I hit up yelp to find me a place to eat and this was the spot yelp led me too. Yelp did a good job on this one because this place was very good. I had the Pittsburgher with a French Onion Soup. The burger was fantastic but the French Onion soup was even more fantastic. I absolutely loved the soup. My partner had some pulled pork sandwiche or something which was great but my two picks was very great picks for me. My food decision making that night was on point. Food was great, service was awesome, but the beer was expensive. I would've gave this spot a five star if it wasn't so pricey but all in all, I was satisfied. I had my husbands 40th birthday over the weekend here and it was fantastic! Chelsea did a great job helping me plan and getting everything situated for us. Warren was wonderful, as usual, slinging drinks all night keeping the 60 people there very happy. The atmosphere, food and service were 10/10! I've had people all week commenting on how wonderful the night was! If you're looking for a great space with excellent staff, affordable and good food - try this place. I love this joint! Being from Pittsburgh, I really missed Primanti Bros. sandwiches. So when I stopped in here and saw "The Pittsburger" I was willing to try it. Instead of the burger, I got the pulled pork Pittsburg Style [french fries and cole-slaw ON the sammich!] They have like 10 flavors of BBQ sauce and I got the Spicy and it was perfect. If you don't ask for Pittsburgh style, the fries & slaw will come on the side. No problem [the one and only time it happened] as I just built it right there at the bar while watching the Penguins. This is a definite sports bar joint and the regulars are serious about their teams. Except that they don't have Iron City beer, this is as close as you'll come to a Burgh bar in McKeesport [or any of the boros] so have a Yuengling...! read more

Don't support this business! Went there for football Sunday Steelers/Eagles, a person wearing an Eagles Jersey was not welcome and asked to leave. Really??? What fun would football be if everyone like the same team? They lost business of 15 people both Steelers and Eagles fans, all friends who met to watch the game together eat and drink and have fun. All of us left, and went to the Willow Street. At the Willow Street Pub you can wear any Jersey and are always welcome to cheer for your team. Awful place. The owner is a liar and very rude. He lied to me and said the mayor paid for the back room. However, the mayor told all the Steelers fans he didn't pay a thing to be in the back room. On FB he posted Eagles fans welcome they were not welcome in the back room with the mayor who is a Steelers fan. All the Eagles fans were kicked out. He didn't care. We came in hungry after hitting the slopes over at Blue Mountain and everyone was really pleased with the speed at which the food came out, and how tasty everything was. I got the Gin Mill Protein salad with ranch on the side, and I didn't even end up using the dressing as I got my salad with chip steak and it was flavorful enough as-is. I've come here two Wednesday nights in a row just for wings. 25% off wings every Wednesday night with lots of sauce flavors to choose from. Asian zing and spicy garlic are my personal favorite. The Cubano tots are also amazing and so full of toppings. The wait staff is always so friendly and efficient and food comes out quickly and tastes fresh. The food stands on its own. Flavorful, and right on point. If this restaurant had to be carried on its food alone (aka the chef) it would thrive. If this restaurant could only survive based on its customer service, it would perrish. Reason for two stars: the service was uncalled for. Female bartender (no name tag) only clearly defined staff on duty at the time of my visit (besides chef I never saw). She was snappy from the git. Every time I needed something I had to practically beg for it. At one point I almost asked her if I had pissed her off in someway but didn't want to aggravate her further just Incase she was having "that time of the month" or something. I ended up reseating myself to another side of the bar to see the TVs better and what I actually say was the reason for her neglect. Not sure if its because they were all good looking guys, or because they were locals. Maybe this was a "respect had to be earned, so no one gets any just walking through the door" kind of place, but like I said, uncalled for. All her attention was on the only other patrons (4 of them) in the bar. Just wanted to warn anyone debating. I know this town isn't very big, but maybe try another place first. Good luck. read more

They must be doing very well, because they certainly didn't want my money. I decided to stop in for a beer after work. I sat at the bar, which was about two-thirds seated and one-third empty. The bartender acted like she was slammed and walked past me several times without making eye contact or saying anything, then two more bartenders came out of the rear bar room and the three of them stood around the cash register talking. My first time here. I had not heard anything negative about this place, so why not? The bartender was was top tier service. He took the time to tell me his favorite wings. I told him I wanted the hottest available and he made an excellent suggestion and provided me with some other sauces on the side. The XXX wings with the inferno sauce added were hot and good. This place is great. We have frequently enjoyed coming for a beer or food, but recently turned to The Gin Mill to host my father's funeral celebration. We had TGM cater the event and opted for an open bar. The entire staff was awesome. The food was great, the service was excellent. The Gin Mill is a great venue for a show. The sound quality is great, which isn't always easy to achieve for a metal/hardcore show (in this case, Otep). The stage and the lighting were cool looking as well. The space is confined but large enough for a smaller show. Everyone was able to move around without feeling like sardines in a can. The venue offers a large variety of food and beverages. The restaurant space is separated from the music space by a door/wall. The restaurant itself features bar seating, booths, and outdoor seating. The food was pretty good and reasonably priced for bar fare. The parking is very limited. There is a small private lot for the bar patrons that fills up very quickly (maybe 10-15 spots). However there are a lot of small roads and alleys nearby that offer free street parking. We ended up parking about two small blocks away and walking, which wasn't too bad at all. Overall it was a great show and venue, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in seeing a show there. read more

