Oh man... I don't even know where to start with this review because I have such mixed feeling I really wish my experience had been better Let's start with reservations and parking. Both were pretty easy, even though it's located off Ventura Blvd There's also valet available (I believe it was around $10), which is a nice option. As soon as we arrived, we were seated right away It did seem like there was only one server working that night, though. Everything was okay up until we placed our order... We ordered two ribeye plates with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Shortly after, the server told us they didn't have that dish available but then came back and said the chef could actually make it, so we went ahead and kept our order. We also ordered calamari, a beer, and a soda. The calamari came out first, but the beer didn't arrive until much later basically when our main dishes were already served I then ordered two glasses of wine, and unfortunately, that's where the service really went downhill. The pours were uneven, there was cork in the wine, and the presentation was sloppy. On top of that, the wine didn't arrive until mid-dinner There was also a big discrepancy with our meals. The "ribeye" looked completely different from the last time I visited the presentation was unrecognizable. The main reason I brought my partner here was because I had such a great experience the first time during an event, so this was honestly disappointing. I really wanted to love it again, but this visit just didn't live up to my expectations. Needless to say, the bill came out to around $275 The "ribeye" alone was $83 x2 I have to be honest... the plate did not resemble a ribeye at all. The cut, the presentation everything looked completely off from what you'd expect. On top of that, it tasted like it was steamed rather than grilled, which is definitely not how a ribeye should be prepared (IMO) For that price point, I expected a properly grilled steak with that signature sear and flavor. Was looking for somewhere to grab lunch and found this cafe. I got the chicken shawarma wrap with hummus and jalapeños. The wrap was so huge! They definitely stuff it up with all the ingredients. The jalapenos and hummus paired so well with it! I also got a side of fries and they were so fresh and golden with perfect amount of salt/seasoning. The service was awesome here. The server kept coming and refilling my water. There js street parking with meters, so it can sometimes be hard to find parking. read more

Stop by for a quick lunch with my husband. The place is extremely clean and decorated very nicely. A nice warm atmosphere. Staff were amazing and we were fortunate enough to meet the chef. Who was very friendly and kind. We stared with the Vegetarian falafel plate. Some ice tea and a delicious hazelnut latte. Followed by the Chicken Breast Grilled skewers and half rotisserie chicken with a side of garlic fries. The vegetarian falafel plate was a 10 out of 10! Everything about it was perfection! Both our main dishes were very good and the garlic fries were a winner. I would definitely come back. I think the one thing we would without a doubt order again is the vegetarian falafel plate. Veryyy expensive but the food was very good. Everything was flavorful. They had a lot of unique options like smoked salmon eggs Benedict which I haven't seen before. The yuka potatoes were the best, perfect flavor and crunch, yummy sauce to dip them in. The only thing I really didn't like was the service. Everyone was nice but it took forever to get seated and forever to get our food, and it felt like others were being served before us even though they arrived after us which I didn't appreciate. Inside was pretty and decorative, they had a clean flowery aesthetic. There was a lot of tables for groups. Pretty dishes too, and their coffee drinks were fancy. They put a cute heart design on one of the drinks. Overall I want to try more because the food is good and see if they continue to make the price worth the quality. The brunch here is honestly so good. I got the 2+2 with scrambles eggs and bacon. The eggs were so fully and perfect! It also comes with crispy yukon potatoes. They were a little more brow than I would like but nonetheless, they were amazing and crispy. The aesthetics of this place are also beautiful! Lots of natural light and fresh flowers at every table. Very cute touch. The parking in this area is just horrible, though. If it's not metered, It's permitted. I would still recommend trying it out. read more

