). He regretfully informed me that we were located too far away as he likes to be present on the job every day. He went on to say that he wished that he knew somebody down here that he trusted that he could direct me toward to give me a good quality bid, but he didn't know anybody in my area. He then so kindly gave me some numbers of what to expect as far as price from another contractor to make sure I was getting a fair price. It's a special and kind person who goes out of their way to help another person when they aren't getting anything in exchange. Thank you, Wayne, for being that kind of person! read more

My Name is Ron I own and Operate Ron's Hauling and Demolition. For the past almost 20 years I have been doing a lot of the concrete demolition and preparation work for Samurai Paving. I do a lot of demolition for other Companies and Wayne Hurt is Bar None sets a high stand for design and workmanship. I should know since I do all the prep work on some of the projects removing subsoil and placing base rock. Also, as for designs I always see the projects when finished by Wayne's Crew and I can say the patterns and border designs are crafted with a lot of thought and Consideration. I recommend you see his work seeing is believing. read more

Wayne and his team did a great job on our paver driveway expansion. Wayne is very good at picturing what colors and designs will look best and providing the best material options. Thanks to Wayne, Luis, and their team we now have a beautiful and inviting backyard pool deck! We love our new outdoor space and we're looking forward to enjoying it just in time for spring and summer. The pavers look so much better than the mishmash of stone we had before. We can see the pool deck from our kitchen and the view now makes washing dishes less cumbersome! Wayne is an excellent communicator and he promptly responds to texts and phone calls. Someday we will install pavers in our front yard and will have Samurai Pavers do the work. read more

I first meet Wayne when he was working for another paving company. I had had a few other companies come out and give me quotes. The other companies would spend little time discussing my project and what was best for our family. Then they would give us some high quote, only to come back later to state that they could lower their price some large amount because they had a lot of left over materials from another job. Wayne then came out and from the start, you could see he was passionate about his work. He took as much time as was needed and covered all of the options for our project. He never made us feel pressured in any way. When we decided to have our project done, he gave us a very fair estimate, which was considerably lower than the others I had worked with. Once the project started, he was there every day to make sure that the project was being performed to his satisfaction. There were times that he would tell his crew to redo some small item that he was not happy with, even though we thought it looked great. He is very specific about the job being done exactly right. He wants it to be done the best it can be done. He has come out and done a number of projects for me now over the years. I refer all of my friends and others to him, and no one has ever regretted having him work on their projects. He once dropped by my house years after a project was finished and told me that he noticed a very little sag in our drive way (we could not see it), and had his crew come out and fix it. This was years after the project, and he pointed it out to us. By the way, this project was done not by the company he now owns, but the company that he used to work for. He made the repairs with his company, for a company he used to work for. I would highly recommend Wayne for any landscape and paver system you are looking to have installed. He is a straight shooter, has great designer skills, has high standards, stands behind his work and will become someone that you will recommend to others! read more

We had our backyard built by Samurai pavers in 2010. We have a difficult layout of small size. Before we spoke to Wayne we had talked to a few landscapers for ideas and quotes. With Wayne we hit it off right away, his ideas were similar to what we had, we loved his energy and was very easy to communicate to. He listened to all our ideas, concerns and suggested what we could and should do with our plan, he also told us about offers the paver companies were running at the time, we ended up getting affordable higher quality pavers because of that. After getting a rough idea he drew up the plan and our quotes started. His quotes were similar to what he had described in the initial meeting. Moreover he was able to tell us in modular sense what it would cost us to add something and take something out. That helped us with our planning the backyard as money was a concern. After refining the plan and working out the cost we asked him to go ahead with building it. We wanted to start small, but as the work started we kept adding things, steps came in, a retaining wall, moved the vegetable garden added lawn etc.. I remember this time when his crew redid our retaining walls few times because we felt it was too big, little things like that. We are very happy with the finished backyard and the price after it was all done. We wished we had done our backyard sooner than last year we could have enjoyed it more. Wayne's crew has returned a few times for repairs, he gives us the same great service even after all this time and after the money equation is gone. read more

