Had lunch with friends and I was very dissatisfied. Ordered a soup,salad and 1/2 sandwich combo. The soup had an excessive amount of salt. The salad was just eh. Samuel Owens is a neighborhood restaurant & bar in an older corner house in Coplay. Caesar salad with grilled chicken breast for lunch was pretty good. Homemade banana cake with PB frosting was large serving and tasted like coconut was added. read more

We had an excellent experience at Samuel Owens today in Coplay. The crab fries are fresh cut and absolutely loaded with crab claw meat. The cheese sauce is made in house and certainly was enjoyed. The suicide wings didn't have me contemplating self harm, but they were crispy and cooked properly. The suicide sauce was more like a medium to my palate, but it was however a good sauce. The wings I would consider an excellent example of a traditional Buffalo wing. If an alien landed in Coplay, and wanted to taste a wing, I would recommend these as a standard baseline. I look forward to sampling the other several flavors they offer. The seafood bisque was delicious! It was also loaded with seafood. This is something I would probably order on every future visit. I would consider it one of the better soups I have had outside of my own kitchen. The pickle pieroges are of the "church quality" and also something I would order every visit . They said they get their pieroges from Saint John 's church. With all the Lithuanian and Ukrainian history and influence in this area, you can bet these are solid pierogies. Dined there last evening with three others. First thing I noticed was that the tables are too close together. Where we were seated was, literally, less than two feet from the neighboring table. I ordered the broiled haddock au gratin with choice of two sides (corn and mashed potatoes) and chili. Chili was excellent. Haddock was a little bland, mashed potatoes were very good. Walking back to the car I realized that I never received the corn. One, in the party, ordered a ceasar salad. Never thought to order the salad without onions since we never heard of a ceasar salad that came with onions. The above, that I pointed out, would not deter me from returning but I'd have to pay a little more attention to what I order. One more thing: I don't know if I missed a sign when I was coming in but I didn't know that there would be an added charge to your bill if you paid by credit card. Love this little bar/restaurant in Coplay! It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's a pleasant spot to grab some drinks and bar food in this small borough. They have lbs. of clams available daily, which is a hard find anymore in the Lehigh Valley. The bartenders are always so sweet and they make some fun drink specials weekly. My companion got on her phone to see what was nearby and this place popped up. We parked pretty close to the statue of Saquan Barkley.....very proud of a local product doing so well. We walk in....nice....quiet.... somewhat populated yet not too crowded....the aspect that made me smile the most: The Pittsburgh professional sports teams paraphernalia covering the walls....Steeler AND Pirates. Longtime fan of both....I get tired of seeing those wretched Philadelphia/NY teams pendants/posters/shirts. I realize I've found my spot. Menu is unique....NOT pretentious like so many other restaurants....just unique. This place has figured it out! Do the basics well don't try to change classic recipes and provide a warm welcoming atmosphere... That's all that's needed for the recipe of success yet so few do it. I was really excited to try this place and had been wanting to go for a while. Unfortunately, I was kind of disappointed. I got the grilled chicken salad, it was good but only had a few strips of chicken. The French onion soup had good flavor but was lacking the browned toasty cheese. My niece got the chicken parm and on the first cut into it noticed it was still raw in the middle. They were quick to return with a new one but of course her appetite was ruined. When the waitress approached us after eating half of our food and asked how it was, I mentioned it was good but the food was lukewarm. She said that wasn't true but would give me the potatoes because they were sitting etc. She was somewhat defensive, belligerent and insinuated I/we were lying. To make matters worse, when she approached us after we were done, she asked us if we were done or if we wanted to sit and "nitpick" more. My friend looked at her and said "Nitpick?" to which she said "I mean pick." And, we never wanted anything but just wanted to let her know the food was lukewarm. The audacity of this woman is beyond appalling. She should be fired. I've been frequenting Samuel Owens fairly often within the past year or so. The food that I have is always good. Their burgers are great, their wings are even better. In time, I have sat both in the bar area as well as the dining room. Both are enjoyable experiences, the waitresses could be a little friendlier and it'd be nice for a hostess to greet you upon arrival so you don't have to stand at the entrance to feel watched by everyone until you get seated. read more

Crab Fries, these aren't that BS you get from that crap chain place that is now in downtown atown, these fries come with REAL crabmeat, AMAZING!!! So my friend and I ate at Sam Owens 6 months ago cause it was great, then like two weeks in a row the famous Seafood soup was inedible cause it was over salted, the fries where bad it was like they had a cook that cared and a cook that didn't. so about a month ago we went back and it was great The Seafood soup was chunky had a lot fish and shrimp in it the fries where great again, then this week 08/21/2016 the soup was inedible again we sent it back and got vegetable barley which was ok, the lump crab meat in butter was good and fries where spot on,but which cook is going to be there next week, we aren't gonna play good cook bad cook we know of too many good places there are consistent! read more

The inside apperance reminds me of my grandmas. Paintings Hung all around with out door scenery (birds,deer, cabins,woods, etc.) Pretty lame. But I always go back. Really really really good lobster cakes and stuffed baked potatoes. This place is great because they also serve breakfast annnnd do delivery. I choose Sam Owens the majority of the time when I just don't feel like making dinner. This is one of the few places everyone in my family actually enjoys the food with no complaints.