Alright... I owe Samos an apology Came back after my first visit was... let's just say not it (we're talking a solid 2/10). BUT--plot twist of the year--the head chef personally reached out and invited me back. And wow... they didn't just fix it, they went absolutely crazy. This time? 100/10. No exaggeration. The fried chicken sandwich? Ridiculous. The chicken pesto panini? Gone in 3 minutes. But the real plot twist... the chocolate chip pancakes. Listen--I don't even LIKE pancakes like that. But these?? Fluffy, perfect, borderline life-changing. I've never had pancakes like that before. I was lowkey offended I ever doubted them. And then it got even better... Chef Art actually came out of the kitchen to apologize in person for our first visit. Not some quick "sorry guys"--you could genuinely feel it. That alone already flipped everything for me. BUT WAIT--there's more. We're getting ready to pay, I pull my wallet out... and our server Elena and Chef Art go, "Don't worry about it." I'm thinking okay cool, maybe they took off a dish or two... Nope. The ENTIRE check. Covered. Yeah... I just stood there like That level of care, accountability, and hospitality? You don't see that often. Safe to say I'll definitely be back. Loved this place! The decor & ambiance are very welcoming! Our servers, Elena & Lydia provided top notch service & were very friendly & attentive during our entire visit. Elena provided great suggestions & was very familiar w the many menu options. We even had the pleasure of meeting the Chef! My husband and I usually try a different place for brunch on Saturdays, but this spot was so good we ended up going back the very next weekend! Everything we've had so far has been really great. I ordered the shakshuka both times because I loved it that much, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes both visits too. We also tried the chilaquiles, which were excellent. Overall the food felt high quality and really well made. The coffee was great as well. I had a tahini salted caramel coffee each time we went (one at each brunch a week apart) and it was delicious. It's a unique combo and I wasn't sure what to expect, but it worked really well. The wait staff were attentive without being overbearing, and during our first visit someone who we think may have been the owner came out and checked on us to make sure everything was good, which I thought was a really nice touch. Parking was a little tricky, but honestly the food and service made it worth it. I'm looking forward to trying more of the menu... although it might be hard not to just keep ordering the same things again because they were so good. read more

My daughter wanted to try this new restaurant for breakfast. I was happy with my breakfast burrito, very tasty and filling, it came with a nice salad on the side. My daughter enjoyed her crunchy French toast and my grandson was a little confused with his puffy pancakes. He said they were too puffy. Very nicely decorated and cute restaurant. I have been a customer of Samos since shortly after they opened, and I'm continually impressed by the consistency and quality of their food, their service, and their extremely diverse menu offerings. I recently needed to figure out a good venue for a very important multi-day business event, and I realized that Samos would be perfect. I met separately with both Adan (one of their chefs) and Anna (one of the owners) and we were able to create a menu that really accommodated my very specific needs brilliantly at an exceptionally reasonable price. The wait staff, including Elena and Lydia, were outstanding and made sure that the food was appropriately magically replenished so everyone had the opportunity to try everything throughout each of the four hour events on two successive days. (One of the ways I rate an event like this is by whether they run out of food because of improper planning). No one ever had to ask for more of anything or for used place settings to be cleared. Bottom line is, I looked like a genius because everyone was so wowed and complimentary about the food, the hospitality, the venue, and the overall quality of the experience. (I clearly benefited from the seriously positive "guilt by association", lol). You can always recommend a particularly good book or movie to someone, knowing that they should enjoy it at least as well as you did, but restaurants can be extremely ephemeral. If they change the slightest detail about their management, kitchen staff, menu, or even the purveyor they use for their ingredients, the quality that you have grown to expect can disappear in a heartbeat. Which makes Samos a genuine treasure, that I particularly appreciate. If you overhear somebody ordering their world class shakshuka and greedily asking for an extra egg, and for them to put in some of their wonderful spicy Turkish lamb sausage (soujouk or mergez) you'll be able to connect a face with this review. (Don't even think about getting me started regarding their incredible homemade pastries). I always look forward to my meals there, and you can too. read more

Samos Cafe is a wonderful restaurant with friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere. The food is delicious and of all the items I've tried I haven't had anything that disappointed. The garlic fries are a must have and their tacos were delicious and loaded up with filling. The only drawback for me would be the price. Samos is definitely catering more toward a higher class vibe and the prices tend to match. If it was more affordable I would return more often but as it is this is definitely a place I will bring people if I want them to have fantastic food in a fun atmosphere. read more

