DuPont needs more Thai spots soo this was a good addition to the area. I got my Pad Thai to go but it was nice getting to hang out at the bar while they prepared it. The portion was large but next time ill opt for something spicier than medium. Thats usually my limit at Thai restaurants but here it was a little mild. Really nice staff. Id go again read more

Sampannee Thai - Pad Thai - Thai Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

My boyfriend and I were visiting DC and went on a double date with his friend. The place got really good reviews and we decided to try it out. FOOD: As far as Thai food goes, I was generally happy but not blown away (Disclaimer: I visited Thailand recently). I was excited to see Khao Soi on the menu, which is a dish I only found out about recently in my recent trip to Thailand. Of course, it wasn't as good as what I had in Bangkok, but it was tasty and it hit the spot. I think the flavor just needed a bit more depth to it. Also we asked for it to be Thai Spicy, which just meant they added extra chili flakes. It was spicy, but definitely not Thai Spicy. I did really like the drunken noodles which we got with tofu. I asked for it spicy and it was just a little spicy, but for most Americans that's probably fine. SERVICE: Generally, I thought the service was good. No complaints, very nice people. AMBIANCE: Quite cute! I appreciated the floral decor all over. But I do remember the bathroom being far away, it's downstairs and it's for the whole building from what I gathered. OVERALL: Solid Thai spot. I'd probably come back if I lived in the area, but being that I don't I probably will venture for something different next time I am in town. read more

Decided to check out Sampannee on a Saturday night to satisfy a Thai craving!!!! They had seating available but b we also saw an option to join a wait list. At that time wait was less than 5 minutes so we just walked over. We were able to take our pick of tables. The decor is super cute as if you were sitting with family. Loved the pillows. We have our favorites but decided to try different dishes. For apps, we got the undercover shrimp and the dirty wings with Larb seasoning What is Larb??? Deliciousness, that's what! Wings were crisply breaded and sprinkled in this seasoning. We could eat these all by itself! The undercover shrimp was shrimp fried in a roll. The sauce served was perfectly sweet with a slight kick. For mains, we tried the yellow curry, and of course, I had to get pineapple fried rice. The pineapple rice comes with both chicken and shrimp here!!! Perfectly cooked veggies, perfect pineapple chunksand a perfect amount of raisins and cashews. You won't need any sauce for this rice. The flavors on its own are great! Now to the yellow curry. They ask for your level of spice so you will get it how you like it. We chose medium! If we thought the pineapple rice was amazing. THE CURRY!!! It just blew us away. We tried it with both the bowl of white rice and the pineapple rice. Before leaving it was decided this place will have another visit so we can take food home! Drinks (non alcoholic)- We tried the wonder berry and white peach. Wonderberry was our favorite. White leach was good but the peach flavor was more towards the bottom and gone after a few sips. The drink was left with a nice sweet lime flavor afterwards. The staff was amazing and attentive. Great service. We were checked in regarding the timeliness of our food as well as for the taste. Very much appreciated. Sampannee is pretty new and with this great food and service we look forward to returning again and again. This has been some of the best, most flavorful Thai food we've had and I have tried many of places! read more

The food was good but not worth the cost. Also the Service was bad. The waitress was too rude and gave us a full speech about tips when we all together (table of 4) had tipped more than 15% avg. This was unacceptable and pretty targeted as she mentioned that lot of us (Race) had come to the restaurant due a big event near by and tipped accordingly. This is irritating as tipping is on customers discretion and not based on server's expectations. read more

New Thai restaurant that is seemingly a hole-in-the-wall? Sampannee is tucked comfortably on P Street and 21st/22nd Street near Dupont Circle, a bit away from all the crowds on 18th. I'm glad my friend and I stopped by here for dinner. The service is attentive (always filling our water) and got our orders pretty quickly. The food came out reasonably fast (less than 15 minutes). JUMBO!! CRABMEAT FRIED RICE - 22 Flavor bomb for sure. Even without the egg or crab, the rice was super flavorful - stir-fried with spices, lots of umami and the sweetness that is found in a lot of Thai dishes. There was a surprising amount of crab which made this fried rice worth it. I'd want to think it was real crab (the texture tasted like real crab and not flour), but if it's imitation, then it's pretty darn close to the real thing. The scrambled eggs were soft and fluffy. The onions, green onions and other garnishes only added more to the fried rice and completed it. Let's just say that I wolfed down my fried rice pretty quickly and didn't talk much because it was that delicious. On top of that, I got to take a good amount for a meal on another day. I can see why this is one of the "Chef's Kiss Dishes". I would recommend this if you're craving some fried rice! My friend got the Green Curry, which she enjoyed as it was comforting and a Thai restaurant staple. They have a lot of other good options, too, and I had a hard time choosing. In the future, I'll consider the Shrimp Woon Sen, Roasted Duck Curry or Zuchi Salmon Curry. Those three look really good, haha. read more

