The service here is pretty much non-existent. Once you're noticed you will be walked to your table. After ordering and getting your food, don't expect to be asked how your meal was. You have to flag someone down to get your check. The food is very mediocre. My waffle was cold, and...maybe that was my fault for not eating it fast enough. But the butter did not really "melt" on top of the waffle, which tells me that the waffle was pretty cold to begin with. My kids seemed to like their food, and my wife thought her french toast was delicious. My wife wished she could have gotten some hot sauce like Cholula or something, but because the service was virtually do-it-yourself. All in all, I would steer clear of this place. I rated this place two stars "but barely." I really wish they could have stepped it up service-wise, and food-wise it left much to be desired. read more

Great food but service is pretty questionable. Came today for Valentine's Day brunch and waited almost 30 minutes for our food to come out. We ordered two french toast combos. The "stuffed french toast" donut came half frozen still and the rest of our food (eggs and potatoes) were barely warm. Very disappointing as this was our third time here in about 2 months and the other two times were great experiences. Dont think you should come here during busy hours, try to come when theyre slow so your food is fresh. I hope they read this and reflect on how they underperformed today. read more

My husband and I decided to try this place out Saturday morning. Maybe it was a bad day to go since it had just switched over and they're learning the new menu? Took 30+ minutes for our food to come out, and the food was ok. Could've been because we waited so long I was just kinda over the lukewarm food that came out. I ordered a short stack and a side of country potatoes. Country potatoes definitely weren't worth $3.55! They came on a tiny plate with a little seasoning sprinkled on the top. Pancakes were average. If I could give more stars I would. The food is fantastic, you get alot of good food for a reasonable price. But this review is for a one of the waitresses..Espie. I am a Nurse and started watching a client in Orange. She can definitely be challenging at times. But the first time we walked in, my client went over to Espie and gave her a big hug. Espie seated us with a smile and knew exactly what my client wanted. For the last 6 months it's been the same warm, friendly atmosphere as that first day. I shook Sammy's hand today. He's made great choices about his investment in this former classic I-Hop. Sammy kept the best elements that we all remember about I-Hops and combined them with stylish modern renovation. It's super-clean and sharp! So many times I've ventured into a former classic CA restaurant building like Bobs Big Boy or Spires only to discover that the new owners did minimal improvements. The overall dining experience is depressed by an aging shabby interior, barely-acceptable condition of ancient restrooms and worst of all, cheap, unhealthy inedible food. Today however, thank goodness, that was NOT the case with Sammy's Stack ! On top of his wonderful reno of the tiny property, Sammy hired a first-class staff who turns out a wide variety of delicious dishes quickly, and delivers top-notch table service with genuine sincerity and warmth. It was not a surprise that this Friday mid-morning, the small place was packed with a stream of people. Tables turned over faster than those pancakes on the grill! Of course, Sammy's menu is very family-friendly price-wise and the comfort food is high quality and fresh. No, sorry, it's not a vegan"s kind of place but it is popular for many good reasons cited above. We came on New Years Day because everything else was closed. We were pleasantly surprised. Even though there was a wait, tables were flipped efficiently. I really don't like leaving bad reviews but this place needs to hurry and fix certain issues before it really goes down hill. Firstly the girls working the front definitely do not understand what customer service is. They were not helpful answering any questions about wait times, they sat multiple parties (of the same size) before us, and they gave my fiancé and I attitude if we asked why they were sat before us. Once you finally get seated by the unprofessional hostesses, the wait staff seem to be confused by new policy/ procedures for Covid protections. This will most likely be my last time going here because the staff was that bad. read more

Great food, for brunch or breakfast! We have come here quite a few times for breakfast or brunch and the food is always great. The hash browns are delicious! Crispy and golden brown on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside! Be prepared to wait for a table, especially on the weekend. They always have some old timey jams playing that either make for great conversation or drives you insane. They always offer 10% off your next visit if you bring in your old receipt, so don't forget to take advantage of that. Service at the register is great and it seems like the man their always try's to make your last impression a great one. He has always been super friendly and asks questions to make sure your visit was a good one. Similar to an IHOP or Denny's but with a more personal vibe. Really disappointed today. I went to Sammys and ordered a senior egg breakfast. It came with an order of two pancakes and I asked the waitress Elizabeth if I could sub the two pancakes for a one waffle instead. She said sure that it was no problem. When the bill came I was up-charged an extra $1.99. She never told me there was an up-charge, or I would have simply gotten the pancakes instead. When I asked her about it she explained that they charge extra for waffles. I told her this should have been explained at the time I had asked if it could be substituted - to this she just shrugged and smiled.