Samos is a beautifully appointed cafe at the intersection of Woodman and Ventura Blvd. Instagram led us here and we had a wonderful breakfast. Wife had the blueberry pancakes which were light and flavorful. I ordered the shakshuka which was delicious, spicy and served in a cast iron skillet which kept the dish at a proper temperature throughout the meal. I also ordered their sausage on the side which proved to be a scrumptious spicy delight. Service was quick and efficient. Nice people work here. We highly recommend! read more

I wanted to try this place because it was reviewed on Instagram. I sent an email to see if I could reserve a table for 7 of us for a birthday. They were responsive and accommodating. That was the high point. The food was good overall. However, the one thing that is exceedingly bad is the service. The wait staff seem to be under trained and speak very quietly. What's worse is that they seem to not pay attention to the customers request. We asked for more water and coffee on multiple occasions and those requests fell on seemingly very distracted ears. We observed three parties get up and leave because they were tired of waiting for service. The wait for the food was quite long as well. Disappointing to say the least. I had a really disappointing experience here and won't be coming back. When we arrived, our server told us we'd be seated, but then proceeded to give away the table that was supposed to be for us. After that, both the server and host failed to communicate any kind of wait time, leaving us completely in the dark. When I finally spoke to the manager out of frustration, instead of helping, she raised her voice at me, which made the situation even worse. At no point did anyone take the time to properly explain what was going on or how long the wait would be. It was clear the whole place was disorganized--even a reservation party of 8 ended up leaving because of the confusion. Hi, I wanted to share my experience--not to complain for the sake of it, but in hopes it helps improve your service. My issue wasn't just about getting the wrong order. Mistakes happen. What made it frustrating was that I asked two different servers--three times--if the burger I received was the white truffle mushroom burger. Both assured me it was, without actually checking. (I've included comparison pictures below.) But it clearly wasn't. The burger I got was the bison burger--it had yellow cheese, pickles, and no mushrooms. The white truffle mushroom burger comes with white cheese, no pickles, and mushrooms, obviously. Even the fries looked different and didn't resemble truffle fries. I mentioned all of this, but the server still insisted it was the right order and offered to bring me a side of mushrooms instead. It wasn't until I literally pulled the burger apart and showed another server that they acknowledged the mistake and brought the correct order. On top of that, when I first walked in, no one greeted me. The layout made it seem like it might be counter-service, so I stood by the register for about 5 minutes. Staff saw me, but no one approached. I eventually had to ask if I should order at the counter, and that's when I was told they take orders at the table. There were only four tables occupied, but it still took a long time to be served. From the time I arrived to when I finally got the correct burger, it was about 40 minutes. By the time I received the right dish, I was too hungry to care that the patty was overly salty and the truffle fries had no real truffle flavor or aroma. To be fair, both were cooked well. I know the bison patty isn't always too salty, because the one I got by mistake was actually seasoned just right. There's a lot of potential here--the restaurant is beautiful, and the food is prepared with care. But the service really needs more attention to detail, and the staff needs to listen more carefully when customers speak up. It would have made a big difference. read more

I have ordered lunch and dessert here many times and have always been absolutely pleased. Recently, I decided to try their breakfast items, and I'm so glad I did. As always, the service was friendly, personable, and welcoming. Feeling adventurous, I tried traditional Armenian breakfast items for the very first time: the Shakshuka and Ajarski Khachapuri. The Shakshuka was served hot in an iron pan, bursting with rich flavors and topped with two perfectly cooked sunny-side-up eggs. The Ajarski Khachapuri was cheesy, doughy, creamy, and absolutely indulgent. We added an egg and bacon, which elevated the dish even further. We also ordered the Breakfast Platter, which included pancakes, an egg, fruit, and bacon (substituted for sausage). Unfortunately, the pancakes didn't meet our expectations in taste or texture, and overall, the price didn't match the value of what was served.