One of my favorite Thai restaurants in the area. The food is always consistent - flavorful and fresh. This was my first time ordering through delivery and I'm happy to report the food was still hot and consistent. The Grubhub service was awesome as well! read more

- The flat noodles were sticky, clumped together, and overall very disappointing in taste and texture. - The chicken satay was the worst--tiny portions with no authentic flavor, definitely not worth trying. read more

I normally never leave reviews on yelp but this place just completely blew me away. I mean, just look at the mango sticky rice (only $9)! I've been to dozens of Thai restaurants. This is without a doubt the best Thai food I've ever had. Additionally, our server was warm and attentive, and shared some funny stories about past customers. Lastly, the place was beautifully decorated. You could tell a lot of thought and care went into everything from the food to the ambiance. Cannot recommend this place enough! read more

Sampannee excelled in all but one area, but unfortunately that one area was the food. I ordered the pad see ew ($16) with beef (+$2). It looked amazing, but sadly most of the beef was quite chewy. Perhaps the cow had a difficult and stressful life. The disappointing meat resulted in the three-star rating. But, everything else was lovely, from the thimble-like water cups (much larger than a thimble of course) to the prompt and kind service. I will probably give Sampannee another chance in the future. The other reviews are just so good I think I must have had an outlier experience. read more

This is our 'go to' place when we want carry out/delivery. The food is great - we particularly like the green curry.

Very good, spicy Thai food with friendly service and a beautiful, floral ambiance. It reminds me Paris a bit! They have classic dishes like pad Thai, pad Kee mao, green and yellow curry, fried rice, and they even have khao soi. The people who work here are so friendly and they're always helpful and smiling. They also have a cute quartet of spices or sauces that I always ask for to add to my food. I love their chilli and garlic or their dried chilli flakes. They always add a kick. There are a lot of floral decorations and large windows that let in lots of light. It seems very warm and welcoming. The only issues with the restaurant stem from their mock tails and a couple desserts. The mock tails could have more distinct flavours. Also, the waffle dessert seemed like it was made from Eggos and the neglectful uncle had bread from a hot dog bun. They have good flavours, but I wish they would make their own bread and waffles. Their mango sticky rice or the plain ice cream are the better options. The Thai iced tea is also delicious and strong in flavour. read more

What a quaint spot. We came in and walked from our hotel 25 minutes to try this place while in town. My niece and I were seated right away but it took a bit for someone to get to us. Once the waitress did, she didn't seem to want to talk about anything on the regular menu but the lunch menu and I felt rushed to just got something off of the lunch menu. Everyone was very polite though but I felt it service could be better even when food was being dropped off. The food was amazing when it came to flavors and portions. The only items that stood out just because everything else was perfection was that my spring rolls were cold and the rice was a bit overcooked. Outside of that, everything else was great. The portions were perfect and they brought items as they were prepared which is what the cold rolls took me off guard. If not for that and rushed service, this would have been a 5 start experience. Overall, great place and would definitely come back again. read more

We tried getting on the waitlist on a Saturday night at 7pm and the wait came back at over an hour. Which must mean it's good. We were staying at a hotel next door and it was convenient enough to just get carry out. The carry out was fast - food was ready in 20 minutes. We got the dirty wings with Tom yum, the pad Thai medium spicy, fried duck, crab fried rice and shrimp and shrimp curry. Everything was fantastic. The wings and crab fried rice were standouts. The medium spicy pad Thai was pretty darned spicy. Highly recommended. read more

The prices on the yelp website are not accurate! We had the Duck Rolls, Pad Thai Tom Yum, and Panang Curry. The Duck Rolls were alright, they reminded us of Peking Duck and it was overall a new taste. The Pad Thai Tom Yum was delicious, it had a good amount of shrimp. It had similar taste to normal pad thai with a The panang curry was very liquidy and the spice contributed to the good flavor. It's not exactly nutty but I will note that the chicken might have been overcooked. The ambiance is really nice and the whole restaurant is colorful, cute, and cozy. The service was usual, nothing exceptional but nothing bad. read more