We just finished a full back yard remodel with Samurai Paver Systems and are 100% delighted with the results. The owner, Wayne, is a creative and high energy partner in the project, and a kick to work with. His foreman, Luis is a true craftsman, who, along with his crew, nailed every detail of the project. Together, they made the who process fun and helped guide us to the right solutions all along the way. The result- a back yard that exceeded our expectations. There are a lot of larger companies doing paving work (you've seen the ads), but if you are looking for an engaging and conscientious team who take the time to understand your needs and always put your satisfaction first, I can't imagine a better choice than Samurai Paving Systems. Highly recommended! read more

This is a peer review. I am a landscaping contractor since the 1980's and have know Wayne with Samurai since the early 1990's. Wayne and his team did an excellent job for us. We wanted to expand our existing paver footprint by 100%. Because our initial job was done over 15 years ago, Wayne said the new pavers may not match, due to the sun exposure over the past 15+ years. It turned out that our pavers were discontinued. Wayne bought out the existing stock of our pavers and cut the largest of the four sizes for an exact match! The work was seamless, your cant tell that the work was not all done at the same time. The job was done quickly and professionally. We love it! read more

We used this company for driveway pavers and landscaping. They were excellent. We would highly recommend .

Wayne and his team were a complete joy to work with. Wayne came in with the best quote and delivered phenomenal results for our front walkway. He walked us through every step of the process and helped us pick out the perfect pavers for our project. He even through in some additional pathway lighting work at no cost. Thanks Wayne! Hope to use you again in the future! read more

We did a full front yard with raised garden bed, driveway, and backyard remodel with a gracefully curved garden wall that continues around three sides of the house, including a side yard patio featuring the beautifully curved wall which showcases our flowering garden. On the other side of the house, a raised garden bed and sidewalk complete the continuity of design. The quality of the work from start to finish was outstanding. We love the original design that Wayne created just for our home. It was great working with Wayne and his foreman Luis. They took care of every detail of the job to our satisfaction. The hardworking crew completes an outstanding team. The price was honest and fair. We would recommend Samurai Paver Systems to anyone who wants good value for a job done exceptionally well. read more

This company is excellent and is good at it's word. My driveway and porch are gorgeous. My neighbors and friends love the final look. Work was completed on time and within budget. I added a section and they still had it done in a week. Thanks so much! read more

My driveway required lifting of my existing pavers, new gravel underneath and compacting before adding back the existing pavers. I received quotes from others ranging from $12K to $30K. Wayne came out within a day after I called him, did not try to upsell anything or exaggerate the effort involved (like the others) and quoted me $7.5K to do the entire job. His team came out on the date we agreed upon and completed all the work in a week as he promised. My driveway looks great now. All this work was done in November and with all the rain one of the pavers was sinking a bit deeper compared to the others. Called Wayne and his team came out to repair it w/o any issues since it is included in his warranty. Excellent job and standing by his workmanship! Call them before you hire others to get a honest no hassle estimate. read more

We recently had a custom pool built and needed to have our backyard completely redone. After getting some prices and designs from other companies ,we heard about Wayne and Samurai Paving Systems. Wayne s design ideas and personality were exactly the breath of fresh air that we were looking for. We put our trust in him and it payed off with absolute quality, and an incredibly beautiful backyard. Not only did Wayne design and build an incredible paving system for us , he went way beyond the "paver" scope of work to make it complete, like new lawns, plants, irrigation system's, even personally trimming , and shaping our large Japanese maple for us that had been ignored for to little too long. His crew was awesome too, they went out of their way to meet every one of our requests. We are so impressed with Wayne and his crew that we have now contacted him to redo our front yard. My driveway was 9 years old and the pavers started to loosen and rise. I called Samarai Pavers and Wayne accessed the situation and felt confident they could fix the problem. I hired them at a very competitive price and they did a great job. Unfortunately 18 months later the pavers started to loosen again, we have a subterranean issue. I called Wayne and true to his word he came immediately and fixed all the pavers at no charge. Samarai does great work for a great price and they stand behind every paver they install. Samauri Pavers did a patio project for me this month. Everything about the process was easy..and actually fun..thanks to Wayne and his project manager, Luis. Wayne helped me design the patio, and he helped me choose the perfect pavers. The crew arrived every morning and worked a full day until the project was finished. When I had a question, it was answered immediately. I had done due diligence getting three estimates, then happened to notice a paved driveway while on a walk. The homehomer was very happy with Wayne (Samauri), so I called him. His price was less than the other estimates, and I knew immediately when I met Wayne that he would be easy to work with. I love my patio! read more

