I was disappointed that the first (and only) time I saw a stylist here, she seemed more interested in selling products than listening to what I already know about my hair and the kind of cut I asked for. I picked this stylist bc she has curly hair and surely would know how to cut my very wavy hair. Halfway through she acted surprised to see what I had warned her about at the beginning -- my hair is thin but there's a lot of it; it could be that she didn't hear me, but I started to worry whether she had listened to the kind of cut/layers I wanted. Sure enough, what I ended up with was not at all what I'd asked for; either she didn't think it was a good idea or she didn't understand what I was asking for. Either way, she didn't talk to me about any of it and by the time she was done it was too late to go back. The haircut was okay over all but the communication was not as professional as I'm used to and I paid a lot more than usual. Too bad. read more

Love this salon. This is the second time I've had a pedi here. In the winter it's one of the few regularly opened downtown businesses. I had a service here last winter and then had another this weekend. The pedicure area is so cute and comfy, Heidi was super friendly and very good. My feet look and feel great. The salon has a nice updated feel. The check in is right inside the door, also very friendly. The hair stations and next and then the nail spa area is behind that, it's divided by a pretty brick wall so it's surprisingly quiet even though the hair area was quite busy. read more

I've been going to Engedi for the past few years now and I just love it. They'll kick off your hair appointment with a head massage using a minty oil which has become a relaxing ritual of my visits home to Holland. I've seen many hairstylists here and have never had a bad experience. They also welcome you showing Pinterest/celebrity pics to get an idea of what you're going for! Engedi offers lots of services: hair cuts, eyebrows, up-dos, manicures, pedicures, facials, waxing, massages, and more. A typical women's haircut will run you about $35 plus tip but that also includes the head massage, wash, and style! I always leave with my hair feeling lighter, smoother, softer, and healthier and the Aveda products smell wonderful! Been to Engedi twice for a haircut and color. My husband and I recently moved to the area so we are looking for a new salon. I decided to try different stylists/colorists each time until I found one that I liked. Both times I was disappointed by the cut. The first color (half foil) was just ok. Better than what I walked in as but I wasn't excited walking out. This last time I was careful to tell the stylist exactly what I wanted in an attempt to be happier with the result. It was a massive fail. "Half foil, highlights, low lights, I prefer chunkier highlights, cover the gray" and I'm puzzled as to what I got. I am a brunette and like being a brunette. I walked out with a terrible (what appears as) over all gross looking blonde. Can still see gray. The other odd thing is all other places I've been when you ask for a foil you have what seems to be possibly 20 foils in your hair neatly one on top of the other. This was not that. I would estimate I had 8 total foils and I recall her smooshing one down on the top of my head before walking away. I've never been so disappointed and therefore was surprised by the result and didn't speak up. I should have but didn't have time to stay to let someone else fix it. I am more than disappointed and am now looking for a new salon for help with correcting. read more

I went here for a gel manicure and regular pedicure, the experience in the salon was ok, but the actual results with the manicure were terrible. First off, there were about 10 colors to choose from for the pedicure, yes 10! I have never had that happen, for that reason alone I feel like we should have gotten a refund. You get to take the polish bottle home with you, but that's no excuse for not staying stocked. All Aveda institutes let you take the bottle as well but they are always fully stocked with tons of color options. The process was nice enough and the inside is nicely decorated, although the pedicare chairs are built in and not at all comfortable in my opinion. But less than one and a half weeks into my vacation huge chunks of my gel nail polish was peeling off. I was beyond disappointed. I've had many shellac gel nails done in Chicago and they last at minimum, 2 weeks. Something wasn't done right at the time of application. I wouldn't waste your time going here for gel manicures. And lastly, this may come as a shock, but not everyone who lives and works in Holland enjoys Christian music. I was completely turned off by the music they were playing. read more

I relocated from Chicago to Holland this past October. I was very happy to see there is an Aveda Concept salon in downtown Holland! I have seen Tara for two haircuts and a partial highlight. I have nothing but great things to say about Tara. She is the best!!! Tara listens to what you want and she is the best hairstylist. Prices are very reasonable and the salon is organized and clean. Parking is usually easy to find on 8th Street. If you need a cut or color, go see Tara. You will not be disappointed! read more

I have never ever walked out of an appointment. And just did with my nails half cut. Not greeted upon arrival while nail tech visited with a friend that came in after me. Only shellac option is gellish she started to cut my nails before informing me that they don't do manicures. They simply "clean up" nail by pushing cuticles in dry form. they charge twice the amount of corner walk in salon for a less than basic service. So I left with one hand worth of nails half cut. I just walked out of my appointment here and wanted to write this review right away because I was so pleased with my experience. I am visiting from out of town and was desperately in need of a hair cut, so decided to visit a salon somewhat on a whim. I should mention, I am a pretty frugal person who generally believes that paying someone to remove your hair is not a good expenditure when you could easily do it yourself. I met with Sara(h?), who was really receptive to the description of what I wanted and seemed comfortingly confident when I told her to take some creative license with it. The sort of hair cut I enjoy is not what someone who frequents hair salons might prefer, but she pulled it off with ease. That woman is an ace with a pair of scissors! Also, I had never been to an Aveda concept salon until today. What an awesome deal! Complimentary head and neck massage, a wash (with shampoos that did not feel overly chemicaled), and dry, basically the works! All for 27$ HIGHLY RECOMMEND :) read more

I visited Engedi to utilize their pedicure service. I had been in the past and it was, mostly, a pleasant experience. The seats are not all that comfortable, but I could live with that. On a previous visit the price of the pedicure included the bottle of OPI nail polish. They have since changed to a different nail polish and you no longer take it with you. This most recent pedicure was not what I had hoped for. The salon associate seemed overly preoccupied with what was going on around her and easily distracted. I could live with this, for the most part, but my biggest complaint is that my pedicure just didn't look good! There was nail polish on both of my big toes when she finished. I didn't see it until I got out in the light, as the lighting was a bit dim in the pedicure area. My nails do not look professional, but rather like I did them myself. Considering the price of the pedicure, I really would expect a better quality. I have paid less for much better. I would encourage Engedi to either increase the level of service to match the price, or lower the price to match the current service. read more

I got a beautiful up-do here for a wedding. My hair looked lovely...except that after two hours it was falling down and I had to swing back through the salon to have them re-pin it...and then I added more pins before the wedding. I had 45 pins in my hair, but last time I had an up-do, I had about double that amount. Lesson learned. Next time I have an up-do, I'll make sure they really really really pin it well. read more

I live out of town and right before I came to Holland on vacation, I tried someone new to cut my hair. My hair was cut crooked in the back and the layers weren't even. When I got to Holland I booked an appointment with Morgan to see if she could fix what had been done. She did an amazing job to not take too much off and clean up what had been done. She spent a lot of time to make she it was right and that I was happy with the cut. I was so impressed with her work, my hair looked great once she was done! read more

Just got home from a hair cut and foil color with Amanda- I LOVE MY HAIR!!! It's perfect!! Amanda was very knowledgeable about color for a natural look, and the cut is perfect. She listened to my requests (and hair issues) and took everything into consideration while creating a masterpiece. I highly recommend! I will definitely go back to see Amanda again. Other pluses: the website is great with an appointment booking system- will send you reminder texts; my first experience with Aveda color and I am happy- Hair feels healthy, and I didn't walk out smelling like a bottle of ammonia.
