Last night my dad and I were looking for a good Japanese place close by so we decided to try out Samurai Kitchen. The whole time that I've lived in corona I've always passed this place without knowing it was there! The restaurant itself is small and a little dingy we decided not to eat there. But the sushi roll was honestly the star of the show! It was so flavorful and had the right consistencies that you'd want in sushi! The beef teriyaki plate was also pretty good the beef was nice and tender with delicious sauce. My dad got the chicken teriyaki plate and he thought the beef dish was much better, he said the chicken was dry and the best part of his dish was the rice. The plate came with a fresh salad but the sauce they gave with it is thousand islands, I wish they had a choice for a vinaigrette because the thousand island just tasted like mayo.

I finally tried this place after years of passing by it. I would say I would give it a 3.7 stars. Value for the price just wasn't there. I order the combo meal with chicken beef over a bed of rice with a little salad. It was close to $10 with no drink. Food was fresh and tasted good. I was given very little meat. Just a thin layer sprinkled on top of the rice. You get so much more meat at MOS 2 or even as WABA. Salad was just spring mix possibly out of a box. What was not okay is that I asked for teriyaki and they wanted 90 cents for a small little container?! That is like being charged for ketchup for your fries! I would not come back unless it was like 50% off.

Right off the bat, I love looking for hole in the wall establishments and I love sushi. The sushi quality is not half bad. The price isn't unreasonable either. Roll was delicious. I didn't quite care for the soy sauce provided as I prefer kikkoman. But to each their own. The beef in the Ramen had a sweet flavor too it and the Udon noodles were soft and flavorful. But I feel as if all the flavor stuck to the noodles and beef and not much in the broth itself. Which isn't bad if you eat it together. And I kinda wish the beef was left in bigger pieces in the ramen so it would be easier to grab with the chopstick. Was cut into very small pieces. I would recommend to give this place a try and decide for yourself. Be aware though they don't take time to prepare your food. Just means it comes to your hands fresh.

Super Bowl. It's kind of lacking rice.

Once upon a time I was a huge fan of this place when it was called "Minkane Teriyaki House". I literally would go in at least 4 times a week just to eat there. Unfortunately this place is now owned by that woman's brother (or husband, not sure). Ever since this place swapped ownership and chefs I have been coming here less and less. At Minkane Teriyaki House I usually ordered tofu tempura with a small side of vegetable chow mein and steamed rice and received a complimentary miso soup. I went back to samurai kitchen and asked for the same order and not only was it a tad bot more expensive it was poorly made. I was heart broken. The tempura was bland and super soggy and the tofu inside was not cooked nor warm. It was just awful. Since than, many friends have gone (since I practically lived there) and said the same, it was awful. Moving forward, another item I would get is a super or rose bowl which is beef chicken veggie bowl topped with tempura chips and a tempura shrimp on top with a side of a avocado roll. The bowls are the same just a bit overcooked but nothing to complain about. The avocado roll looked awful. The avocado itself was rubbery and tasted nothing like an avocado. I ended up just picking it out and eating the nori and rice. It wasn't rolled neatly, looked completely sloppy and could use a lot of work. The price for these items were pretty decent roughly about a $8 meal so I guess I can't complain too much once again.... Heavy on the I guess... I go here about every once in a blue moon when I want a quick teriyaki fix but I no longer recommend this place to friends which is really heart breaking. The new staff and chef are sweet but lack a unique punch that drives a loyal customer to come back. I feel that they also lack good communication skills and can be very awkward at times. Overall, I just wish this location remained as Minkane Teriyaki House and had the same cook. Not only was she a sweetheart but made her plates with love and beautifully plated everything. I think it was a huge mistake for her to go and let a family member take over since the food is prepared in poor quality.

Yoshioishi Sushi & Ramen had solid reviews, so we decided to pivot and give it a try. First impression: the menu is extensive. It's one of those places where you almost don't know where to start. The fan favorites are marked with a red flower, which helped narrow things down. We also asked our server for suggestions, which made it easier to navigate. We arrived just before 5pm and there was only one other table. We were told to sit anywhere we'd like. By the time we left, the restaurant was filling up and it seemed like there were quite a few regulars coming in. Here's what we tried: Salted edamame: Just average. A bit limp and not as crisp as I'm used to, so they didn't feel especially fresh. Gyoza: Really nice flavor and the dipping sauce was well balanced. These were solid. Yellowtail jalapeño sashimi: This was different in a good way. It had cilantro and a slightly sweeter sauce instead of the traditional garlic ponzu. Unexpected, but a pleasant surprise. Crispy chicken karaage: Slightly over fried but still flavorful. The dipping sauce helped. Crispy rice with spicy tuna: Just okay. One piece barely had tuna on top. Not bad, but not something I'd reorder. Cucumber salad: Served on a bed of iceberg lettuce, which surprised us, but the dressing had great flavor. This disappeared quickly. Nigiri: The salmon was incredibly fresh and one of the highlights. The albacore and toro came topped with fresh wasabi, which was a nice touch. We really enjoyed the salmon and albacore. The toro didn't quite melt in your mouth like we hoped. It was a bit chewy. Crazy Salmon Roll: Good flavor, but note that the salmon on the outside is fully cooked. We expected raw, so just something to keep in mind. Snow Mountain Roll: A fan favorite at the table. Great texture and flavor. Plain udon and plain ramen: Both were excellent. The broth was rich and flavorful, the noodles were cooked perfectly, and the portions were generous. We definitely over ordered, but we left very full. One small detail for fellow tea lovers: I always look forward to hot tea at a Japanese restaurant, especially when it's served in a small pot you can refill at the table. Here it was hot water with a tea bag in a metal cup, which was too hot to comfortably hold, and there was no teapot provided. Not a deal breaker, but next time I'd probably skip the tea. Service was strong. In addition to our main server, two other team members checked in and refilled water regularly, which we appreciated. Overall, I'd call it a 3.5 if that were an option, so I'm landing at 3 stars. The food was decent, the atmosphere comfortable, and the service attentive. It didn't completely wow us, but we're glad we tried it.

