Immediately you will notice the artwork. Chicken paintings of various sorts are all over the wall. It is truly unique. The server went over and beyond while serving our tables. The nachos were delicious. My Hawaiian chicken was excellent. I was told that the pumpkin cheesecake was amazing. The pumpkin spice was spicing. Everyone enjoyed everything they ate. Sad to say that we won't be coming back. We've been there quite a few times over the years because of their nachos! Always come to share with friends. Usually only avoid going because of the "crowd" that goes, just not our usual scene we enjoy. We were served quickly, but prices went up and quality way down. $30 for a small serving of nachos with chicken that used to be piled sky high we could barely finish sharing with multiple people. .... Of all the bird-themed casual dining options in Allentown (Ringer's Roost, Union & Finch), The Chicken Lounge is truly something special. Currently nestled between a Pizza Hut and a gourmet dog treats store, the Lounge's "street-scaping" is limited to a chalkboard sign, a duo of potted plants, and a faded sign that shows two fuzzy chicks emerging from the corner of a cracking egg. Compared to the massive GOURMET BUFFET & GRILL signage in the same shopping complex, the Chicken Lounge plays it far more chill. And why shouldn't it? The Chicken Lounge has been around forever. My mom used to come here after her night classes in nursing school more than 30 years ago. Your mom may have even come here to eat pierogies, knock back wine coolers, and shoulder-shimmy in her seat to Wham! My mom and your mom may have even been there AT THE SAME TIME. At least from how my mom tells it, the Chicken Lounge has barely changed. The service is friendly. The clientele is locals. The lighting is your dimmer switch on its lowest setting. The layout is colosseum-style, with the open kitchen in the center, ringed by bar seating, encircled by booths and tables. The decor is chickens. And, in terms of the food, the food is nachos. I guess you could order wings (I haven't) or burgers (I have, and they're good), but if you don't also order the nachos you're not really experiencing The Chicken Lounge in all of its splendor. They used to have a small nacho, which was massive, and a large nacho, which came served on a hubcap (joking, but not really). Now they just have one-size, and, yes, it's 25 bucks, but what's 25 bucks for a plate of nachos that can feed a family of four and deliver a transcendental nacho experience? Layer by glorious layer, The Chicken Lounge builds its nacho base with Doritos Nacho Cheese-like tortilla chips, a heavy spackling of refried beans, chunky taco sauce, and an Afghan blanket of melted Monterey Jack. Then they clobber this mound with thick-sliced pickled jalapeños, guacamole, and an oversized ice cream scoop of sour cream. You could order chicken on top, but then your stomach is going to hemorrhage and my mom doesn't come here basically every night anymore and probably won't be there to help you. As you move through this formidable nacho stack, each bite brings new combinations of flavors, the increasing need for a fork, and a gradual (but pleasant!) bloating. If you manage to make enough headway that you see at least a portion of the paper plate beneath it all, then you've done a decent job. Order all this with one of their way-better-than-average craft beer offerings on tap, and you're Chicken Lounging. Just hold the wine cooler. read more

My first time here since ???? Danielle took absolutely phenomenal care of us at lunch today!! She remembered Water with my drink, helped us get settled at a table with better lighting and gave advice about the menu when asked. She is very personable and I would go back just because of her. This was our second visit in 15 years. Not a bad little place. I'm not sure I would go out of my way to go there but if I were in the neighborhood I might. We had wings and a steak sandwich. The sandwich had a regular piece of steak on it. Good size! Wings were ok but not crispy, kind of tasted microwaved and then seasoned (weird but not horrible). Excellent chili! Well was in town for work and co worker took us here. It was a little weird out front. Just a door and no windows. Walked in and it was a great dive place. They cooked your food in front of you. The grill is actually in the middle of the restaurant. The cook was hustling but was very calm. Very personable and recommend distilleries in the area. Our server was great also. Even though she apologized for not getting to us sooner, we didn't care and was not in a rush. The owner was there and was in the grind (which is a good sign). Mistake to order nachos for myself dining in because they quadrupled size of nachos and more than tripled price to $25.50 per order !!!! Had I known they were going to bring over mountain of nachos, I would not have gone there. Nachos tasted fine, it was just ridiculous amount of them. I understand businesses have to do what they have to do to stay in business, but if you see someone dining alone, let them know it's designed for party of 10 or more. This is a causal bar atmosphere. Definitely a real 1980s theme in decor, but very unique and inviting. When you're inside the place it's hard to believe that your in a shopping center. All of the cooking is done behind the central bar area, but it seems that they have some impressive indoor grill equipment in that area. I had a burger and it was really good. Got the potato pancakes on the side--also good. My wife got the prime rib sandwich, which she enjoyed. Definitely not a fancy place, so don't set your expectations high that way, but I'd definitely return. read more

