My 13yo boy begged to go to this comic store even though it was a 25min drive. I'm not really into comics but like to be a 'cool mom'. Once we were there, my kids scattered, checking out all the STUFF!! It's a pretty cool store-- a few mins in, I was approached by an employee/owner? Idk, wish I would have caught his name. He very kindly let me know the comics my boy was looking at were VERY graphic for violence and even had a terrible grape part in one of the stories. I ended up telling my son he could not purchase those particular comics. He had tears in his eyes, mostly I think he was embarrassed but just in that RIGHT moment-- a fellow employee handed him Absolute Batman! Such a better choice and he even described some of the story to get him interested. Instead of my boy, spending his money on inappropriate comics. Samurai Comics caught my eye, and I had to stop in and check it out. It's a fairly large store. Though, the parking lot is a bit small for all the businesses there. I was greeted as I came into the store. Pretty cool store with lots of comic books, figurines, anime, D&D, card games, gaming tables, etc. read more

store employees don't know how to talk to customers. Especially those who collect stuff like trading cards. Recommend collectors marketplace a mile to the east. Very friendly and talk to customers like they appreciate their business. read more

Customer service stinks. Yeah yall have a great selection but it's not worth interacting with your employees. The two male employees couldn't locate my paid for items and then blamed me. I must've ordered it to be delivered to my house. Oh the second order? There's only one here in the computer.... "I don't know" So I sit down to figure it out on my own .... and locate my transactions for BOTH orders and take it to the front desk again but the second male employee couldn't even listen to what I was saying... "whoa whoa whoa... what is your name?" So I leave the front desk to let them figure it out. It turns out both orders were there, paid for and waiting for me to pick them up. Coming to this store and having face to face interactions with rude employees isn't worth the gas money. I'll go somewhere else read more

Friendly staff with a good selection of comics. They carry both new and vintage comics. It's a vive in here.

This is one of the best comic book/ geek place I've ever been too. The workers were engaged and funny, and actually acted like they wanted our business which is rare in the comic book world. I've stopped in a few times over the past month with my kids who are building pokemon binders/decks. Every time I've been in and have asked about pokemon, I've been met with rudeness and contempt. I don't get it, do they not want to sell this type of product to people? Because that's the way that they behave. Be warned that if you go on Sundays, they will refuse to pull out the Pokémon binders to allow you to look through them . They claim they are too busy on Sundays to allow the binders to come out, even though I have been there on several Sundays where we are the only people in the store. We're there as a family to have fun and enjoy ourselves and yet these people act as though it's a huge imposition to help the customers . There are plenty of other comic book stores in the valley who will treat their customers much better. I recommend going to those.was read more

I was really trying support a local business and their people and avoid the big megastores online. I made two separate orders for 3 omnibus books. Samurai Phoenix thought it was a great idea to very poorly stuff all 3 hardcover books into one box. Only 1 of my books arrived undamaged. One book was slightly damaged and the other book was seriously damaged to the point I could not get back what I spent at this shop if I tried to sell it myself. I spent over $500 here and I expected all my books to arrive undamaged. The shipping box itself had zero signs of damage so the shipping company was not at fault here. I regret spending money here and I wish I took my business somewhere else. read more

Used to come to Samurai Comics for years when I played card games. Was stopping in to buy my wife some stuff and I stood at the counter for 20 minutes while being ignored and he kept helping people new in line. Finally the last guy said are you going to help him and he looks at me and says no he doesn't want anything. I proceeded to tell him there were several things I wanted. He then passed me off to another employee and gave me an eyeroll. This was Saturday and won't ever buy product again from them. read more

I live in the neighbor and always wanted to go into Samurai comics but just never had the time,honestly after this experience I wish I never did. The name and look of the store (comic posters and the "we sell fun" writing on the front) was appealing but now Samurai comics will forever remind me of a negative experience I had. I excitedly arrive and walked in, I asked the representative (I wish I got his name) if they had any "magic the Gathering items". Apparently he didn't like the word "items" as just stared at me blankly and waved his hand for me to continue, I then asked "do you have any Magic the gathering merchandise." He gives me an annoyed look then proceeds to tell me all the merchandise they have OUT of stock or USED to sell then tells me about everything they have in stock and points to a wall. (I simply wanted to be pointed in the direction of the Magic the Gathering items in the first place.) During his patronizing response, I walk away to examine the items and he follows me over. He continues to belittle me saying "I was looking for a specific response of what you wanted so I didn't have to give you a full overview." He then sets a command deck in front of me and tells me to read the back of it. His lack of customer service and behavior is frightening ... I respond "thank you." And he walks away... his coworker and other shoppers are shocked but doesn't say anything. I stand in sadness for a few moments thinking about what I did wrong to deserve this treatment and then walk out of the store without any further interactions. My main purpose for this post is to warn others about what might happen to them when casually shopping at this store. I've been to other game shops and never been treated this low before. If you do go here, it may be best to have a specific item to reference. If you are trying to shop casually or looking for an actual place that "sells fun" go to Gamers Guild Tempe Az. Edit* Also, I read the other reviews and it seems this is an ongoing problem with this specific representative. Avoid at all cost as the business has not corrected this employees behavior over the past years. Avoid at all cost or Buyer beware. Stay well everyone. read more

