Is this possibly one of the worst restaurants in the airport? Absolutely. Is the pizza super thin, smallish, and lacking flavor for $7-10 a slice? Definitely. Is the customer service dim and uninviting? Without a doubt. But if I'm being completely honest with myself, I would probably buy it again. Sometimes a slice of pie just hits the spot even when it's not that great. Finally found a decent and relatively affordable bite to eat at the Austin airport before my flight! Ordered a slice of pepperoni pizza. To my surprise it tasted fresh and delicious! Wow I had a layover in Austin in airport and instead of dining at a familiar restaurant in the terminal I saw that Salvation pizza was selling pizza by the slice. The huge pizzas and each flavor looked unusual and amazing! Very thin crust with a light dusting of herbs on the crust edge. The potato primavera looked more amazing that the photo on this site. The pesto primavera cheese pizza with herbs, an unusual cheese and a drizzle of a beautiful unusual sauce was to die for. I haven't forgotten it though I dined there about 8 months ago! Had to come home and look up the "style" and it's called New Haven Style ultra thin crust pizza. The amazing "drizzle" on the top was sensational. It was either balsamic glaze or pomegranate molasses. I hope to fly through Austin again so that I can dine there again. read more

This was definitely a good slice of pizza. I got a pepperoni slice which came out to $8.11. The slice was the perfect size, the pepperoni was plentiful and crispy, it was very well seasoned and it just hit the spot before a long 8 hour flight. I tried a slice of the pesto primavera pizza for $8. It was a little on the cold side but otherwise tasted fine.

I used to frequent Salvation on a regular basis at the original on 34th street just off Guadalupe. They had the best NY style pizza of all shapes and sizes many years before all the franchises came to town and became a trend. I was so disappointed it had closed when I returned after a number of years away from Austin. I had no idea they moved to the new wing in the airport, since most of my flights still depart out of the old wing. Was so glad to see it here. And it is still as good, but of course more expensive than the original. Good to see Austin airport providing space for local Austin Icons like Salvation, Hutt's hamburgers, and Toy Joy, that we're forced out of their original places because of all the commercialization going on in Austin and the ridiculous real estate price increases. read more

I grabbed a slice at the ABIA. I'd smelled it several times but too much of a stretch to or from mealtime to indulge. OR it simply wasn't open -which can be said for a lot of dining establishments in the airport and out these days. My last flight I had planned to get a sandwich at the airport before my flight -(which I did at Plum Market at DTW) but it was so not the Tuna Sandwich I had hoped for that after a couple bites it went in the garbage. So-although it was only 6:30 pm when we arrived in Austin I was absolutely famished. My pack of Almonds from Delta just didn't hold me. Although I passed right by Salvation Pizza- once I realized my mistake and that there was nothing on the ground floor with baggage pick up but a snack machine-I turned myself right around and went back. Turns out it was meant to be is not only did I get a beautiful slice of pesto pizza but while I was looking for a spot to sit and eat it. I found a wallet sitting on a chair in the Spirit Airline area-(more on that later). It ended up I was down by the airport officer where the gate seating areas are on one side and the security to come through into the airport is on the other side. I did fine sitting there and sat down to enjoy my pizza which by that time was no longer warm. The flavor of the pesto in the ingredients was very good. The crust could've been more crispy and I don't think the delay in my eating it had anything to do with that. I do prefer a lighter crispy crust. I would definitely stop back by here and try some different slices when I return to the airport. By the way, the wallet, I have no idea whether the rightful owner ever got it. I turned it into the officer because the people at Spirit Airlines refused to take it. They said they don't take responsibility for any lost and found even if it was found in their area which I thought very interesting. I hope the gentleman who lost it eventually got it back I did hear them announce a name over the intercom so I know that they looked in the wallet to find the rightful owner which I had not. So anyway I would recommend stopping by and trying a slice of celebration pizza should you ever be at the airport when it's up and running,..... just follow your nose! read more