My group of family and friends had 11 people, so we asked the waiter for 2 tables. To split it up, we requested one adults table and one kids table. In response to this, the waiter said, "I'm not here to babysit your children." Rude statement coming from a waiter after we asked nicely for 2 tables to sit 11 people. The drinks we received were solid but nothing special. The water however, must have been tap water because it didn't taste solid quality. The service was medium as well, although there wasn't many people there. The burgers we chose were alright, but all the chicken they cooked was in a microwave. You would think the chicken lounge would be known for its chicken but the nachos appeared more pleasing to the mouths of our party. I'm going to give a generous two stars for fast, friendly service...but if you've never been to Chicken Lounge, or are wondering if this is the place you should stop for dinner, keep driving. Tucked into a shopping center (should have been my first clue) with heavy metals doors and no windows, I thought maybe we were duped into walking into a strip club. The smell of cigarette smoke certainly added to the ambience. This was a "seat yourself kinda place. You have to walk around an odd octagon shaped room (with the grill in the center, to squeeze into a table or booth of your choice. A server came to our table quickly with menus, and a waitress followed shortly after for drinks. There were several people at the bar. It seemed like a friendly, local dive. They definitely have the chicken theme down, but the menu actually lacked very many chicken dishes at all. We settled on the "famous" nacho platter (which was $25 and DIDN'T include chicken unless you paid the up charge). I mean, if they are "famous", why not? When the waitress returned with placemats and PAPER plates, we were a little taken aback. When the pile of nachos came out, we knew we were in trouble. This mile high mound of busted up Doritos was a sight for tired travelers. After we exchange glances, and took a commemorative photo, we cautiously dug in. The chicken that we added on was nothing more than warmed up strips of precooked meat. The chips were mostly broken up and soggy, except for the ones on the outside that were too stale to soak up any liquid. There was an obscene amount of cheese that made them difficult to pull apart. There was also some red sauce (that I'm not entirely convinced wasn't just tomato sauce) underneath as well. There was a plop of refried beans hidden under one side. My favorite part (if I had to choose a highlight) was the huge scoop of sour cream with the broken shard of Dorito stuck in the top for garnish. Needless to say, we didn't not even come close to finishing this paper plate platter of nachos. While we sat laughing over our food choice, there was a person who carried a cardboard box of unidentified food from the freezer. When he plopped it down on the counter near us, and flopped the lid open, some kind of liquid that was on the box flew across our table, food, and my forehead. It was the perfect addition to this dining adventure. I've read so many reviews about how wonderful this restaurant and its food is. Maybe it's a local gem? We will head back to our own state and maybe think twice about trying something new in your area next time we are passing through. Good luck! read more

Built on store bought nacho cheese Doritos piled much higher than necessary, in an attempt to make them look ridiculously filling. Also, I paid $18.55 for a Manhattan that sells for $10 or $12 at the Lehigh Valley's best restaurants. You saw that right. $18.55. For a Manhattan. Not trying to bash the place. Worst experience. Ended up there two and a half hours. Food came out cold and at different times. Why one burger then the next 20 minutes later. We were not offered refills on drinks. The wings came out with sauce but ordered naked. They were put back on the grill with the sauce wiped off. Came back with black char chunks. We are here in Allentown for work and needed a good chill place for dinner and drinks. We landed here on Steak night. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and had a ton of flavor. Nachos made with doritos! Probably the defining factor. Chicken Lounge is a great little local shopping center bar. Feels a little greasy, a little scuzzy, a little suburban, but very comfortable. Pints were $2.25! Bar is in the center surrounded by tables and tvs. There are pictures of chickens on the wall if you forget where you are. The menus smell like Denny's. The friends I came with used to come here years ago so it holds a special place in their heart. For me, Saturday was the first time I came, but I enjoyed myself. I'm surprised this place doesn't have more stars. Easily the best place for late nights, as it's open till 2AM every day of the week. It's a great place for closing servers, or people who can't sleep. If you eat nothing else, get chicken nachos. They are so disgusting, and so fantastic at the same time. I also recommend the ribs, which pleasantly surprised me. It's a really laid back place, so don't expect speedy service or overly attentive servers. My wife (now-ex-wife) and I decided to stop in for lunch years after our last visit to the Chicken Lounge... This place is really falling apart. Literally, falling apart! The seats are losing their stuffing, there are broken tiles in the floor and it's just dingy and dirty from overuse. Maybe if you are half-drunk it would be OK, but it's downright depressing. The chicken nachos that they are famous for have certainly gone up in price but aren't as exceptional as I remember. Maybe my tastes have changed... I went here with a coworker the other day. This place is an institution - been around since the 70s. When I mentioned I was going, most people laughed. I thought this was an odd reaction, but I now understand why. First of all, it's in a strip mall. It has a lowered grill in the middle (I did mention it was founded in the 70s right?) and has absolutely no windows. Sticking with the name, a chicken motif abounds. Many flatscreen TVs giving it a casual sports bar sort of feel. This place is known for their nachos - and they were delish. However, I wasn't expecting doritos - they should include this in their description. We got burgers - which arrived REALLY late and were only ok. I would probably come back, only if I"m in the area and looking for beer and some nachos. read more

I have been going to this bar for over 20 years. It was an awesome place back in the day ,especially if you were a single guy. Since all the nurses came there after work LOL. Stopped in the other day for lunch. Cannot believe how downhill this place has gone. Ordered a chicken sandwich and a hamburger. The hamburger looked just like a golf ball. It covered only about half of a normal size hamburger bun. The chicken that I got, was no bigger than the palm of my hand and half as thick. Both were cooked improperly and not as ordered. Really wanted to get the nachos but now they only have one size They use almost an entire bag of Doritos, not the chips that they used to use. It's now $18 for an order of nachos. All it is is chips and a few amenities with cheese. Total rip off. There's no way one couple is going to sit down and eat it ,let alone one person. How anybody in the Lehigh Valley can charge $18 for a plate of nachos and think that that is OK, is just wrong to me on so many levels. I brought a friend here thinking that it would be an awesome visit ,since they have never been there before. All it was was a major disappointment. The ambience is the same as it has been for the last 20 years with no updates. The bathrooms are still as dirty as they always were ,if not worse. The staff is not what it used to be either, watching the hoodlum behind the grill cooking my meal did not sit well with me. Definitely look elsewhere if you're going out for food in that area. The only thing that I could say was good was their beer choices. But still they're overpriced in that area as well I'm hoping they find new management and or new owners.
