Here's a 5 star review that didn't cost me a penny. Nick, the owner came to give me a free estimate within 2 hours of talking with me. He notified me when he was 10 minutes from arrival. Nick was professional and efficient in his assessment of my garage door and opener. Imagine my surprise when Nick asked me what was wrong with my door. His recommendation was to tighten 3 screws and lubricant with WD-40. He did not feel that any other services was necessary at this time. What a honest person. He wasn't pushy at trying to sell me services that wasn't needed. In the future when my garage door breaks, Nick's phone will be ringing and it will be me reaching out to him for help. My neighbor referred me to Same Day Doors after he was also referred by our other neighbor to replace their tension springs. Just so happens my springs gave out after seven years and called Nick at Same Day Doors. Nick was very responsive and after scheduling a time for the repair, he texted his ETA. He arrived as scheduled and went right to work. Within an hour he completed the job of replacing my tension springs and was amazed my door sounded less noisy when opening. My garage door broke late in the afternoon on a Wednesday. I called Nick, he answered the phone (how many businesses actually do that anymore?) and was at my house within an hour, as soon as he finished a job at another home nearby. He didn't have the exact parts on hand, but gave me a time frame as to when he could have it fixed the next day. Nick arrived within 45 minutes of my call on his way home from work. I'd accidentally backed into the garage door, denting it inward and preventing it from closing completely. He examined the situation, explaining as he worked. By bending the door and rails back into position and repositioning the closure safety beam apparatus, he had the door returned to smooth and reliable functioning within 30 minutes. No need for a complete replacement, as I'd feared. And he only asked for the payment for a service call! Maybe I was just unlucky with Nick, but I think I gave him plenty of chances to justify this review. First off, as a person who has family members who own a small business, I understand that receiving a ton of calls and trying to schedule everyone in can be difficult and stressful. I called Nick and left him a voicemail about installing a new garage door and opener. After almost a week of no response, I called him again and left him another voicemail. A week later, he finally called me back and I explained what needed to be done to my garage door. He asked if he could drop by my house to take measurements the following week, per an agreed date and time (6:00 on Friday). To cut it short, I waited all evening for him to come take measurements, but he never showed up!! Thanks a lot asshole, for making me wait for you. He did not even have the decency to call and inform me that he could not make it over! To make things even worse, I called him a couple times to see if he would be late or what not, NO response. I called him the next day to see if something happened and could reschedule, NO response/apology for not showing up! That was the last straw! What a waste of 3 weeks to get a new garage door/opener! Screw this guy and place! I am glad everyone else had a good experience with him, but this is no way to run a small business. My garage door broke a bolt last night, so I checked Yelp then called around this morning. Several places claimed no parts any more for hinges on an old wooden tilt-up door, and Nick with this company also wasn't sure if he had anything useful. However, Nick offered to come by to look, and knew where to check for hinges at a used place downtown, and thought he might be able to install the appropriate used part later that afternoon. Very helpful. He called several times with ever more accurate updates of when he'd arrive, and it turned out he had the right part in his truck. We haggled on the price - he wouldn't take as much as I wanted to pay him. He'll get another call if my old doors give me trouble again. read more

It's unfortunate that 5 stars is the absolute maximum amount of stars we can give because I would totally give Nick and his Same Day Doors business more than 5 stars! I definitely appreciate his honesty upfront over the phone. I called around just to ask how much it would be to replace the cables on my garage door. Seriously everyone else I called told me that it would cost $X just to send someone out, in which the repairman would tell me what is wrong and give me a quote of how much the parts were and labor was. Not with Nick; he knows his stuff and gave me the direct answer and quote I was looking for. Nick's service is impeccable too. He came within the time frame he promised me and was literally done in about 20 minutes and went over my problem afterwards. He is very personable so it was easy to talk to him and he didn't make me feel like I had no idea what I was talking about. In addition to everything great I have mentioned, his services are very affordable. I would say that what he charged me is as much as what the other businesses quoted me at just to send someone out. Based on the reviews I read, Same Day Doors was the first company I called as my garage broke. While I was able to get it closed with about a 2" gap, it was something that I needed to get taken care of quickly (also thinking that a company with Same Day in the title would be a good match for my needs). So I called on a Thursday morning (in February), Nick answered and said he'd get back to me. I'm still waiting for that call. Same Day Doors in name only not the actual service they provide. I figured I would use a local company to get my garage door fixed so I called Same Day Doors to fix a broken spring on our garage door. I must have gone thru the same thought process many years ago when I replaced a garage door since Nick and I recognized each other when he came over. He's kinda grizzly looking (sorry Nick) but a very nice guy. He came when he said he would and called when he was running late the next day (had to come back because he didn't have the part). Nick was awesome ! He came to fix my keypad( replaced it ) and to give me another working remote( we were done to one in our family ). While he was testing that the remote worked, noticed that the springs that hold the door was not working well and further inspection found that the bolt ( original with the house 1959) that holds the big coiled spring was loose and turned out that it was fractions of an inch ready to pop- Anyway, very reasonable, very good, very friendly. read more

