We interviewed about seven contractors last year and chose Popescu Construction for our remodel because they seemed to be the most responsive and were definitely the most professional. We were not disappointed. Marius and his team did a great job renovating our bathrooms, dining room, kitchen and part of our living room all before we moved in to our town home. The quote was a one the higher ones but in the end there was wasn't much creep to the quoted price. Which to us means he probably did a pretty honest job with his statement of work and the proposed cost. Oh, his proposal of the ones we received back was easily the most detailed as well. Expecting good craftsmanship and a timely project completion should be a given but is often not. Marius and team delivered there even with some curve balls (we ended up doing more than initially intended) we threw their way. Marius was able to manage all balls in the air and still manage to complete the project within an acceptable timeline. You can't always plan on vendors having sourcing issues on materials. Or having damaged or wrong delivered fixtures or appliances and other random setbacks. But they managed to deal with and remediate all the issues and keep our project moving forward. What we really appreciated was their professionalism, communication and responsiveness. He kept us updated on any project needs or timeline updates.Their ability to manage the project, warn and educate us on potential issues and provide solutions or remediations quickly. What can I say? They were great and if I ever had to do this again, we'd hire him again. We've passed his contact to a few friends and acquaintances already. Now, whether he'd do work for us again? Got quotes from 4 contractors - this was the second most expensive but he said he prioritized quality work and materials. Process started out smoothly but as time went on we realized the quality wasn't there. He repeatedly told us "don't worry, I'll put in something good quality, not something cheap" but that's not what happened. We only have 2 bathrooms - removed our toilets prematurely and didn't provide any type of temporary toilet so the workers urinated all over our bathtub Kitchen: -New sink covered in scratches when they installed it - we had bought a special grate so we wouldn't scratch it but I guess that was unnecessary -Hanging cabinet - screws through the top (visible inside the cabinet) - front of cabinet damaged during installation and the doors hung crooked -Lower cabinet - door was installed on the wrong side so they switched it and left the old holes -Gaps from cabinets to the walls -Countertops - not what we chose - he didn't replace them with what we had chosen and he said free labor for installing about 25 sq feet of vinyl plank (that we purchased the material for) in our closet makes up for it. We had taken one of the cabinet doors to the warehouse to perfectly match the shade of white because we wanted the color to flow seamlessly - now we have off white counters with bright white cabinets. The first thing that catches my eye each day is the yellow-looking countertops against the bright white cabinets. It looks like vinyl plank is $2-$7/sq ft to install - at most that's $175 - I would have rather paid that and had the counters we matched to the cabinets. He saved the cost of material for replacing the countertop as well as the cost of having the countertop uninstalled and reinstalled -Cabinets - these are the cheapest cabinets I've ever seen + the drawers wobble. He had selected a nice set at Granite Expo, but then said they didn't make them small enough so he bought the cheapest cabinets they sell at Home Depot and said they were the only ones who offered cabinets small enough. We checked Home Depot and they also offer many well-rated, mid grade options in this cabinet size. The brand he originally included on the estimate did end up in the bathrooms and we can feel a significant difference in quality - the quality should have been matched when he selected a replacement cabinet. -Shelves in the lower cabinets are 1/3 of the cabinet depth - we told him we couldn't sacrifice any storage space - he assured us it would be fixed, but it wasn't Bathrooms: -Damaged our new mirrors with gashes -Damaged vanity - gash in the side that they tried to patch -Edges unfinished on medicine cabinets + large gap on the top that's left open looking into the wall -Left gaps from cabinets to walls -Swapped toilet for a round one (this is not what we had before and not what we wanted - it dates our newly remodeled bathroom) -Damaged shower tiles - there are black marks in some tiles that look like a tool marked them up (we tried to scrub them with many different products). -Quoted frameless shower doors, but installed framed shower doors - the doors that were installed look nice, but they're a cheaper option than what was paid for Living Room: -Removed our cable outlet so now we no longer have the option of cable or modem in our living room - he said he would fix this, but didn't -Black flaw in white fireplace tile Paint: They ran out of paint so they left a section of our bedroom closet unpainted - he said he would take care of it, but he changed his mind - we had to spend $70 on the matching paint to do it ourselves (the store only offered a gallon) Items thrown away that we planned to keep: Blinds (told us to go buy the same ones we had, install them ourselves, and send him the receipt - we did and then he complained) Ceiling fan - threw it in the garbage and installed nothing to replace it Entryway: Lumpy walls - we brought it up multiple times before they came back to try to repair it - we had to paint (and primer) over all of the patches ourselves since they had none left Marius' dad told us that the other lumps are because nails were used for installing the sheet rock and they back out - he said that's a dated installation method and screws are used for these types of projects now - he didn't realize that it was their guys who installed the sheet rock. We had replaced that same sheetrock about 3 years prior and it had been installed with screws. Marius tried to tell us that because he unexpectedly had to texture some of the ceilings, we came out ahead, but the whole ceilings wouldn't have needed texture if quality subcontractors had been used. We had hired a quality drywall guy twice over the last couple of years that was able to match prior texture seamlessly on patched areas. Tip: Wait to make the final payment until they repair/replace all of the items that will inevitably have been damaged throughout the process read more