Love this place! Always have! Best selection! Love the YouTube live sales! Love the fact they save your comic book picks for 3 months. Love the ComicHub app integration(even if the app is a little unrefined). Lastly, I wanna address the reviews slamming the clerks. Before they knew me, I felt I was treated with the required amount of customer service: "hello/welcome, can I help you find anything, have a good day, etc." ...I don't expect much as a customer. But now that they know me, I get the added side conversations which makes me feel v welcomed! Don't be a stranger! -edit- Also, if you're there on a Tuesday grabbing comics off the table for the LiveSale for that evening, don't be surprised if they stop you because those comics haven't been released for sale yet and I'm sure they would kindly explain this to you if this forgivable mistake happened. I'd prefer to give this place a 4 or maybe a 4 1/2 after not having stopped in here for well over a year. Fortunately, they still have a great selection, wide array of different comics, and a decent collection of cards. However, the two guys working here are just miserable. This is also evidenced in other reviews; why they are grumpy who knows? Lots of "I don't know man" or they cannot even acknowledge a thank you or simple question about certain items. While they seemed to care about adults not cursing when kids are around, they are terrible with adults themselves. In this day and age, even pretending to be nice is much better than contributing to the misery that pervades much of Phoenix as it is. Perhaps when they aren't so gloomy and annoyed, my review will change and others may rate them more favorably. read more

I really wish this shop could be my go to for comics but unfortunately I just can't stand walking in each time to see the unwelcoming face of that guy behind the counter with glasses, sorry I don't catch the name nor do I really want it at this point. Not only is he unwelcoming literally ever day I go in, he's rude. He won't make eye contact with me for any question. He doesn't greet you when you approach the counter or walk in. I've let it slide literately a handful of times in case he was just having a day, clearly not. Each time I go in I spend around $20-$40, the least I can get is good customer service. I brought my brother in there with me this last time and he was even rude to him. IM BRINGING IN A NEW CUSTOMER lol - I hope you know this isn't the only comic shop in town.... Samurai comics is one of the best businesses out there. Bar none. They are always willing to help the customer and search between their four amazing stores to help find that one thing you are looking for. Pair that with the fact that they have a live sale every Tuesday to show you what is dropping this week it truly makes the experience fantastic. On top of all that, the owners are very involved and helpful. If you are into Funko, Card games, Manga, or most importantly comics this is the place to go. read more

My nephew and I had popped into Samurai Comics once before and the customer service was terrible. The two guys who work there seem to not care about anyone else. Not a hello or a may I help you. Fortunately we knew what we were looking for and found it.. as we were checking out my nephew ( who has autism and speaks a certain way) asked for yu-gio cards.. The thin dude w the glasses was snapping and being very rude to my nephew I snapped right back at him and told him off. I can honestly say I will never come back. I had the same experience the last time a the other guy behind the counter. I thought we would have a different experience this time. I was wrong. I will never come back. read more

At the end of the day it's their business but thought I'd throw this out there. Just walked into the store a little over an hour and fifteen minutes before close and asked if they do trade in for Pokémon cards every day or on specific days. The guy looks at me like I'm an asshole and says "well we do them every day but I'm not going to do one right now. it's a mess back here and we are about to close so I don't have time to go through a whole collection" i just stood there with my stack of about a dozen cards (not a whole collection) kindve shocked that someone would treat a potential, as well as previous customer so poorly. I called into Samurai comics at this location, requested to hold two books. I was told no problem and that they would be behind the counter. When I arrived (1-hour later) both gentleman acted as if they had no idea what I was talking about. The comics were sitting on the rack (which is garbage, that rack jacks up the bottom of the books). I went to grab the image comic A & B of the #1 issue, also grabbed a second set for a friend since its during work hours. Also grabbed a couple other books while I'm at it. I go to pay... dude starts looking at me and says "ahhhhh I can't let you get more than 1 issue of this comic" then tosses it on the counter like its trash. I then in return say "it's a double issue A & B I need both". He then tosses the 2nd copy of the counter. At this point I'm just blown away by this person who has no business in customer service. He then looks at me with a smirk on his face and says "you get what I'm saying, right". I say "loud and clear". I really wanted to say "this is hands down the worse comic shop in town". So with that being said... don't ever expect this place to hold your comics and also remember just take one! read more