They have an impressive menu, very diverse. I like that you can order either large sushi rolls, or the smaller, Happy Hour, 5 pc. size so you can try more and not hate yourself as much when you waddle out the door. The rolls are beautifully made, made with very fresh ingredients, the ratio of rice to filling is perfect (i.e. not too much rice), and the rice is nicely flavored. Their tempura has great flavor, the poke salad is outstanding, the miso soup is rich, not watered down, but the biggest "prize" IMHO is the fish collar (kama), either salmon or hamachi. Here is where you separate the men from the boys. They do not sell old kama that has come from a food supplier's bag, frozen. They only use fresh, the same quality as their sushi, because it comes from the same whole fish they have selected to filet for sushi. Taste it and you know you have hit the jackpot. Before they broil it, they simply slather Japanese mayo on it and salt & pepper. There is something about the mayo that makes it sing a whole new tune. The kama is moist, tender, and comes with their tasty, house ponzu sauce. It's a real treat. Bonus points for being very reasonably priced relative to other sushi houses and they tend to be larger as well. To take advantage of the Happy Hour menu, it is available every day of the week. Monday through Thursday until 7pm, Friday through Sunday until 5 pm. It's an abbreviated menu but has great choices, fairly priced. Their service is tops, seating is limited (probably not more than 40), the interior is warm and quaint, and parking is no problem. And don't forget to respond to their friendly farewell with a duplicate, heartfelt "See you tomorrow" as you leave! Enjoy!

NOT! grilled and again, bland The only item that had some kind of flavor was the vegetables. Adding insult to injury, you should've seen the bill !!!!! We were sitting at the bar yesterday evening and a rude customer had treated the female staff poorly and caused a scene, the general manager handled the aggressive customer with grace and respect. We come here often and we hate to see the staff be treated that way.. the restaurant was clearly very busy (as they can be during the summer rush) and the staff was doing their best and apologetic towards the guests until the husband got agitated and aggressive. The GM had kindly attempted to deescalate the situation but was met with disrespect.

This review is long overdue…read more I've been coming here on and off for the past two years since moving to the area, and every time I give the sushi another chance, it disappoints. This last visit (April 18) was the worst yet. The drinks are actually great, the bartenders know what they're doing. That's the only redeeming part of this place. Now the sushi... completely different story. It took an hour to get a lobster roll, and what showed up had little to no lobster. It was mostly shrimp, not even a mix, and to make it worse, there was visible shrimp vein (yes, the poop tract) still in it. Completely unacceptable, especially for something being sold as a lobster roll. (See photo.) It also took another hour to get just three types of sushi, and the yellowtail was cut poorly, chewy and full of muscle, not clean or fresh. At this point, this isn't a one-off experience, it's a pattern. I've given this place multiple chances, and the food quality and timing consistently miss the mark. If you want good sushi, skip this place. If you want solid cocktails, sit at the bar and leave it at that.

We stumbled upon Rakki when we first moved to Chino Hills in 2023, and took a break from coming when our son was in the oven. It was definitely our go to Sushi spot when we had the energy to make it out there. We loved the various choices of nigiri, sushi rolls and even the appetizers. Shortly before they closed, the owner even gave us a complimentary yellowtail collar which was absolutely delicious, amazingly flavorful and super juicy (we never ordered this previously, since we always went with the AYCE option). The AYCE was very reasonably priced for what you got, and could be considered on the very cheap end, for quality of the food you got and options available. Rakki Sushi got high praises from our foodie friends who would visit us as well. The chef and staff were always super nice, they always came to check on how we were doing when they weren't too overwhelmed with the busyness, and we loved how super friendly they were. Our son loved the staff as well, and he always gave them smiles back in response to theirs. The ambience was more of a local/casual sushi spot, rather than somewhere fancy, which my wife and I greatly enjoyed since we like dressing comfortably in just t-shirts and joggers. The tables, seats, and utensils were always clean when we went there. The men's restroom wasn't the cleanest looking, but given the location it was understandable. Plus, we were there for the food, and not really to strictly use the restroom. We greatly miss you Rakki Sushi and hope you are able to come back one day!

The place didn't look like much from the outside -- a little run down in an older strip mall. But you can't judge a restaurant from the facade. I wouldn't say it's the best sushi I've ever had -- it's not. But for an AYCE place -- wow, it's pretty good. My previous favorite place was tomikawa in Irvine, but this place might be better. All the sushi we had was pretty fresh. And the other stuff we had such as jalapeno poppers and gyoza were very flavorful and tasty. The baked scallop could have been a little less runny, but the flavor was very good. The pieces of sushi are all very small -- I provide a picture with my index finger for perspective. Since the place is AYCE, this isn't a diss... Just something you should know. So if you think you want 4 large pieces of sushi, you might order 6 or even 8 here. In a way, I actually liked the smaller pieces, as they're easier to pop in your mouth and chew, and you can easily order a lot of different kinds to try without worrying that you can't finish all of them. The only thing missing is udon or ramen. I like to finish off a meal with a little warm noodles, and that's a notable miss. I'm not sure it's totally worth a deliberate trip from Irvine ... But we're definitely going to stop by any time we're in the area.