We decided to remodel our kitchen and our bathroom, and after looking around we found Marius. The quote came in and we liked it, it wasn't cheap, but it was almost double of what we paid for a similar renovation couple of years ago. However, after speaking to Marius we were convinced to hand over the project to him. The renovation was supposed to begin in June and we started this journey in Feb. This tremendously helped. Marius pointed us to the right vendors to purchase material and the vendors were of excellent quality. June came and renovation began right on time. The entire project took 2 months to finish, we handed off our house keys to Marius and went on vacation for summer. The results were amazing when we returned. This is a review of Fanica's work for our kitchen, wood floor installation and interior house painting. Fanica made our construction projects so much easier to handle! He may not be cheap, but he made everything worth it in the end. We love him because he wants everything that he works on to be very good, even if it means more work for him. Although sometimes, more work means more $$, often times, he gave us discount for some of the work. I requested 5 different quotes to do my kitchen remodel and Fanica was in the middle in terms of pricing and just a tad more expensive than another guy that we were considering. We threw out the cheapest, unreliable estimate from another guy (as you should). We can trust Fanica, which is very important. We leave them alone at the house while we ran some errands all day and we get back to a clean house at the end of the day. They clean up their mess every single day when they are finished. That is just beyond "above and beyond"! I am so fortunate to have found him. Our kitchen has Dura Supreme custom cabinetry, Vent-a-hood and Miele appliances. Yes, those are very expensive and we whole-heartedly trusted him with all of those to install! Very hard to do with other contractors. We love Fanica, Lucas and his son Marius. They are such friendly and honest people. If you are picky like us where a small tilt in tile installation bugs the heck out of you, then your search is over. These guys are really great with their work and will do their best to make their clients happy. He even bought my toddler a sweet gift one day. And she loves Fanica and Marius. We always get multiple estimates for our projects and we are looking to get some quotes for our master bathroom since we have another contractor that was close to Fanica's quality of work for a bit cheaper, but I wouldn't be surprised if we went with Fanica/Popescu again. They even helped find best prices for supplies. During demo we made a last-minute decision to expand the scope of work to close a secondary fireplace that opens to the kitchen. Popescu Construction has been my contractor of choice for all my home repairs, and improvements for years. The reasons for my choice are: the outstanding quality of work, unique attention to detail, positive work ethic and discipline, honesty and integrity. These traits are rather rare nowadays, when finding a reliable contractor is generally a lengthier and more painful process than having to cope with extensive home repairs or improvements. I just recently rehired Popescu Construction to paint the exterior of my house, and do some wood repair. The whole job was completed in less than a week, and no square inch of my house was left untouched and unchecked. Primer was applied where needed, and some areas had seen more than a couple of layers of paint for a uniform look and coating. In the end, my house became probably the most attractive in my neighborhood, and the crew ensured to clean the whole site to great detail. Marius and his crew did a wonderful job on our partial kitchen remodel and flooring on the first floor. Although it look a bit longer than he originally thought, it was due to no fault of his - just a surprise when his crew started to pull up the flooring. And the whole thing was still completed in 2 weeks. The best was that he had a cleaning person come in and clean the dust in our ENTIRE house! One of the worst things about having construction done is dealing with the dust afterwards so it was a huge bonus to have someone take care of that. The first was for installing wooden floors in the kitchen and the other was to change the kitchen countertop from tile to granite. We did a complete knock down to the studs and Fanica (or his sub-contractors) did electrical, plumbing, cabinet install, tile work, painting, and even replaced an 8 foot patio door. He consistently took the time to meet with me (even in the evenings or on the weekend, sometimes) to discuss project progress, decision points, and give recommendations. Very sad to say I called this number on Yelp which happens to be a cell phone number. The guy who picked up did not say the business name, in fact I had to ask and he was very short with me. Additionally he was ticked my number was blocked. I gave my cell phone number which he didn't seem to write down anyways. I mentioned redoing my kitchen and what work I needed, which he don't even ask for the reason of my call. Additionally said they weren't taking appointments til February. Very off putting but I understand you may just be busy. I am hopeful that if I had a bigger project I would have been more satisfied. Based on the Yelp reviews, I phone Fani to arrange for him to replace the faucet knob on my shower, sink and to put on a new shower head. Additionally, I needed him to secure my gate by replacing a single existing bolt and applying some epoxy, which were his recommendations. I paid $225 for all jobs, only to have the same loose gate a month later. When I called to explain how the problem persisted, Fani made another minor recommendation and quoted me $125 more. NO, THANK YOU! Yes, Fani was personable and respectful by removing his shoes in my home, but I doubt I will call him again. read more

My wife and I have known Fani for over 10 years now - and he's been our contractor of choice for that entire time on 2 different houses. One of the great things about Fani is his skills are wide-ranging -- no job is too difficult or too small.