The wait-staff is hot. We love Sharon and Shannon (and I love Scotty.) Food is typical bar-fare but has been changing weekly do to a bit of soul-searching on the part of the owners'. They have changed their name to the Gin Mill but it is not advertised that way yet. Lots of shuffling going on . It will be interesting to see how it all sorts out. I saw the groupon advertising their dining. After spending a hour looking for a current menu, I came up disappointed. The webpage and facebook are not current or complete, some are a few years old. I saw the picture of an awesome burger in the advertisement and it made me want to check it out this place with some friends. I have to weigh in with some praise on the Gin Mill as a restaurant/tavern. I've never been, and I went on a Wednesday night with my 92-year old father in law before seeing Hacksaw Ridge at the Roxy Theatre down the street, and right after receiving some very bad news about his health. So there were a range of things that could have made this dining trip go south...which was thankfully not the case. Not only did some other customers very graciously stand aside when my guest somewhat feebly climbed the steps to the entrance, but they thanked him for his military service (he wears a navy vessel hat). The bar was pretty full at 6 o'clock, but it really felt family friendly, with some kids eating wings in some bar area tables, and the friendly bartender told us to sit where we felt comfortable. This is going to sound annoying, but for people who know what I mean, this place totally feels like a village pub in any cool little town in England. All ages and just a great vibe with just a little grittiness but not in a negative way for us, just in a way that made it feel homey and real. Definitely a place that seems like it would have "regulars." Which we might be if we lived closer. We had a great meal - they cooked his burger PRECISELY to order and he is very picky! He scarfed down half of it despite "not having an appetite." And my veggie quesadilla was delicious and not greasy - I very rarely clean my plate but there was nothing left on this one because it wasn't overwhelming or too heavy. Just right! The food was served kind of diner style in a basket and plate, could be a little fancier in that regard but it didn't matter to us. The wine we ordered was WELL above average for a house Chardonnay at a tavern, and what really made it a perfect visit was our very calm, attentive and compassionate server/ bartender who - I don't know how - kept up with the continually filling room, and still took the time to bend down to talk to my guest because he can't speak very loudly, and when we told her we were going to the movie, she hastened our order and gave us the bill immediately. This visit to the Gin Mill was perfect for us - it's not "fine dining" but it's not selling itself as that. It's good, tasty food prepared very well and obviously quickly when you need it! I didn't look at the beer list which I usually do, so I'm sorry I can't comment on that, and we didn't leave the room in the front where we had our meal so I can't comment on anything beyond that space. Not the same. The interior redo was welcome. Very nice. Staff is efficient and friendly. The drinks and prices are good. But the menu is overpriced and lacks imagination and variety. There's simply nothing on it for me. They used to have a good selection at fair prices. Sandwiches are higher here than elsewhere and don't even come with chips or fries. Quesadillas have hardly any filling. After my last three visits I've given up on the food. May still stop in for drinks. read more

Apparently do not come here during the day when the cook who looks 17yrs old is learning to cook! Three of us ordered all different items and none were good. Cheesesteak overcooked to the point where it became chard pieces of meat, meatball undercooked?!?! And a burger with a half inch of charged outside that was supposed to be medium!! Hmm. Not sure what to say about this place. Heard good things, mostly about their wings. Decided to try it out on a weekend night. When we got there around 8, the place was moderately busy. As the night went on it was less so. I was surprised at first but after our experience, I think we know why. So we decided to just get some appetizers. Basket of "Fair Fries" and chicken nachos. Fries were good, would get them again. Nachos, not so much. The portion was ridiculously small for the price and there may have been 10 tiny pieces of chicken sprinkled on top. Combine that with some of the strangest nachos chips I've eaten, kinda sweet and had the texture of a deep fried pastry. We agreed we'd never get them again. As for drinks, well we had to ask because there is no drink menu anywhere to be seen. You'd expect at least a beer list for the patio. Nope. So we skipped the wings this time. But we will visit here again just to see if the experience is different and hopefully the wings live up to the hype. read more

I wish I would've read the reviews before going to the Gin Mill Grille. I suggested the place because there was a coupon in the local Clipper magazine. Note to self: establishments that have to lure you in with coupon are doing so for a reason. We went on a Friday night. There was a head-banging band in the back room. The bar area was extremely LOUD as there was also jukebox music and TVs on. I asked my husband if he wanted to go elsewhere, as we hadn't ordered yet. No, we stayed. Ordered a draft beer and a bottled beer. The craft beer draft was served in a plastic cup. OK, if you're at a picnic. Others around us had beer in a glass, why did he get plastic? We both ordered steak sandwiches. Food was decent, nothing spectacular or memorable. Don't think we'll return, and wouldn't recommend either. read more
