I've eaten here 3 times in the last 5 days. Wonderful food. The owner of the place offers the most excellent customer service I've seen in a restaurant in some time. The lunch specials are a great value. I really dig the chicken beriani. Huge portions and tons of spicy flavor. I also got the chicken teeka masala for dinner. Unlike the normal "Chicken Tikka Masala" you see at Indian restaurants, this version looks like it was skewered and then ladled with the tomato cream sauce on top. Very good flavor. This is where one would need to go for dinner around the CWE district. A colleague and I shared the eggplant burani that came with pitas. I didn't care too much for the dry pitas, but the burani had a good combination of a smoky spices and the fresh, cool yogurt. The creamy eggplant wasn't at all bitter; it actually was slightly sweet. I came to Sameem on a friend's recommendation at an odd time. The gentleman working was very friendly and on top of what he was doing. I got the vegetable biryani and a chai, and was happy with both. I really enjoy the slight regional variations in biryani and other Afghan / Indian / Pakistani foods, and Sameem did not disappoint here. I'm giving them four stars rather than five because they don't do a lot of vegetarian food and when I come back I'll probably be sticking to the biryani. Sameem is in our family's too 5 Fsvorite restaurants in St. Louis. We were regulars at Kebsb Palace (owned by the same people that own Sameems) and were Devestated when they left Ballwin. We were ecstatic to find that they opened Sameems and make every effort to visit them in the Grove. Not only is the food delicious and made with care, the owners of the restaurant are amazing and super hospitable. If you speak with them, the passion they have regarding their restaurant is super evident. Best Afghani and Persian food hands down. We love the kebabs and their sauces are amazing and made daily! Went for lunch with a group. Food was fantastic - fresh and nicely prepared. My first Afghani food experience, but it felt familiar as it has many overlaps with Indian and Persian. Chicken Karahi was delicious - some spice but not too much and the chicken meat was tender and from a nice cut. For appetizer, the Pashtoon Salad is fresh and delicious; the hummus is great; eggplant burani was a happy surprise even to those who don't normally care for eggplant; and seasonal cooked pumpkin was also delicious . So I don't have pics, but I've had the luxury of eating her twice and both times service was 5 star. They treated me like a KING her and I loved it! The second you walk in its like stepping In grandma's kitchen. The authentic smells hit you immediately as you walk in. I went with chicken tiki Masala both times but the second Time going I got the Chai tea and the salad I can't remember the name but it had cucumber and tomatoe. The service was slow, especially considering there was only 1 other table occupied at the time. I sat in the front window and there were more than a few flies buzzing around our table. I went for lunch today and it was wonderful. Was able to grab the table that looks out onto the street. Nice and cool despite the heat outside. The food was great - I ordered the vegetarian combo - but each time I've been there, no matter what I've ordered, it is good. The hummus has quite a bit of garlic. The wait staff offered to split our appetizer order with 2 pakowra and 2 sambosa, It was just the right portion size for the two of us. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because they need a better ventilation system in the kitchen. We order catering from them for events anywhere from 10-150 people and service is always excellent - nice amount of food, good price, and they're experienced. They sometimes deliver the small orders if they have people available. Food portions are great; we are always stuffed. I am absolutely addicted to their curry chicken as well as their eggplant. And the chef cooks a goat curry for my fiancé that was on their special menu at some point, and is probably no longer on it but they still make it! "Tastes like home." Their kabobs are nice and spiced and even their chicken penne pasta is super good (???). Really hard to go wrong. Plus the owner is amazing and so nice, and they've got a great friendly cashier whenever I've been lately to pick up lunch orders. read more

Wow! The Grove has certainly upgraded their look since I was there in 2008! Delightfully busy on a Sunday afternoon and this restaurant was constantly busy around 3 to 4 p.m. on a dreary winter day. The food lived up to the great reviews I'd read here on Yelp. Our waiter asked us a few questions about our likes and dislikes, then offered several suggestions, and gave informative answers to our questions about different dishes. My wife and I tried Turkish coffee - strong but agreeable flavor, with a bit of a smoky aftertaste. We tried the appetizer variety platter - very tasty, and I even liked the hummus. (And I usually don't like hummus!) We opted to order an entree for each of us, rather than the kebob sampler for two - she had a chicken dish, mine featured lamb - and both were delicious!
