I was referred to Root Vision Endo in Lakewood. It took some time for them to accept my insurance, but once they did, I scheduled an appointment. The office was clean, and although I was extremely nervous, I trusted that I was in the hands of professionals. The doctor examined and tested three of my teeth. Based on that evaluation, I was told that I needed three root canals. I trusted the diagnosis and agreed to move forward, paying $1,099 out of pocket because I was desperate to restore my smile. Afterward, I returned to my regular dentist and was devastated to learn that two of the teeth that received root canals could not be saved and would need to be removed. I cannot explain how upsetting that was. I had just endured three root canals, the pain and recovery that came with them, and a significant out-of-pocket expense--only to be told that two of those teeth still needed to be extracted. That $1,099 could have gone toward the bridge and restorative treatment I now need. Instead, my treatment has been prolonged, I endured additional procedures, and I am now facing even more dental expenses. I understand that dental outcomes are not always guaranteed and that different providers can have different professional opinions. However, based on my experience, I deeply regret not getting a second opinion before proceeding with three root canals. If you are dealing with a dental emergency or trauma and feeling desperate like I was, please advocate for yourself and consider getting a second opinion before agreeing to major treatment. She also has a method she uses when numbing your gums in order to minimize pain and it totally works for me. She's awesome :) My mother is in her 70s and cannot lay flat - which is an issue when you have to lay in a dentist chair - but Dr. Chu worked around it. My mom also gets anxious just thinking about having to go to the dentist and will make a hundred excuses as to why she can't make an appointment but Dr. Chu's patience and kind demeanor really helped my mom get over her fear and since she has started seeing her she is now able to relax in the chair.
