I got a pedicure done here and my toe was infected shortly after. the infection had to be drained at urgent care and it was 100% because the lady yanked my skin off my toe in my cuticle. i've then had to be placed on an antibiotic for two weeks due to the infection in my toe. I have always gone to this place with no issues, but needless to say I won't be going back because I don't trust that they clean their equipment. read more

My #1 rule on Yelp- You can't give a bad review for a nail salon based off of the amount of time you had to wait. Especially if you CLEARLY see how busy they are and voluntarily choose to stay and wait. 1. They're busy because they're THAT good that a lot of people want to be there. 2. They're not purposely making you wait a long time to ruin your visit and get a bad Yelp review...They're just busy. Dang. Anyways, that being said. I was sups annoyed that I had to wait 35 minutes before getting seated for a pedicure...and then another 30 minutes before my feet were even touched BUT the rating doesn't reflect the wait. I was just annoyed. But like I said, not their fault. They were all working hard and, fairly enough, giving everyone the attention to detail everyone deserves and is paying for. (Side note: I hate when salons are busy and rush to get more people through but do a bad job- they don't do that!) They're not the "friendliest" or most outgoing nail salon right off the bat...maybe it's because they're so busy they don't have time for chit chat...so I'm ok with that. I get it. Basically. They get the job done and do a good one at that. If you're in the Holland area, from my experience, this is the best place to go. There are definitely better options in the Grand Rapids area- fancier, cheaper, cleaner, friendlier, etc...but if Holland is your place- this is the best. I go to Sammys often. Many of the nail techs are good, however i have had the same lady twice, and both times she has put cuts into many of my fingers. I thought the first time maybe it was just coincidental but a few months later when I was sat with her the same thing happened. She aggressively nail files and is not careful whatsoever. It seems she is just wanting to finish as soon as she possibly can. Not to mention it hurts! I did not enjoy my time here. I made a yelp account simply to post this review. The salon is fine but the two employees I had were very aggressive and did not really listen to what I wanted for my nails. Nice people but just unfortunate when you pay for a service and it comes out poorly. The girl who did my feet did a good job but my foot is really red now lol not sure why and it hurts alot and it's been a few days. The lady who did my hands cut my finger twice and said it was because I had sensitive skin. I also asked for dip with tips and they forgot the tips entirely and she filed my nails very short and I got a simple French tip in blue and it's all uneven. Bummer. Really impressed with the service I received today at Sammy's. I walked in for a full set with gel polish and waited about a half hour-- understandable, they were busy and had appointments ahead of me. Dawn (hope I spelled that correctly) was my nail tech. I am a stickler about my nails and it's rare that I can find someone who does my nails exactly as I like them, but she did a fantastic job and made sure that the shape and thickness of my nails were exactly what I wanted. This was my first time at Sammy's, and I'm quite disappointed with my nails. I got a Shellac manicure. She put on 7 layers of polish because my nails were brittle, something I didn't know was going to cost me an extra $5. Had I known that, I would have chosen a dip manicure, which is $35. The shellac itself is a bit bubbly and uneven on a few of my nails, and one nail has even chipped (not even two full days after getting them done). I can tell more of the polish is about to crack off. The only reason I'm giving this three stars and not less is because my friend is very happy with her manicure, done by someone else. read more

Visiting this salon a few weeks back, I had high expectations due to my friends recommending this place. I usually go to a wonderful salon in Jenison; however, I was on a short notice and needed my nails done. Arriving, the man working the front desk was awfully rude (over the phone as well) and wasn't much of a help. After sitting, the woman filing my nails cut my cuticle with the tool and I was profusely bleeding. She said sorry, and told me she'd take $5 off the bill, which was sweet but it would be nice if you could help me stop the bleeding. Go to ABT nails on Butternut, much cleaner, great services, and very thorough, better prices, better pedis. . I like Lee at Sammys, and she did a great job on my nails. I had made a reservation for 9 of us to go a month ahead of time, confirmed it a week prior, they confirmed it the morning of. Upon arrival, most everyone got seated within 10-15 minutes. I waited 40. Thankfully Lee did a great job, and none of my party had to wait on me. HOWEVER, after we left, i was told that a staff member was completely rude to one of our party members. This friend of mine has been there many times, even recommended it to me, and it was disappointing that she was treated that rudely. Im sorry, that is just not good business. I didnt feel the salon was clean or organized. I wont be back. But, i did really like Lee. Update: less than 48 hrs later, two of us have our shlack chipping and peeling. Boo. read more

Look, I love a cheap nail salon when it comes to pedicures. I don't need anything fancy and this place isn't. It's like the dive bars of nail salons. First off it's across from a liquor store, also coincidentally named Sammie's. You walk into a big, open, room, with pedicure stations on one side, nail stations in the middle of the room, and what appears to be a warehouse or stage area of some kind off to the other side. Peeking in to the side warehouse/storage area, it looked like boxes of nail stuff, but I wasn't sure because nothing on the boxes was written in English. There is a round table that clients sit around and the staff does their job in the middle. I swear it looks like a sweat shop! Also they charge extra for having a gel nail extension claiming that it is better for your nails when they actually are using acrylic. I went to another salon with real professionals to have my nails removed and they told me that I had acrylic on my nails when I had paid for gel! What a nice place! The employees were all quite personable and made a standard manicure pedicure a quite enjoyable experience. Previous reviews mentioned the chemical smell, so we went in the morning to hopefully avoid it being overwhelming. I agree, the place could definitely benefit from some enhanced ventilation but it was quite tolerable when we were there. Other reviews also mentioned concerns with cleanliness, but I didn't see any concerns myself at all. It all looked properly done to me. The salon is laid out quite nicely, with a large open table for manicures and a large number of good quality pedicure massage chairs in their own room adjoining. The deluxe pedicure was very well done and they even did my manicure at the same time (what a time savings for me! Obviously can't always be done, but the additional personnel worked out). Unfortunately, I'm only here for a wedding and live much too far away to go here routinely, but would definitely come back! read more
