    Chicken Suqar

I went to lunch here today with my sister, brother-in-law, and husband. We came for a late lunch today (Friday) at 1pm, and we were the only ones there for most of the time. The food is soo good! We ordered Beef Sambosas, Chicken Suqar, and the Goat. We also had the hot tea. The flavors on everything are really just so good! The tea actually enhances the flavor of the other dishes. We were also given bananas as part of the meal, and my bro-in-law ordered 2 pieces of cake to share (partly because he has a big, sweet tooth, and partly because we were celebrating my birthday). The restaurant has been updated some since my first visit, and it's looking pretty good - it's got a classic vibe. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful! We will definitely be back soon!

This was my 2nd time trying Somali food, and it definitely set the bar high. This chicken suqaar with rice was some of the best chicken I've ever had! I loved the spices and the rice was so good too. We had to wait a bit for our food because they make every thing fresh, so if you are in a hurry then I'd recommend calling ahead for an order. We ate around 6:30, and they were out of the sambosa's, so hopefully next time we will get to try those. My husband got the beef suqaar, and it looked equally as good as my chicken. The guy working was pleasant, and brought us out some bananas and waters to go as well. Can't wait to go back to try something else!

So to be honest it doesn't look like much, but the food is good! The Sambosa were very tasty and a fan of mine. The green hot sauce was especially good and man did it get HOT the next day! So good! Definitely worth the adventure. Enjoy!

This restaurant is so amazing! We stumbled upon it when we were driving around in Burnsville. The food was great but what made it so much better was the family that owned the restaurant. They were kind and so welcoming to us. I think they knew it was one of our first times eating Somalian food and helped us pick something great and gave us samples. You can just tell their food is made with such love and family tradition. I live 30 minutes away but I can't wait to go back again. Also they gave us a banana with our meal to help with the spice! So smart! Our food came out to be about $13 and oh my did you get a ton of food for that! This place is definitely worth a try! I'll be going again! All ready dreaming about it!

Took awhile to getting around to trying this place and was not disappointed when we finally did. My wife and I ordered the beef and chicken suqar. Comes with a side salad, a *HEAPING* amount of delicious rice, sauces, and a banana. Took a little while for them to prepare but was well worth the wait. The staff were super friendly as well.

We have passed this place that our friends recommended numerous times. The other day my boys and I came and had the lamb, steak, chicken meal, and some meat Sambosas. We loved every part of the meal and had a wonderful time getting to know the food through the host. Everything was so delicious.

My daughter loves this food! The food is 100% amazing. We need this food in this area! Give it a try! It beats any other takeout you're doing. For anyone even slightly hesitant because they're unfamiliar, a great intro is to get some chicken suqaar (soo-car), which is just delicious rice, chicken and a little veg. Pair that with some sambusa, which are a like Indian somosa but way better. It's just seasoned meat in a fried triangle of goodness. And add some tea. If you're a chai tea latte kind of person, you'll be in love. It's the same spices and hits with love. Do not forget to order this!

If you like spicy food this is your place. They did say they could make it less spicy - unfortunately after we received our order. My wife loves spicy food so she loved it, for me it was too hot. We had a rice dish with steak, the steak was very tender, not a cheap cut. The ambience of the restaurant is fairly blah but we were there for the food. They have unique meats but out of those selections which was a disappointment - would have liked to try Goat or Camel. Try the Sambosa's, a fried dough with a filling, sorta like wonton but larger with more filling.

Baarakallah is set back from the street and tucked inside a corridor that is shared by a Halaal grocery shop. Once you arrive inside, the clientele may observe you but it's fine. The server at the front is approachable and can describe the dishes and is very prompt with service. And the food is spicy yet balanced, savory but not over seasoned. The prices are very affordable for the amount of food you get! We were very happy with the beef over rice and the samosa style pastries. Great food and a unique experience.

We came in with no real knowledge of Somali foods (but…read moresome of Kenya and Ethiopia), yet the menu was still fairly relatable even without any prior experience. Most importantly, they had the menu of the previous restaurant still up - a Mediterranean place it looked like - and the woman in charge said they could make Somali versions of most of that. So I asked for a chicken sandwich using the Somali stewed chicken and my partner got the chicken stew plate (suqar I think). Both were delightful, and the Somali-styled black tea was deliciously like a chai tea. Highly recommend.

We got to that door just as the owners were closing up shop, so we asked for a nearby suggestion and were directed down the block, to the other side of the protest. My friend promptly forgot the name of the suggested eatery, and I was busy focusing on the protest and feeling so deeply proud of our community, so we simply meandered before arriving at Hamdi. Abdiladif had such a bright, warm grin spread across his face as he welcomed us into the space and led us to a back table that you wouldn't think there was a fight for human rights occurring right beyond the walls. Or rather, it's possible that he realizes that, yes, there was, and every voice outside and every visitor inside is proof of where this community stands in this fight. Yeah, okay, that'd be reason for me to grin, too. The menu was simple. A few protein options. A few vegetarian dishes. A few drinks. A complimentary cup of Somalian tea that you could refill at will at a station conveniently located at the middle corner between the two dining rooms. No prices beside the menu items, which was puzzling. Abdiladif was so friendly and happy to answer our many curious questions, offer clarifications and suggestions. We ordered the two goat dishes. One ended up being out of a key component, likely the happy result of several tables filling up before ours, so we ended up with two of the same goat dish. They weren't really named, so "goat" was all we went off of on the menu. My friend paired his with the spaghetti, while mine was with chapati, hummus, and creamed veggies. My friend ordered mango juice. The sweetened Somalian tea was plenty delightful for me. We both preferred the creamed veggies in the same bite as the hummus. The chapati seemed somewhat dry and needed the hummus. The goat was decently flavorful and tender, though not juicy. My friend struggled a bit with the larger bones on his pieces. We both loved the tea so much that we continued chatting while sipping on one last sweet refill, after learning that a dessert menu no longer existed. Before we leave, I leave my jacket and to-go container of lamb meat at our table to use the restroom. I return to my jacket missing. Baffled, I figure my friend had grabbed it. I turn to grab the to-go box and go pay on my way out. As I turn back towards the main dining room, a diner from a neighboring table within the room runs back in and makes a beeline for me. He's holding my jacket, folded tidily. Sheepish, he explained that he thought I'd forgotten it and had run out of the restaurant with it to look for me. It's unfortunate that painful times like these exist, but it's also beautiful to see community come together in light of that dark. There are several Somali places in this area, many other ethnic spaces to support in the Twin Cities. My friends and I look forward to getting to know a great many more.

The spinach dish that came with the ugali had a lot of flavor, and the ugali had nice texture.