UPDATE: 11-14-13 The work they did was solid, garage door is working perfectly accept one thing. Since there is no awning over our garage at all and the driveway is practically level, water gets in for about three feet into the garage of water puddling. I called to see if he does work for that and never got an answer. So, follow up is not a strong suit here. ****If you are looking for the right company to fix/replace your door, do yourself a favor and call these guys first. Nick is a great guy, glad I met him and his friend Brian who works with him. They answered the phones every time I called and communication was clear and easy. We just moved into a house a couple months ago and it needed a door replacement. I'm glad I can count on yelp reviews for searches, as so far every referral has been really good referrals, this one is one of them. It's been three weeks now (I always wait a while before reviews incase something goes wrong) The new door is working great, nice seal. *No mess left behind. *They put it up in half a day (I think our garage was a bit tricky cause the ceiling is so low). *I asked for extra locks on the doors for when we go on vacation and they didn't charge us for the extra work putting them in. *He gave me a universal remote for free for my old garage door motor; of which will probably die someday soon (even though they mentioned this, they didn't push a new motor on me, they said to wait til it died). *Price was competitive, and I tried to grind them a bit because we are really broke at the moment. After talking it over with him and seeing the job he did I have to say I sincerely believe there isn't much room for haggling at an already low price. Plus I can tell it's hard work and takes expertise to do this from scratch, so I even tipped him and Brian a little to buy them a case of beer or whatever. That being said coupled with our present financial issues it shows they went above and beyond and I am happy with their service. After our couple of meetings before and during the job, I have the sense that they back their work and I don't have to worry about support if something goes wrong. read more

I called Nick when one of the rollers on my garage door popped off while it was opening, leaving the door top hanging awkwardly down. I didn't reach a receptionist who put me on the schedule, it just went straight to him, which I appreciate when I need something looked at quickly. He was able to come by just a few hours later and got it drilled back into place in seconds flat. The real reason I'm giving him 5 stars, however, goes beyond that. Rather than claim the job done and go on his way (and he could have, it was the very end of the day, it was 88 degrees and I'm sure he was tired), he studied the door trying to figure out why the wheel would pop out in the first place. He noticed the door could use some lubricating so he took care of that. But then as he continued to check out the door, he noticed the spring was about to pop itself right off of my wall and cause additional damage. Once he pointed it out to me, it was clear it was in bad shape. He got right to work reattaching it securely. In under 30 minutes, my wheel was reattached, the spring was fixed, and it's operating much more quietly now. And his price was extremely affordable! Our garage door would get stuck trying to open, and I noticed there was a big crack in the door where the lift attaches, so I was afraid we'd have to replace the entire door. He showed up within 2 hours to give us a free estimate, and immediately found the problem was that the lifting mechanism was not installed properly - quick, easy and cheap ($50) fix. When our garage door spring suddenly snapped I called several garage repair companies and got various quotes from various operators. None of them could be specific about the cost. Having experience with this before I knew that the quoted cost could quickly double once the repair person comes out to take a look and then you are stuck paying a lot more than originally anticipated. Nick was referred to me by another indie company (which similar to Nick, was super honest and reasonably priced) because they were unavailable to do the job and I was in a hurry. So in comes Nick who was willing to come and do the job for about the same price, in a little faster time frame. I called a left a message and he got back to me by the end of the day. Give him a break, he's busy fixing garage doors all day long so it might take him a bit to call you back, but sure enough, he calls back. He came and checked out our problem (broken torsion springs) and was upfront about the system we had in place and that it wasn't the best of systems and that he didn't deal with our particular brand (In other words, it was crappy, Lol). No offense taken as he was quite upfront about our options and what we could do. So in the end, he referred us back to the original company. I took his advice and we got it fixed. In a time, where you always get nervous about calling big companies with lame initial call fees, it was nice to come across Nick at Same Day. Nick didn't charge us for his call and it's nice to see that he is part of a community of independents that seem to care about the customers more than themselves.