What can I say, Samurai Paver did an incredible job. Talk about curb appeal. Samurai redesigned our from yard. It went from looking like an abandon lot to looking like something you see on TV. I wish I could post the before and after pictures; you would be impressed. Wayne, worked with my wife to make sure the results was exactly what she wanted. Wayne was incredibly patient and listened to all the wishes. I think he captured exactly what my wife wanted because in the end we were so incredibly pleased. The work was so nice that we won the Presidents award to the nicest front yard in our H.O.A. last Christmas. We highly recommend Samurai Paver systems. You will not only like the work, you will love the results. Chances are you will love working with wayne. He is full of energy and a sea of ideas. We looked at several companies for pavers or stamped concrete for our entire front and back yard. We re-did our pool as well and our pool guy had recommended Samurai Paver Systems. We decided to work with Samurai Pavers because the price was reasonable and Wayne was very likable. He gave us some great ideas to add a circle feature with a fountain and helped us pick out coping for our pool to match the pavers we had picked out. He met us on the weekend and went out of his way to help us choose the right colors and style that would look good in our yard. We are very happy with how it turned out. His team was also very professional and they moved quickly. read more

A word to the wise.... After having extensive work done by Samuari Pavers there was one final section of about 250 square feet. When this area was completed and the pavers installed they did not match the pavers from the prior installation. Wayne, the owner, said they needed to be power washed and they would match. He power washed them, they didn't match. He then said they needed to be sealed and they would match. He Sealed them, they didn't match. He then said that he would have to remove and replace the, and would do so it two or three weeks. This was at the end of May or the first part of June. Multiple phone calls and emails to him were not answered. All I wanted was a date to complete the removal and installation of the new pavers. Finally on October 7th Wayne said he would be here in 2 to 3 weeks. No one showed up. November 3rd Wayne returned my call stating he would be here November 11th or 12th. November 14th he came here with 2 of his crew, looked at the pavers and left without contacting us. I saw them driving out of my driveway. December 18th Wayne said he would have a crew here right after Christmas and for me to be patient... January 8th a crew came and began to remove and replace the pavers. On his web site he states he is "A CHRISTIAN AND A MAN OF MY WORD". I will leave that decision up to you I have no complaints about the work done by his crew, my complaint is that he would not give me the courtesy of returning a phone call or email in a timely manner.. I don't think a delay of 6 months to do the work he said would be done in June is the best business practice.. read more

I recently had my entire front yard done by Wayne and Samurai Pavers. I originally wanted to redo my driveway and walk ways. After meeting with Wayne and getting his creative take on things I decided to have Samurai pavers complete the entire front yard project: pavers, landscape, sprinklers, mailbox, expansion of steps and adding a facade to my front stucco of my house. Wayne and his guys are very easy to work with. They were efficient, polite and clean. Wayne has a wonderful artistic eye and was able to work with me to create a look that compliments everything I wanted. He was very responsive via phone, text or email. He was also very present throughout the project. While the project did cost more than I originally planned there were no surprises. Wayne kept me informed and waited for my agreement before any additional items that would add to the cost. If I wasn't happy with something (like a color I chose) he would change it and make it right until I was happy. I highly recommend Wayne and Samurai Pavers without any hesitation. I drive up to my house everyday and continue to love everything that was done. read more