What a great spot in DC. My coworker and I were in the mood for some legit Thai food and this popped up closest and one of the highest reviews! Yelp didn't disappoint one bit. The overall experience was amazing. All around from the service to the food. Let's start with the food. Ordered the Pad Thai and my coworker ordered the panang curry lunch special situations. Came with 3 different choices and we both got spring rolls. They were super crunchy and flaky (as they should be) came out hot and very good. The next was my dish Pad Thai. It was really good and highly recommended. I would order it again. The like on top sealed the deal. My proteins were chicken and beef both tender and cooked perfectly. Very flavorful and it was a huge lunch portion. I was so full after I left. I did try a taste of the panang and it is one of my favorite dishes and will order that next time. We also ordered the French fries and you can pick between 3 types of seasonings which is awesome. We just told her to pick one. Order them extra crispy (always). The overall inside was also great. They had the heater on and warmed it up a bit and it was very cozy. All three of the ladies working this afternoon were friendly, interactive, and smiling the entire time. Our main server R (don't know how to spell her whole name) but she was amazing. So friendly and so interactive. We got to know her and her history it was really nice and added to the experience. Overall I'll be back when I'm in DC. Good food good atmosphere and good people. What a treat before heading home. read more

Sampanee is an incredible Thai spot that we just happened upon during our trip. I wasn't able to get there, but the takeout was so good - which isn't easy with Thai noodles. They were fast and inexpensive but mostly the taste was one of the best I've had in ages. Pad See Ew is such a classic dish that sometimes leave something to be desired when the classic flavor is adjusted. This is nothing like that and I can only believe the rest of the menu is the same. read more

Every year, a group of my girlfriends will get together for our annual "holi-date." We will all get dressed up, go out to a nice restaurant, catch up and might even exchange small gifts depending on the year. However, this year everyone had so much going on and the idea of going out turned out to be more stressful than enjoyable. With that in mind, we decided that this year we could have our holidate at home, order delivery and sip champagne in our fuzzy socks. Thai food always seems to be a favorite for many and knowing the tastes of the group, I felt this was the route to go. I ordered an array of entrees and apps and scheduled a delivery for just about 30 minutes before guests would arrive. The delivery was right on time and the food was delicious. The standout dishes were the pineapple fried rice and the pad see ew. The curry duck also had a great flavor, but we were a little disappointed that it didn't come with any rice. I didn't check, but perhaps I would have had to order that as a separate side which I've never had to do before (and if so it was pretty explicit.) Overall the portions were good and I think my friends enjoyed most of the dishes we ordered. read more

Stumbled upon this Thai restaurant for dinner and was very pleased with the whole gai yang chicken dish! Had dinner here with a friend. The inside of the restaurant is cute and casual-- a nice neighborhood Thai spot. It should be noted that the restaurant is only accessible by going up stairs. The dishes I tried were a little underwhelming. The Pad See Ew tasted average (3/5). The Spring Roll was below average and bland (2/5). The Pad Thai Tom Yum had good flavors but the noodles were overcooked (4/5). The lunch special looks great and I would be interested in coming back for it. read more

Great food. We took out. The chicken wings were outstanding. Beef and basil delicious. Highly recommend.

My wife and I ate here during our July 2025 visit to D.C. We went there based on Yelp reviews but were very disappointed. We started with an order of spring rolls. These came only with a sweet sauce. They were ok. My wife had the Kapow Duck. It was very bland and was served with no accompanying sauces. We asked for sauce and then received a collection of hot sauces and soy sauce but these did not add much to the enjoyment of the dish. I had Pad See Ew. This was also very bland. Again, with added sauce, the dish was still not very good. Our waitress was not very attentive. We do not recommend this restaurant. read more

I had lunch at Sampannee Thai and it was delicious. I had an appetizer of spring rolls and Green Curry with shrimp which came with a large side of rice. All was delicious. Food was mediocre at best. Got drunken noodle and honestly a premade grocery store one was better. We also got papaya salad. Again mediocre. Green curry was decent but not awesome. Terrific. Got the Zuchii Salmon Curry. A bit outside of my comfort zone as I'm more a chicken curry guy, but this did not miss. Curry was rich with flavor and salmon was tender and flaky.
